i think about bucktommy falling in/being in love a lot. like. god. how beautiful and settled that must feel for tommy specifically. he's had a rough childhood, he's waited for love and then he literally finds it in the most unexpected way possible when an old coworker calls him out of the fucking blue to put his job at risk. and the next thing he knows he's got this boy by his side and he loves him and he loves him and he loves him and he would die for him, yes, but he would live for him even more and that's. that's so.

im loving the fact that tommy is an established character with established relationships with the 118, just like karen, just like athena, just like maddie, because that was a huge thing that made it a part of why i think it was so hard to like bucks previous love interests.

like, yes. abby and taylor tried to gel with them, ali kinda knew OF them, but natalia was completely seperate and lucy wasnt even really a love interest. neither of the main 2 (abby and taylor) actually had any link to anyone other than buck. taylor was the closest (but she fucked that up badly lmao).

im so hyped to see whether we get more of tommy and the 118, because he has history with all of them, except eddie (who he's now good friends with), and buck (who he is now dating).

if you look at all the other 'partners', they are all a part of the 118 family, and pretty linked together: athena is besties with hen and married to bobby, karen lived across from and was good friends with chimney and is now married to hen, maddie is bucks brother and is married to chimney, etc.

i feel like bucks other love interests were only ever linked to him, and he always worried about losing them, because he didnt think he was good enough.

but this time with tommy the difference is (tommy actually cares about buck) that hes known by his family and hes safe and hes confident and caring and patient, plus the rest of the 118 all think hes a good guy, and also tommy saved bathena and chimney and hes friends with eddie, and christopher likes him, etc.

everybody that matters to buck, except maddie, likes and knows tommy.

(and who is he going to introduce tommy to next episode? maddie.)

maybe buck doesnt have to worry so much about him leaving, like abby did, or worry how to introduce tommy to his family and not have him run for the hills from the complex parts of his life, like natalia or ali did

Favourite Bucktommy headcanons that have kept me going in these terrible 9 days without an episode

Buck is Tommy's first serious relationship after a bad breakup he had a few years ago and he's just as nervous about all this as Buck is

Buck really likes the scar over Tommy's ribs. He kisses it when they cuddle at night, he traces his fingertips over it and loves that he can feel it through Tommy's shirts

Tommy always lets Buck know when he's landed safely and Buck always lets Tommy know when they've gotten back to the station safely. They both know the danger of their jobs and check in regularly with one another

Tommy cannot believe how little Buck knows about pop culture and the first few times he stays over at Buck's place he brings DVDs of his favourite movies. Buck watches them because Tommy plays with his hair while they watch and he'll do anything to have Tommy's arms around him. When Buck starts quoting the movies at work, Tommy gets a barrage of texts from Chimney asking him what his secret is (Tommy does not mention there's often oral sex involved)

They got 5 minutes into Muay Thai lessons before they realised it was never going to work because Buck kept kissing Tommy to distract him and Tommy kept letting him

The first night they spend together, Buck spends most of the night awake because he's not used to someone in his bed, and he realises that he really fucking loves how Tommy twitches in his sleep and makes small noises when he's having a nightmare (he has those fairly regularly)

Tommy tried calling him "Buck" once and they both cringed and have never tried it again since

Buck loves calling Tommy pet names and he tries them all out. Most are met with a smirk or a laugh but there are a few that Tommy's eyes soften at. Buck is also the only person that's allowed to call him "Tom", or "Thomas" when he's being a little shit

Buck sends Tommy instagram reels and tiktoks all the time. Tommy didn't have either app until they started dating and downloaded them specifically for Buck. Now he's more addicted to them than Buck is

okay something serious now though i want to talk about hen and karen. there was so much growth in them as foster parents. the fact that this journey started with how their first journey with their baby girl nia ended, and they were fine. they saw it as a good thing that the baby girl they wanted so badly get to stay home, and they were head strong together in their decision to move forward with mara. i love the way they wanted to give all the care and kindness from the very start to mara, but how they were also very honest with their fears and doubts, and talked to each other about it. how no matter what they wanted to put denny top of mind first

they were together through the whole thing, communicated through the whole thing, used their community, their best friends to help them through the whole thing and i adored that. they were the epitome of what it means to be good parents, and not only did we get to see that with their efforts with mara, but with also how denny was when it came to the whole experience. he was so careful and kind with her, followed his moms' lead. when he got 7 stitches, he wasn't even upset, understood that she didn't mean it. and that is just the compassion, love and understanding he has learned from and through his moms coming through

the world is a better place because of hen and karen wilson are in it. we are so lucky to have them

The way some of the worst offenders out here claim to love Buck but also clearly think he’s completely fucking stupid will never not be funny. Whether it’s them fully misunderstanding the storyline he’s in, or thinking he’s misplaced his affection, or doing the whole “he needs all his friends to tell him he’s in love with-”

I’m sorry to be the one to tell you this but he is a grown man. A little bit of a messy fool sometimes, yes, but who among us isn’t? He runs his own life and pays his own bills and has shown generally increasing levels of emotional maturity. Everybody was so sure he’d be destroyed over the beloathed sperm donor arc, but he was totally fine and fully understood the boundaries.

He occasionally makes mistakes and says or does the wrong thing because he’s a very human character with flaws like jealousy and impetuousness and overeagerness or overcompensation. But he’s not this stupid helpless babychild who knows nothing about the world or himself. My god if he was half the basket case some people think he’d be sincerely unfuckingbearable as a character.
