that moment when you cross the point of no return with a character should be accompanied by a specific chime i think. like 🔔 congratulations! this one has been installed in the Permanent Collection and you will never stop thinking about them as long as you live
I am just. So weirdly tickled by this Watcher situation. Like yes, initially I was very disappointed and upset but honestly now I just think it's funny. I can't remember the last time a creator or group of creators misread the room this hard. Like they really thought they were cooking with this one. They had a countdown to this. They announced their paywalled streaming service with their whole chests and expected rapturous applause. Instead, there has been a non-stop chorus of boos and thrown tomatoes for days now. They would have probably gotten a better reaction if they had posted a video where they sprayed a dog in the eyes with soapy water.
It's all so pleasantly... low-stakes. The consequences are nonexistent. It's not like the Ned Fulmer situation, where a friend group is destroyed, real life relationships are ended, and young children are potentially subjected to the trauma of divorce. Nah, all that's happening here is three idiots will be making a lot less money than they wanted. Maybe they'll learn something, maybe they won't. Either way, they brought it entirely upon themselves, and that makes it okay to laugh at in my books. So I will!
Discord has introduced microtransactions to make only specific users hear sound effects. Skype is back as a livestreaming platform. X is now marketing “twitter” as a paid-only private area to post in on X. There are clouds gathering above the field now. There’s an ache in your tooth when you eat something sweet, sharp and stabbing, but you put it off. The wind makes the puddles in the mud ripple after it rains. When you look out, you like to pretend they are deeper, deep enough to drown in. You wonder if you’d still be able to see just how big the cloud-heavy sky is as you fall beneath the surface. You wonder if you’d hear the first drops of rain. You wonder how the wind always seems to find you out there. The field is large, and it is cold outside. Come inside now. It’s getting late.
the heartache of being aroace is so crushing. i was born to love fiercely and all encompassing. i want to cook for you. i want to take you on picnics. i want to take care of you when you’re sick. i want to sit in silence with you. i want to share my life with you.
but no, i don’t want to kiss you. i don’t want to have sex. i don’t even really like holding hands. i’m sorry. i know its not enough. i’m sorry i’m not more.
still stuck on the Watcher announcement. I genuinely don't understand it, no malice or anger here, just confusion.
I'm one of their millions of subscribers. I am also a p casual fan. I'll need something on in the background, remember Puppet History exists, put on the playlist, then move on with my life. How many of those subscribers are like me, who watch only some of their shows some of the time? I'm not going to pay for a subscription service. Their shows are nice but I'm not a big enough fan for that.
The people who are? The fans who are willing to pay them money to support them and their work? Are already doing that, with Patreon or buying tickets to live shows or buying merch. The people who would be willing to pay for this are already paying and get nothing for the support they're giving? The patreon is still up and now just only supports their podcasts, which I didn't know existed until now? Wild.
And how are they going to grow their platform? Don't all of their shows have the same cast, sometimes with guests? So the people paying for this service are already fans of their shows and their plan for growth is to upload the first episode to youtube? How many people are going to watch something they know is being held elsewhere? How many people will feel tricked when they watch an episode of something and realize the rest is paywalled on a tiny subscription service? Like with other services like Dropout or even Maximum Fun you often get pulled in to other shows. Esp if you're paying for it like why not see what else is out there, then you get attached and keep going. But this will have maybe four shows? How are they going to continue?
And with ANOTHER subscription service? We're out here with HBO MAX Plus and Paramount and Peacock and fucking Shudder and you're adding onto that with a minimal amount of shows??
Again I'm a casual as hell fan. I'm watching this with fascination. I don't understand it. Like, in all honesty I would love for this to work out for them. I just don't...see.....how......
honestly, in a different climate I think the Watcher move would have been treated with much more support. A bunch of independent creators trying to get out from under the thumb of advertisers and corporations to make more content for fans? Great! Doing that at a time where people working full time jobs can't afford to live without 4 roommates and have to decide between groceries or life saving meds, when the previous model supported a small company? BAD.
respectfully, this is a TERRIBLE idea and you’re about to lose the majority of your fanbase, myself included, because we can’t afford to eat, let alone subscribe to another streaming service
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but if you’re at a low point:
If you were a fictional man right now, there would be *at least* ten people if not a large portion of the fanbase that would call you their wet beast poor little meow meow
