Watchful Eyes
CEO!SteveRogers x Female!Maid!Reader AU
summary: When your best friend gets you a new job, cleaning the apartment of the most successful man in New York City, you don't hesitate to accept. The pay is more than good, and the man himself is better than any eye candy you have ever seen. Unbeknownst to you, you've caught his attention just as much. Steve can't keep his mind off you, so much so, that he drives everyone around him insane with his grumpiness when you aren't around. It seems like he has to take matters into his own hands when he realizes, you're too shy to take things further yourself.
a/n: So that just happened... I don't know where it came from, but please enjoy. (Please don’t be discouraged by the word count - I promise you it’s worth it and I kindly ask you to at least try 💛)
word count: 10.8k
warnings: power differences, Steve is pining, watching someone over secret livestream (is this stalking?), women being referred to as objects (not by Steve), just so much fluff, and also angst (there is a happy ending!), smut (masturbation - m, praise kink, oral - f receiving, dirty talk, orgasm control, overstimulation, unprotected p in v, size kink, breeding kink) !MINORS DNI!

“Can you start Monday?”
“I can start Monday.”
“Perfect.”
Holy fuckidy fuck fuck.
You had a job. A job that would crinkle some noses but it would pay money. Good money actually. Well, better than other offers in the branch.
It had been luck, really. Because during one drunken night, which had originally been dedicated to drowning yourself in self-pity over the last job that had let you go due to staff cuts, your friend Natasha had crashed your party with Chinese food and gossip from her workplace. She was an assistant for one of the CEO’s of Shield Protection Services. And during her lunch with Sharon, the other assistant, Sharon had complained about Steve Rogers and how he had fired the third maid this month because they, apparently, were taking pictures of his home or selling some of his things.
There might have been some talk about how picky and stuck up he could be but the important info was that Sharon was desperate at this point and had asked Nat if she knew anyone with the decency not to breach privacy and willingness to clean the CEO’s home.
The good thing - or bad thing, you weren’t sure - was, Nat knew you were desperate too. So she gave Sharon your number and before you knew it, you were an employed woman again.
❁ ❁ ❁
It was too early for you to be roaming the streets of New York, but you had gotten instructions and so you had gotten up at 6 and headed out to the address. And when you arrived, it felt as though it was the first time you blinked since the subway - you were that tired. Definitely not a morning person.
The building was huge, tall glass fronts stretching into the sky and the ride up to the penthouse took longer than your average elevator rides did.
The doors opened and revealed a beautiful open floor plan. A whole wall of windows brought natural light into the place and offered a view so breathtaking, it took you a moment to collect yourself. The place was ginormous - a lot to clean up - but seemed tidy enough to at least get started right away.
You placed your bag on the counter by the kitchen and took more of the place in when suddenly, a voice startled you.
“Who are you?” You whipped around, big eyes searching for the source until they landed on a tall man standing in what seemed to be a dining area - well, one of them at least. He had broad shoulders, neatly styled hair and one of those toothpaste smiles you only ever saw in magazines. He was wearing office attire, blue dress pants that slightly stretched over his muscled thighs, and when your head wandered back up his body, piercing blue eyes seemed to stare right into your soul.
Holy Shit.
Before you stood Steve Rogers, three-time Forbes Magazine cover story, young entrepreneur turned filthy-rich hunk of a man, and CEO of the most successful security firm in this country. And he was talking to you - staring at you... waiting for an answer.
Talking, you needed to start talking, you reminded yourself.
“I’m the new maid, sir. I’m so sorry I was told to come here at 7 as you leave for work before that.”
Mr. Rogers looked at you with an unintelligible stare. Meanwhile, you were nervously wringing your hands in the doorway, looking down. You hadn’t planned for anyone important to see you today. The worn-down Fleetwood Mac shirt you didn’t mind getting bleach on hanging over some pants you pulled from the back of your closet definitely wasn’t the kind of outfit you expected to greet Steve Rogers in. Great start. This was going awful.
“Well I’m here aren’t I?” His arms folded before his chest as his eyebrow raised, impressive biceps bulging beneath the white button-up, and - damn - it was hard not to stare.
“Right. Yes. Sorry. I’ll come back later.” You turned to leave again but he stopped you.
“No need. I am on my way out.” The left corner of his mouth twitched into a cheeky grin when he grabbed his bag, left the newspaper discarded on the table, and placed his coffee mug in the sink. Interesting.
“Don’t snoop.” He whispered teasingly as he passed you, a whiff of expensive cologne paralyzing your senses and you weren’t sure if he was making a suggestion or actually warning you. That damn perfume seemed to hypnotize you.
Your eyes followed his broad shoulders until they disappeared behind the corner and then the elevator doors shut. It seemed to take all the tension from your face. You exhaled long and then began to look around some more.
The place was huge, you’d already established that. But when you found the third bedroom amongst the private office and Pool table room, you knew you had to make a weekly plan to work off. You had to give Mr. Rogers credit, though. There was rarely any clutter lying around - it wasn’t dirty per se - just had the usual dust you’d expect in a place this size with only one person living in it.
You huffed, resting your hand on your hips once you completed the tour. And then you got started.
❁ ❁ ❁
Steve peered up from his computer screen when Bucky strolled through the doors of his office. A coffee in hand he had most likely tweaked from his assistant's desk on the way here, he shot a grin to his oldest friend and business partner.
“What ya doing, punk?” The brunette asked teasingly when he circled the desk and settled on the window sill behind Steve.
“Just making sure things stay in order.” He leaned back and turned around slightly, just in time to see his friend nod knowingly.
“Heard Nat got you a new maid.” Bucky dipped his chin towards the laptop still open on the desk. “That her?”
His eyes wandered to the screen where a live feed of his apartment streamed you changing his bedsheets. He hummed in agreement.
“She’s pretty,” Bucky commented before sipping his coffee again and Steve felt an unfamiliar feeling bubble in his stomach. “But I bet you don’t care anyway. You’re all ‘don’t sell my stuff’ and ‘having things stolen from a security firm CEO is embarrassing’. Wouldn’t know a pretty thing like that if it climbed you.”
“Because it is embarrassing. And I highly recommend you monitor your staff to make sure they don’t do the same.” Of course, Steve knew you were ‘pretty’. Exactly his type, to be honest. He had noticed it the second you stepped into his apartment this morning. The way your hands wrung beneath you. And he had shot you a teasing remark in hopes of discovering a sassy fire in those timid doe eyes of yours. But you had stumbled over your words like a fawn.
Bucky clicked his tongue disapprovingly. “Nonsense. Peggy is great - and too old to even carry anything valuable out of my place. I trust her with my life and house keys.” And then he pushed off the sill. “I think it’s time for you to get laid again. And that’s why I’m a great friend and organized dinner and drinks with Tony and Sam tonight.”
Steve fell back in his chair, hands over his eyes. “I don’t need your wing-maning me. I’m perfectly fine on my own.”
“Sure.”
“I’m serious, Buck.”
“You can thank me later.” He stout towards the door. “You know... after you’ve been devoured by the pretty little waitress at the Ironbar.” Bucky winked before his face disappeared again.
Steve just huffed as his eyes landed back on the weekly report on his desk and then swayed back to his computer screen.
As unwilling as he was to admit it, it had been some time since his last late-night rendezvous. And as he saw you crawl up on his bed to place the bedsheets properly along his mattress, he felt his pants tighten slightly.
❁ ❁ ❁
“We’ll get one more round of the good stuff.”
“Of course Mr. Stark.” Tony winked and patted his waitress’s butt before she stalked away on her high heels and towards the locked glass cabinet behind the bar.
Steve had designed it himself, a fiberglass shrine-like display for ridiculously expensive liquors, only to be opened by a passcode that got regenerated every week. He watched as Betty - the young and lanky waitress - retrieved a crystal bottle of whiskey and filled four glasses with the golden liquid.
“God, I love that thing,” Tony sighed next to Steve and watched Betty with a satisfied smile.
“You better be talking about that cabinet, Stark.” Steve shook his head with a frown only to receive a wink from Tony, who was sitting closest to him at the round table.
“So...” Bucky leaned over to Steve and spoke in a hushed voice. “You see anything you like?” He gestured at the bar where Tony’s carefully picked waitresses passed with filled and emptied glasses and bottles. They were all wearing tight black t-shirts and skirts or shorts that counted just as scandalous. One could foolishly mistake this place for a Hooters if Tony hadn’t made it one of the most pristine bars in all of New York City.
It was popular amongst the clientele which mainly consisted of bored rich men that came here to get something to look at without being judged for it. But Steve wasn’t feeling the girls today. When Betty shoved her breasts in his field of view, all he could think about was how he had never gotten the idea to get his maids a uniform that catered to his... liking. And when Betty swayed her hips on her way to the bar, his thoughts became clouded by the image of you in a short little skirt, riding up just a little to tease I’m about what was hidden underneath when you kneeled on his bed to get the sheets sorted.
Steve adjusted his pants at the little flashback, clearing his throat and sitting up straighter in his seat.
“Oh, apparently you have...” Bucky grinned before his eyes hushed down to Steve’s crotch and back up just as fast. “Well then,” he leaned back with a satisfied grin. “Which one is it? Samatha? Tiffany? Though I think Megan is more your type.”
“Just shut up, punk.”
“Okay you don’t have to tell me me... either way, my job here is done.” He brushed his hands off fake dust and smiled smugly. “You better be in a good mood tomorrow.”
Steve just huffed and waited for Betty to come back with ‘the good stuff’ to hopefully drown out his annoying friends for the rest of the night. It wasn’t that he didn’t like them. No, he would do anything for the people he chose to have in his life. The group he found himself in right now had been through thick and thin with him, stayed through his fame and fortune, and was just as supportive before it had all happened to either of them. He was happy having the guys because they built each other up and aimed for greatness - together, they were fucking invincible.
But sometimes, Steve felt a little out of place amongst Bucky and Tony. It was in situations regarding women most of all because he could never adapt the attitude to talk about them the way they did. And he never had the headspace to juggle as many as they did. He had tried the one-night stands. But he struggled to navigate the superficial pleasure maze New York City provided in masses. Because just as the ever-passing smiles on the streets, it wasn’t fulfilling enough for Steve. At least not in the way it was for his friends.
He wanted what Sam had. A partner, a family, something constant and beautiful. And that was, why he found himself asking for pictures of Sam’s kids and nephews rather than listen to Tony’s latest bed bunny endeavor whenever the conversations took a turn in that direction.
“Earth to Rogers,” Sam’s finger snapped in front of Steve’s face. “What this I’m hearing? You got a new maid? What happened to the old one?”
“She sold his stuff on Craigslist.” Bucky snorted and took a sip of the drink that had magically appeared in front of them.
“You aren’t serious.”
“I really liked that tie,” Steve grumbled into his cup.
“Man, I’m glad I don’t have to deal with things like that. You rich people really are a different breed.”
“You’re rich, too, Sam.”
Sam just smiled above his crystal glass, having fun with the little joke he liked to pull for ages now. He wasn’t any less successful than any of the other men at their table. But other than them, he had settled in a beautiful neighborhood - despising the concrete jungle each of the other guys lived in. His house felt like home, like a cozy place that had seen love and time and nothing like the polished and sleek man caves the rest of them owned.
“Well, anyways, my amazing assistant organized him a new one, the prettiest thing - really. But he’s refusing to see it.”
Tony chuckled. “Well, that's Rogers in a nutshell, isn’t it.”
Sam just pursed his lips and glanced over at Steve with a soft smile, ignoring the comments of the other guys. They never explicitly talked about it, but Sam was a smart man, and it would have surprised Steve, had he not already figured out that he was more of a family man than their friends were as of right now.
“To new maids that aren’t selling your clothes on the internet then.” He raised his drink and winked at Steve once their glasses clinked.
And Steve? He visibly exhaled, silently thanking Sam for pulling the tension out of their conversation.
❁ ❁ ❁
It had been a little over a week. And so far, things had been going great.
By now, you had cleaned through the entire place once and set up a plan of what to do on which day. You weren’t surprised it actually took a full 6 days to cover every single room in Mr. Rogers’s apartment. You had already figured out which tasks were going to be your favorite and which weren’t. Like his bedroom. You liked doing that. Because even though the sheets were a bitch to get on the ginormous bed, you kind of liked the smell the room had. His pillows smelled of the cologne you couldn’t forget ever since the man had brushed past you on your very first day.
You were pretty sure you would never forget that since your knees literally felt like giving in at that moment.
Today, it was bedroom day. That and the on-suite.
With a smile on your face, you entered the apartment on the top floor, each day secretly hoping you’d catch a glimpse of the CEO before he took off to work. But even though you tried to arrive ten minutes earlier (you really couldn’t spare any more sleep for your own good), the first day remained an exception in Mr. Rogers’s daily schedule.
You placed your bag on the stool at the open kitchen island, changed into some other shoes, and headed for the supply closet. Despite the size of the place, you actually got around pretty easily. Mr. Rogers was a very organized and neat man - you’d noticed that the first and only time you met him. So things were almost always where you’d think they would be. Which made your job just that much easier. But also prevented you from the advised ‘not snooping’ you desperately wanted to do.
You knew better though.
People like Steve Rogers probably had cameras installed in this place. And you would certainly not go and rummage through his underwear drawer after he had personally told you not to. Who knows what strings powerful people like him could pull. So, for the sake of not waking up on a cargo ship to Madagascar one day, you restrained yourself as much as possible.
Of course, you didn’t stop your eyes from wandering whenever you swept the shelves in his walk-in closet or closed the drawers in his office space. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. And this girl had a nosy best friend on her back that wanted to know every little detail of her new job... and was also way too invested in celebrity gossip.
Though, as always, there was nothing out of the ordinary today - there never was. Sure, it was still exciting to see how the filthy rich lived but other than that, no scandalous collection of women’s underwear, or drug lord papers lying around. You started to believe that Steven Grant Rogers was a very boring man. Not that you could properly judge in your position, seeing as you did not really know him, but the whole being in his home seemed a little too intimate not to do so.
So that day you finished the tasks for the day, packed your stuff, and made your way back home, hoping to see him in the morning or to at least find something more interesting than dust in his home.
❁ ❁ ❁
Steve greeted the concierge of his building when he entered the marbled entree hall. With a little frown and a look at his watch, the man greeted him back before he resumed his work.
Yes, Steve was home earlier than usual. He regularly stayed even longer than his original work schedule intended. Today, however, he was home even earlier. But after another banter with Bucky about Steve’s non-existent sex life, he couldn’t imagine making it past five in the same building as his persistent best friend. So, he fled the office and decided to work through the rest of his papers at home.
Of course, Steve knew that Bucky only wanted the best for him. But the ways he tried to approach the supposed bothersome loneliness Steve had in his bed just weren’t for Steve. Those might have worked on Tony - hell, Tony probably invented setting his friends up with one-night-stands - but not on Steve.
He huffed and swiped some loose hairs from his forehead as the elevator dinged at the top floor. The doors opened to the window front of his penthouse apartment and Steve stepped over the threshold, immediately stopping in his tracks when he took in the scene before him.
The vacuum was running while you were kneeling on the floor, wiping up some water he only assumed came from the vase missing next to his sofa. He would have found it rather amusing if it weren’t for the way you carried yourself today. Something wasn’t right.
Steve knew that you weren’t usually this messy - that much he could tell from the livestream that had become a constant in his office by now. Your head hung low, your motions hurried and sloppy. He watched as you swiped the floor, one of your sleeves constantly slipping down your arm again until you angrily pushed it up further than necessary.
It was worrisome.
He couldn’t place the feeling he felt in his chest when he sat his briefcase down and approached you from behind. His foot carefully turned off the vacuum and then he stood still, careful not to startle you when you finally looked up at him.
He could see it in your eyes then. The panic, the uncertainty, and something else he hadn’t seen in them before.
You looked around you as if you were seeing the mess for the first time and when Steve was still watching you with an arched brow after a minute of silence, you suddenly sprung up to your feet.
“I am so Sorry, Mr. Rogers. I didn’t realize it was this late already.” You turned a full 360 until your eyes landed on his again. “I’ll have this cleaned up in no time and I'll be out of your way. I promise.”
Steve watched as you scrambled to gather the vacuum cord, struggling with it when it didn’t immediately snap back into the caster. “The subway was stuck in a tunnel for an hour because some guy decided to pull the emergency break for fun. And then this lady passed out next to me and when the fire department finally got us out and the paramedics packed her in the ambulance, I realized that I still had her purse.” You finally got the cord in turning so fast that the wet rag in your hands sprayed some water on Steve. “And do you know how difficult it is to find out which hospital they’re taking people? Because it’s so much more difficult than it looks in the movies. I didn’t know that! And then it was almost 10 a.m. when I got here. I am so sorry. This won’t happen again I promise-“
“Hey,” Steve finally stepped forward and caught your flailing hands with his and it shut you up. “It’s alright.” He spoke softly, guiding your hands down and proceeding to carefully stroke your arms down. “Are you okay? Do you need a day off?”
Your doe eyes stared up at him, round and shiny as if you couldn’t believe he was actually standing in front of you. And Steve had to admit, besides the concern breezing through his body, your face was capturing up close. He traced your lashes with his gaze, the way your lips were parted slightly, your teeth showing past your upper lip, and the way your eyebrows were raised in shock.
“No... no, I’m fine.” You finally stammered and it made Steve relax a little.
“Then take a breath for me, please.” You nodded and Steve watched as your shoulders moved when you inhaled with your eyes closed. It shook Steve out of his trance. He cleared his throat and retreated his hands from your arms, awkwardly standing up a little straighter now that there was no excuse to touch you anymore.
You were fine - that’s what you had said. But you didn’t quite seem that way.
He watched as you opened your eyes and gifted him a small smile. Then your gaze dew to the floor and the mess you were standing in. Your smile turned awkward.
“I’ll clean this up real quick and then I’ll be out of your hair.”
Steve shook his head with a smile. Maybe this was a nice opportunity to do as Bucky had suggested. It was true, Steve hadn’t been interested enough before. Had he taken more time to know his former maids better, he could have probably prevented his things from being stolen and sold. Maybe it wasn’t exactly what Bucky had meant by ‘interested’, but Save decided it would do for now. “You can do what you need to and you can take as much time as you need to. I’ll be in my office for some time, so please don’t rush. I didn’t mean to freak you out by coming home earlier.”
His arms reached up to scratch the back of his neck and your eyes landed on his bicep. Those damn doe eyes. “O- okay.”
He nodded, buried his hands in his pockets, gifted you a tight-lipped smile, and then proceeded to grab his briefcase and disappear into his office at the end of the hall.
After some time, he heard the vacuum pick back up. Steve peaked through his open office door and caught a glimpse of you roaming his living room every now and then. It was relieving to know that you were functioning again. You had him worried for a second there - a feeling the successful CEO hadn’t welcomed in a hot minute. But it was kind of nice, made him feel a little more human than usual. So he didn’t mind having you work while he was home. On the contrary, actually, even though he had a huge stack of papers to go through, having to do them with a little bit of white noise was much more efficient than he had thought. He liked it when the occasional sound of items being set down snook its way to his office just to be interrupted by the vacuum again. And before he knew it, the workload he had taken home with him today, was worked through.
Steve made his way to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee. Though, as he waited for the machine, he found himself leaning against the counter and watching you work in front of him. You were currently bent over the sofa, arranging the cushions after shaking them out, your shirt riding up ever so slightly and exposing a strip of skin on your back.
The fresh grounding of coffee beans covered the way Steve gulped loudly at the sight of you in front of him. This was definitely different than watching on his laptop screen. He felt his pants tighten ever so slightly as he imagined walking up to you and just taking you from behind. Your face would press into the pillows as he would easily push into you, hearing your drawn-out moans through the cushions.
He couldn’t help himself, you were just so pretty.
The smell of coffee drew Steve back to reality. It wasn’t that simple. Because Steve wanted you to want him as well. But you didn’t know him well enough yet.
You pulled the vacuum around the corner and seconds later the sound of the storage room door closing echoed through the apartment. You walked back into the living room, adjusted the book on his coffee table, and then looked at your work with your hands on your hips. It was kind of cute to watch, Steve had to admit.
“Well done,” Steve praised and your shoulders jerked in surprise.
“Woah, didn’t see you there, Sir.” You relaxed again and then moved to change your shoes, before packing the other pair in your bag. You looked like you were about to leave, but Steve didn’t want that.
“Would you like some coffee?” He offered and turned to grab the mug that was just filled with the steaming hot beverage.
But you shook your head, raising your hands. “Oh, I wouldn’t want to intrude. I’m sure you’ve got work to do...”
“I wouldn’t have asked if it were an inconvenience.”
You looked down and nodded, which made Steve smile and hand you the cup. Your hands encased it like it was a cold winter's day, timid looks roaming the room and landing everywhere but him.
“You seem uncomfortable,” he tried, cautious not to intrude.
“I’m not. It’s just that... I’m not used to,” you gestured around the kitchen, “all this.”
“I know it sounds stupid but sometimes I feel the same.” Steve took in the high ceilings and shiny surfaces, the expensive paintings and furniture he had no part in picking out.
You just stared at him again before nodding and averting your eyes once more. It seemed like you were holding back, but Steve didn’t feel like he was in the position to ask. So he just had to do with your fleeting glances and diffident presence. It was fine for now. Though he didn’t know if he could actually stand it for long.
“You got this job through Bucky’s assistant, right?”
“Natasha, yes. She’s my best friend.” Your eyes lit up and Steve celebrated the little victory in silence. He had finally found something to talk about with you.
“How long have you known each other?” He took a sip of his own coffee, acting indifferent, though his gaze hung on your lips.
“We’ve been friends since high school. But then we went to different colleges and for a moment, we lost contact. But when I called her after graduation, we reconnected. We coincidentally both moved to New York. It’s nice to have her back.”
“That does sound nice. I know a thing or two about reconnecting with old friends.” Steve smiled reminiscent.
“Right, your business partner. Mr. Barnes.” You set your mug down when Steve shot you a surprised look. “Sorry, but it’s hard not to know things about you when every tabloid in the country has covered your story.”
Steve nodded, being reminded once again how different his life was now. Not that he didn’t appreciate it... it just used to be simpler.
“Yes, Bucky is my oldest friend... we’d lost contact in-between as well. Now we spend so much time together, I sometimes wish it was that way again.”
“You don’t mean that,” you laughed and Steve swore it was the prettiest he’d ever heard.
“Of course not.” He set his cup down once he noticed that you had finished your coffee and had grabbed your bag from the stool.
“I should go,” you smiled sadly and Steve just nodded with a similar expression on his face. Then he pushed off the counter and walked you to the elevator. He caught your small wave before the doors closed, leaving his stomach feeling warm and fuzzy.
This was definitely new.
❁ ❁ ❁
The next week was pure torture.
Steve couldn’t work from home like he had wanted to. He also couldn’t go to work later to at least catch a ‘good morning’ from you.
It had only lasted a couple more days. He had managed to trap you for a conversation with coffee two times after the first one and then it all went downhill from there.
Steve’s work seemed to pile up in unusual amounts of papers on his desk. His e-mails and meetings were longer than ever and his frustrations built with every new message Sharon redirected to his phone.
It wasn’t until Bucky pointed out how unusually grumpy he was, that Steve realized, he missed you. How could that have happened? He barely knew you and talked to you even less than that. But he knew he was missing you. Because as silly as it sounded, the time he spent with you, he was more relaxed than ever before.
“I’m headed home, now. Do you need anything before I go?” Sharon popped her head through the door of Steve’s office after the knock she placed there.
Steve just sighed as he closed one of a dozen tabs on his computer. Then he shook his head. “See you tomorrow.”
“Bright and early!” She beamed and Steve just waved her off.
The door fell shut once again and Steve moved to close a second tab. The one open beneath was the video footage of his home. It was paused because Steve had categorized it as ‘not suited for work’ once he saw you climb on his bed to straighten out the sheets and his dick reminded him just how deprived he really was.
Looking at the paused video now, his pants tightened again. There you were, on all fours on his bed, tugging the sheet under the headboard side of his mattress - ass up and struggling. Fucking hell.
His hand instinctively moved to his crotch to relieve some tension and then his eyes fell to his office door. Sharon had gone home. He was likely the only one left. His gaze wandered back to his computer screen and before he knew it, he was rubbing his hard cock through his pants.
He groaned lowly at the feeling spreading through his body, the image on his screen just intensifying the scenarios he usually imagined when he got himself off. Because now they had your face. And your perfect body. If he squinted at the screen, he could actually see a sliver of your underwear peaking out the top of your pants.
“Jesus Christ,” He pushed through his teeth when his hands worked to open his belt and pulled his rock-hard length out. He was already leaking from the angry red tip.
His thumb grazed over his sensitive flesh, spreading the beads of precum and his whole body shivered when he imagined you doing it instead. His knees spread further apart in his office chair as he squeezed the base of his cock, concentrating on his breathing to slow. And then, without thinking, his other hand moved to play the video.
Steve’s eyes never left the screen as he watched you tug the sheets tight. Your ass bounced up and down with the motion and he began to pump his shaft, imagining pushing into you from behind. Then you crawled back slowly, careful not to pull the sheet off again, but one corner came loose anyway. As you leaned forward, your new position seemed even more obscene - with your arms stretched forward and your ass still slightly lifted off the mattress.
Steve’s fist pumped harder up and down his cock, he was panting. He could already feel the orgasm building. His balls were on the edge of bursting - but he wanted to hold out a little longer.
For a second, his gaze jumped to the little speaker icon at the bottom right corner of his screen. His right hand still pumping with a tight grip, the left moved to slightly turn up the volume on the stream.
Just then, you released a frustrated groan, followed by a throatier, softer noise that could almost be mistaken for a moan and Steve lost it. His fist stroked his thick cock in hard fast motions, the tingle in his body building with every heavy breath you released. His thumb grazed over his tip when you fell forward like a fawn and it was enough to make him burst.
He closed his eyes and threw his head back on the chair. With a last firm push, he tumbled over the edge, squeezing his flesh as he felt the hot ropes of cum cover his hand. His heart beat in his ears once the ecstasy subsided, his chest rising and falling with deep breaths.
Steve stared at the ceiling, sighing in defeat. He was in deep now.
❁ ❁ ❁
“So... how’s it going?” Nat’s voice rang through your speaker and you pressed your phone a little harder to your ear to hear her over the street noises.
“It’s going really good. I don’t see him that often but he’s not messy at all, so it’s really not that bad.”
“Good, I’m glad!” Nat cheered on the other end of the line and you could hear her computer keys clicking beneath her fingernails. “Anything you wanna tell me?” Her tone was suggestive, and you kind of hated how well she knew you.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Oh, come on, we’re stating the obvious here. He’s hot!”
“Nat!” You gasped appalled. “I’m not going around asking you if you think your boss is hot.”
“Why not? I'm not ashamed to admit it. My boss is hot,” she stated plainly and shorty after a distant ‘You got that right, doll!’ was heard through your speaker.
“Oh my god,” you muttered, watching around you as if anyone could hear what Nat was saying.
“So...?”
“Okay, yes he’s super hot and I wish he would just grab me with his big muscled arms and kiss the life out of me every time I see him. Are you happy now?”
“Yes, very.”
You waved at the concierge when you reached Mr. Roger’s apartment building and then stepped into the elevator. “Good. I can’t believe I just made me say that out loud.”
“We both know it’s true. No shame in a little crush.” You could practically hear her grin through the phone and it just annoyed you even more. How could she call you out when she was a mile away?
“Great, now I’m actually imagining kissing him and running my hands down his chest,” You huffed as the elevator door opened and turned the corner just to stop in your tracks.
“I knew it!”
“Nat, I’ll call you later.”
“Okay, but-“ and then you ended the call as your eyes were glued to the kitchen counter.
You stepped closer, your eyes never leaving where they had landed upon your arrival. There, on the polished black marble, stood a vase with a beautiful bouquet of pastel flowers.
Your breath hitched in your throat as your fingers traced the colorful petals, and you leaned in to smell them. This was so sweet! A little giddiness shot through your body at the sight of the flowers. You’d never expected them from Mr. Rogers and it was nice to be appreciated.
Feeling excitement all over, your fingers reached for the little white card lodged between a eucalyptus branch. But when you turned it over, all of it fell like someone had turned on gravity again.
Happy one month!
Your mind repeated the words over and over again until they registered.
Happy one month.
You dropped the card and it made a dull clicking noise on the counter. How could you have been so naïve? Nat had put this stupid haze in your brain, getting you all giddy and excited. Of course, he had a fucking girlfriend. How could he not? He was Steve fucking Rogers.
You needed to take a step back and breathe. Those were a few too many emotions to feel in the early morning for you. Now you even felt guilty about wanting to run your fingers down his body. God, you’d even said it out loud - how embarrassing!
“Okay, girl. Relax. Nobody heard,” you reminded yourself out loud. And then you took a deep breath with your eyes closed.
“It’s not embarrassing if nobody saw. I’m the only one that can decide the level of awkwardness here.” Maybe stop talking to yourself then. You nodded and carefully placed the card back in the bouquet.
“This never happened,” you whispered, more so to ensure yourself. “Just move on with your day.”
Thank god it wasn’t kitchen day - you wouldn’t be able to stand the sight of those flowers any longer.
With your shoulders pulled back and your head held high, you made your way to the supply closet and got to work.
It’s just another day. You reminded yourself when you pulled your cleaning supplies out and into the office.
Just like any other day...
❁ ❁ ❁
Boy, had you never been any more wrong.
Your phone rang at 7.30 that evening. You had already made yourself comfortable on your sofa, ready to binge a whole season of Gilmore Girls, after a successful day of pretending you hadn’t gotten the biggest turn-down of the century this morning. You had finished your cleaning plan, you had gone grocery shopping, bought yourself some own damn flowers, and even showered all before the sun had set.
But now your phone rang and the caller ID could not mean anything good.
“Hello?”
“Good evening!” Your name echoed through the speaker of your phone, a - for your taste - way too cheery woman on the other end. “I am very sorry I have to call so late. I hope I’m not interrupting anything.”
“That’s alright, what do you need?” You bit your lip nervously, only dreading the next words of Mr. Rogers’s assistant.
“Well, actually it is not I that needs anything. Mr. Rogers requested for you to see him. Is that possible?”
“What? When?”
“Now would be amazing.” Your eyes widened at her words. Mr Rogers wanted to see you and it couldn’t wait until tomorrow? You must have done something horribly wrong. Oh, god, had he noticed you messed with the flowers? Had he seen you sniff his pillows? All possible scenarios of wrongdoing swarmed your head when you sprung up and bolted for your closet.
“I can be there in thirty minutes,” you hurried through the speaker just to receive a satisfied hum from the other end.
“Amazing! Thank you so much.”
She had hung you before you could even answer. It didn’t matter. You looked through your clothes, trying to decide what an appropriate ‘getting fired’ outfit would consist of - probably no sweatpants, so you could find the closest bar and drink your sorrows away in connection to the dreaded talk.
You pulled out something, you could see yourself crying in and headed for the door.
❁ ❁ ❁
8.00 pm on the dot, the elevator doors opened to reveal a beautiful New York Skyline. Unfortunately, you neither had the headspace, nor the time to appreciate it properly. As soon as you turned the corner you saw Mr. Rogers casually leaning on the kitchen island.
Instantly, you felt intimidated. He had never done anything to make you feel scared or in danger, but his mere presence was so powerful, you didn’t quite know how to act around him. Especially, because on top of it all, he was the most attractive man you’d ever laid your eyes on.
“What did I do?” It just sprung out of you, your arms wanted to hug your body but you willed them still. He didn’t need to see how worried you really were.
To your surprise, however, his face scrunched up in amusement instead. He pushed himself off the counter and gestured towards the flowers still standing proud on that polished marble top.
“You forgot your flowers.”
“My... my flowers?” He nodded with a small frown, probably confused by your reaction. And to be honest, you were too.
“Yes... I got you flowers. You’ve officially been working here for a month. That’s a record.” He shook his head with a chuckle and then rubbed the back of his neck. “I’m... very picky.”
His eyes met yours and a whole new wave of uncertainty washed over you. You didn’t miss the hesitation in his tone, the carefully chosen wording for something he didn’t exactly say.
“So, I’m not fired.” God, why did it take so long for you to register. You just looked so stupid right now.
“On the contrary.” Mr. Rogers took a step closer, though still keeping a respectable distance. “I think I can trust you. I’m very pleased with your work. You deserve them.”
“I do?” You looked up at him with big eyes when he took another step closer. He was so tall, you had to tilt your head up now that he was so near.
“Can I trust you?”
His chest would almost touched you, if you were to breathe any heavier. Your breath hitched in your throat when the faint remains of his perfume reached your nose. It was as intoxicating - the way his eyes stared down at you - intense and looming. “Ye- Yes.”
“Good.” His voice was a raw timbre. His gaze drifted to the side, where his hand slowly reached up to lay on your shoulder. You felt warm and tingly from the touch.
Not knowing what to do exactly, you just held your breath and stared up at his eyes. They were so blue - and up close, they were so much more captivating than any magazine photograph could ever display.
You wanted to touch him, reach out, and pull him down towards you, but he had just told you he trusted you. Were you really going to risk this perfectly good job for a heated moment?
His other hand came up to graze your cheek with a careful touch and the worry of losing your job suddenly became very small. Mr. Roger’s hands were warm, his fingers almost hot even compared to your heated face.
So you did it. Your hand reached forward and landed on the top of his chest, one of them traveled down the hard plane of his torso while the other clawed at his shirt collar. His thumb traveled to your lower lip, pulling it down and then stroking over the soft flesh, touching your teeth as well.
Guided by the heat traveling through our body, your right hand tightened around his shirt and pulled him down and onto your lips. The blonde man jerked forward until his mouth crashed onto yours, immediately moving in perfect sync with yours.
Your insides were tingling from the kiss when you felt his lips pull into a smile. His big hands roamed your body until they snook around your back, pulling you flush against his body and making you sigh contently.
Mr. Rogers chuckled and then kissed you deeper. His touch was everywhere, yours too. Your mind was free of anything that wasn’t the tall, built, blonde man in your arms as soon as his tongue traced your bottom lip - asking for you to let him in. And you did just that. When he began to explore your mouth, you melted even further into his embrace.
No man had ever kissed you like that. Which was why you dreaded the moment you had to pull away for air.
Your hand landed on his cheek, thumb softly stroking his beard, eyes locked with his.
“You’re very good at this.”
He just chuckled and pecked your lips once more. “Up.” He demanded, suddenly, he grabbed your thighs and lifted you as if you weighed nothing.
“What are you doing?”
“I'm gonna show you how good I am at this.”
Then he set you down on the bed and pushed you back until your head hit the comforter. His scent, the one you’d secretly been craving ever since you started working here, engulfed you like a big blanket. He stood above you, big and broad-shouldered, looming over you like a wild animal. But you weren’t scared.
“You know how long I’ve wanted to do this?” His lips attached to your collarbone, sucking and licking bruises to your skin until you moaned beneath him and your hands clung to his hair. “I’ve been watching you,” he murmured to your neck and a shiver traveled down your spine.
“I knew it,” you gasped when he reached a spot behind your ears that sparked more pleasure. The thought of him spending his day watching you made you all excited and impatient.
“The way you stumble about this place when you clean it... How do you navigate the world being this clumsy, Bambi?” A whimper escaped you at the nickname he chose for you. “You need somebody to take care of you, huh.”
You arched your back to brush up against him. His hard cock was already straining his pants, pressing into your own deliciously. “Ah, yes.”
“Don’t worry, Bambi, I’m right here. I’ll take real good care of you.” His fingers traveled down your body until they reached the hem of your jeans and began to tug on them.
You pulled him down to your lips once more, guiding his head back to that spot behind your ear that had you squirming on the sheets. “So needy.”
His voice was so low and husky now, you barely noticed he had already worked your pants open and halfway down your legs. You kicked them off the rest of the way and arched yourself back against him just to have him grind down on your core.
“Feel so good, so big,” you mumbled through the haze you already found yourself in. God, what was it with this man - he was out of this world.
“You can’t wait any longer, can you, Bambi?” His hands moved beneath your shirt and began to massage your breasts. “But I get it. I don’t wanna wait any longer, either.”
In a swift motion, he had you flipped on your stomach, his hands traveling to your hips to pull you on all fours in front of him. Then the bed dipped and you felt his fingers press to your soaked underwear. He rubbed the drenched fabric over your entrance, only driving you wild with need when his fingers reached higher to your clit. “So pretty.”
“I need you,” you whined, “need you so bad.”
“Believe me, I need you too.” He pulled the black lace over the curve of your ass and you felt the cool bedroom air hit your wet core, only making you shiver once more.
“You’re so fucking perfect, you know that.” You could only whimper in response when his hand pushed your head into the comforter and his face suddenly pressed into your pussy from behind.
“Oh, god.” A yelp escaped you as his tongue teased at your entrance, only to be pulled back to lick a long strip from your clit back to it. His hand massaged your cheeks and the constant moaning to your core shook you from the inside out.
“This isn’t enough, is it, Bambi?” He dragged a strong finger up your spine. “You need me to fill you all the way up, don’t you? Need me to mark you, show everyone you’re mine.”
“Yes, yes, fill me up, give it all to me. Fuck me and make me yours.” You were so desperate at this point. His mouth had you squirming and aching for the promising bulge beneath his pants and you couldn’t wait to feel him raw - you’d let him do anything.
You turned your head and watched as he unbuckled his belt. Within seconds, his cock sprung free from its restraints and your breath hitched in your throat. He was thick and long, a prominent vein running along his side up to his tip, pink and already decorated by a bead of precum. Of course, Steve Rogers had a pretty cock. What wasn’t perfect about him?
“You’re so wet already, Bambi. So ready for my fat cock, aren’t you? You’ll suck me right in, I just know it.”
“Please! I wanna feel all of you.” Another whimper got swallowed by the mattress when you waited in anticipation for him to finally fuck you.
His one hand grabbed your ass and the other aligned his cock with your entrance. You could feel his head already breaching, a delicious stretch sending shocks through your body in hot and cold waves of pleasure.
He groaned lowly and it sent shivers down your spine. “Relax, baby girl. You’re so tight. You’ll be so stuffed with me.”
“I need you de-. I- ah just please!”
He worked himself forward with small rocking motions, each time reaching a little deeper into your core and when you thought he was finally all the way in, he pushed even further until your ass was pressed flush to his thighs.
You screamed into the covers and reached for something to grasp when he groaned behind you. “Gripping me like a vice, Bambi. Are you gonna be able to take it?” He shivered behind you and you could tell he was struggling to hold still until you answered him.
“I can take it. Your big cock feels so good inside me. Oh, god, please move.”
“Fuck.” Wet noises filled the room when he drew back almost all the way, just to slam back into you. In this position the curve of his cock stroked your walls perfectly, making it hard to hold back the building orgasm.
“I’m so close already, sir. I’m-”
“Fucking call me Steve,” he roared and pushed your face further into the covers. “You gonna come? Gonna squeeze my cock with your pretty little pussy already, huh?”
You could only whimper in response, the steady stroke of his body clouded your mind until you felt like you were floating.
“I-“Another scream ripped through your speech when the pleasure exploded within you. Steve slowed his motions, seemingly unable to move with the way your muscles contracted around him. And when the pulsing pleasure lessened after what felt like minutes, he picked his pace back up again.
“That was so sexy. You gonna do that again for me? I’m so fucking close.”
His hand reached around you and began to massage your clit in tight little circles and your body lifted off the bed. Steve had pulled you up flush against his chest and watched his hand work on your clit over your shoulder.
“’S too much! Ah!” You were still pulsing around his cock with every circle he traced on your bundle of nerves, making your legs quiver.
“You’re doing so good, Bambi. You can give me another. Milk my cock dry.” He kissed your neck and bit your skin. “So fucking beautiful, how’d I get so lucky?”
“Steve!” You felt another wave of please approaching, just for his fingers to still on your clit, his hand now pressing into your stomach.
“I’m almost there, baby. Hold it a little longer.” His face fell into your neck and you could feel his cock twitch inside you while his hot breath licked down your shoulder. “Don’t you fucking cum until I say so.”
“I don’t know if I-“
“Yes, you can!” Steve pushed you until you fell onto all fours again and then guided your hips to meet his hard strokes. His movements became frantic and fast, making you lose your mind.
“I’m gonna fill you to the brim, Bambi. Make you drip with my cum for days. You’re mine.”
“Steve! Steve!” You couldn’t hold it any longer, it was too much. He was so big, and his movements so fast, there was no way you were lasting any longer.
“Wait. Almost there.”
“I can’t. I can’t! I’m- Oh my god!”
“Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuuuuuuuuck.” With one last hard slam, Steve shot his hot seed in your pussy. Your walls clenched with every lewd sound he pushed through his heavy breaths. “Cumming so much for you, Bambi. All for you. Uhnggghh.” He rutted into you a couple more times and once the intense feeling faded into lazy pulses, he fell forward and pulled you into his chest.
Still buried deep within you, Steve pulled the covers over your bodies. Every little movement made you squirm and your pussy clench down again, drawing small grunts from the man behind you.
“You did so good.” His hand stroked over your hair and his face nuzzled into your shoulder. “Now, rest. You deserve it.”
And with that, you let your body fall into its well-needed sleep - warm, content, and without a care for the morning.
❁ ❁ ❁
Steve woke up to the sound of his alarm. He smiled before he opened his eyes, his mind still reminiscing the night before. He felt warm and content at the thought of it. Your kiss was like nothing else.
He felt around his bed blindly after turning off the alarm only to be met by a cold mattress. Opening his eyes, he called out your name and sat up in bed. But when no answer sounded from his apartment, he got up and looked for you. After a few minutes of searching, he was sure you weren’t there. And it worried him. He had planned to order you breakfast. He wanted to talk about last night. He wanted to tell you how much it had meant to him.
A look at the clock on his wall made him frown. Maybe you’d gone home to change for work. He decided to wait and get to work a little later today. It would all resolve itself, Steve was sure.
But when seven rolled around, there was no sign of you. And even after another 25 minutes, there was no indication you’d show up soon. Steve really couldn’t push his time anymore. There was a lot of work waiting for him at the office. So he got up and grabbed his briefcase, only to be interrupted by his phone.
“Good morning, Sharon.”
“Good morning, Mr. Rogers. I’m just calling to let you know your maid just called in sick.”
“What? Until when?”
“She didn’t say. But she’ll call when she is better.”
“Do you know what she has?”
“I believe that’s private. Mr. Rogers.”
Steve just hummed absentmindedly. His brain already playing all the possibilities in his head.
“Would you be so kind so send me her number?” He asked almost hesitantly, but still demanding enough for Sharon to agree right away.
“Of course, one second.” And then his phone pinged with a message from his assistant.
“Thank you.” Sharon just hummed in response and then she hung up the phone, ever the busy assistant he knew her as.
Steve didn’t hesitate to call you right away. With every peep. His heart hammered faster in his chest. And when he was about to give up, a familiar rustling rang through his speaker.
“Hello?”
Steve took a second to breathe and then he said your name - steady but careful.
“Mr Rogers,” you sounded surprised, and Steve tried to suppress the sting in his heart at the sound of his last name. You had called him Steve just last night. Why’d you stop?
“Yes... I heard you’re sick. Do you need anything?” He cringed the second he said it. You obviously didn’t want anything from him given that you had fled from his apartment before he even woke up this morning.
“No, no. I’m good thank you.” There was an awkward tension in the static connecting the two of you. But Steve didn’t understand where it came from. Had you not enjoyed last night. Had he only imagined the affection you gifted him then?
“Well... I hope you are able to come back soon.”
You huffed into the phone. “Uh, yes. Okay.”
“Alright, then. I’ll see you.”
“I’ll see you.”
And then the line went dead. And Steve couldn’t shake the feeling that you had sounded a lot colder than before...
❁ ❁ ❁
Steve had taken the next day off. His mind was too occupied to work, anyway. He had caught himself glimpsing at his video feed several times that day, even though he knew you weren’t going to show. He guessed, somehow that you would appear anyway. It didn’t happen of course.
So today, Steve had to learn to do nothing. That included not thinking of you as well. Because as much as the thought of you distracted him from work, not working wasn’t exactly the best move to get rid of his thoughts.
First, he had tried to stay in bed until 6. That was hard enough. Then, he worked out a bit, read an article, made a smoothie - okay he ordered one - and then he sat on his sofa watching as the clock above his fireplace ticked to 7 a.m.
It was ridiculous. If every hour would pass this slowly, he’d go insane.
His fingers taped on his thigh as he watched the seconds hand tick. He had to do something, anything.
The moment this thought passed his mind, he heard the elevator door ‘ding’ at his level. And before he could even turn around, your bag hit the ground with a loud thud.
Steve stood up straighter, adjusting a tie he was not wearing, but the motion had become a habit. He was excited you’d shown up - visibly well and healthy that was.
You stared at him for a solid minute and neither of you said a word. Your stare was unintelligible to Steve. He had to admit, that he didn’t know you well enough to read into your silent conversation yet, but he wanted to - he wanted to so badly.
His hands moved to clasp in front of him and then he cleared his throat, but as he was about to say something, you moved past him, straight to the supply closet, and then disappeared into his guest bedroom.
He followed you before he could tell his feet to stop, halting in the doorway of the room and watching as you dusted off the tall shelves above the sideboard.
“What are you doing?” His voice was higher than he anticipated.
“I’m working,” you answered bluntly, moving to the next object to dust off.
“Why?” Steve had promised to provide for you just the other night. And, yes, while he might have been hazy from the incredible pleasure you had created, he had meant every word.
You suddenly turned to him with an angry stare. “I’m working because, unlike other people, I can’t just do whatever I want and not deal with the consequences,” you spat and then turned around again. The dusting motion turned a little more aggressive and Steve felt a cold shiver run down his back. Feisty.
Though, Steve couldn’t quite place your anger. Had he said something to offend you? How did the other night play into any consequences and why the hell were you working still? You’d said it yourself, you wanted to be his. And that was all he ever wanted. It just didn’t make sense.
Steve didn’t move. He just stood there like an idiot and watched you work your anger away on the poor dusty decorations of his home. You obviously didn't want to talk to him and he had no idea what to say to you. So he just watched... and watched until at least ten minutes had gone by.
You were at a completely different corner of the room by now, trying to grab a book to dust off, but couldn’t quite reach. Steve had been standing in the doorway this whole time so he just assumed he was blocking your way to a ladder. But he took it as an opportunity instead.
In three Long strides, he had walked up to you, reached for the item you stretched toward, and handed it to you. And for a second there, he could see those doe eyes return to your face, staring up at him.
Maybe he had misread the situation after all because your gaze drew him in again. He slowly closed his eyes before he could reach your lips, excitement rising in his veins when he thought back to the feeling of your lips on his–
*smack*
His eyes shot open when your hand collided with his cheek, a fire flickering in your eyes that made him take a step back, holding his heated skin.
“You don’t have to mock me, okay?! I know it’s embarrassing and it’s stupid what we did, so please don’t make this more difficult.”
“What?” Steve was baffled, hurt.
It was stupid what we did. Your words echoed in his mind until your voice penetrated the mantra.
“Just leave me alone. Don’t you have work to do?”
He shook his head with an aching heart. You really had no idea. You thought he had used you, made you a bed bunny like Tony or Bucky would - he’d never do that. “I called in sick. I was so... forget it.”
You resumed cleaning and Steve just stood in your way watching. His chest stung with every second he spent with his eyes glued to you, knowing what you thought of him. He couldn’t stand it. He never wanted to make you uncomfortable, much less convey he’d only use you.
“Can I ask you a question?” You ignored him, but he could see your movements stagger for a second. “Do you really regret what we did?”
Then you paused, your eyes trained to the surface in front of you. When you finally looked at him, Steve could see the tears shimmering in them.
“No,” you whispered softly, Steve had almost missed it had his heart not skipped a beat.
He instinctively stepped closer to you again, though cautious not to scare you away. He’d come this far and didn’t want to mess it all up again. “Then why are you ignoring me?”
“I'm not ignoring you.” It shot out of you like a bullet. You sighed, took another breath, and set the duster down. “We don’t know each other. We live in completely different worlds. There is not one scenario in which we could exist together as anything more than... this. I know that now.”
“Why not?”
“Because you’re you and I’m just the maid.” You gestured to Steve and then yourself and Steve hated the way you degraded yourself just because he had a couple dollars more in his bank account. It wasn’t right.
He shook his head, his hand reaching out to you but dropping just before he could actually touch you, curbing into a soft fist instead. “And what if I told you that you are much more to me than that?” Now he finally dared to lay his hand on your cheek, tilting your head so he could come closer to you and still stare into your eyes. “I like you. And the night– ever since you came into my life, my days seem just a little less dull.”
He smiled with shiny eyes, afraid your silence would last forever. “Please say something, Bambi.”
“You like me?” There was awe and disbelief in your voice and Steve wanted to kiss it away until every last doubt was erased from your mind. Whoever had made you this insecure about affection would eat his fist.
Steve bit his lip to hide the chuckle threatening to spill. “I do.”
He slowly got lost in your eyes again. Those beautiful innocent orbs looked at him like he was a different type of special. He loved it so much.
His gaze dropped to your lips, slightly parted and full, and then back up. And before he could lose himself in them again, your hands latched onto his collar and pulled him down toward you.
The kiss was all tongue and teeth, need and desperation melting into sighs and tingles - he could feed off of it forever. His hands roamed your body and pressed you deeper into his. Your arms reached around his neck as your noses bumped against each other in eager anticipation.
Nothing ever felt this right. Steve couldn’t possibly believe you’d doubted the chemistry for a second. Not when it felt like that. But he wouldn’t need to think back on it anymore now... now that he finally had you.
I couldn't decide which GIF to use, so here are some extras!

Hey! Is anyone still interested in this idea cause it’s been sitting half written in my drafts since last February but it’s officially Evermore season again and I kinda wanna finish and post it!
If I casually wrote a two part Jake Seresin x Reader fic inspired by Tis the Damn Season x Dorothea by Taylor Swift, where it’s childhood friends/lovers who haven’t seen each other in years, and then they both find each other again by going to their small Texas hometown for Christmas, would anyone read it? Pls let me know!

You stand with your hand on my waistline
It's a scene, and we're out here in plain sight
I can hear them whisper as we pass by
It's a bad sign, bad sign
Jake's always had impeccable timing.
He'd tell you, later, that he sensed it. Just knew. Felt it in his gut, some sort of warning from the universe. He had to get to you.
The Admiral has you half bent over the desk in his office, fingers twisted into your underwear. He's trying to pull them down your legs when the door swings open.
You're paralysed, frozen with fear. The look on your face must tell Jake enough. He gets the message, understands your silent communication.
The Admiral stops. Backs away. As if putting distance between you will erase what he's been caught doing. Trying to do.
You expect Jake to yell, fight, throw The Admiral across the room by his collar. You expect blood, bruises, broken skin and bared teeth.
All you're met with is silence.
Jake strides across the room towards you. Fixes your clothes, smooths down your hair. Wipes the tears from your cheeks. He snakes a hand around your waist and guides you out of the door. Not a word said.
Something happens when everybody finds out
See the vultures circling, dark clouds
Love's a fragile little flame, it could burn out
It could burn out
"He'll ruin my career."
You're tucked into Jake's lap, legs slung over his hips as he holds you close. His rough fingertips run themselves up and down your spine, comforting and gentle. You inhale his musk, letting the familiarity fill your lungs.
"You didn't do anything wrong, baby."
"That won't matter."
The two of you are whispering, hushed voices bouncing off the furniture. You're alone together in Jake's living room. There's no one else around. You think he's scared he'll spook you. You're right.
"I worked so hard for this, Jake. I sacrificed everything to get into Top Gun."
"I know, baby."
"I can't lose it all."
He presses a tender kiss to your forehead, brushing your hair back from your eyes.
"What do you want to do? Report him?"
"Jake, you're not listening to me. He'll ruin my career."
"But he's the guilty one. Not you."
"Yeah, well. This is the way it works. Men can assault you and still play the victim."
You're frustrated, now. There's something bubbling, running through your veins. You can't put your finger on it. It feels like more than rage. Whatever it is, it's lethal.
You climb off Jake's lap and stand, pacing across the carpet.
"What am I supposed to do?" you murmur, tears threatening to spill.
Jake can't stand the wobble in your voice. It tightens something in his chest, pulls at his heartstrings. He was furious, before. He's just sad now.
"I'll do anything you ask," he tells you, standing up to cradle your face in his hands. "Anything in the world."
"I know."
And you do. That's what it's like, being with Jake. He loves so entirely, with his whole being. Every fibre of his heart belongs to you. It beats to the rhythm of your name.
"Just tell me what you wanna do, baby. I'm on your side. No matter what."
You lean up to kiss him, his lips soft and careful against yours.
"I'm not sure, yet. When I know, you'll know."
Jake sits back down on the couch, pulling you with him. You tuck yourself into his side, fitting there perfectly. He slings an arm around your waist and keeps you close, holding you a little tighter than usual.
Cause they got the cages, they got the boxes
And guns
They are the hunters, we are the foxes
And we run
"We should kill him."
You're strewn across Jake's chest, tangled in the sheets. Your limbs and hearts are intertwined, bodies drenched in sweat and lungs heaving.
"What?"
You sit up, pulling the comforter up and over your body slightly to combat the chill of the ocean breeze that's filtering through the open window.
"Let's kill him."
You look over to your boyfriend, waiting for the punchline. It never comes.
"Jake."
He turns to you, the most serious you've ever seen him. There's a look in his eye you've never seen before. It's dark. You're vaguely aware you should probably feel fear - but all you feel is anticipation.
"How many girls do you think he's done this to before you? How many will come after?"
You swallow, biting at your lips.
"He needs to be stopped, baby. You and I both know they won't fire him. He needs to be taken out of the equation altogether."
You realise, suddenly, that the thing you're worried about isn't the morality of the situation. It's the logistics. You don't want to get caught.
"Do you think we're smart enough to get away with murder?"
"Baby," he drawls, brushing his knuckles over your cheekbone. "We're a hell of a lot smarter than people give us credit for."
You know he's right. People underestimate both you and Jake. Everyone assumes he's nothing but a pretty face and toned muscles. That you're just his pilot girlfriend, seduced by his Southern charm and the fact that he's good in bed.
It seems like a challenge, now. You want to do this. You want to see if you can get away with it. You're already on the precipice of losing everything - why not go out with a bang?
"How would we do it?" you ask, leaning in closer to the blonde man next to you.
He thinks for a moment, running his fingers up and down your bare thighs.
"I say we make it look like a suicide. Shoot him in the head and frame it so it looks self inflicted."
You nod, processing.
"I think we should hold him at gunpoint first. Get him to write a confession, some sort of letter. That way, there's no confusion as to what happened."
"You're a genius," Jake grins, dipping down to kiss you.
He slips his tongue into your mouth effortlessly, sighing when he tastes himself from earlier. You straddle his waist and tangle your fingers into his hair, desperate to be close to him.
Both of you are high on adrenaline, buzzed on the anticipation of what's to come.
Baby, I know places we won't be found and
They'll be chasing their tails trying to track us down
'Cause I, I know places we can hide
I know places
I know places
Murder isn't as hard as you thought it'd be.
Careful planning. Airtight alibis. Reassurance and recon.
You and Jake have created the perfect crime.
The two of you show up to The Admiral's office on an evening you know he'll be working late. He's doing paperwork when you arrive.
You walk in first. Jake follows, and locks the door behind him.
The Admiral goes to speak, but you silence him with a handgun pointed at his chest.
"Speak, and you die."
He doesn't say another word.
Jake takes the gun from your hand and walks around the desk, pressing it into his superiors temple.
"We need a couple of things from you," he begins. "Just a favour or two."
The Admiral is sweating, pale and rigid. He looks scared. It sends a rush of adrenaline through you. You're enjoying this. Jake is too, judging by the beaming grin on his face.
"Grab a pen, and some paper. We're about to do some creative writing."
Jake orchestrates the letter. Gets him to write exactly what you need. Notes down the brutality, the arrogance, the abuse of power. He makes him recount every incident, not just yours. You're there for what feels like hours, as his shaky hands move the pen across the paper.
Finally, he finishes. Dots the I's and crosses the T's. Jake chuckles.
"Wonderful. And for the last part of this joyous evening were having together, my girlfriend is gonna shoot you."
The Admiral chokes on his breath. Looks to you with fear in his eyes. Finally, you think. He understands how it felt.
He goes to open his mouth, but you stop him.
"Don't beg. Don't plead. It's pathetic."
"We made up our mind weeks ago," Jake adds. "You're not going to deter us now."
You smile at your boyfriend, giddy over the way he's protecting you, saving you, loving you.
"I'm going to enjoy this," you whisper.
You take the gun from Jake and press it to The Admiral's temple. You know the silencer will muffle the noise - you really have thought of everything.
You click off the safety, and lean down so your mouth is next to his ear.
"This is for all of the women you hurt."
You pull the trigger.
He dies instantly.
Lights flash and we'll run for the fences
Let them say what they want, we won't hear it
Loose lips sink ships all the damn time
Not this time
In another life, you and Jake could have been actors.
You're all called into the briefing room the next day, gathered together in confusion.
Admiral Simpson stands in front of your class - pale as a sheet, dark circles bruised under his eyes.
"There's been a situation, and we want you to hear it from us," he begins. "I ask that you all keep this to yourselves, where possible. Don't talk to any media, don't gossip, don't spread rumours. Understood?"
When you all nod, he continues.
"The Admiral is dead."
The room goes silent. Jake's hand finds yours under the table. To anyone on the outside, it looks like a boyfriend supporting his girlfriend. To you, it's something different.
It feels like time stands still. The world stops turning, suspending you in the present moment. Eventually, Rooster speaks.
"What happened?"
Beau clears his throat, swiping his hand over his face.
"He took his own life."
There are whispers now, hushed and clipped. Everyone is in a state of shock and confusion. Everyone, except for you and the blonde man next to you. He squeezes your hand tightly, refusing to let go.
"Of course, there will be an investigation. But, it seems pretty obvious to us what happened. If anyone in this room has been effected by the actions of The Admiral that have come to light... please, speak to me, or any other of your superiors. Thank you. "
He exits the room, leaving all of you in palpable silence.
"What the fuck?" Payback mutters. "What did he mean, 'actions that have come to light?'"
"There's rumours," Phoenix begins. "He had a... soft spot, for young female pilots. People have been whispering about it for months."
Suddenly, all eyes are on you. You're the only other woman in the room besides Natasha, and she clearly wasn't involved.
"Did he ever... try anything with you, Ivy?"
"No," you're quick to answer. "No. Thank God."
The room breathes a collective sigh of relief.
If only they knew.
they take their shots, but we're bulletproof I know places
and you know for me, it's always you I know places
in the dead of night, your eyes so green I know places
and I know for you, it's always me I know places
A month later, you snap.
Jake comes home to find you frantically shoving clothes into a duffel bag, sweat dripping down your back.
"Baby," he tries, cautious, like he's approaching a spooked animal. "Baby."
You turn to face him with wild eyes, fear radiating off you.
"What's wrong, angel?"
You look at him incredulously.
"What's wrong? What's fucking wrong? We killed someone, Jake! That's what's wrong!"
"He wasn't a good guy."
"That doesn't matter. That doesn't make it right."
He cradles your face in his hands, eyes never leaving yours.
"Talk to me. What's going on? You've been okay. We've been okay. I thought we were processing, moving forward."
"I was. And then today, I just... can't. It was murder, Jake. Premeditated murder."
"Listen to me," he demands, tilting your chin up so your eyes are level. "He was an awful, awful man. The world is a better place without him. We saved so many women from a horrible fate, baby. We did a good thing."
You inhale carefully, and exhale a shaky breath, leaning up to press a kiss to his bitten lips.
"Yeah?" you ask, unsure. "We did save people, didn't we?"
"We wouldn't have done it without just reason, baby. We're good people, you and I. We both know we are."
You nod, looking for any signs of insecurity in his eyes. You don't find a single speck.
"You're right. Fuck, you're right. Sorry if I scared you, Jake."
"You scared me because I thought you were leaving me," he chuckles. "Wondered what I did wrong."
"Nothing," you're quick to reassure, tangling tracing your fingertips over the features of his face in a featherlight touch. "My God, Jake. I've never loved anyone as much as I love you. You're it for me. You're my forever."
Jake leans down, pressing his lips to yours firmly and surely. It's as if he's telling you everything he feels without using any words. He pulls you into him, winding his arms around your back and tugging you closer.
"I've got you, baby. No matter what happens. It's me and you, always. I love you."
"I love you too, Seresin. Always."
They are the hunters, we are the foxes
And we run
Just grab my hand and don't ever drop it
My love
"Let's run away."
You're taking off your shoes by the door when Jake comes bounding down the stairs, buzzing with energy.
"Hmm?"
"Let's run away, baby. You and me. The open road. We can go anywhere we want."
"Jake," you laugh. "Are you drunk? What's happening?"
"Not drunk. My head's clearer than it has ever been. I've been thinking, while you were gone."
"Thinking about...?" you ask, wrapping your arms around his neck and leaning up to kiss his rosy lips.
"Getting out of here. This place is full of bad memories and old ghosts. We can start afresh somewhere new."
"Like where?"
"Anywhere. Literally anywhere. We don't even have to stay in America. We could go to Europe, Australia, Canada? The possibilities are actually endless."
"What's triggered this?" you murmur. "You okay?"
"I'm always okay when I'm with you," he smiles. "But.... I can just feel it, you know? I can feel everything piling up. There's a weight on my shoulders, and on yours too. We can let that go. I know we can."
"You're right, about the weight. I haven't relaxed in months."
Jake slides his hands under your shirt, tracing his fingers up and down the bare skin of your back.
"I know," he murmurs against your lips. "I think there's something better out there for us."
"Where would we go? Like, serious talk, what are our options?"
"I know places," he winks.
"What places, Jake?" you try to chide, but you're smiling.
"We can go to my mom's, first, in Texas. Just to touch base. From there, I mean it when I say literally anywhere, baby. Wherever you wanna go, we can go. You've always wanted to go to Italy, right? We could go there. Or I have a high school friend in Perth - we could go there."
"I wanna go somewhere with good food. Kind people. Beautiful views. A little sunshine wouldn't hurt either."
He's grinning at you, white and blinding. His excitement is contagious, settling into your bones.
"Imagine it, baby. Me and you, on the beach all day. We could surf, swim, go grab some lunch, then surf and swim some more. Go home, make dinner, sit out in the yard and listen to the ocean waves. Do it all again the next day."
You can't wipe the smile off your face, practically bouncing on the soles of your feet.
"Okay."
Jake stops in his tracks, still and rigid.
"Really?"
"Really. We can go right now, Jake. I don't wanna be here any longer."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. Fuck, I love you. Let's pack our shit and go, baby."
Jake kisses you with fervour, dipping you backwards like you're in a movie. You squeal, gripping the nape of his neck for balance. He picks you up and spins you around, twirling you like a fairytale.
"What about everyone here?" you ask, forehead pressed to Jake's.
"We'll miss them, and they'll miss us, but we'll all be okay."
He's right. These people are your family, but they'll understand. You have to do what's best for you.
"Do you really wanna go as soon as we can?"
"Yeah, Jake. I meant it. We can start packing right now."
He wraps his arms around your middle and carries you upstairs, throwing the closet doors open while you grab your suitcase.
Baby, I know places we won't be found and
They'll be chasing their tails trying to track us down
'Cause I, I know places we can hide
I know places
The sun beats down on your skin, warming you up from the outside in. There's a breeze whipping through your hair, carrying salt from the ocean into the car. The sunroof is down, allowing you to breathe in the fresh air.
Jake's hand slides across the centre console and onto your thigh, thumb rubbing circles into your bare skin.
"You okay?"
He's looking over at you, taking his eyes off the road for a split second.
"I'm good, baby."
He smiles, the grin reaching every feature of his face, lighting him up.
You've been on the road for months, stopping and starting however and whenever you please. A motel here, a beach apartment there. You've lost count of how many states you've travelled through, collecting postcards in each one.
You'll settle down, eventually. You've been making a list of your favourite places you've visited, ranking them as you go. You'll most likely buy a place in your top choice. But not yet.
For now, you're content with the open road. The convertible car, all your belongings in a suitcase in the trunk, roof down at every opportunity. You like not staying in one place for too long. It weirdly suits you.
Jake's never looked happier. He glows, smile lines creasing the corner of his eyes. He laughs so often, and you never get tired of the sound.
You glance down to the golden band on your left hand, smiling softly.
"What are you thinking about?" your husband asks, squeezing your thigh.
"Vegas," you beam. "Never did I think I'd be married by an Elvis impersonator in a bright blue chapel."
"I'm the epitome of class, baby. You know this."
Both of you are grinning, chuckling gently.
"We did the right thing. Leaving."
"Yeah, we did. I'm glad I believed what you said."
"What did I say?"
"That you knew places."
He traces a love heart on your skin with his thumb, over and over again.
"Told you, baby. I know places."

the time where your brother introduces you to his friends…
The noise coming from the beachfront bar makes you pause as you follow behind your twin brother. Your hand reaches up unconsciously to grab at the back of Robert's uniform, tugging just hard enough to make your brother pause and turn around to see your eyes shooting from side to side, one of your clear tells when you're nervous.
"You're ok, y/n/n," Robert says gently, bringing his hands up to rest on your shoulder's, knowing from experience that the weight of it brings you comfort when you start to get anxious.
"I...I d....don't think I w...want to g...go in there, Robbie," you say, tripping over your words as your breathing starts to get heavy.
"It's gonna be okay, y/n/n, you're gonna be just fine," Robert says again, pulling you into a tight hug in which you manage to get your breathing under control, "it's just gonna be Nat and some of my squad, we'll have our own table and you don't have to talk to anyone else for the entire night if you want."
Robert can see the exact moment when you make the decision to come into the bar, the spark of curiosity lighting in your eyes at the mention of your brother's co-pilot. You had met Natasha "Phoenix" Trace shortly after your brother's squadron had been permanently assigned to the San Diego base, where you had been working as a kindergarten teacher for the on-base school for the past two years. Being so close to your brother again has been so fun, with the two of you hanging out in every spare moment you had.
The two of you had grown up very close, with Robert being the protective older brother (by three minutes, you had always been quick to whisper sarcastically under your breath whenever he had tried to pull rank) to your quiet, unconfrontational manner.
"Are you ready to go in, or do you need a minute?" Robert asks, hand coming up to rest on the top of your head.
"I...I'm ready," you say, reaching out to tug on your brother's arm and follow after him as he puts his arm around your shoulders and steers you toward the entrance to the bar, under the shining sign reading THE HARD DECK.
Immediately, the noise of the bar makes you flinch and Robert's arm around your shoulders squeezes slightly, and you turn to look at him, finding him already looking at you, asking you if you're okay with his eyes.
You nod at him and tap on his hand, which he lets fall off of your shoulder as he nods towards a booth near the back of the bar, situated right by a pool table. You drop slightly behind him as you follow, preferring to take in your new surroundings from your slightly hidden vantage point behind your brother.
"Bob!" A voice calls from the direction of the table, and you peek slightly around your brother's shoulder to watch as a tall blonde man with the most beautiful smile you've ever seen saunters up to Robert and swings an arm around his shoulders, pulling him forward into a light headlock. You watch, slightly frozen as your brother laughs and fake punches the new man in the stomach, causing him to release Robert, and take a step back, hands going to his hips, stance relaxed as he smiles.
You're so entranced with watching your brother and his pretty friend that you don't notice Natasha coming up on your right, holding a glass of sparkling water in one hand.
"Hey, Y/n," she says softly, just loud enough for you to hear, but not so loud as to startle you.
You turn to look at her, and the first real smile of the night graces your lips.
"Hi Nat," you say, voice quiet as she smiles. She gently holds out the glass of sparkling water to you.
"For you!"
You look down and take the drink from her, thanking her shyly as she smiles at you and tips her head towards the booth, inviting you to go sit with her.
You glance at your brother, finding him already watching you, the tiniest gleam of pride in his eyes as he nods encouragingly. You smile and as you’re turning back to Nat, your eyes meet those of the man who had greeted your brother. He’s looking at you, not staring so much as just observing, and you shiver a little under the the intensity of his green eyed gaze.
Taking a tiny leap of faith, that has your stomach whooshing from the unfamiliarity of it all, you shoot the stranger a shy smile, before quickly ducking your head and sitting down next to your friend.
Much later, you’ve loosened up enough to laugh a little with Nat, who has been sitting with you at the table since you’d arrived. You have even met some of your brothers other pilot friends, including the first guy who had approached the two of you. You’ve learned that his name was Jake, but everyone calls him Hangman. You haven’t had the courage to ask why they call him that, but you noticed your eyes straying to the tall blonde more times than you care to admit. He just has this aura around him that makes you gravitate towards him, although your anxiety won’t let you do more than watch from afar.
“Hey, I’m gonna run to the ladies room, are you good here for a bit?” Nat asks you, scooting out of the booth and standing, waiting near the head of the table. You smile, nodding as you wave her away, scooting out of the booth as well.
“Yeah, I’m gonna g…go get another drink, I think,” you say and Nat nods, before heading towards the back of the bar.
You watch her go for a second, then glance around to spot your brother in the middle of a game of pool with one of his friends, Coyote, you remember.
You steal yourself and then make your way through the crowded space, ducking between people until you stand at an open space at the bar.
You watch as the pretty bartender, smiles at the brown haired man she was talking to, who you remember is called Maverick, before making her way over to you.
“Hey, can I grab you a refill?” The woman asks, nodding to the empty glass in your hand.
“Um y…yes pl….please,” you say, stuttering through your words.
The woman’s smile puts you a little bit more at ease, as she asks what you’re drinking.
“Just sp…sparkling w….water.”
The woman nods at you and takes the cup from you. As she uses the soda spout to refill your glass, she introduces herself as Penny, the owner of the Hard Deck.
“We don’t usually get a lot of new customers this time of year,” she says, pushing the newly full glass back towards you, “are you new to town, or just passing through?”
Something about the way she seems so at ease puts you immediately at ease, and you only trip over your words once as you answer, voice getting a little stronger with each word.
“I live about t…ten minutes away, and my brother is in the Navy, he was just recently assigned here. I don’t usually go out by myself, but he asked me to meet some of his friends here tonight.”
“If you don’t mind my asking, who’s your brother?” Penny inquires.
“Um Robert Floyd? You’d probably know him as Bob.”
You wave a hand in the direction of your brother. Penny nods, turning back to you with a smile.
“Well you are always welcome at the Hard Deck! I didn’t catch your name, dear.”
You give your name, and Penny smiles at you once more, before heading off to help another customer.
You look down at your glass to hide the small smile that plays across your lips at the idea that you just met someone without the buffer of your brother.
You’re so caught up in your own head as you make your way back through the tables, you don’t notice the man until it’s too late.
A body slams into yours from the front, causing your water to splash over your hands and down your front as you stumble backwards. Just as you feel yourself falling, a warm presence appears at your back, steadying you with an arm around your shoulders as another pushes out in front of you. The tan hand shoves the man who had hit you, sending him away from you with such a force that he staggers before righting himself.
You look up at the person who saved you, only slightly surprised to see Jake already staring down at you, concern apparent in his gorgeous green eyes.
“What the fuck man?!” The man who had shoved you says loudly, causing you to jump slightly and subconsciously move in closer to Jake’s side.
“Watch where you’re going!” Jake’s voice holds the slightest hint of anger and you instinctively deflate a bit as you open your mouth to apologize.
“Not you, sweets,” Jake says, unknowingly making your heart flutter wildly in your chest at the name, “you did nothing wrong.”
Jake’s hand smooths over your shoulder, as he glares at the other man. The guy scoffs and looks around, as if making sure he doesn’t have an audience, before swinging his glare back to you and Jake.
“Um, I didn’t do anything wrong here! She was the one not looking where she was going!” He accuses, gesturing at you and making you shrink even further into Jake’s side, shame rising when you feel your eyes start to burn with tears.
“You’re gonna want to watch how you speak to her, jackass.”
Jake’s voice is so hard that the guy visibly blanches, and not so subtly takes a step back and away from the angry pilot at your side.
“Apologize to her for spilling her drink, and then fuck right off.” Jake commands, and the guy mutters the quietist apology you’ve ever heard and then disappears into the crowd.
Jake’s hand strokes over your shoulder one more time and then it’s gone. You turn to look up at the man who had come to your rescue, and Jake gently smiles down at you.
“You alright, y/n?” He asks, gaze sweeping quickly over the front of your dress, clearly soaked through from your spilled water, before flicking back up to your face.
“I….I’m o…okay,” you stutter, shame rising at the idea of this handsome man seeing you so humiliated, “th…thank y…you for rescuing m…me.”
“It’s no trouble, sweets,” Jake says easily, swinging his big green jacket off of his shoulders and draping it over your form.
“What do you need?” He asks, once you’ve settled into the material, hiding your soaked dress, noticing your eyes darting around quickly.
Jake’s niece is a shy little thing who has many of the same tendencies that Jake has recognized in you throughout the evening as he watched you sitting with Phoenix. He saw the way your natural tendency is to roll your shoulders forward slightly and curl in on yourself, your hair falling forward to hide that beautiful face from the world.
You stand staring at him in shock for a few seconds, before mentally shaking yourself.
“I’m o…okay, just maybe to sit back down,” you say, and Jake nods, guiding you back over to the booth.
“Wait right here, I’m gonna go grab you another soda water, and then we’ll just sit here until everyone’s ready to go, okay?” Jake asks as you sit down. You nod at him, playing with your fingers as you wait. Once you hear him walk away, you glance up and survey the bar, spotting Nat and your brother engaged in a pool game with Coyote and Rooster watching on.
You shuffle yourself a little deeper into Jake’s jacket, and close your eyes for a few moments, breathing deeply to let the shocking encounter roll off your shoulders.
“You doing okay, y/n/n?” Robert asks as he slides into the booth next to you. You smile up at him, letting your head fall on his shoulder as his arm comes up to rest over your shoulders.
“Yeah, I’m good.” You feel your lips pull up into a smile as you watch Jake lean against the bar and chat with Penny and Maverick, while Penny pours another sparkling water.
“Good.” Your brother is smiling at you when you turn your head to look at him. You grin back, and then let your head drop back onto his shoulder, waiting for Jake to come back with your drink and letting yourself relax into the evening. You might have been anxious going into this evening, but you feel perfectly at ease right now, with your brothers arm around your shoulders and your new (and ridiculously handsome) friend sinking down into the other side of the booth and sliding a fresh glass across the table to you, eyes bright as he settles into a comfortable conversation with your brother.

the time where someone makes the mistake of cutting in front of jake’s girlfriend in line…
The sun is glistening brightly over the ocean as you sit back against your boyfriend’s chest, a soft beach towel beneath you and a book in hand.
The waves lapping against the sand, and the familiar feel of Jake’s fingers combing through your hair lull you comfortably towards sleep, and you close your book, setting it beside you on the towel as you lay your head back against Jake’s shoulder. You eyes are closed as you feel your boyfriend’s arm come up to drape across your chest, caging you into his embrace.
“What are you doing, sweets?” Jake’s voice brings you back from the edge of sleep, his lips brushing across your forehead as his arm across your chest squeezes gently, his fingers drawing small nonsensical patterns on you collar bone.
“Just taking in the moment,” you sigh, shifting to meet his eyes, head still resting on his shoulder. His green eyes gleam with mischief as he meets your gaze.
“But I want to know who she picks,” he says, gesturing to the novel you had put down.
Embarrassment flushes through you as you think about the romance book you had been reading, with its drama filled love triangle.
“Y…you were r…reading it?” You ask, tripping over a few of your words, face burning as you turned your head back to the ocean, away from Jake.
“Hey,” Jake drops his face to your neck, nuzzling you and pressing kisses to the sensitive skin there, “don’t be embarrassed. It was quite an interesting story.”
“Y…you really think so?”
“Of course, y/n/n! I like everything you read.”
“O…okay,” you smile, getting distracted by the attention your boyfriend is lavishing on your neck. You squirm in his grasp as he blows into your neck, causing the two of you to start laughing, as you shake him off and then immediately curl back into his chest, yawning as you snuggle into him.
“What do you wanna do for the afternoon then, Sweets?” Jake asks, fingers going back to trace across your collarbone.
“I don’t know, but I know I’m going to need a coffee for it if it involves being awake,” you say, the heat of the day and the general sense of comfort you feel around your boyfriend contributing to your sleepiness.
“Alright then, baby, let’s get you caffeinated!” Jake says, putting your book into the tote bag lying next to him, before helping you up and shaking out your towel, “Call me selfish, but I’m definitely gonna be wanting your sweet company for a lot longer today.”
You giggle as you hold the bag open for him to deposit the now folded towel in, grinning as Jake uses the opportunity to brush a kiss over your nose. He grins back at you, taking the tote from your hands and slinging it over his shoulder, crooking his elbow so that you can hold his arm.
You snuggle in as close to his side as possible while walking, letting him lead you toward the beaches parking lot and his truck.
You climb into the passenger side after Jake opens the door for you, settling into the well worn leather seat, as your boyfriend starts the engine, pulling out of the beachside parking lot, through a neighborhood, and onto the little high street of your seaside town.
A few minutes later, you’re standing in line outside your favorite coffee truck. Jake has run to the restroom in the shop across the street, leaving you to keep your place in the line, which due to the popularity of the truck, wraps quite far down the sidewalk. You are standing quietly, content to just observe the going’s on of the little high street, when you feel more than see a body push in front of you in line, knocking you back and off balance. You stumble, bumping into the woman behind you, who kindly steadies you, smiling as you stutter out an apology, face flushing in embarrassment.
“No worries, my dear, it wasn’t your fault,” she says, shooting a dirty look over your shoulder at the line cutter, before smiling at you once more and going back to reading the magazine she’s holding.
You turn back to face the man now standing in front of you, as if he’d been waiting in line like the rest of you. You start to think about just letting him stay in the line in front of you, before thinking fuck it and clearing your throat loudly.
The stranger turns around, and the look in his eyes makes you wish you had just let him cut the line. But you’ve come this far and you can hear your brother’s voice in your head telling you to stand up for yourself and not let anyone push you around, so you lift your chin, and ball your hands to stop them from shaking.
“Yes?” The stranger grunts, glowering at you as if you were the one in the wrong.
“Y..you just c..cut in the line. It actually starts b..back there,” you say, pointing down the sidewalk to where the last person in line is standing. You’re trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, wanting to believe that he had just accidentally just into the line.
The guy just stares at you for a long moment, and you grow more and more uncomfortable by the second. You eventually drop your arm, and wait for him to step back out of the line.
“I…i…i…is it r…r…really,” he scoffs, exaggerating the stutter he puts on as he takes a step closer to you, staring down at you with a mena glint in his eye. “What are you going to do about it, huh?”
Your stomach drops as he crowds you, eyes welling with unwanted tears, which you try furiously to not let escape. You take a deep breath, something which he notices and smirks at, eyes portraying that he’s fully confident in his victory.
Just as you open your mouth to say something, you feel a familiar presence at you back, as your boyfriend slings an arm around your chest, pulling you back into his.
“Here’s what you’re gonna do, buddy,” Jake’s voice is all authority, as he stares down the other man, while simultaneously providing you comfort by letting his fingers stroke over your shoulder as his arm across your chest acts as a protective, comforting barrier, “you’re gonna back the fuck off from my girl, you’re gonna apologize, and then you’re gonna march yourself right to the back of the line and wait, just like everyone else is.
The two men seem locked in a stare down for a few tense moments, as your hands come up to grip Jake’s forearm. The line cutter holds strong for a solid five seconds longer before blinking and taking a step back.
“Fine, whatever.” You and Jake watch him as he walks away, not even in the direction of the end of the line.
You feel Jake’s arm tighten briefly across your front, before it fell away, one hand gripping your hand, spinning you around and into his arms. You hands land on his chest, and you stare up at him, struck breathless from the clear adoration in your boyfriends eyes.
“You okay, Sweets?” He asks, on hand coming up to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear.
“Yeah,” you sigh, and he searches your eyes for a few moments, no doubt making ure you were being truthful, before dropping his head to brush his lips against yours.
“Well aren’t you two just the sweetest.”
You pull away from Jake and look towards the voice, seeing the woman who you’d stumbled into. She was smiling, the skin around her eyes crinkling as she does. You smile back, slightly apologetically.
“I’m sorry again for knocking into you,” you say, still feeling guilty despite knowing that it hadn’t really been your fault. The woman waves you off.
“It’s no problem at all, dear,” she says, before glancing between you and Jake. Jake nods at her, silently thanking her for helping you out. She smiles back, eyes glazing over for a second.
“You two have a beautiful day, alright,” she says, before gesturing to the coffee truck’s open window, which you hadn’t even realized had gotten closer, till you were the next people in line.
“You too, Ma’am,” Jake says, hooking an arm around your waist, “now, let’s get you caffeinated, baby.”

the time where someone makes the mistake of hitting on Jake in front of his girl…
🎶Slow Ride. Take it Easy🎶
You laugh, bright and open as you and Jake walk in to THE HARD DECK to the first strains of “Slow Ride” coming from the jukebox in the corner. When you look over towards the music corner, you laugh even harder as you spot your brother and Rooster grinning back at you, and the man next to you.
“Of course, it was them,” Jake laughs, and guides you towards the group of pilots who had quickly become your friends after Bob introduced you that first night at the Hard Deck.
When you reach the table, you sit next to Phoenix and Jake scoots in after you.
“How has everyone been?” You asks, shifting into Jake’s side as his arm takes up its usual spot around your shoulders. Your brother scoots into the booth across from you, and pushes your favorite drink towards you.
“Thanks Robbie,” you smile, raising the drink to your lips and taking a sip.
Much later, you and Natasha are coming back from the bathroom together, where you both had been freshening up after an intense match of darts between Jake and Bradley had left you both crying with laughter, which subsequently caused your mascara to run.
“Omg, look y/n/n,” Nat says, pointing towards the bar, where a fake busty blonde is currently trying to shove her boobs into your boyfriends face.
“Not again,” you complain, which causes Nat to laugh and loop her arm through yours, as you make your way through the throngs of bar patrons to your table. You keep you eyes on the blonde currently chatting up your Jake, although he remains completely un-responsive to her advances.
It’s only when she starts to brush her hand along Jake’s arm, and leans in the closest she’s ever attempted that you and Nat both stand up, and Natasha looks to you for a moment.
“You want me to deal with her?” She asks, rolling her shoulders as if preparing to physically remove the woman from the bar. You love your friend for being so ready to come to your aid, but based on the fact that regardless of Jake’s repeated dismissal of the blonde, this is the third week in a row that she has tried, even you and your non confrontational nature are getting frustrated. Natasha and Bob have dealt with distracting the woman away from Jake every other time she has attempted to put the moves on, but this time, you shake your head at your friend and motion for her to sit down again.
“No, thank you Nat, but I think I’m going to go over there tonight,” you say, the two drinks you had had earlier giving you a courage you normally didn’t possess as you push your hair away from your face and turn to walk over to the blonde to hopefully, finally get this woman to back off from your man, leaving Nat cackling gleefully in your wake.
Meanwhile, Jake drums his fingers in a nonsensical pattern on the bar as he keeps his gaze firmly off of the woman on his right, currently crossing her arms under her breasts, so that her tiny top strains to keep her breasts in.
Penny smiles at him as she slides his beer over to him.
“There you are, soldier.” She says, and Jake laughs at her, shooting her his signature grin as he lifts the pint to his lips ad takes a swig.
“Thanks a million, Penny Pie,” Jake says, jokingly using the nickname that the squad had given Penny when she and Maverick had announced to them that they were getting married.
As Penny walks away, the blonde, Jake thinks her name was Jessica?, moves closer to Jake, brushing his arm with her chest and blinking her heavily lined eyes up at him.
“Oh, the bartenders taken, stud,” she says, in a tone which suggests she thinks that she is saving Jake from a horrible heartbreak. He shifts away from her again and is about to ask her to please leave him alone, when someone beats him to it.
“So is he.”
A grin immediately finds its way onto Jake’s face at the sound of your voice and he turns around, immediately spotting you a few feet away, arms crossed over your chest, eyes glaring at Jessica and an adorable pout on your lips.
“Hi, baby,” he says, opening his free arm for you. You move towards him and wrap your arms around his middle, leaning against him. You kept your glare on Jessica, as the blonde looked between you and Jake, mouth slightly agape.
“Really?” She asks, tone biting and frankly mean, “this is who a stud like you is with?”
Jake frowns, arm tightening around you, as he opens his mouth to defend you. But again, for the second time that night, you beat him to it.
“Yeah, I am,” you say, smiling at the blonde who glares back at you, “and I’m also the person who he’s going to continue to be with, so you might wanna step aside and take your desperate attempts elsewhere.”
You flick your hand at her, still riding the high of your drinks from earlier and then once she leaves, you turn your head you look up at your boyfriend. Jake is gazing down at you, the look in his eyes heated.
“Baby…” he trails off, hand coming up to brush across your cheek, “that was…”
You smile a little sheepishly up at him.
“A little out of character I know,” you say, feeling a little dramatic and self-conscious for what you just did.
“…extremely hot.” Jake finishes his sentence, grinning as he brings you in for a kiss.
“I love you, Jake,” you whisper against his lips.
“I love you too, baby.”

hey, sorry if this is a rude thing to ask but i was just reading your latest hangman fic — haven’t finished it yet so maybe i shouldn’t jump the gun — but is it super relevant that reader is bob’s twin? like can she just be a sibling (who could potentially even be adopted)? it’s not a big deal, i’m sure i’ll love the rest of the fic just as much as i did the start, just that as a bipoc it’s a bit difficult to imagine oneself as bob’s twin?
It’s totally ok! Reader can be read as a twin or as an adopted sibling! I’m sorry if it was insensitive to write her as a twin, it’s just that I myself am a twin, and this story is partially based on my dynamic with my twin bro. But she can totally be adopted (I actually have friends who call themselves twins cause they were adopted by the same family and are only a few days apart) in age) 😊😊

the time where your brother introduces you to his friends…

Pairing 🐾 Bucky Barnes x F!Reader Word Count 🐾 4.5k Warnings 🐾 pet names, tooth rotting fluff Rating 🐾 T Events ➷ 🐾 @allcapsbingo O2 (Alpine) | Bingo Masterlist 🐾 @buckybarnesevents Bucky's Birthday Bash Author's Note 🐾 I think this is the fluffiest thing I have ever written, and the visual of a certain scene seriously overwhelmed me with how fluffy it is. Make sure to book in with your dentist after this one, folks.
Happy Birthday to the character that changed my life 🥳🎉
“Don’t make a big deal,” Bucky said – “I have all I need right here,” he insisted.  A shame, really, that he had thought that you had listened, and you wouldn’t make a big deal of it; he was so wrong, and he would be better off for being so, for when a paw touched your heart, it would never leave.
Tumblr media
Bucky had made it expressly clear that his birthday was not a big deal, and it was to not be made into a ‘thing’. “‘M fine, doll. I have all I need right here,” he had said while holding you tightly.
Naturally, of course, you didn’t listen.
March rolled ‘round so fast it left you reeling. The days on the calendar steadily got crossed off until they reached the giant red circle around the big day, March 10th.
The morning air was crisp, and the yellow glow of the sun through the sheer drapes woke you from sleep, combined with the weight of Bucky’s arm draped over your hip–it wasn’t a surprise that you’d mistaken it for heaven.
Your plan was ninety-five percent set in stone, having called ahead the week before and yesterday, much to the amusement of the employees and volunteers you had spoken to – you were on a first name basis now, with all of them.
All that was needed for your plan to be one hundred percent certain, and ready to go?
Coffee. It was some damn good coffee.
“No,” Bucky’s muffled voice came from the crook of your neck when you moved, and you smiled. Testing the waters, you shifted again, only slightly. “I said no,” Bucky grumbled, his voice raspy with sleep. The arm resting over your hip moved to cradle just under your chest, the grip tight and firm. “Not gettin’ up.”
You shuffled and turned in his arms until you faced him, his arms still around you and holding you to his chest with no sign of relenting anytime soon. “Happy birthday, Buck,” you whispered, kissing him on the nose sweetly.
“Thank you, sweetheart,” Bucky murmured, pulling you impossibly closer. “Now lemme sleep.”
“C’mon.” Your hands pushed against his chest and he whined in protest. “You need to get up, babe.”
“Why?” Bucky cracked an eye open and stared at you suspiciously. “I told you this wasn’t a big deal.”
“I know,” you agreed, though you smiled innocently and widened your eyes so the sun’s rays would make them sparkle – Bucky could never resist that look, you knew. “But I didn’t listen.”
“Of course you didn’t listen,” Bucky sighed. You giggled and pushed back until he released you from his hold, and he rolled over onto his back with a groan. “Can I at least have some coffee before you spring anythin’ on me?”
“Sure, Sarge.” The bed sheets rustled as you moved to the edge of the bed. “We have a big day ahead of us, I don’t want you grumpy–well, grumpier than you usually are, for it.”
Bucky only grunted in response, and you chuckled.
The cup of hot coffee seemed to brighten Bucky up for your plan as you hoped, though the traces of frustration in his expression – the slight pout of his lips and the furrow of his brow when you consistently brushed off or denied his questions of just what the hell you had planned for the day, made you smirk cheekily. It was like dangling a prize just out of reach; a game that you were in the long haul for and wouldn’t ruin so soon, no matter how tempting his bribes were.
“You will just have to wait and see,” you said. Bucky huffed and rolled his eyes as he leant against the doorway, his arms crossed and lips still pouted in exaggerated defiance. You stared at him. “Don’t look at me like that.”
Bucky raised a brow, the beginnings of a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “Like what?”
“Like that,” you gestured to his face, then down to his chest that was straining against his Henley. “Don’t.”
“Oh, are you struggling, baby?” Bucky cooed and you glared at him. Bastard, you thought. “You wouldn’t struggle so much if you just told me, I’ll make it worth it, I promise.”
Oh, it was tempting.
“No,” you snapped, pointing a finger and jamming it into his chest–his much too toned and muscled chest that you wanted- “No, stop that, I know what you’re doing.”
“What am I doing, baby girl?” Bucky hummed and it was all you could do to not give in. You had to remain strong – his present counted on it! You groaned and stalked away to get dressed, leaving a laughing Bucky in your wake.
An hour later the two of you were dressed comfortably. Bucky wore a grey shirt and his favourite burgundy Henley, paired with jeans, the pair that fit his thighs so snuggly it was almost impossible to resist. A black baseball cap was pulled low over his eyes, mostly ‘to keep his unruly hair in check’, though you knew it was because he didn’t want to be seen – be recognised.
“Now,” you started and Bucky looked at you curiously. “I need you to either use this,” you held up an eye mask that was nondescript and soft, “or you need to keep your eyes closed. It’s your choice, babe, but I want this to be a surprise.”
“Kinky,” Bucky muttered and you laughed, shaking your head. “I’ll just keep my eyes closed, promise.”
Bucky’s car came to life with a loud purr and he tensed next to you. “I won’t hurt your baby,” you laughed and Bucky looked at you guiltily, a small smirk on his lips betraying his playful nature. “Here,” you said, grabbing his hand and placing it on your thigh. “Close your eyes for me–no funny business!” You shrieked when his hand moved higher and he laughed.
“Alright, alright.” Bucky’s hand moved closer to your knee and he closed his eyes as you put the car in gear. If Bucky’s grip tightened on the door handle, you ignored it.
The drive was only a short one, but your excitement to see his reaction made it stretch to be unbearable. Songs played over the radio while Bucky hummed along quietly and when you stopped at traffic lights, your hand found Bucky’s and you squeezed, making him smile softly.
“Almost there,” you said when a large park came into view. The energy that flooded you made you vibrate out of your skin with excitement, and Bucky picked up on it.
“Too much coffee, sweetheart,” Bucky chuckled, and you shushed him while you pulled into an empty park – right out front of the building, where a sign painted with big block letters loomed over the windshield of his car.
SHELTER.
You turned the ignition and the car shut off, the once loud purr now silent so you could hear distant barks of the dogs running amok in the park and being led amongst the alleys and buildings.
“Are… are those, dogs?” Bucky shifted, furrowing his brows in confusion. “What-”
“We’re here, babe,” you whispered, grabbing his hand and holding it. He squeezed yours once and his head turned towards you, eyes still closed. “Open your eyes for me.”
Icy blue irises met yours and the pupils were blown, quickly shrinking to be normal while he stared at you with narrowed eyes, his suspicions still not confirmed. “Why are there dogs? Where are we?”
“Look.” You pointed out the windshield towards the sign.
Time slowed to a stop as Bucky turned his head so his gaze could focus on the sign. His lips, once set in a slight frown of confusion, opened wide to let out a gasp of shock. The grip he had on your hand tightened as he leant forward in his seat to stare at the sign – looking for any sign of a ruse, or a trick.
“It’s real, Buck–baby, we’re here,” you rushed when he started to tremble slightly. The shock and joy overwhelmed him and rendered him speechless. “Breathe for me.”
Bucky slowly took deep, grounding breaths and you smiled when he looked back at you with unrestrained glee, his eyes bright with tears. “Y-You brought me here? Here?”
“I did,” you said softly and Bucky hiccuped. “I know you’ve been wanting a pet of your own after your therapist suggested it–truth be told, she told me long before she told you, I’ve been hatching this plan for a while now. I wanted it to be perfect.”
Bucky just stared at you in wonder, and you stared back with all the love you could convey.
“Happy birthday, babe,” you whispered into the silence and a single tear fell down Bucky’s cheek. You wiped it away with your thumb and he leant into your touch. “I love you, so much.”
“I love you more, doll,” Bucky whispered.
“Now, c’mon!” You rushed, unbuckling your seat belt and opening the car door. “Let’s go!”
You held Bucky’s hand tightly as you led the way – Bucky was far too overwhelmed and staring at everything in awe, the dogs, their handlers, the hustle and bustle of the workers and volunteers.
The main reception was a small building, cosy and homely with soft neutral tones and wooden floor boards, with well-loved couches and seats scattered about the waiting area.
“Hey there! Welcome,” a lady said from behind the main desk. She was an elderly woman, her smile bright and happy. “What can I do for you?”
“I called ahead,” you said and supplied your name. Bucky was too busy taking in the environment to pay attention. “And this is Bucky.”
“Ah! Hello, dear,” the woman replied, a twinkle in her eye. “My name is Deb, take a seat for me and someone will be right out to bring you back.”
Bucky followed you without a word when you moved to sit on a couch to wait. There was soft music playing over the speakers and Bucky kept looking around, not in fear – the tells of his expression were only of nerves, and excitement. You placed your hand on his bouncing knee and smiled at him warmly. “You doing okay, babe?”
“Yeah, yeah,” Bucky said, his voice strained. “Just–just happy, I can’t believe it-”
You brought Bucky’s hand up to your lips and kissed his knuckles, a soothing act to his fraying nerves. “I know, I can’t wait.”
A call of your name came from the desk and you looked over to see another staff member, a woman about your age with dark hair. Her smile was contagious and she looked as though she was bouncing on the spot with excitement. “I’m Cherie,” she said, offering her hand to shake. “Come with me, I’ll take you back. Though I gotta warn you, they are extra cuddly today.”
“They?” Bucky whispered, and Cherie grinned.
“They,” Cherie affirmed. “It’s for the best that you dressed comfortably, you will likely be stuck with them for a while. Lil’ terrors, they are.”
Bucky looked at you with barely restrained excitement and you nodded encouragingly. “They,” he repeated just above a whisper. “Oh, no, baby–am I looking at-”
“Wait and see, Buck,” you replied, pulling him along. The corridors were bright with sunlight and painted in neutral tones, a natural, peaceful atmosphere you were grateful for. Bucky was already struggling with the fact he was out and about, throwing extreme levels of excitement in the mix and it would be a recipe for disaster if you weren’t careful.
“We’re just down here,” Cherie said cheerily, pointing towards a set of double doors with yellow paw prints painted along the bottom. “Are you ready?”
You looked at Bucky and he smiled nervously. “We’re ready,” you answered Cherie, still looking at Bucky. “You got this, babe, I’m here.” A squeeze to his hand that he returned zealously.
“Here we go,” Cherie gushed, her voice high in excitement and the double doors opened with a quiet whoosh. The sight made you gasp in shock while Bucky stared in awe. The room was vast. Glass pens filled to the brim with blankets and beds lined two opposing walls, while towering cat trees were placed against the far wall, their height perfect for the cats to look through a window that spanned the top half of the wall, the view of the play yards the perfect enrichment.
“Holy cow,” Bucky whispered, his eyes bright with wonder and curiosity. “Oh my-” A mewling noise cut him off and the two of you looked to the source.
Kittens.
Kittens of all shapes, colours, and sizes, were scrabbling against the glass door of their pen; their little mouths wide with cries for love and cuddles, for scratches and pets. It was enough to bring tears to your eyes, they were so damn cute.
“Oh my gosh,” you whispered, rushing over while Bucky stood rooted to the spot and staring wide eyed at the kittens jostling to get closer to your presence. “They’re so cute, oh my gosh!”
“That they are!” Cherie agreed. She was bustling around and grabbing large pillows and blankets. “This litter seems to be the cuddliest we’ve had yet, so you’re in luck.”
You looked over your shoulder and up to Bucky. “C’mere, babe, it’s okay,” you encouraged, offering a hand out for him to hold. “It’s okay.” Slowly, ever so slowly, Bucky took your offered hand and crouched down beside you. “Aren’t they adorable?”
“They are,” Bucky whispered, reaching a finger out to the glass and watching the kittens scrabble over one another just to touch, to feel the newcomer’s touch.
A shuffling sound and a soft plop echoed behind you, and you looked over to find Cherie placing two large pillows on the floor – close, but not too close. “Are you two ready for me to let them out?”
You stood and pulled Bucky up with you. He hadn’t worn his gloves today so you held his right hand, and grabbed a hold of the cold metal of his left. “Listen, babe,” you began softly, and Bucky finally tore his eyes away from the fluffy kittens to look at you. There was a glint in his eyes, a sparkle of happiness you hadn’t seen before – you immediately knew this was the best idea that his therapist could have come up with. “They’re gonna crowd you, they’re gonna be loud,” you continued, even softer. “But you are safe, you’re with me, and you won’t hurt them,” for emphasis, you squeezed his left hand and he glanced down at it, then back up at you. “I promise, okay?”
Bucky’s throat worked as he swallowed thickly, and he gave a slow, single nod. “Okay.”
God, you were so proud of him.
“We’re ready,” you said to Cherie, leading Bucky to the pillows. Sitting down with a quiet oof, you took Bucky’s hand and squeezed it while Cherie walked to the door of the pen. “Proud of you, babe,” you whispered to Bucky while Cherie’s back was turned, and he smiled happily.
“All right,” Cherie began, turning around so you could see her wide grin. “Batten the hatches, here they come.”
The door swung open, and it was pandemonium. Kittens ran everywhere, their cries and meows of determination to find their way to your laps first was incredibly endearing. A few stragglers chose to adventure rather than run amongst the charging cavalry.
“Whoa!”
You looked at Bucky quickly, afraid he was too overwhelmed, but instead your heart soared.  Bucky was sitting stock still, wide-eyed, and his hands trembled slightly where they rested on his knees, but he was covered in kittens. They were climbing determinedly into his lap and up his stomach and up his arms with one mission in mind; to get the first cuddle from the newcomer.
Cherie was laughing softly from her place by the door and you followed suit. The look of wonder on Bucky’s face had only doubled in intensity as he watched the little balls of fluff fight over who got to his face first.
A small black kitten won the race in the end. Bucky moved so slowly, so carefully, to cradle it in his large hand where it mewled and rubbed over his fingers. The others continued to claw up his front until a calico reached his shoulder to meow right into Bucky’s ear, but he didn’t even flinch. “Hey, little guy,” he cooed, picking the calico up from his shoulder with his free hand, his left hand. “You’re so small…”
Your heart grew so big at the sight you were sure it would burst from your chest. Bucky was so gentle, so careful, with the kittens – treating them so delicately, even when he was petrified of the thought of hurting them with his strength. You knew he had it in him, but here he was, proving to himself that he was indeed capable of being gentle, of being a beefy, living, breathing cat tree.
Kittens were beginning to meander about, their curiosity winning out over the giant man in their presence in favour of coming to investigate you. “Hey, lil’ guys,” you whispered happily, scratching a ginger kitten and a brown kitten behind the ears. “You’re all so cute!”
You looked over at Bucky while you played with a black and white one that had barrelled its way through the ginger and brown one, and you paused. He was frozen with a lap full of kittens, though he wasn’t looking at them, any of them. “Babe, are you okay?”
Bucky didn’t answer right away and you grew worried, until you glanced towards where he was staring. A small kitten, no bigger than your palm, sat huddled just out of reach and it was shivering, the long white fur of its coat trembling with the movements of its body. It was a little odd – all of the other kittens were playful and bouncing around, though not this one.
“This little one had a rough start,” Cherie said softly, crouching down and offering an open palm to the tiny kitten. “Her mother was hit and killed by a car and this lil’ one was found in an alley. A young man brought her in, and she’s been in our care ever since. She only recently became old enough to be amongst this lot.”
“She’s so small,” Bucky said, looking at Cherie fully for the first time. “Why is she so small?”
“We don’t know,” Cherie answered sadly, a small frown tugging at the corner of her lips. “Though she is healthy, she’s just… small.”
“Can I-” Bucky began, but stopped. He started to chew his lip in thought.
You looked at him and watched his expression tighten, tears remarkably clouded his eyes and he frowned sadly. “What is it, babe?”
Bucky looked at you, almost pleading, then back to the kitten, and then up at Cherie. “Can I hold her?” His voice was small, quiet. Cherie looked taken aback at the question for a brief second but she covered it with a smile.
“Of course you can, love.” Cherie stood and shuffled back to the door. “Do you want the others to go back? We can take you to a quieter room for this lil’ nervous ball of fluff, yeah?”
“Yes, please,” Bucky murmured. He scratched a few of the kittens in his lap behind the ears and cooed to them in farewell, before picking them up carefully and offering them up to Cherie.
You helped Cherie herd the kitten back into their pen until the fluffy, tiny one remained; huddled on the floor and looking up at Bucky with bright, wide blue eyes.
“Hello, little one,” Bucky breathed, offering a hand to the small, adorable creature. “It’s okay, not gonna hurt you.”
Your heart seized at his words, and you smiled tearily to yourself.
The kitten didn’t move from its place on the floor, though it sniffed the air, its little nose wiggling with the effort and it was all you could do to not coo loudly. Bucky shuffled closer to the kitten and with baited breath, he reached forward and carefully picked her up from the floor. A loud mew suddenly left the kitten, startling all three of you, and it started purring in earnest.
“I think you have found the one, Bucky,” Cherie said quietly, a soft smile on her lips while she watched. “Come, there is a much quieter room where you can sit with this lil’ angel.”
Bucky looked up at you with wide, glassy eyes, a smile on his perfect lips. “Okay,” he said, slowly manoeuvring his way to his feet. “She’s very soft.” The small kitten mewed quietly when Bucky moved her so he could cradle her against his chest, the size of his hands dwarfing her even more.
“She is so cute, such a small lil’ thing,” you cooed, offering a finger for her to sniff. Bucky offered her to you to hold but you shook your head quickly, pushing his hands back against his chest so she could cuddle into his shirt. “I’ll get my fill of cuddles later, I don’t mind.”
Cherie led the two of you to a smaller, more intimate room with a floor to ceiling window on one side, and two couches placed opposite one another on a carpeted rug. A basket of toys sat next to a small cat tree, right by a small bowl of water. “Here you are,” she said, ushering you and Bucky inside. “I’ll be just down the hall, over there,” she pointed at another door labelled ‘employees only’, “if you need me, okay?”
“Thank you,” you beamed, and Bucky nodded in agreement, his attention wholly focused on the ball of fluff that was now wriggling in his hands. Cherie grinned and nodded before turning and departing your company.
“She is so soft,” Bucky marvelled quietly. “She’s like a cloud–a fluffy cloud.”
“She definitely is,” you agreed happily, taking a seat on the couch next to the toys. “Come sit, babe, she might want to play.”
Disregarding the couch entirely, Bucky sat cross-legged on the floor with his back against the opposing couch and took off his cap to place it behind him on a cushion. With the cap gone, his hair flowed freely and the kitten noticed, mewling softly as it attempted to crawl up to Bucky’s neck and hide in the curtain of his hair.
“Where you off to, little one?” Bucky chuckled. The kitten made a huffing noise as Bucky grabbed it gently and pulled it away so he could look into her face. “Look at’chu,” he cooed softly, bringing her closer to his face so they were almost nose to nose. “Isn’t she adorable?”
“The cutest,” you answered. A quiet gasp left you when the kitten booped her nose against Bucky’s, licking it once before beginning to purr again. Bucky looked at you with wide eyes, an unspoken ‘did you see that!’, you nodded, smiling happily. “I did, babe. I did.”
Hours passed in that room, the sun was high in the sky by the time you went and looked for Cherie. Bucky had spent the entire time cooing softly and playing with the kitten, and you knew she was the one for him when he started to cry when she grabbed his left forefinger between her paws and looked up at him. Somehow, her eyes were full of adoration – it was like she was human at that point.
Once you had found Cherie, you had brought her back to the room but gestured to keep quiet. She peered over your shoulder and you both watched while Bucky held the kitten up to his face so she could rub over his cheek, the volume of her purrs audible even in the doorway. “She’s the one,” Cherie whispered, and you nodded – you wholeheartedly agreed.
While you filled out the paperwork, Bucky held the kitten, cradling her against his neck where she curled happily amongst the loose hair from under his cap. Deb had smiled so wide when she spied the two of you walking back to reception with, “The cutest bundle of fluff I ever did see,” and had hurried to grab the paperwork that you were almost finished with.
“Now if there are any issues, just give us a call and we would be happy to help,” Cherie said. Her hand stretched out to scratch the kitten one last time and Bucky didn’t flinch at the initiation. “You take care now, y’hear?”
“I hear,” Bucky mumbled, smiling contentedly while stroking the kitten. “Thank you.”
“You’re most welcome, love,” Cherie replied, and Deb nodded.
“It has been wonderful seeing your family grow.”
You offered the completed paperwork back to Deb, and rested a hand on Bucky’s arm. “You guys have been amazing, thank you for helping me make his birthday special.”
The drive home was full of Bucky making soft cooing noises at the kitten and petting her, the fact that you were driving his car didn’t even cross his mind – you knew that for a fact because he didn’t wince or complain playfully about your driving, not even once.
“Have you thought of a name, Buck?” You asked, pulling into the driveway and turning the car off. Bucky nodded once and continued to coo at the kitten. “Let’s get her inside, you take her and I’ll grab the supplies they gave us.”
As soon as the door swung open, Bucky made a beeline for the living room to sit on his side of the couch. You sighed and hauled everything in, content to see Bucky so happy with his gift – a very successful plan, if you said so yourself.
The day went by gracefully slowly, the hours stretching on while Bucky settled her into your home. It was close to dinner time when you asked again. “What’s this angel’s name, babe?”
Bucky looked up at you while you stood in the kitchen, his perch on the couch the perfect spot for you to see him carding through her fur while she dozed. “Her name is Alpine,” he said happily. “And she’s my second best girl.”
You laughed and made your way over, moving to sit down on the couch next to Alpine, but Bucky grabbed your wrist and pulled you over to sit in his lap. He wasted no time in cradling you close, resting his head in the crook of your neck while he breathed you in.
“Thank you, for today,” Bucky mumbled into the comfortable silence. “I’m one lucky fella to call you mine, baby girl.”
“You’re welcome, Bucky,” you said quietly, grabbing his hand and squeezing it. “I’m the lucky one here, I promise.”
The two of you sat in silence while you watched the slow rise and fall of Alpine’s side while she breathed deeply, content and fast asleep from the exhausting day of playing and her many adventures.
“‘M gonna say it again, babe,” you started, yawning part way through. Bucky rubbed your side and nuzzled closer. “Happy birthday.” You felt Bucky smile, the tug of his lips tickling the side of your neck while his breath fanned over your skin, sending shivers down your spine.
“Thank you, sweetheart,” Bucky whispered, placing a single kiss on the column of your throat. “I love you so much.”

You never expected anyone to notice you. Certainly not at school. You were the kind of person that remained in the background, an extra in a life full of main and supporting characters. You were constantly reading books, getting lost in other worlds and people with lives far more exciting than yours.
You stuck close to your tiny group of friends, but even then, you stayed on the quiet side. Though you loved them, you felt the most at peace when you were in your room. Alone and worry free. When you were alone, you didn’t have to focus on what you were saying or what others thought, it was just you and your thoughts. Just how you liked it.
There was one person, however, who did notice you. The only thing is, you didn’t know who that was. You never expected secret admirers to be a real thing, seeing them in movies and reading about such things. But, you had one of your own. You couldn’t wrap your head around the idea of someone liking you, but staying anonymous about it.
A new school day usually means a new note in your locker. New words to think about the rest of the day. They were always sweet, leaving you standing in the hall with heated cheeks and butterflies in your stomach.
It was almost pathetic, the way you had a crush on whoever this was. Because nobody had ever said things like this to you. Complimenting you on small things like what necklace you were wearing or how you did your hair. Using words like ‘pretty’ and ‘beautiful’ to describe you. How could you not fall for that?
You had only told one of your friends, your best friend, about the notes, not wanting to make a big deal out of it around people. She was walking up to your locker like she always did in the mornings, raising her eyebrows up and down suggestively at you.
“Hey! Any notes yet?”
You laughed at her eagerness, “Robin, you know I always get them after Johnson’s class.”
Robin had been your best friend since you started high school. You met in your first period freshman year and had become inseparable ever since. Her band-geek nature complimented your bookworm self perfectly.
“Ohhh right. I forgot this secret admirer of yours has a schedule.”
“I think they’re in that class.”
“You have theories now? Oh my gosh! We are totally gonna find out who this is soon!”
“Robin, stop it! I'm going to class.”
“You know I'm right!” She called as she walked away from you. You actually didn’t know it then, but she really was right about finding out who exactly was leaving you these notes.
You walked into your class and sat in your spot, in the back row. It’s where you sat in every class. The first half of your day went by as normal, taking notes, keeping your head down, and getting as much work done as possible.
Before you knew it, it was lunchtime and you made your way to the cafeteria, spotting Robin at your usual table. Your other two friends weren’t having lunch with you today as they both had clubs to attend, leaving you and your best friend to yourselves.
“How were your morning classes, Robs?” You spoke as you sat down across from her, placing your tray on the table.
“You know, same old, same old. Harrington came into Click’s class late this morning, like always.”
“Bagel and everything?”
“Yes! God, he’s infuriating.”
“I don’t know, I think he seems nice.”
“Nice? Have you seen who he hangs around?”
“Well yeah but when they try to say stuff to me he always stops them. He’s not the same as Tommy H. or Carol.”
She gasped, “no way! You like him!”
“What are you talking about? I’ve barely ever spoken to him. He’s just in some of my classes, is all.”
“Sure it is…”
“Robs, stop! Can we just talk about something else?”
She changed the subject right away. You loved that about Robin. How she knew when to stop teasing or prodding and to drop something. She was your best friend for a reason, after all.
Time went by quickly as you chatted away, and as you finished up your food, the bell rang signaling the end of lunch.
“You better tell me what the note says today!” Robin said as you put your trays away.
“Yeah, yeah. Bye, Robin.”
Your next class was with Mrs. Johnson. Science. It wasn’t your favorite class, but it wasn’t your least favorite either. But, you always looked forward to it being over and finding a note in your locker. They always made your day better, no matter what.
You didn’t know what you were doing in class today, but Mrs. Johnson had mentioned something about a project. As you sat down in your usual seat, you glanced at the board. Written in big letters, it said, ‘partner projects’ and you wanted to hide under your desk then and there. You wished Robin was in this class, that way you wouldn’t even have to worry.
Right when the bell rang to announce the beginning of the class, Steve Harrington came in looking a little out of breath, like he was trying to beat the bell. As he took his seat, and you watched, Mrs. Johnson started talking about the project.
“This time you guys will not be choosing your partners, I will be doing that for you. I want to mix things up and force you to interact with each other, and no, I won’t change my mind about it.”
You weren’t opposed to her choosing. If she didn’t find a partner for you, you’d just end up working by yourself like usual. Maybe this way you could get out of your shell, just a little.
Mrs. Johnson was calling out names in pairs, and you watched your classmates looking around at their partners with small smiles, some fake, some shy, some happy with the outcome of their group. Then, she was calling your name.
“Y/n, you’ll be with Steve…”
She kept reading names but you weren’t focusing on that. Partnered with Steve Harrington? You were done for. He was always kind to you, defending you when his friends were being jerks—which they always were. You couldn’t help but feel nervous around him, he was sweet and so pretty. So what if you had a (not so) small crush on him? Nothing would ever happen anyways.
When Steve heard your names called together, he was beaming. He knew you were shy by nature, that you didn’t really talk to people you didn’t know, but he was hoping to become someone you’d talk to. Someone who could get you to open up and be around without worrying. Ever since he noticed you reading by yourself during free period, he knew he wanted to know you. To be known, really known, by you.
He smiled at you and gathered his things, moving over to the now empty desk next to yours and pushing it so the two tables were together. You gave him a shy smile in return, tucking your hair behind your ears just for something to do with your hands.
“Hi Steve.” You spoke quietly, so quiet he almost didn’t hear you, but he was so glad he did. He thought you were so cute, and he could tell you were trying. This was going to be the best project ever.
“Hi back!”
You smiled at him, glad he was talking to you in this soft way that made you feel welcome. Like he really wanted to talk to you.
“So, listen y/n, I’m not the best at science, but I swear I’ll try my best. You might have to help me along the way, though.”
“That’s okay. What are partners for, right?”
“This is gonna be great, I know it! You and me, we’re gonna make a great team. Unstoppable even.”
Before you could reply, Mrs. Johnson was beginning to give instructions for the project, and you started taking notes so you wouldn’t forget anything. Steve was listening, but his eyes were on you and the way you leaned closer to your paper when you wrote. The way your tongue poked out between your lips the tiniest bit in focus.
When the instructions were over with, the class got to work. Mostly, though, people would just talk amongst each other, leaving the work for later.
“I was thinking maybe you could come over today after school? Get a head start on this project?”
You wanted to say yes right away. Of course you wanted to. But you were nervous. Alone with none other than Steve Harrington, what a trip that would be.
“Are you sure? Your parents wouldn’t mind?”
“Don’t really have to worry about them, um, they aren’t around much so. It’s basically my house. But hey, if you’d rather meet up at the library that works too.”
He knew you were a nervous person, shy by nature, and he didn’t want to scare you off. No, that was the last thing he wanted to do. So, he offered a middle ground. One you appreciated so much.
“That’d be great, Steve. I don’t have a car, though.”
“That’s alright! I can drive you. We can meet up in the parking lot. Is that okay?”
More than okay. He was so sweet to you, you didn’t understand why on earth he was friends with people like Tommy and Carol. They didn’t deserve a friend like him.
“That’s really nice of you.”
“It’s no problem at all, I swear.”
“Okay. Yeah, I’ll meet you then.”
“Perfect! It’s gonna be great, I’m telling you.”
Then, the bell was ringing. You always took a bit more time than everyone else to get out of class; you had to put your things away the same way every time. You also liked waiting a bit before walking to your locker and then your next class, waiting until the halls were a bit emptier.
As you made your way to your locker, your stomach was fluttering. Excited to see what your special note would say today. Excited about seeing that special handwriting and that special sign off with a small heart. Every single time.
You unlocked your locker and spotted the paper right away. It was always the same kind of paper, lined and slightly crumpled from being shoved into your locker. You smiled softly at the sight of it, looking around before reaching in and reading it.
‘You look pretty today. You do every day, but I think today is extra special! -S <3’
You always assumed the ‘S’ stood for ‘secret admirer,’ because that just made sense. As you read the note and saw the heart drawn the same way it always was, you felt your cheeks heating up, your head ducking down bashfully. You felt silly for liking these notes so much, for keeping them all in a small pile at the back of your locker. Like they were items that you’d always need.
You didn’t notice Steve looking at you, but he was. He liked to see your reactions to the small notes he left you. He had a crush on you for ages, but could see you were someone who had to warm up to others. In an attempt not to scare you away, he decided that starting with notes was a great way to go. It was convenient that his first initial was also what was at the front of the term ‘secret admirer.’ He really lucked out on that one.
He loved seeing you read his notes, seeing the way you’d blush at his words. Even if you didn’t know they were his, you would at some point. He felt so special every time you tucked away the notes into your locker rather than tossing it in the trash. Now that you were partners and were meeting up after school, he had a real chance to tell you the truth. But he couldn’t lie, he was nervous too.
Would you think he was creepy for writing to you? For being anonymous and acting as if he was innocent in the matter? Well, it was too late now. He was already in too deep. Caught up in you and who you were. A sweet person with a gentle soul who deserved to know how pretty and beautiful she was.
Once the next bell rang, you closed your locker and made your way to your next class. Steve did the same.
Your next class was with Robin, so you had the chance to freak out and force her to listen to you. You sat down in your seat next to hers, and she wasted no time.
“So what did it say today?”
“Shhh! Robin! Um just that I looked pretty, like more than usual.”
“Awww that’s cute! I can see you trying not to smile thinking about it!”
“Anyways. I’m meeting Steve after school because we’re science partners and I’m kinda freaking out and I need you to tell me it’ll be fine.”
“No way! Steve Harrington? Oh this is something straight out of a rom com. Shy girl partnered with super popular guy.”
“Robs! Not helping!”
“Sorry, okay. Listen it’ll be fine, you’re gonna talk to him and like you said, he’s nice to you! Nothing to freak out about.”
“Yeah, you’re right.” You weren’t actually convinced, but class was starting and you were forced to stop chatting and pay attention.
The rest of the day, you and Steve were both looking forward to meeting at the library, even if it was for science class. The nerves and jitters as well as excitement and giddy feelings were all mutual. But, neither of you knew that.
The end of the day came and you quickly made your way to the parking lot, not wanting to make Steve wait for you too long. When you got outside, you saw him leaning against his car door, talking to none other than Tommy and Carol. Great.
You walked up to Steve’s car, keeping your head down and trying your best to avoid the gazes of Steve’s friends. Unfortunately, that didn’t work.
“Look who it is! Are you lost?” Tommy faked concern, making you feel so out of place you wanted to shrink back into the ground.
“She must be, she can’t even speak!” Carol added on.
“Guys, seriously? Why do you always have to be such assholes?” Steve was quick to defend you, like he always did, but his words were harsher this time. More firm in his will to get them to stop.
“Geez, you’ve gotten boring, Harrington.”
With that, they walked away, leaving you and Steve alone standing by his car. He unlocked it and walked over to the passenger side, opening the door for you and ushering you in. A gentleman, really. He jogged around to the driver’s side and got in. Starting the car and driving away. It was silent for a bit, but Steve eventually spoke up.
“I’m really sorry about them. I don’t even know why I hang out with them, honestly. But don’t listen to them, okay? I'm glad we’re partners.”
“It’s okay. Um, thanks for defending me.”
“It’s not okay! I guess I only really hang around them ‘cause I don’t have other friends. I don’t even like them, really. They’re so mean.”
“You could hang out with me. I mean, only if you want to.”
You regretted the words as soon as they left your mouth. Why would he want to hang out with you of all people? You really just embarrassed yourself not even five minutes into the drive.
“I might take you up on that, actually.”
Oh. Wow. Maybe that was a good thing to say after all. You couldn’t really believe that he’d actually want to be around you without being obligated. But he sounded genuine, and glad. Like the offer really meant a lot to him. It did, but you didn’t know that for sure.
“Okay, cool.” You didn’t have a better reply, too shocked and excited by his acceptance of you offer.
“Yeah, cool.”
The rest of the car ride went by quietly, your leg bouncing up and down anxiously, gazing out the window to try and calm your mind. You didn’t know how to talk to him. Scared you’d say something weird or dumb and he’d stop being so nice to you. It was irrational, you knew that, but you couldn’t help your thoughts.
Steve was focusing on the road, his hands gripping the steering wheel tighter than usual because of his nerves. He wanted you to like him so badly. He was trying his best to be calm and collected around you, when in reality, he couldn’t think straight. Your perfume was filling his senses, sweet just like you.
Next thing you knew you were at the library, Steve pulling in and parking the car. You were excited to go inside, to start the project. Mostly because it gave you something to talk about, a subject you didn’t have to overthink. You were still nervous though. Because this was Steve Harrington, local heartthrob and the prettiest boy you’d ever seen. No matter how sweet he was to you, you couldn’t help but feel flustered around him.
He shut the car off and got out, jogging around to your side so he could open the door for you once again. You smiled at his action, his eagerness to be a classic gentleman around you. It was really, really cute.
As you got out of the car, he grabbed your bags from the backseat. You tried to grab yours from him but he pulled it away from you, shaking his head with a cheeky grin on his face.
“Nope, I got the bags. Keep walking!”
You giggled at him, and he wanted to make you do it again. To hear the sound over and over because it was so light, so airy. Like the best kind of cotton candy, sweet and pink and amazing every time.
Just like he did with the car, he opened the door to the library for you, even while holding both bags. “After you, m’lady.”
“Why thank you!” You walked into the library with a smile on your face. Why’d he have to be so nice? This crush you had on him was not going to end well and you knew it. But, you couldn’t help it.
“Y/n! Hi sweetie! And who’s this?” The librarian greeted you, excited to see one of her favorite customers.
“Hi. Um, this is Steve.”
“Hi! Nice to meet you. We’re doing a science project.” Steve spoke brightly, like he had known her for longer than thirty seconds. It was impressive, the way he could be so bright around a total stranger. You think maybe he could help you be that way, too.
“I see. You kids have fun with that! Won’t even know I’m here.”
Steve was walking ahead of you, and the librarian gave you a thumbs up when he wasn’t looking, like she knew something you didn’t. You rolled your eyes playfully and caught up to Steve. The two of you sat at a table close to the window, light seeping in and casting shadows across your faces.
“So what do you wanna do first?”
He was letting you take the lead, knowing that you liked to do things a certain way and not wanting to disrupt that for you. The last thing he wanted to do was mess up your routine. He was attentive like that. All of his observing you fondly has taught him plenty.
“Um, we could look at the outline, maybe?”
“Sure thing, boss!”
“Boss?”
“Oh yeah. You’re definitely in charge here.”
“Me?” You don’t know why that surprised you so much. You suppose it could be because you’re used to being talked over in group settings. But he somehow knew that you liked to take the lead with schoolwork, even if it was in your own subdued and quiet way.
“C’mon let’s get started! Get our science on!”
“You sound really excited about doing science, Steve.”
“Correction, I’m excited to do science with you. I told you, we’re gonna make a great team.”
He had a way of saying things that made them feel real, genuine. A way of talking that left you with heated cheeks constantly and words imprinted in your head. You thought about your secret admirer and their words. You felt similar about them and Steve. Both of them gave you the same feeling, and you didn’t know what to make of that. There was absolutely no way it was Steve. Right?
Robin was going to have a field day with this.
The project carried on smoothly, conversation flowing along with it. You and Steve ended up getting a lot done, and you were happy that he was able to focus on the work and keep up his playful demeanor at the same time.
Hours sped by as you worked, never even glancing at the clock because you didn’t feel the need to. You didn’t even want to go home, you wanted to stay there in the secluded library with Steve forever. It was peaceful, and it was calm. It was a blooming friendship and an ever-growing crush. Small smiles and shared laughs, a brush of hands and clammy palms.
Before you knew it, it was time for you to get home, finally checking your watch and gasping at the time.
“Shit, I gotta get home.”
“She cusses!” He felt like you were letting go around him, like you were becoming more comfortable in his company. It was all he ever wanted, and he hoped that one day he’d get you to be completely yourself with him. For the first time, he really felt like it was possible.
“My mom’s gonna kill me if I’m late.” You were packing your things as quickly as possible, trying to do the math in your head of how long your walk would take. Figuring out what excuse you’d give your mom.
“Hey, it’s okay. I’ll drive you home, no problem. Breathe.” He could see the wheels turning in your head, the panic growing in your chest at the thought of being late. He wanted nothing more than to bring you peace.
“You sure?”
“Of course I am. Like I said, my parents aren’t even home so.. I can be as late as I want. C’mon.”
You didn’t have time to reply before he was walking out of the library, waving goodbye at the librarian and holding the door open for you once again. You rushed over to his car and got in, hands shaking slightly in your lap. You hated being late, and you hated it when your mom was mad.
Steve started to drive, following your quiet directions to your house. He noticed your hands shaking in your lap, and reached over with one of his to hold them. He didn’t know what brought him to do that, to hold your hands in his. But he was glad he did it, because you grasped his hand in one of yours tightly.
You were holding Steve’s hand. What the hell was happening? This was something you were going to think about later. But, right now you were too focused on getting home before your curfew to concentrate on how his hand felt in yours. On the way he wordlessly let you grip his hand because he knew it would help. Why was he so kind to you? Of all people, he decided to be at his softest when you were with him, like his ‘King Steve’ persona—that really wasn’t him at all—melted away.
He pulled over on the street next to your house, telling you softly you’d arrived.
“Thank you so much, Steve. Sorry for, um, freaking out.”
“No worries. Happens to us all. I’ll see you tomorrow, yeah?”
“Yeah. Bye, Steve.”
Then, you got out of the car, running up to your door and going inside. Luckily, you had a minute to spare before your curfew was up, and you let out a breath of relief before going up to your room and collapsing on the bed.
Steve waited by the curb to make sure you got in okay, waiting until your bedroom light turned on before pulling away and heading back home to a lonely, empty house. He found himself wishing you were still with him.
When he got home he couldn’t stop his mind from drifting to you. To your eyes and how they crinkled just slightly in the corners when you smiled. To your laugh and how it felt like a reward every time he got one out of you. To all things you.
For once he wasn’t thinking about how empty his house was or the constant lack of his parents being around. He wasn’t concerned about his asshole friends or what people at school thought of him.
He was only thinking about you.
The next day at school, Steve was completely unfocused—more so than usual. He was too busy looking forward to Johnson’s class because he would get to see you. How pathetic is that? He couldn’t even listen in any class because of how he felt about you.
You weren’t much different than him. You still took your notes, but you found yourself zoning out writing mid-sentence, ending up with messy letters and crooked lines. You barely spoke a word during lunch, mind wandering to how your next class was going to go. Robin took notice, but she decided she’d interrogate you during your shared class.
You ate your food slowly, hoping the time would move quicker if you kept yourself occupied. You were waiting impatiently for the bell to ring, to go to your stupid science crush and see the boy you had a stupid crush on.
Your hopes were answered, as if the bell could read your thoughts. The loud ring cut through the cafeteria and you shot out of your seat and headed to class. There was an added pep in your step, your pace faster than usual. It was crazy, how you wanted to get to class for the sole purpose of seeing Steve.
As you walked in, you noticed that he was already sitting at the desk next to yours. Steve perked up when you came in, smiling brightly at you and waving. You have a small wave back, making your way to the back of the class and sitting down.
“Hi! I hope it’s not weird I’m sitting here. Figured it’d be easier since we’re partners and all.” He sounded nervous, which was surprising to you. You never imagined Steve Harrington as one to get nervous. Certainly not around you.
“It’s not weird at all, Steve.”
“Okay, great.”
Then it was quiet between you two. You had felt comfort in silence many times, but this was different. It was full of nerves and overthinking. For once, you wanted to speak up first.
“Thanks again for driving me last night.”
“No sweat. Did I get you home on time?”
“Had a minute to spare.”
“See! Perfect team.”
You gave him one of your small laughs at that, and he couldn’t stop looking at you. Not when the class bell rang and you turned away to get your stuff. Not when your teacher started talking to the class. He never thought he would feel this way about another person; like he couldn’t even take his eyes off of her or else she’d disappear. But he felt that way, in that moment, with you.
He was snapped out of it when you brought up the project now that Mrs. Johnson was done talking.
“So, do you wanna work after school again today?”
“What? Oh! Yeah, sure.”
“Um. I was thinking maybe you could just come to my house, that way we don’t have to worry about me being late again. It’s okay if you don’t want to, though.”
“Sounds great, y/n. I’ll drive us, okay?”
“Okay,” you’d never had anyone over to your house except Robin, and you have no idea why you decided to invite Steve. But, you didn’t regret it. Even though having him in your room would be new, personal even, you felt like it would be okay. He’d never done anything to make you think otherwise.
Steve was excited at the idea of getting to go to your house, to see you in your environment where you’re comfortable. He felt like he’d been invited to tea with the queen or something, with how special it was to him.
Steve moved his desk right next to yours again, and you guys got to work after that, trying to stay focused even when your foot would brush his ankle. Even when he would nudge you playfully like friends do. Even when you both just wanted the school day to be over so you could be in his car together again.
Time slipped away yet again, like when you were with Steve the concept didn’t even exist. No minutes, no seconds, no hours. Just you and him. Class ended, and Steve got up, leaving you with a quick ‘see you later!’ before quickly walking out. You took your time to pack up as usual, then went to your locker.
You had forgotten all about the notes you’d been receiving until you opened your locker and found another one. Your mind had been so full of Steve that you didn’t even think of your secret admirer. You still couldn’t help the smile that overcame your features at the sight of the familiar paper and handwriting, though.
‘I think I’m running out of words to describe you. There aren’t enough in the world for that. -S <3’
You don’t know exactly why, but this one felt more personal than the other notes. It felt like maybe you knew this person more than you thought you did. You quickly put the note in the stack with the others and made your way to your next class. You needed to spill to Robin.
You took your seat next to her and sighed, loud enough that she took notice.
“What’s up with you?”
“I kinda sorta invited Steve to my house and I think I kinda sorta have a really huge crush on him.” You spoke fast, partly so it would be harder for Robin to understand you and partly because you just had to get it out.
“You did what? And, duh. I know that.”
“He’s driving us both to my place after school.”
“Oh you have it so bad! What about your secret admirer?”
“Well today I didn’t even think of them until I saw the note, which was super cute, but still. I don’t know. What if they remain a secret forever?”
“I guess that’s a good point. Moving on is good, but Steve? Seriously?” She started faux gagging, expressing her dislike for the boy.
“Stop it! You don’t know him. He’s not the same as his friends.”
“I’ll believe it when I see it.”
“Robs, have you ever seen him being the one to be an ass? I know he doesn’t always stop them, but he does now. He’s different.” You meant it. He was different from what everyone made him out to be. He was more than just some womanizer—he wasn’t even going on dates anymore—and he wasn’t a bully. He was a good person, and you wanted people to know that.
“Okay, okay. So your house, huh? That’s a big step for you.”
“I know it is. I trust him.”
“This is crazy.”
You left it at that, not wanting to get your hopes up for anything and certainly not wanting Robin to make you feel some kind of way about the whole situation.
Class started and ended in a blur. Your head kept down, pencil held tightly in your grasp. Leg bouncing and eyes flickering over to the clock every few minutes. The rest of the day went the same way, and you were impatiently waiting for it to be over.
When the end of the day came, however, you started to feel nervous. Steve was going to be in your house, in your room. You never thought a simple science project would bring so much confusion into your life, but it did. You were stuck sorting your feelings for Steve, for your secret admirer. Facing many of your usual fears—though they didn’t feel so scary where Steve was involved.
You made your way to the parking lot like you had the day before. Luckily, this time, there was no Tommy or Carol in sight. Just Steve leaning against the car kicking pebbles with his feet while waiting for you. When he saw you, he quickly walked to the passenger door, opening it for you like he had been doing every time. He then got in his seat, starting the car and driving towards your house.
“I think I remember the way, but you might need to remind me of some things.”
“That’s okay. Thanks for always opening the door for me. A true gentleman.”
“That’s how you treat a sweet lady like you.”
“You have a way with words, Steve.”
“Tell me about it.” He thought of the notes he wrote to you, and if you thought those words were good, too. If you would still act the same around him if you knew he was the one leaving them in your locker every day. He really hoped you would.
“It’s this street here.” You reminded him of where to turn to make it to your house, and he nodded along, turning on his signal and following your directions.
He pulled into your driveway, which happened to be empty, and turned off the car.
“I’ll get your door.” He then got out and walked around to your side of the car, opening the door and letting you out once again. The routine was perfected at this point, and you were happy to let him do it. Happy to oblige. You don’t think you could deny him anyways.
He followed you up the driveway and watched as you got your spare key and unlocked the door, putting the key back before guiding him inside.
“My mom’s working late today, so it’s just us.”
“No problem.” He noticed you fail to mention your dad on many occasions, but he didn’t want to pry, so he left that subject alone.
“We can go up to my room?”
He nodded, “lead the way.”
You did. Walking up the stairs with Steve on your heels. You turned into the hallway, then the doorway of your room. You set your backpack on the ground by the foot of your bed and turned around to face Steve.
“Here it is.”
“It’s really nice.” He was being honest. It felt very you. The cream floral sheets on your bed, the window seat that had a pile of pillows in it, your bookshelf that was full to the brim, even the way your desk was organized.
“Thanks… so, do you wanna do the project?”
“Oh. Yeah, yes. We should do that.”
You sat down on the floor by your bag, and Steve did the same. Backs resting against the end of your bed, legs stretched out and ankles crossed. Bringing up the project was a way to keep things safe, to avoid slipping up and spilling out your feelings. How you had the biggest crush on him, how you could see yourself loving him. Hell, you were almost there already.
Steve hated this damn science project. He just wanted to be around you without homework haunting him. But, he guesses he should also be grateful for it. You wouldn’t have even been in this room together had you not been partners. He just wanted to get it done so he could tell you the truth. That the notes in your locker were all from him, and that he felt more for you than just admiration. So much more.
You were unpacking your things, getting ready to start working. Steve grabbed his stuff too, even though his attention was elsewhere. He really was trying to focus, but you being right next to him didn’t help. Still, he pretended to be unaffected, to just be your partner for science when he wanted to be your partner in life.
“How much do we have left?” He checked in with you, trying to keep his head in the game.
“Not too much. We could probably finish today, actually.” You didn’t sound excited about being done with your project so soon. You just wanted to keep hanging out with Steve, but you were too scared to ask him to. The project was your safety net, and it was disappearing.
“That’s great! I keep on telling you, we’re a great team!”
“Guess you were right about that.”
“Oh, for sure. So, should we get to it?”
“Yeah, we should.”
So you did, reading over what you had done so far and making some notes as you went along. He really was right about the two of you working well together, and you couldn’t help but wonder if that would translate into a romantic relationship, too. It was silly, but that’s where your mind wandered before you snapped out of it and kept working.
Steve found it impressive, the way you were so dedicated to getting your work done. He was thankful for it as well, because there was no way he could be the one to keep the project going. You were silent as you worked, and he supposed that helped him. He couldn’t be distracted by your voice or the way your lips moved when you spoke.
Time swept by yet again, and you and Steve had both finished your parts of the project.
He pushed his papers towards you, “do you wanna read over it? Make sure it’s all there?”
You grabbed his pages and gave him yours in exchange, “sure, you do the same.”
“I’m sure yours is perfect, you genius.”
“I’m no genius, Steve. Just read it.”
“Sure thing.. genius.”
You huffed out a laugh, you didn’t know how he managed to make you laugh, to raise your spirits with just a few words. Something about him just made you smile, his aura was bright that way, and you thought if you could see it, it would be yellow.
Beaming sunshine, vibrant flowers, the taste of lemonade on a hot summer day. Yellow.
You both finished reading, smiling at each other in success and relief because it was done.
“It’s great, Steve. I’m kind of surprised.”
“You underestimate me, babe.”
“Babe?”
He didn’t even realize he said it, it sort of just slipped out. He wasn’t even mad about it, though. Because it made you all shy and flustered and it was so fucking cute. It made you react the same way you did to his notes, but this time you knew it was him. He loved it.
“You don’t like it?”
“No, I do, actually. Um, anyways. How was mine?”
“Perfect. You’re really great.”
“Thank you, Steve. I think you’re great too.”
“Yeah?”
Your faces were inches apart now, and neither of you had any idea how that happened. You had simply gravitated towards each other during your conversation. Eyes flicking down to lips, bodies turning towards each other, legs brushing ever so slightly.
You felt the air around you change, grow thicker, “yeah.”
He reached his hand out, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear gently before softly pressing his palm against your cheek. His thumb brushing back and forth on your skin, his head leaning even closer, his eyes moving all over your face.
“Can I kiss you, y/n?” He was looking at your lips as he spoke, but looked back into your eyes to search for a response.
You couldn’t believe this was happening, that he actually wanted to kiss you. That his attention was fully on you and his hand was on your face. Holding you like you were the most precious thing in the world.
“Yes, please.” It came out quietly, but you know he heard it because he was leaning in.
Then, he was kissing you. He was almost shy at first, but when you pushed yourself into him further, when you grabbed his shoulder to keep him close to you, he went in.
He kissed you with emotion, something you’d never felt before. It was like he was trying to say something with this kiss, only, you didn’t know what. He was using the hand on your face to tilt your head the way he wanted, moving his other hand to your waist. Holding you felt unreal, it felt right. He’d never had that with another person before.
His hand on your waist left your head spinning, and you wanted, needed, to get closer to him. You straddled him on the floor of your bedroom, never breaking the kiss. His back was against your bed, and his lips were on yours and it all felt like a dream. You grabbed the back of his head with your other hand, tangling your fingers in his hair.
When you situated yourself on his lap, he was in heaven. Steve was so in awe of you and the way you moved and he was so thankful that he was the one kissing you in this moment. He now had both of his hands on your waist, placing them under your sweater to feel your skin on his. This was insane.
He licked the seam of your lips, getting permission to slip his tongue into your mouth. You opened up for him right away, allowing your tongues to tangle together and it was incredible. You couldn’t help it when you started to move your hips over him. He made you needy in a way you’d never experienced.
His hips bucked up into yours and you gasped into his mouth at the feeling of him. Hard and turned on and it was because of you. You pulled back to breathe and rested your forehead on his. He thought he’d scared you off with his actions, and he squeezed his eyes shut at the thought.
“I’m sorry. Fuck, I’m sorry, babe.”
You grabbed his face in your hands, tilting his head so he was forced to look at you, but he kept his eyes shut, “look at me, Steve.”
He obeyed you. He would do anything you asked him to. His shining brown eyes meeting yours. You got lost in them, swirls of honey and chocolate. Perfect, and sweet, and melting just for you.
“I want this. And I want you. It’s okay.”
“You’re sure?” He was breathing so heavily, he never imagined that this is where a science project would get him, and he decided he’d thank Mrs. Johnson later for putting you together.
You nodded and he could feel the movement as your heads were still together, and then you were kissing again. It was like you hadn’t even stopped, finding the rhythm right away, two magnets with opposite attractions. Stuck together.
Your hips were moving faster over him, chasing the friction leaving your panties a mess. He bucked into you again, using his hands on your waist to keep you sliding over him. Before you could go any further, though, he was pulling away.
“Get on the bed, angel.”
Yet another term of endearment that had slipped past his lips. He didn’t overthink it this time, though. You really were an angel and he wanted you all to himself. He knew it was a bad idea to do this when he hadn’t been fully honest with you yet, but he couldn’t help himself. He really couldn’t.
You listened to him, to his commanding yet soft tone of order. Lifting yourself off of him and climbing onto the bed, leaning back on your elbows to watch him get up. He stood and peeled his shirt off, and your eyes drifted over him. Over the soft ridges and muscles that moved as he did. He crawled onto the bed, hovering over you before placing his lips back on yours.
You moaned into his mouth, needing more from him. He could tell, and he moved his kisses down to your jaw, then your neck. He decided not to leave any marks this time, he wanted you to be fully his when he did that. His hands slid up your thighs, underneath your skirt and he pulled away to look at you writhing underneath him.
“Think we need to make this even. Y’know cause you still have your shirt on and mine’s off.”
“Okay.” You nodded along, fully immersed in what he was saying and his voice and the soft dominance he provided. The comfort you felt with him. You sat up and took off your sweater, revealing the lacy bra you had underneath.
“Fuck. You always hiding stuff like this under your clothes, angel?”
“Only when we hang out.”
“It’s for me?”
“Uh huh.”
That was probably the best thing he’d ever heard. That you thought about him this way, and even wore underwear that was for him. Though, he thinks he’d think you were the most beautiful girl he’d ever seen no matter what you were in. So there’s that.
He continued to kiss his way down your neck, and even further without your sweater in the way. He placed pecks along your chest, over the swell of your breasts and down your stomach. His hands were running up and down your body, never settling in one place for too long. He looked up at you when his mouth was just above the waistband of your skirt.
“Can I take this off?”
“Please.” Your hips were swaying slightly, searching for any kind of relief.
He undid the zipper of your skirt and pushed himself up, giving himself room to pull it down and throw it to the floor. He spotted the wet spot on your underwear and groaned at the sight.
“You’re really wet. Can see it through your clothes, angel. Who’s that for, huh?” His hand was pressed over you now, fingers pushing against the wetness that had gathered on your underwear.
You whimpered at the slightest touch, “Steve, take them off, please.”
“Tell me what you want me to do.”
“Shit. Want your mouth.”
“I’ll give it to you, babe. Lay back and feel it.”
He slid your parties down slowly, almost painfully. He tossed them on the floor where the rest of your clothes were, then he took his time to admire you. You pushed your thighs together, feeling shy and exposed under his intense gaze. But, he pushed them back apart, tutting softly.
“You’re beautiful, y/n. Let me see you.”
You hid your face behind your hands, not used to getting compliments during moments like this. Once again, he used his hands to stop you from hiding, grabbing your wrists and pressing them into the bed next to your head. He was fully leaned over you, forcing you to look right at him.
“Stop hiding from me. I want you, too.” His voice was firm, convincing, but still kind with his words. He wanted to reassure you, to show you that he wasn’t what everyone thought he was. That he was good and he would be even better for you.
He stood up and took his jeans off, opting to let you see the hard outline of him through his boxers. He got back on the bed, kneeling with his legs on either side of yours. He grabbed one of your hands and pressed it against his underwear.
“You feel how hard I am? That’s because of you.”
You palmed him, moving your hand back and forth over his clothed cock and feeling the size, the hard weight of him.
“You’re so big, Steve.”
“Guess I should get you ready for me, huh?”
He slid down your body, until he was laying between your legs, face level with your cunt. He was so turned on right now, seeing how wet you were, how you were ready for him and how you put your trust in him. He’d never take this for granted.
“You’re soaked, angel.”
Then he dove in, licking you fully before focusing on your clit. You moaned as soon as his mouth made contact, hands flying into his hair and pulling on the strands. The action made him moan into you, and you felt it.
“Steve. Holy shit.”
You were grinding yourself against his face now, and he knew you needed more. So, he slid a finger down to your entrance, sliding it in easily and curling it to find the spot that felt best for you.
He pulled away from you to see your face, scrunched in pleasure, mouth parted to let out the most beautiful sounds he’d ever heard.
“Tell me what feels good, angel.”
Then he pushed in a second finger, curling it along with the first and when you gasped, he knew he’d found the spot. He worked hard to continue to hit that spot.
“Right there, Steve. Oh my god.”
“Gonna come for me?”
“Yes, yes. Please don’t stop.”
He didn’t, instead, he moved his face back down to suck at your clit, drawing your orgasm out of you. He knew you were there when you arched your back, body tensing and cunt fluttering around his fingers. He moved his face away again, but kept moving his fingers to help you come down.
“That’s it, angel. Good girl. I got you.”
You were a mess, moaning his name over and over and pulling his hair until you came down. You were breathing heavily, eyes lulling open to look down at Steve.
“Wow.”
“Good?”
“Amazing. Come here.”
You pulled him back to your mouth by his hair, kissing him and whimpering when you tasted yourself on his mouth, on his tongue. You moved your hands down to his boxers, pushing at the waistband to get them off, whining when he wouldn’t help you.
“Someone’s needy. Don’t worry, we’ll get there.”
“Steve. Take ‘em off.”
“Only if you take off your bra. It’s only fair.”
Instead of replying, you moved your hands to the clasp of your bra, undoing it and sliding it off all while looking into his eyes. When you threw your bra aside, his eyes wandered down to your tits.
“Absolutely gorgeous. Perfect.”
He started to cup your boobs in his hands, but you pulled them away, motioning towards his boxers.
“No touching until you take those off, Steve.”
“Bossy. You’re hot.”
Then he took off his underwear, cock bouncing out hard and red at the tip. You reached your hand down to jerk him off, swiping your thumb across the tip to gather the pre-cum there and bringing it to your mouth, humming at the taste of him.
“Can I fuck you, angel?”
“Yeah, please. I need it.”
He moved off of you to find his jeans on the floor, grabbing his wallet out of the pocket and finding the condom he kept there. Just in case. He watched you watching him as he slipped it on, eyes hungry and dark.
“Keeping a condom in your wallet, Steve? That’s presumptuous of you.”
“Yeah well, I was right, so you should be thanking me, really.”
“Idiot. Get over here.”
Once again, he was on the bed hovering over you, elbows holding him up on either side of your head, dipping down to kiss you. Languid and slow. You reached down and guided his cock along your folds, coating it in your wetness before pushing his tip into you. He took the hint and did the rest, grabbing your hands and pressing them into the bed with his.
He pushed in slowly, gently, giving you time to adjust and feel him. When he was almost fully in, when your brows pinched together at the burn of the stretch, he kissed you. Distracting you from the slight pain, pushing himself the rest of the way in. He stilled, giving you some time to adjust until you were squirming.
“Move, Steve. Please.”
He did as you asked, starting off slowly, building up his rhythm to let you get used to it. He was so attentive with his actions, so invested in making sure that you were okay and you didn’t know that sex could be like this. Could feel this good and this emotional.
“You feel so good, angel. So so good. Made for me.”
“All for you, baby.”
“Fuck.”
Then he sped up, moving so one of his arms was cradling your head, the other sliding down to press against your stomach, wanting to feel himself deep in you.
“Oh my fucking god. That’s so good.”
“Yeah? Can you feel me in your tummy, babe?”
“Yes, fuck.”
Your arms were wrapped around his neck now, a hand in his hair again and the other scratching against his back. He moaned at the spike of pain of your nails against his skin, knowing he’d have angry red marks from it but he didn’t care. In fact, he welcomed the reminder.
His head was buried in your neck, breaths and moans melting against your skin. “Fuck. You’re incredible.”
“I’m so close, Steve. Please.”
“Gonna give me another? I’ve got you.”
He moved the hand that was on your stomach down to your clit, rubbing circles to get you there. It worked, because you were squeezing him tight, like a fist. He came at the same time as you, pushing himself as deep as he could and moaning. Hips stilled and pushed tight against your pelvis. You whimpered, mouth agape as you finished.
Steve collapsed on top of you as you both came down. You were petting his hair, running your fingers through it softly, caressing. One of his hands was still holding your head, cradling it close to him, the other running up and down your side soothingly.
He rolled off of you and pulled out after a couple minutes, not wanting to fall asleep on top of you.
“I should go clean up,” your voice was quiet, raw from all the noises you’d made. You were so grateful your mom wasn’t home.
“Let me help you.”
“Okay.”
He got up first, then picked you up and carried you into your bathroom which was attached to your room, setting you on the toilet so you could pee. While you did, he grabbed a washcloth and ran it under the sink, disposing of the condom and cleaning himself off. When you were done and were washing your hands, he ran the washcloth between your legs, pressing a kiss on your bare shoulder when you whimpered because of how sensitive you were.
“I know, It’s okay. You did good, babe.”
“Thank you, Steve.”
Once your hands were dry, he picked you up again and placed you on your bed. Under the covers this time, and you cuddled up quickly, eyes falling shut. He Grabbed his boxers off the floor and slid them on. He walked back over to you and kissed your forehead.
“I should go before your mom gets home, but I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?”
“Mhm. Bye, Steve.”
“Bye, angel.”
He put on the rest of his clothes and when he turned to you to say bye again, you were fast asleep in the bed. He smiled softly at the sight and then left a small note on your table. Walking over to the door and closing it softly behind him.
The whole drive home all he thought about was you and what he was going to do. He decided he’d tell you everything tomorrow. He wouldn’t let it go too far. He didn’t let it go too far already, did he?
You woke up in the middle of the night, peeking at your alarm clock and groaning at what time it was. You got up to put your discarded clothes in your hamper, put on pyjamas, and brush your teeth. Once that was done, you peeked out your window to see if your mom was home. She wasn’t. You guessed it really was a late shift.
You saw the small note Steve left you then, sitting pretty on your bedside table.
‘I want to see you again, here’s my number! Call me whenever, and see you tomorrow -Steve <3’
The heart looked familiar, so did the handwriting, and the paper. No way.
No way.
You knew why you felt like you’d seen it all before. It was him, your secret admirer. He never told you and you just had sex with him. Holy shit.
You went back to your bed and stared at the ceiling, deciding that first thing tomorrow you’d confront him about it. You’d learn the truth and you’d see how he felt about you. If this was real or if it was just some stupid fantasy to him.
You fell asleep hours later, after overthinking yourself to exhaustion.
The next morning, once you got to school, you went straight to your locker, grabbing the stack of notes before walking back outside. You sat yourself on the bench by the parking lot, deciding you’d sit there and wait for Steve to arrive, even if it meant missing first period. You needed to talk to him, or you’d lose your mind.
Robin spotted you sitting there on her way in, walking over to you with a confused look on her face.
“What are you doing?”
“Waiting for Steve. I need to talk to him.”
She eyed the notes in your hands, connecting the dots, “oh my god. It’s him?”
“I’m pretty sure. We also had sex last night, so.”
“What? You’re joking.”
“Dead serious.”
“Okay. Good luck. I love you, tell me what happens.”
“Love you too, Robs.”
Then, she walked away, leaving you by yourself with your thoughts. You were so confused. Why would Steve decide to leave you anonymous notes? And why wouldn’t he tell you once you were partnered together? Most of all, did he actually like you?
It didn’t feel like long before you saw the BMW pull into its usual spot. Your leg was bouncing up and down, anxious and impatient to learn the full story.
Steve got out of his car and spotted you on the bench, furrowing his brows because he knew first period had already started. Did you skip just for him? He felt like he was missing something, but he was glad to have the opportunity to talk to you, so he walked over. He waved at you with a smile, happy to see you even if it was odd.
“Hi, babe! What are you doing out here?” He took a seat next to you, noticing your avoidance of his gaze and the seriousness of your face.
You held out the notes to him, “did you write these, Steve?”
Shit. He really didn’t want you finding out on your own, he wanted to tell you. “Um, yes. I wanted to tell you today, I swear!”
“Oh my god! Why wouldn’t you tell me before? We had sex, Steve, and you didn’t say anything.”
“I know! I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking about the notes then, I was thinking about you. I know this looks really bad but will you please let me explain?”
“I just want to know the truth, Steve. Was this some kind of game to you?” Your voice was small, and shaky, and when you looked up at Steve he watched a tear slip down your cheek. You wiped it away quickly, but he still saw it. It felt like a punch to his gut, he never wanted to make you upset.
“No! I promise. I really really like you, y/n. Like a huge amount. I have for a long time. I could tell you were shy and I thought you’d hate me if I talked to you without knowing you, especially because of how my stupid fucking friends treated you.”
You were really listening to what he was saying, trying your best to give him the benefit of the doubt because you really, really liked him too. You didn’t want it to be a game, but you were so scared that he wasn’t genuine.
“I haven’t hung out with them since we became partners, okay? I don’t want to ever again. I just want to be around you. I wrote those notes because I wanted you to know how I felt about you but I was too fucking scared to tell you it was me. I want to be with you. I want you to be my girlfriend and I don’t want to hide that anymore.”
He was saying all of the right things, everything you wanted to hear. The best part was, you could tell me meant it all, that he really did like you. You thought back to how the notes made you feel, to how much you enjoyed them and the butterflies they gave you.
You realized you weren’t even mad at him. No, you were just insecure and scared. But, you understood. You understood being nervous and scared. How could you fault him for that?
Steve was freaking out, he thought he was about to lose you and he only just got you. He wasn’t going to allow that. Not when you were the best thing that ever walked into his life, when you made him feel safe and secure and wanted.
“Please, please forgive me. Let me make it up to you, I’ll do anything. I really do like you.I’m falling in love with you, okay? I’ve never felt this way before and I don’t want to lose you so please-”
You kissed him, cutting off his nervous rambling so that he would just calm down. So he would know that he wasn’t going to lose you. Not now, not ever.
You pulled away, “Steve. It’s okay. I understand. I just wanted to know. I’m sorry I made you so scared. I’m falling in love with you, too. You know, I’ve had a crush on you for like, ever.”
His whole face lit up at your words, his relief evident in the atmosphere. “Really? So you forgive me?”
You grabbed his hand and held it tightly, giving him some comfort with your touch, “I wasn’t really angry, Steve. I was just scared. I forgive you, I did as soon as you opened your mouth.”
“So you’ll be my girlfriend? You wanna be with me?”
“Yeah, I want to be with you. That okay?”
“Perfect. You’re perfect.”
“We kinda owe Mrs. Johnson for putting us together, don’t we?”
“Like I said, we make a great team.”
You really did, and you felt it now more than ever. Even though people would talk and you’d inevitably fight, you knew you’d get through it with Steve by your side. Everything came together on that bench, like your entire lives lead up to that exact point in time. Because you didn’t know how it could get any better.

This is TOO adorable 🥰
let the kisses linger
word count: 3.3k summary: Steve Harrington is not your boyfriend, not yet. So far you’ve had a couple sweet kisses and an infuriating amount of dates spent with him making you nervous. Now, you just want to kiss him like you mean it, more than a peck, and maybe ask him to be your boyfriend while you do it. Steve beats you to it, on both counts. [cheeky tiny makeout + gn!reader (but r is mentioned to wear a bikini) + first relationship!reader]
Tumblr media
It starts with a touch.
You’ve come to learn it always does with Steve. Fingers skirting along any bare skin he can find, drawing a line on your waist when just a sliver is exposed. Along the ridge of your neck, curling his hand to rest against your shoulder. His fingertips tease at your neck, feather-soft touches that can make you shiver if you’re not expecting it.
You think he does it just to see the goosebumps that trail in the wake of his touch. From the way he always grins, like the cat that got the cream, you’re probably right.
Steve can’t help it. You’re so responsive.
Maybe it’s because it’s new, this thing between you and Steve — you’ve been on a couple dates together after a string of painfully obvious flirtations over the Family Video counter that Robin had been forced to witness. You’ve just not quite sealed the deal yet.
However, even though Steve’s had more girlfriends than he can count on one hand, this part? Never gets old.
The electricity. The dance, the build-up; getting to see how you react when you’re not quite expecting him to be as close and touchy as he is.

IT’S HIS LOSS | b.bradshaw
Tumblr media
pairing: bradley "rooster' bradshaw x roommate!reader
summary: after finding out your ex-boyfriend is now engaged, your day isn’t looking too great and you don't think it’s going to get much better, but your roommate Bradley has some other ideas
warnings: pure tooth-rotting fluff, reader being oblivious, rooster being whipped for his roommate
a/n: this is based on a couple tiktoks I saw recently, which wouldn't leave my brain so i wrote this
word count: idk
main masterlist
The soft scenes of your favorite tv show and the faint sounds of laughter coming through the open window are the only noises permeating the calm of your living room as you sit relaxing after your long day of grading tests and helping a few of your students with their projects. You had collapsed onto the couch the moment you got home, having just enough energy to kick your shoes off by the front door, but not enough to put them in their proper place, which you know will irk you later. But right now you can’t seem to find it in you to care, curling in between the pillows your roommate Bradley had insisted on buying for you for your birthday last month.
Breathing out a deep sigh, you wriggle your shoulders further into the cushions and reach for your phone, opening your social media apps for the first time since you woke up earlier. You scroll past the first few posts quickly, nothing of note catching your interest.
Just as you're getting ready to click off, planning on maybe taking a nap or something before Bradley gets back to the house and you two inevitably end up going out to the Hard Deck with your friends, your eyes catch on a familiar username, and you pause, thumb hovering over the screen for a moment, unsure whether or not to click.
Eventually, your curiosity gets the better of you and you click onto your ex-boyfriend's profile. You can't even count the number of times you had clicked on Eric's profile in the month since he had left you broken-hearted by running off into the arms of another woman, so you see the instant you click that he's finally posted a new picture. He hadn't posted since the breakup, and once again, your curiosity causes you to open the new post.
The picture shows Eric with his arms around a woman, smiling as she laughs and holds her left hand out to the camera, a sparkling ring resting on her finger.
she said yes! the caption reads, with a little ring and heart emoji, taunting you as you stare in shock at the picture.
A month.
One month, and he's already engaged to another woman.
God, you feel so stupid! You don't fall in love with someone enough to put a ring on it in one month. All the little things, things that should have been signs of infidelity in those last few months of your relationship with Eric start to pop into your thoughts, making you feel like the biggest idiot in the world. How could you have missed them?
Your heart aching, and thoughts of self-doubt swirling through your brain, you click off the app, turn your phone off and hurl it to the other couch, watching it flop facedown onto the cushions.
Grumbling to yourself about stupidity, you heave yourself off of the couch and head into the kitchen, returning moments later with a glass and a bottle of chardonnay, as well as a large blanket straight out of the dryer, still warm as you settle in for an evening of moping.
✯✯✯✯
Bagman: Hey, y'all coming to Hard Deck 2nite?
Bradley: Sure, give us like an hour, i'll get y/n on board and we'll head over
Bagman: cool, c u then
Grinning slightly at Jake's complete laziness with typing, Bradley pulls his car into the last empty space on the street, just a couple of houses down from your shared house. Grabbing the bag of takeout from your favorite Italian place in town from the passenger seat, he swings himself out of the truck and makes his way down the sidewalk, thinking up ways to get you to come with him for the evening.
Kicking his boots off on the porch, per your request a few months earlier after the 5th patch of dirt found it’s way into the foyer, Bradley scoops them up in his free hand, twisting the door handle and pushing into the foyer.
The first indication that something is off is the pair of bright white sneakers strewn in the middle of the entry hallway. In the 2 years you and Bradley had been roommates, he had only ever seen shoes off of the rack on two occasions.
Shit!
The second indication of something being wrong comes blaring from the living room, as Bradley drops his boots into their designated tray, and hangs his bag on its hook. He can just make out your voice singing along over the Taylor Swift song blaring through the houses speakers.
So I’ll watch your life in pictures, like I used to watch you sleep…
Tentatively, Bradley eases his way down the hall, careful not to startle you with any loud noises, and moves into the doorway just in time to see you raising your very full wine glass to your lips, taking a full gulp, as you stand on the sofa in the darkened living room.
You look up when Bradley shifts, and send him the most pathetic smile you can dredge up in the moment, unknowingly breaking your best friend/roommates heart at your expression.
“Alright, what have I walked into here?” Bradley jokes, wanting to wipe the sorrowful expression from your eyes as quick as possible. You start to giggle, spurring him on.
“I feel like, the music’s on, the wine’s out, we’ve got mood lighting, and I’ve got a bowl of carbonara with our names on it. Okay, we’re having sex on the sofa.”
You burst out laughing, thumping yourself back down into the cushions as Last Kiss continues playing, and Bradley smiles, a little tightly, glad he’s managed to get you laughing, even though your blatant laughter at the implication of sex with him stings a little more than it should.
After you’ve laughed for a good 45 seconds, you calm down enough to pause and take in Bradley, who’s still standing in the doorway.
“Brad? Are you ok?” You ask, watching his tight smile drop slightly.
“Yeah. Yeah, I’m fine.” He says, perking up a little to quickly to be true but you don’t want to push him.
“You stay there, and I’ll go grab some utensils for this bad boy,” he says, patting the bag and turning to head into the kitchen, calling over his shoulder, “and then you can tell me why we’re having a Ms Swift day, today!”
A muffled “okay” sounds from the mound of pillows and blankets on the sofa you’re currently lying under, and Bradley chuckles to himself as he pulls forks and spoons from a drawer, grabbing a beer from the fridge before shooting Hangman a text to let him know that you both won’t be going out and heading back into the living room.
✯✯✯✯
One and a half runs of Tangled later, the empty takeout boxes lay scattered on the coffee table and Bradley has joined you in the cocoon of pillows and blankets, polishing off his second can of beer as you lay on the council together. You had explained everything to him over dinner, and then the two of you had gotten comfortable to watch some television.
You’re fiddling with a strand on the edge of one of your blankets when Bradley speaks.
“You know it’s his loss right?”
You glance over at him, eyes sweeping his face as he gazes right back at you, looking the tiniest bit shell shocked that he had spoken.
“What?”
“It’s his loss, that he’s not with you anymore. If I had you, I wouldn’t lose you.”
The old butterflies you had worked so hard to tame take flight in your stomach once again at the look Bradley is giving you, the tenderness in his eyes igniting a yearning that you thought you had gotten under control.
“Oh come on, I’m not that special.” You try to brush off, truly believing the words, the scars of Eric’s betrayal still stinging you.
Bradley doesn’t look pleased with the way you casually call yourself un-special. He sits up abruptly, reaching under the blankets til he finds your legs, and uses them to swing you around to that you’re facing him. His warm roughened hands cup your bare knees, and you barely manage to contain the shiver that runs over your skin at the contact.
“You’re not that special?” He asks, voice incredulous, making sure your holding eye contact with him.
“First of all, you’re the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen.” Your heart gives a dangerous thump at that comment, certain that your blushing and grateful that the only light in the room is coming from a few candles and the television screen.
“Second of all, you can make me laugh no matter what situation I’m in.” Bradley’s thumb starts rubbing gently over the space where your upper leg meets your lower leg, and your brain short circuits for a moment. A gentle squeeze to the other knee has you snapping back to attention, seeing Bradley smirking gently at you, still so tender it’s making your heart sing.
“And third of all, do you know how happy it makes me to know that you are the last person I get to see every single night before I go to bed, and the first person I see when I wake up in the morning? If I lost that I… I don’t think I’d survive….”
When Bradley finishes his mini rant, eyes still locked on yours and thumbs tracing little patterns on your skin, you can’t help but stare at him for a few moments, trying to grapple with the overwhelming sense of love for your best friend consuming you at this moment.
When you had first moved in with Bradley, you had connected super fast, forming an almost instant friendship. But over the first year, your platonic love for him had grown and transformed into something much deeper. Terrified of ruining your friendship, you had kept your feelings to yourself, and when Eric had come along, you had seen it as the perfect time to try and get your crush on your roommate under control.
You realize now that all you had managed to do was to pretend like the butterflies weren’t there whenever he walked into the room, or called you ‘pookie’ playfully ever since you’d watched Rent together. A quick rush of air leaves your lips and your head shakes slightly to the side as you take him in on the couch in front of you.
“What?” Bradley asks, fearing that he went to far and scared you off, “what is it?”
“Would it …” you can’t quite seem to dig up the courage to say what’s on your mind, letting your eyes drop from his down to land on his lips, “would it be really bad if I told you I wanted you to kiss me right now.”
The question leaves you in a whispered rush, and you still can’t bring your gaze up to meet his, fingers twisting into the blanket on your lap anxiously.
“Only if I didn’t want to kiss you back.”
Bradley’s confession is whispered, so low you’re not even sure if he actually said it.
“Do you?” You breathe, eyes trained downwards, muscles taught, nervous.
You’ve closed your eyes, so you don’t see Bradley’s hand come up until his thumb and forefinger are cupping your chin, tilting your head up to meet his eyes.
“I’d rather just show you,” he breathes, and then he’s leaning towards you and your eyes are falling shut once more.
When his lips brush over yours, soft at first and then with a little more urgency, something inside you feels like it clicks into place. You sigh into the kiss and open your mouth, allowing Bradley access. He responds and threads his hand through the hair at the nape of your neck, pulling you impossibly closer to deepen the embrace.
The two of you kiss and kiss, until you both run out of air and have to resurface for a moment. Bradley grins, and rests his forehead against yours, wrapping his arms around your lower back. You’ve ended up in his lap, and you snuggle deeper into his hold as his fingers slide through your hair.
“This is nice,” you whisper into his neck, all the heartache from earlier seeming to vanish for the night.
Bradley chuckles lightly and you feel his head clean to rest on the top of yours as he shuffles the two of you deeper into the pillow pile.
“Yeah, baby, this is nice.”
The last thing you feel as your body loses its battle against sleep, is the soft brush of Bradleys lips on your forehead and his fingers carding through you hair as sleep takes over.
