“I am invoking my right to remain silent. I want a lawyer.”

Now seems as good a time as any to post a reminder that speaking to a police officer that has stopped/detained/arrested you without a lawyer present is never as helpful as you think it might be. You are, generally, required to give the police enough information to identify you. If it’s a traffic stop, also give them your proof of insurance and driver’s license. And if there’s a weapon on you or in your vehicle, politely notify the officer and produce the associated license if one is needed. Otherwise, the only thing you ever need to tell a cop is the statement above.

The God of the Story

I think the thing that I’ve come around to is that there are really three different Gods that are worshipped in the Christian religion.

There’s the God of Scripture. This is the God that you see worshipped in the most fundamentalist churches - the God of rules and laws and hellfire and brimstone, where any mistake or deviance means your certain eternal damnation. This is the God that shuns gay people, or nonbelievers, or nonconformists as less-than. This is the God that says you are worth more if you fit the mold and fall in line.

There’s the God of Prosperity. This is the God that can be bought, the God that says you are owed riches and material luxury and wealth. This is the God that says that there is something wrong with you on a spiritual level if you lack wealth or luxury, the God from which miracles can be bought and salvation comes from regular donations.

And then there’s the God of the Story. This is the God that’s easiest to miss when you read the Bible, because so many churches will tell you to focus on the God of Scripture. This is the God that favors second-born sons and prostitutes. This is the God of second chances, the God that forgave His people over and over again, no matter how many times they turned away. This is the God of kindness, the God that feeds the hungry and ministers to criminals. This is the God that forgave the biggest betrayals and chose mercy in the most desperate of times.

I choose to believe in the God of the Story.

So one of my neighbors has a lawn Roomba or whatever they're called, and this thing trundles around looking like a background robot in the background of the original trilogy, and ABSOLUTELY BAFFLING THE DOGS.

congrats to the ARAs who got facebook to ban animal sales. shortly before then, many rare heritage chicken breeds were getting much needed attention to save the breeds thanks to various agricultural facebook pages highligting them. but now, with the ban of animal sales on facebook, those heritage breeds have become damn near impossible to find again. guess what that means? the breeds will begin dying out again. people will go back to hatcheries who mass produce unhealthy chicken breeds in horrible conditions. folks will always buy chickens, but now instead of buying them from ethical breeders on facebook they’ll be supporting a terrible industry, woohoo.
