Bro I've been THINKING about this. There's no way he's followed EVERY contract through.

And just the idea of him being BORN is bonkers. Like, was he born as an adeptal like creature? Or as a human?

And in EITHER situation, I imagine he probably had to crawl and fight and kick his way to the top. Having authority means gaining respect and vice versa - he must have some interesting "loopholes" in his contracts to get that far.

I also feel that the title "God of Contracts" is more something that was gifted to him upon becoming an Archon. He had the first seat, right? I imagine that Celestia had some sort of crazy contract about that. And then to make sure it was upheld, she made them the god of them???

Not too sure what I think of entirely, but really interested in his relationship with order and authority.

I like to think sometimes that despite zhongli being the god of contracts its not like he has NEVER broken a contract.

Ofc its not like hes broken many or at least after he became an archon.

But imagine during the archon war he made a contract with a neighboring god with the intention of breaking said contract or knowing he will if it comes to that. Then it did happen and after whatever mess happens, he defeats said god and rules over whatever people they had now.

But he broke a contract. He has to be punished, but who is there to punish him?

I think it would be pretty cool if he told the people who once served the god he just killed that he will take whatever punishment they deem fit.

I would assume in such a scenario that would cause zhongli to do this means the god was evil or not very good to their people. So maybe the people would just have him help them rebuild. Be a better god than the one they had.

I also have to wonder if that counts as a punishment? Or is it enough of one to make up for the fact that he broke a contract with another god?

You could even make it more angsty by having the people be afraid of morax and reject him. They just want him to leave. Could make a really good story.

I also wonder what he was like before guili and the archon war. I doubt he was born with the ideal (??) of obeying contracts. I wonder if that's something he had to learn. If that's an important life lesson for him.

I wonder if he was apathetic and feral growing up. He broke countless "contracts" and betrayed hundreds to further his own desires much like many others. We dont know what the world was like then. It could have been chaos pretty much everywhere.

But then through a series of events he realizes the importance of order. The importance of "fairness" and keeping your word. So far, as far as i know, guili plains was really peaceful and about the only time and place we know of literally right before the archon war. I wonder if this is because it was one of the very few safe places to be in before the archon war. I wonder if everywhere else was chaos.

We dont know how long zhongli and guizhong were ruling guili plains but now im really wondering what made him be able to rule such a prosperous place.

That and zhongli has said he doesn't wish for dominion, but he cannot let the common folk suffer. WHY?! I WANNA KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO MAKE YOU FEEL THIS WAY! even though he co ruled guili plains he was probably more there as a protector like the ei and makoto relationship. It was definitely not nearly as big as liyue of today. Had way less people. Did he enforce laws by himself? Hell how present was he around his people? He had tove been seen far more during such a time to defend them.

Did they use to tell their children horror stories about him to get them to behave?

I'm beginning to ramble a lot but it's just so fascinating to think about all of these "what if" scenarios. I'm dying to know more about pre-guili morax. I'm surprised the traveler has never asked if hes ever even once broken a contract in his long life, or if he thinks there could be a reason he ever would.

Thinking of Azhdaha holding Morax close to his chest, contemplating his conflicting emotions. This is the young god who brought him back to the surface, gave him eyes to see. But he is also what the Primordial One represents, and he can't help but feel angry that Morax has what was taken from him as a Sovereign.

This is his beloved, this world is all Morax has ever known. How could he expect him to understand a world before the Primordial One and humanity??

So he just kisses the side of his head and hums the song of the earth as a lullaby, knowing that there truly are none who share the memory left, and that even he will forget about it in due time.

Random question. So we all know that Chongyun has a pure Yang spirit that repels all evil spirits. So I'm wondering if characters like Collei (who has the Archon residue sealed inside her) would be able to go near him. Or maybe she'd subconsciously feel a sense of sickness fatigue fear or something along those lines since she's not a spirit but the one inside her is still affected. Or maybe I'm thinking too much into things.
