Does anyone else lie awake wondering what was going through 20-something year old Severus’ head when he was being investigated as a Death Eater? Did he have to testify in his own defence? Would he have done?

Like. I can’t picture him reacting with simple relief at Dumbledore testifying on his behalf or even at being cleared. On one hand, he has to be cleared in order to keep doing the role he must now play and which he presumably wants to do on some level as a way of atoning, and no one wants to go to Depression Prison. On the other hand, the one person he was doing it all for is dead and it’s his fault and he must have felt like absolute shit, and it can’t have actually felt good to get away with what he’d supported. It’s not a lie, he really did defect before the critical point, but I just can’t imagine him seeing it as anything but getting away with something he didn’t deserve to.

Imagine him hearing the constant news unavoidably splashed on every newspaper about ongoing Death Eater trials. The anxiety that everyone can see it written on his face as people talk constantly about the news, not knowing how to respond to comments by people who don’t know about his involvement. Wondering what will happen to him when shit hits the fan again and his former crowd all see him as a traitor. Feeling like he IS a traitor; maybe some of these were his friends. Wondering if it wouldn’t have just been better to take the punishment and be done with it, since in the end he still failed to save Lily. Feeling like he didn’t actually deserve Dumbledore defending him, or the slimy feeling of being aware that Dumbledore only helped him in order to use him. Feeling powerless over his own life and knowing that despite it all, despite making enemies of dangerous people and risking his life, the people whose side he’s now on will never trust him or see him as one of them, a denial of the very desires that pushed him into the arms of radicals in the first place.

I saw a post a while ago about the “catharsis of punishment” and how sometimes it’s even worse to be refused the opportunity to be punished or hated or to suffer direct consequences for something you feel guilty for, especially for someone as prone to self-hatred as Severus Snape, and I have thought about that phrase a lot.

marauders stans act like snape outted him as gay or smth, when he didn’t. being gay doesn’t hurt anybody, but being a werewolf sure does. Remus almost KILLED multiple people with his OWN negligence and no one else’s. HE forgot to take his wolfsbane. HE forgot about the full moon. So yeah, Severus was well within his rights to speak up on it, especially when he himself was almost killed.

Snape Angst Headcanons

Snape is the definition of angst.

Getting him to be your lover is hard, but becoming friends isn’t any easier. If you even suggest that you might be, his reaction is, “You are under the false impression that our relationship is more than colleagues/acquaintances. I am not your friend. It’d be silly to think otherwise,” but he doesn’t mean any of it! He’s just scared of showing his feelings to others and doesn’t want to burden you with his existence, so he retreats.

But he still cares for you. If you accidentally hurt yourself or get into a sticky situation, be prepared for a lecture. It doesn’t mean he thinks less of you, even if he may sound condescending; he is just worried for your well-being.

He is a massive hypocrite, though; if you ask him if he’s okay or needs help, he snaps back. “I am not a child. I am more than capable of looking after myself!” (is he, though?)

If you give him a gift, even if it’s such a small thing that requires practically no effort or thought, he refuses it until you insist multiple times because he’d “do anything for you to stop whining.” But in reality, he feels so touched. He cherishes it forever.

The above point holds for any kind of affection. If you ask for a hug, he rolls his eyes before embracing you in the most awkward way possible (but only once he is comfortable enough with you).

Don’t bother giving him compliments. He will only downplay his talents/skills/intellect at best or reply with self-deprecating remarks at worst.

If you catch him staring at you, he doubles down by glaring at you, almost as if you are in the wrong for just looking in his direction.

The only way to get him out of his shell is to confront him one-on-one, forcing him to come to terms with his feelings. He tries to get you to leave, but you have to stand your ground. If you tell him you care about him and want the best for him, he can only say, “I never asked you to!”

If you apologize to him for a small wrongdoing, he pretends he doesn’t care. He forgives you but doesn’t explicitly say it (he might let out a heavy sigh and suggest you two simply move on.) On the inside, though, he admires your humility and care for his feelings.

But if you really wrong him…let’s just say, don’t expect the same reaction from him. Yes, he’s used to people hurting him, but it doesn’t make it any easier when it happens again. If he comes to love you, he will find it in his heart to forgive you eventually. It won’t stop him from loving you, but he may need his space.

If you yell at him, even if you are not angry at him but are stressed out or had a bad day, he will leave you alone. He won’t speak to you unless it’s necessary, and not just for that one day. He’ll only continue talking to you once you give him the okay. But it’s not out of pettiness; he hates being a bother and is convinced any conflict means whatever relationship you have is doomed.

Building and maintaining a relationship with Snape is hard. All relationships require effort, but with him, you’ll find that progress isn’t linear. However, with the right person, he can slowly become more himself over time. His feelings are deep, even if he doesn’t verbalize them.

Bonds of Matrimony - Hey, look! Another Marriage Law fic. Voldemort pushes through a marriage law while in control of the ministry in order for Hermione to be forced into marriage with a Death Eater, and Dumbledore steps in with Snape to save the day. Glorious, must read. Completed.

Unquestionable Love - Almost two decades have passed since Voldemort’s downfall, but there is still drama and conflict in the wings. Severus and Hermione have settled and have a family and it’s all just beautiful. (There’s also a prequel and many one shots within the universe.) Completed.

Pride of Time - GAAAAAH. READ THIS. Hermione has an accident with her Time Turner and goes back twenty years. She can only move forward at the normal rate, and has to work her way back into the proper timeline. Convoluted and crazy and gorgeous. Completed.

The Headmaster’s Wife - Holy twists and turns, Batman. Beautiful and glorious and you need to read it. Hermione and Severus are brought together by ancient magics and they get together and there’s so much stuff happening it’s just SIGH awesome. WIP.

The Guilty Pleasures of Hermione Granger (series) - Dark and a little twisted and oh so sexy. Includes Lucius in the last parts. Completed.

I've been resource gathering for YEARS so now I am going to share my dragons hoard

Floorplanner. Design and furnish a house for you to use for having a consistent background in your comic or anything! Free, you need an account, easy to use, and you can save multiple houses.

Comparing Heights. Input the heights of characters to see what the different is between them. Great for keeping consistency. Free.

Magma. Draw online with friends in real time. Great for practice or hanging out. Free, paid plan available, account preferred.

Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.

SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.

SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.

Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.

Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.

Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.

Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.

Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.

loved your point about bellatrix being read as a foil to hermione - there are so many interesting things about hermione that just feel so one dimensionally blocked in canon. have read so many fleshed out hermiones in various fics it always fills my soul

makes a larger point about the women in hp and just the characters as a whole - start squinting and you can see how so many parts of the canon were poorly written 🤷‍♀️

like for me personally, ginny was always a character I liked but there’s so much more to delve into her story than whatever was in canon or barf the movies

any other women in the series that stick out to you for characterization potential? I’ve loved your slytherin girlies lionheart in particular!

I was always curious about Fleur, because she's the Triwizard champion, which implies a great deal about her character and skill. We don't get too much characterization, even at her own wedding. She's kind of in her flop era during the Tournament, doesn't do too well against the dragon or in the lake. She then gets a sort of triumphant moment when she gets to tell off Molly for basically calling her shallow (and in a really unpleasant way, too, I hate how Molly's written in HBP with a passion) and at the same time has a total banger line ("I am beautiful enough for both of us!")... and even that doesn't stop the girls from making fun of her in Book 7.

I dunno. It always felt like Fleur was being punished for being pretty and knowing it, and everyone assumed that she was snobby because of it, even though she's... not? Fleur is incredibly grateful to Harry when he saves Gabrielle, and she comes up to him as they're all leaving Hogwarts and strikes up a conversation about her future plans — like, I'm pretty sure the read here is that Fleur thinks they're friends! And is trying to start a friendly conversation! Granted, she's a bit direct, which can come across as rude, but like... she's French. Have you met French women? By certain standards, she's incredibly nice.

Uhh.. Well it’s a…. Fanart… From…a fic… It’s called Pet Project by Caeria. Wonderful fic. If it’s not okay to post that I will remove… Cause I have no idea if it’s okay… 

 It’s uhhh.. Hermione want to make Sev happy and she helps Neville about his fear of Snape…So she gives to him private lessons while she incarnate Snape…. And then lots of stuff…. And at one moment Snape discovers that and… ask Hermione to show him how she look in her “professor Granger-Snape personna… And… here we are.
