The details of the whole case are just depressing as fuck, and show how quickly people will jump on an emotionally-satisfying bandwagon, with any attempt to sort through the evidence coming later. Any chance to engage in emotive thinking and toss aside nuance to settle things quickly is a good enough excuse for them to do it.

Her private journal is treated as ironclad proof (indeed the court of editorial journalism treated it was the cornerstone of the case) of her guilt, despite those exact thoughts and sentiments being extremely common in medical professionals. The great chariot of medicine rolls forward on two wheels: "I'm a sinner and any patient who the system fails is my own fault, no matter how stacked the deck" and "I'm a god on earth and anyone who my care fails was doomed anyway because I can do no wrong". The office politics of this case really feel like a bunch of NHS parasite Type 2s rallying to kick the shit out of an overworked and emotionally dysfunctional Type 1.

For further despair, the number of comments from the twitter thread of the New Yorker article that amounted to Brits saying "I don't need to read this rubbish*, I remember it when it happened and she's guilty" would drive anyone over the damn edge. Actual parody-of-human-indecency clown culture across the pond.

*Bonus round: The article is inaccessible in the UK due to it being an ongoing case thus a lot of those dissidents couldn't even read the article before dismissing it out-of-hand!
