What I find interesting about Mysterio is despite him craving for people's attention and validation he doesn't show his face, not even a little bit.

I know that the fishbowl probably has some comic science, technological use.

But I like to think it's connected with his origin. Basically, Quentin Beck wanted to be an actor but was rejected because he ''didn't have the face'' for it. Sorry, if you already know this but I want to be precise.

I think he might be insecure about his looks. That's why he focuses on his performance and special effects.

What do you think?

Good take. Coming from a guy who’s been in his fair share of plays, sometimes having the attention taken off your face (ie you) really helps you get into character. That’s always how I interpreted it anyway.

Gotta say, the most unrealistic thing about the walking dead is the lack of random shit they have.

Yea yea, I get that food, water, shelter and medical supplies are the pertinent items to take with you,

but who wouldn’t take the opportunity to be sat up in their post-apocalyptic crib surrounded by their favourite museum exhibits, a collection of vintage Kawasakis, and every suit Bob Odenkirk wore in Better Call Saul?

I love how Otto looks before and after his accident and what it symbolizes.

Switching his white (innocent/pure) lab coat for the brown trench coat. This might have been unintentional because every scientist wears a lab coat and the cartoon creators apparently had to make callbacks to movies, so if they it was up to them they might have not used the coat like in the Spider-Man 2. (Apologize if I'm wrong.)

Changing his glasses which exaggerated his eyes aka his cuteness/innocence to goggles which makes him look like he's squinting aka is angry all the time. The reason why people don't like other people wearing glasses and instinctively jump to conclusions like ''He/She is fake.'' is because we can't read their emotions as we normally could. But thanks to the magic of animation he's still expressive when need be.

Also, I love his bow tie! It serves basically the same purpose as a ribbon on a child or a puppy. They could have made him wear a regular tie but that wouldn't stand out as much. And it wouldn't be as cute.

While writing this I noticed his regular clothing has similar colors as his most popular comic version. And after his accident, he wears a green jumpsuit underneath his coat.

What do you think? Did I miss some detail you would like to talk about?

First of all; props to you bro because you obviously spent some TIME pontificating on this subject.

And I Agree! I did sort of notice what they did with his clothing colors, paying homage and all that. But you hit the nail on the head with the rest of it I’d say. His pre-accident design in this cartoon is very.. impeccant? (Had to legitimately pull out the thesaurus for that one) he’s innocent; doesn’t want any trouble. I love that the animators went that route, because it’s probably the only time (to my recollection) that they’ve gone that route with him pre-accident.

In the Tssm the goblin causes ottos accident but for Tssm Norman x Otto I like to think it was someone else who did it and Norman was tariffed after the accident because he almost lost Otto

Agreed. I’m thinkin’ it went down kinda like it did in the Raimi movies, Otto’s machine having a malfunction while he’s using it.

I think I'm not alone when I wondered what's up with Sandman, Hydro-Man, and Electro's clothes.

When Electro goes into cables his clothes go with him. Are they naked all the time and just change color to appear clothed? Did their clothes change with them?

Also, Rhino has permanent body armor that covers his private parts. Could have given him a loincloth like Tarzan.

I’ve spent more time pondering this than I’d like to admit. But I think you’re right that they’re just choosing to appear clothed.

…I also might have written a 3k hurt/comfort, angst, fluff and smut fic about Flint and Alex that goes into slight detail about just that subject…

What I love about Rhino's TSSM design is how huge his horn is and his feet seem to have hooves? whatever rhinos have. Some designs just make him a huge gray guy with a tiny horn on his forehead.

Too bad they didn't give him a cute rhino tail.

His design is wonderful; what’s even better scene where he’s being suited and Otto is geeking out about how he got the inspiration. Makes me bust a mental nut every time I watch it.

(Also. Yes hooves, rhinos are perissodact’s, which means uneven toed hoofed mammals)

I find the choice to give Mysterio and Peter a mole interesting. A beauty mark is usually reserved in animation for attractive women. I imagine it is also hard to keep track of and keep on the right side.

This is, apparently, a signature of the series' character designer, Sean "Cheeks" Galloway, who has a similar mole on his own cheek and puts it on the cheek of all his lead characters.

It's such a simple, subtle, and cute detail.

I swear they went ham designing men who are both unique and attractive. And I’m so so glad they did.
