“Huh?” Yuelan two eyebrows crinkled together like an instant ramen wrapper.

“You know, Vinh and Khai. You’ve asked them already, right?”

“Why would I have—”

“Asked us what?” Vinh bounded up and jumped, twisting midair into a clean axel before hopping backwards to land neatly on the bench beside Zhang Yi.

“Showoff,” Yuelan scoffed. Louder, she continued, “I was talking to Yi about a Lunar New Year get together.”

“Yeah, can you come?” Yi asked. “Saturday at 2pm.”

“If you’re asking, I’ll be there,” Vinh batted his lashes coquettishly.

“Don’t do that, you look like you’ve got something in your eye.” Khai propped one hip against the barrier, having just stepped into the rink. “I can do Saturday.”

“I wasn’t asking either of you—grahh!” Yuelan shoved herself onto the bench on Zhang Yi’s other side and draped herself onto their body.

“Ah, I didn’t mean to—I’m sorry for messing things up!”

“No it’s okay,” Yuelan sighed. “They probably would have shown up anyhow.”

“Damn right,” Khai muttered.

Little Birdy Pampering Manual (小肥啾宠爱手册) by 未未不知眠 (story from the perspective of a cute little magical birdy who decides he'll become his new daddies' child! lots of fluff)

My Crush Picked Up My Diary (暗恋对象捡到我的日记本) by 落回 (the MC writes a little diary about his crush, and his crush picks it up..!!!!! the MC is so cute hahaha, and I like the contrast with the kind and indulgent ML~)

The Transmigrator’s Family Has a Son-in-Law (穿越之家有赘婿) by 北风吹 (the MC is a transmigrator, and I like his warm and generous personality, and his straight-forward nature, accepting that he likes looking at good looking people XD)

What does 'weird' mean? For These Side Characters, research has included:

the life experiences and attitudes of antis and ex-antis

lightning and electrocution injuries

banquet foods of countries including China, France, Italy and the Britain

obscure colour names

how to grow microgreens and how to grow mushrooms

Personally: draft fast and edit later (I know, I know, I dislike editing); don't go back and re-write old stories, just move on (I have too many ideas, too little time); and done (a completed story) is better than an incomplete story.

Otherwise...life hack is to use a to do list manager and a calendar 😆

To be fair, I like stories with hard-working MCs. Is there a genre called "toxic productivity BL"? 🤔🤣

Justifications for scale placement:

Ren Xiyang - toxic productivity outlier. Likes working more than spending time with his boyfriend

Rian Azure - also very productive but his possessiveness/adoration levels for Ren Xiyang stop him from being too productive

Khai - he has classes by day and does free healing by night

Robin Quan - small business owner, has to be very productive

Oliver Campbell - in the music industry so he probably also has to be very productive, though clearly he has enough time to visit Robin's shop during the day!

Kai - gotta work in this economy

Khanh - relaxed enough to make a lot of good food!
