Beleg and Mablung were two great captains of the Sindar who served under Elu Thingol, King of Doriath. Contrary to Beleg, who was on duty in the marches of Doriath, Mablung seems to have been in a position of command in Menegroth and present at important events. They were the only Iathrim who joined the hosts of the Noldor in Nirnaeth Arnoediad. Together with King Thingol, Beren Erchamion, and Huan, they participated in the Hunting of the Wolf, after which Mablung cut the Silmaril from the belly of Carcharoth. They were later individually caught in the Doom of the children of Hurin.

Manwë was the leader of the Ainur, one of the Aratar, King of the Valar, husband of Varda, brother of the Dark Lord Melkor, and King of Arda. He was also known as Súlimo, Mânawenûz or Valahiru, and lived atop Mount Taniquetil in Valinor, the highest mountain of the world. The winds and airs were his servants.
