heyo! can i get some more guardian angel au goodness?
Ah, my humble beginnings. Pardon the wait nonnie, I wasn't kidding when I said I've become more inactive :P
1. “Y’know, if you were a good Guardian Angel, you wouldn’t keep embarrassing me in front of potential dates!” “It’s the screening process, Babe. If they can’t handle you at your worst, they certainly don’t deserve you at your best.” “My “worst” involves divine intervention — how is that fair?!”
2. “Look— how much do you make? Doing this, I mean. The whole guardian angel shtick.” “Uh, nothing, actually. It’s less of a job and more of an obligation.” “Well, [Person B], I want you to fly back up to that wonderful little realm you refer to as 'heaven', shove past the secretary, march into your boss's office, and demand a raise so I can double your pay to get you to fuck off.”
3. "Oh c'mon, I don't need a guardian angel, I'm not that clumsy!"
"Aha, right. Explain to me again how stumbling onto a fully lit bonfire was in any way intentional or beneficial?"

Contact Your Representatives About the CASE Act
Tumblr media
Are you in the US? The OTW needs your help!
Congress awkwardly crammed some copyright provisions into a COVID-relief bill, including the creation of a “small claims” copyright tribunal that could absolutely bankrupt fans who get targeted, and provisions about “felony streaming.” OTW has actively opposed this “small claims” proposal, and when it passed, we thought that there was nothing more to be done.
BUT!! As of this morning (23 Dec 2020), there has been movement. President Trump has threatened to veto the COVID bill and, among other things, asked for all of the ancillary language in the act to be removed, including the “small claims” and “felony streaming” provisions.
Time to contact your congresspeople and tell them to take copyright out of the COVID bill! Here is a way to do that, via our allies at the EFF. Alternatively, you can identify and contact your senator and your representative in the House via the linked websites. This legislation could pass in the next few days so if you are able to act, please do it now!
Note: this is DIFFERENT from Senator Tillis’s copyright wish-list that we posted about yesterday.  Senator Tillis is still doing his thing; it’s not a bill and—we hope—may never become one.  We anticipate a long road ahead on that front.

I don’t care how “vague” or “non-descript” it is, if you tag your porn as Mature instead of Explicit, I will smite you.
If the characters are FUCKING, ON SCREEN, it’s STILL PORN and needs an EXPLICIT RATING.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk :)

(Re)Introducing Comment Exchange
Tumblr media
I started this project about seven months ago and I figured it might be time to reintroduce it to all our followers and hopefully introduce it to a few new people.
Let’s start with a bit of history: This is the post that started this project. Much to my surprise and amazement, that post was reblogged by @ao3commentoftheday a few days after we started accepting submissions, which helped this project immensely.
The idea behind Comment Exchange is to help all those fan creations that don’t get imediate attention and quickly disappear between the countless other fan works that are out there. Especially new creators, creators who aren’t active in the social part of fandom and creators in small fandoms rarely get high numbers of interactions on their works.
This tumblr is a place for all these works, you can submit your works here, or browse our different masterlists to find new fan content to consume. Preferably both.  We have about 175 fan works in almost 100 fandoms and welcome all forms of fan creations for all fandoms out there, hosted on any platform. You can also submit original works.
We run events and highlights form time to time so keep an eye out for those.
You can find a list of links to more information on this project under the cut.

quick tips for enjoying writing
Struggling with writing words? Getting pages done is a grind and not enjoyable? Here’s a few things that kicked my butt and made me figure out how to do what I love without stressing too much (at least, not about actually sitting down to write haha)
Tumblr media
1. Night Owl, Early Bird, etc - figure out when your brain wants to write.
I struggled a lot with trying to follow tips about daily writing, or anything that suggested morning writing for people with busy schedules or who need quiet time. Why? Because my brain wants to write at night. Notice I said, wants because there are going to be times when you need to force yourself to write at a weird time because life happens. Don’t punish your brain too often though! You’ll find yourself writing easier even when you force yourself at odd times, just because your brain knows that you’ll return to the usual schedule.
2. Use what works, even if it’s not the norm.
For me, I can’t handle too many options when writing or colors. I still needed certain things, so I figured out exactly what I needed just by trying different things. Don’t just use Word because you’re used to it. You might find after adjusting, that you work better with minimalism. I found myself using plain Notepad for awhile just to trick my brain into thinking there wasn’t a scary blank page. I moved to Notepad++ then Evernote, as I realized what I actually needed. I needed minimal organizing, mobile compatibility, and no blank pages or Times New Roman allowed.
Scrivener might be a great program that youtubers I watch hype a lot. But my way isn’t lesser just because they aren’t endorsing it and the same goes for the way you need to work, including just plain writing on the cheapest notebook you can find instead of some fancy brand. The brands don’t make you a better writer, only you can make you a better writer.
3. Take breaks, but don’t stop entirely.
You are allowed breaks. Life happens! But just because you’re getting frustrated with one thing doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to try a new project. I swap between writing my wip, to writing on tumblr, to drawing, to bullet journaling, to organizing my blog or my notes. Anything can be “writing” if it’s keeping your mind active! I find it easier to focus on one wip at a time, but it’s fine to mess with character sheets or worldbuilding, that still counts towards your writing time and don’t feel guilty about it. Guilting yourself into writing is never enjoyable. It’s good to keep yourself accountable and productive, but don’t force yourself to overdo it. Listen to a podcast, watch a video, but always come back, preferably sooner rather than literal years, but everyone has their own pace.
There’s merit to statements like, “If you’re only reading about how to write, you’re not writing.” Sure, that’s true if that’s all you do. But it’s well worth the effort to improve your craft and take advice (not all advice, mind you) when you are struggling! Maybe listening to your favorite music sparks an idea to patch a plothole! Life informs your writing, so experience it as well as writing about it.

I hope that helped and that you all have a happy writing session!

I need help here
is there a fandom term coined for when claims and information is spread by an author/creator about their series that never actually happened in canon, while it was being created or otherwise?

It deeply pains me to know that there are some fanfics out there, some golden fanfics, that deserve to be seen and appreciated, that I will never get the chance to read because they’re buried amongst thousands of other golden fanfics and there is simply not enough time to read all of them because of this stupid mortal countdown.

50 tips for (fanfic) writing
have fun
write whatever is interesting to you, even if it won’t be interesting to anyone else
appreciate kudos when they come, but don’t expect them
appreciate comments when they come, but don’t expect them
if you wish you could just write that one scene you have in your head, do that. you don’t need to create a 30K backstory for it first.
embrace one shots
embrace drabbles
embrace writing your story out of order
rough drafts are meant to be rough. if you can’t think of a word, put in a placeholder for it and keep going.
try not to get stuck on the little things
it’s okay if your readers can’t see the picture inside of your head
some people work well when they have a posting schedule. some people work well when they don’t. it’s okay if you don’t know which kind of person you are, and it’s okay if the type of person you are changes over time.
if a rule you created for yourself isn’t working for you, get rid of that rule.
make fandom friends. even if they don’t read your fic, they’ll cheer you on while you write it.
cheer on other writers you know. you’ll be cheering yourself at the same time.
no trope or genre is better or worse than another one. they all just appeal to different audiences.
quality and popularity are not the same thing, although they do sometimes overlap
numbers and statistics will never tell you whether or not you’re a good writer. they will never tell you how valuable you are as a person.
you belong in fandom if you want to be there
you’re a writer as soon as you start writing things
writing and posting are two different things. your story is still worth writing, even if you never plan to share it
you don’t need to apologize for what you write or what you post.
don’t worry about taking up too much space. the internet doesn’t have a maximum size.
keep your readers in mind when you’re tagging your content. how could they search for your fic? if you use a tag, will be a reader who loves that tag be satisfied with how much it appears in your story?
if you have a relationship in your fic that plays a minor role, tag it in the Additional Tags section instead of the Relationship section so that people who love that ship don’t get their hopes up
be cautious when looking at bookmarks on your fic. they aren’t “extra comments.” that’s a space where readers make notes for themselves and each other, not for authors.
you don’t need to know everything about canon before you start writing fic
you don’t need to read fic in the same fandoms you write for
you don’t need to read fic at all in order to write it
love your work because sometimes you’re the only one who will - and that’s okay
if your hobby starts feeling like a job, you might need to take a break before you get burnt out
if you get stuck on a story, you can always start a new one
if you fall out of love with a story, you can always stop writing it. if you’re worried about your readers, you can always give them a bullet point summary of where you were planning to go with thing. for a lot of people, that’s satisfying and provides closure
if you get hate, report it
use the tools at your disposal to block hate before it can come in (limiting or turning off comments, limiting or turning off asks, blocking users, etc)
try replying to comments sometimes. it can be a lovely way to make fandom friends
don’t be afraid to reblog your own writing posts.
if you get stuck on your summary, just write 1) who the story is about 2) what they are doing and 3) what problem gets in their way
notice when your writing makes you smile. that moment is a gift. enjoy it.
notice when your writing makes you cry. that moment is a gift, too.
even if you’re disappointed in how your story turned out, there’s something in there that’s fantastic. find that thing and focus on it and feel proud.
some ideas are ones you want to write. some are ones you want to read. if you ever have too many ideas to deal with at once, give some of the latter ones away to someone else.
sometimes the things you write will be really personal. be careful about putting them where other people can comment. they won’t know how personal it is for you, and you need to remember that comments aren’t about you, they’re about the story.
remember that you can write series as well as stories. if the story is done but you still have passion or ideas, start a new one in the same universe.
enjoy the satisfaction of finishing a story. savour it. bask in it a little while.
don’t feel guilty about abandoning a story. not every story gets finished, and that’s okay
you can have separate accounts for different fandoms. you can have one account with a million fandoms in it. do whatever works for you.
sometimes writing is more important than sleep - but only sometimes
it doesn’t matter if that story has been written before by someone else. it doesn’t matter if it was written by you. write it again.
only follow the advice that makes sense to you. the rest isn’t important.

Did you know that AO3 allows fics with homicide in them? There’s a whole tag for Major Character Death and even more tags so you can find exactly what kind of character death you want to read.
Don’t they know that murder is illegal? You just know there are a bunch of homicidal maniacs out there who love to read those stories. They write them, too, in between killing people.
Anyone can read the stories on AO3! Kids can read them! They’re getting exposed to stabbing, poisoning, even guns! And they’re writing the heroes doing the killing, too! That’s basically telling kids it’s okay to go out and murder their families. It’s promoting violence and encouraging homicide and if we don’t do something about it soon, you’ll be murdered next!

REQUEST RULES/GUIDELINES
Asks only
(if you use submissions or dm’s i’m ignoring it)
Keep it ship and AU related
Try not to be too specific or too vague
Vauge; ‘example/example AU’ isn’t enough to go off of, it doesn’t provide much inspiration
Specific; Try to keep it gender/sexuality/fandom/character neutral — these are PROMPT requests, i’m not writing them JUST for YOU and YOUR characters
Be courteous and patient
Don’t send multiple requests close together or send the same one multiple times*
(I know tumblr eats asks so if you send again after a while I won’t bite your head off)
Please keep in mind I don’t fill every prompt call I receive, and i’m not nearly as active as I used to be.
