rules
1) this isn’t a ship blog. and i don’t plan to make it one. these guys are just bandmates and college classmates in this setting and any romantic relationships between them are their business, not yours.
2) this is humanverse. that not only means referring to them by their human names (linked in the pinned post), but also leaving politics and other country matters out of it.
3) be respectful. the band is taking time out of their rehearsal to answer your question. the least you can do is avoid any rudeness. be respectful to me, the characters, and anyone else.
4) do not send anything nsfw. of course, these are college kids, and they’re gonna swear and make sexual jokes now and then, but that’s as far as things will go. they’re all just here to have fun and make music together.
5) these are my own headcanons. this should go without saying, but the sections, personalities, etc are my personal headcanons and may not adhere strictly to canon or your own interpretation. pls be respectful of that.

When asking a question...
-be specific about who you’re asking. you can ask a specific person, or a specific section, but make sure you state it outright.
-keep in mind that there are some characters i’m more familiar with than others, so i may not be perfectly ic 100% of the time. i promise i’m doing my best!
-remember that i have the right to ignore your question if it breaks any rules.

having trouble understanding terms?
admin tolyys here! As a band kid myself, I realize I have inside knowledge and may use words and phrases people who haven’t been in a band won’t understand. And because I can only speak from my own experience, I only know the versions of terms I was taught. So that there’s no confusion, I put together a guide of the terms I might use frequently on this blog.
--
Drum Major/Field Commander
a student director. They're still a member of the band, but instead of playing their instrument with everyone else, they direct the band during rehearsals and shows, so that the director can focus on watching the drill and taking care of issues as soon as they come up.
Drill
the routines, the "marching" formations
Set
the single movement in a drill, point A to point B
Drill Book
the guidebook that shows where to stand for each set
Dot
a physical marker to mark your spot on the field when you're first learning a set, so you have a visual guide. In my band, they're flat, red rubber circles with numbers on them, and they're very throwable. they make awesome frisbees.
Roll-step
a method of matching that involves rolling your feet from heel to toe, which keeps your upper body as still as possible so the sound of your instrument isn't bouncing around while you march
In step/off step/out of step
during drills, everyone has to move at the same time. Marching in step means walking (or roll-stepping) to the beat of the song you’re playing, always starting with your left foot. off step/out of step is the opposite (wrong speed, wrong foot, etc)
Sectionals
A block of time set aside where each section goes off on their own to learn their parts of the music together as a section without the having to hear the rest of the band
Section
a group of people who all play the same instrument (for instance, everyone who plays the trumpet belongs in the trumpet section)
Mouthpiece
the part of wind instruments (aka every instrument you play by blowing air through it) where you put your mouth to blow the air. Also surprisingly throwable.
Reed
an asshole piece of wood that woodwind instruments (mainly saxophone and clarinet in this particular setting) require to make noise. They break easily and if they're set even remotely wrong they squeak loudly enough to deafen the band. Beware.
--
I’ll make another post soon detailing members of each section (which will also address topics like woodwind vs brass instruments)
please feel free to dm me if you find or think of a term I’ve missed, and I’ll add it!
