Social media is like that hot guy everyone is raving about even though he doesn’t have  good intentions. It’s juicy to look at, but smart to not indulge in. Sometimes we as humans become so obsessed with the outer anatomy that the purpose is hidden underneath the hype and attention of a beautiful master piece that was tarnished. I say all of that emphasize, fitness is amazing and is often times perceived as something that is only physical on social media. Let me explain....for example, how many times have you promised that you’d wake up at 5 am to get that work out in and stayed in bed? How many times did you restart that diet after the weekend after that one piece of cake..which turned into 3. So you had to throw the whole cake in the sink...and then pour water so it can be soggy! Or maybe that's just me. From my own personal observation, social media only tends to shine light on the end of someone’s perfect fitness journey? How many videos have you seen with the girl doing the squats with the fake ass? Or the girl who’s been skinny all her life and decided to upload a picture with flat tummy tea just to scam us into basically buying green tea?
Tumblr media
Maybe one day the culture of waist trainers, teas, and fat transfers will become nothing more than just a fad that we can laugh at. The real reason these trends are such a phenomenon is because we all want a short cut to the body that we truly don’t believe we have the motivation to work for. Admit it; if the girl with the 6 pack actually uploaded her videos on Instagram would you actually copy every single workout?
Tumblr media
Or would you just tap the follow button and admire and envy her just like the other 10 thousand followers. When it comes to fitness and social media, that’s exactly what we are. Just followers. Why won’t we actually do the work? Having a nice body is awesome, I’m not going to lie, being thin looks great and eating healthy feels great too! But even knowing all of those things never made the difference for me. No matter how many fit models that I see on social media it never truly inspires me to wake up 5am in the morning or put down the doughnut. All it does is create an illusion that it was easy for her and it’ll be hard for me.
The pros about social media incorporated with fitness are the awareness in taking care of your body is now a conversation! It’s cool to be fit and healthy now and I love that! The con is that most of the pictures that we see don’t show us the truth about the average person’s journey. It takes mental strength to create a physically strong being/body. Waking up when you don’t want to is not only determination, but stepping outside of your comfort zone, which is scary!! Our brain was designed to stop us from doing something that brings us fear. So you’re not weird for stopping yourself, you’re not a lazy bum for skipping a workout and you’re not alone in your journey either.
Tumblr media
Instead, I’d like this magazine to focus on the “not so pretty” moments that no one talks about. Or those rolls on your back that you try to hide! In this online magazine there will be steps and tips to succeed on your journey that we’re all struggling in! It’s not just a fitness journey. It’s a mental journey! A journey that we can relate to and beat the odds on what people call fit or beautiful! Whether you have a real or fake ass, are you fit or not? Did you put in the work like you said you would? I’ll be sharing other people’s stories and pictures of their progress. It’s ok to be inspired by the women/ men on Instagram, but sometimes we got to put the phone down and look straight in the mirror!

Chapter 1 of Jordan's Journey
I was standing there on Bankhead under the street light with nothing to do, just thinking bout life. The darkness of the sky matched my mood and I felt like for the first time…in a long time… something was in tune with me. I know I’m just some street chick in Atlanta but sometimes I just want that fantasy type shit I see in the movies. How come I can’t just have the all black Bugatti, with some maid to wipe my ass, in some pearly white gate mansion? But then again that ain’t for everybody, if God wanted me to have that I would, this is where I belonged. I’m stuck at this ghetto ass salon, where niggas try to sell their fake diamond and beaded jewelry, their knock off Gucci purses and 50 cent hot Cheetos for a dollar. I wanted to be this intellectual girl with a rich dad.  But everything is the way it is for a reason. I always tried to wonder why God loved others more than me. What did I do? I know I wasn’t perfect but I was ok I guess. I thought he was God. I thought he was supposed to love me. But hey, I’m silly for thinking God exist. You’re telling me that there is some man, or spirit, whatever, and he lives up in “heaven”, and he watches over me? O ok.
