GREAT LEGACY
Peace Documentary Premiere in Melbourne
Tumblr media
The documentary, produced by SMV Media group and Heavenly Culture World Peace Restoration of Light (HWPL), a non-governmental organisation advocating for global peace affiliated with the UNDGC and ECOSOC, highlighted the collaborations for peace on the island of Mindanao, Philippines. For over 40 years, Mindanao was the location of one of the world’s long-term conflicts, resulting in over 120,000 deaths and millions displaced since the 1960s. However, on 24 January 2014, Chairman Lee of HWPL was able to mediate a peaceful resolution to the local religious conflict between the Muslims and Catholics.
Tumblr media
The premiere indeed was a huge success, igniting hope in the hearts of organisation representatives that world peace is truly possible. A youth member from United Muslim Migrants Australia (UMMA) has said, “Peace and harmony can only be achieved through dialogue and open spaces of discussion to understand why someone holds a particular opinion. Please support these efforts of work, to ensure we can achieve peace”.
Dot Haynes, a former councillor of Manningham City said, “To Chairman Lee, not only thank you and my prayers are with you and all your work. I want you to be continually encouraged to know, whatever you do till the end, (it) will definitely grow. I’ve always wanted to do a peace monument, and it’s going to definitely encourage me to continue this work. “
The chairman of HWPL, Lee Man-hee emphasised, “Let’s all become messengers of peace and leave peace as a legacy for future generations.”

An International NGO Sends Anti-war Statement to 192 Countries to Restore Peace in Ukraine
Many parts of the global society is reacting to Russia's military invasion of Ukraine by denouncing Russian President Putin's decision of devastating attack and occupation of the Ukraine territory.
Tumblr media
In his presidency, Putin used the military power to invade and control foreign territory including South Ossetia, Crimea of Ukraine, and now parts of the north, east and south of Ukraine, which all challenged the global security and stability.
On 28th, Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), a South Korea-based international NGO affiliated with the UN ECOSOC and Seoul Metropolitan Government, made a statement to advocate a global cooperation for peace.
Titled “Statement by Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) Regarding Russia and Ukraine”, it demands that Russia withdraw all military to its own territory, international community protect and accommodate refugees, and global youth unite for an anti-war movement and peace.
“Military aggression against a sovereign state cannot be a solution to any problem, and the perils of such war and violent conflict hit innocent citizens the hardest, including women, the youth, and children. … Russia must withdraw its forces back to its country … (and we) request all nations to demonstrate their love for humanity by offering help to refugees.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HWPL has been seeking to construct a global network for peace by building solidarity among leaders and representatives from the field of politics, religion, youth, women and media in the world. Written by 580,000 citizens worldwide, HWPL in 2018 sent out "peace letters" urging the heads of states of 192 countries to demand their participation in cooperation for peace.
On February 26th, the White House announced through a statement that the European Commission, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States will cooperate to execute an economic sanction to exclude Russia from the international financial system by removing selected Russian banks from the SWIFT.
Ukrainian forces are currently resisting against the Russian military with effective defence, and anti-war protests and voices in support of Ukraine through social media become more widespread throughout the world.

Tumblr media
On September 18th, 2021, the 7th Anniversary of the September 18th HWPL World Peace Summit was held online. This year's event dealt with the progress of international efforts and the plans to promote the peace agenda in the 'New Normal' era shifting from the post-Covid to the with-Covid.
The organizer of the event, Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), has been conducting citizen-centered peacebuilding activities to create "a culture of peace" advocated by the UN and international community to set up an environment of peaceful coexistence since the World Peace Summit in 2014.
This event presented the concerted action for sustainable peace with cases from various sectors such as international law, religion, education, and the media. Also, it addressed international cooperation to overcome the current crisis that threatens the coexistence and harmony of mankind, which has come to the fore during the pandemic.
Peacebuilding efforts led by HWPL to establish legal foundations and international norms for peace through connecting global actors are embodied with its effort to advocate the international law for peace by drafting the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW).
"The DPCW Handbook enables us to systematically teach international law and the essence of peace to these students and others. It enables them to become lecturers in the following course," said Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Chief Advisor of Asian Association of Law Professors (AALP) as well as Former Chair of National Human Rights Commission, Bangladesh (NHRC-BD), highlighting the need to encourage public discourse on peacebuilding by academia.
In addition to the basic principles of peace assigned to nations to uphold, the DPCW has presented principles that should be dealt with in the present era, such as prohibiting the use of force, fostering religious freedom, and civic participation to spread a culture of peace. In particular, it states that efforts for peace come from all members of the global society by identifying not only nation-states but also international organizations and all citizens as the main actors of building peace.
Tumblr media
Dr Rosala Arteaga Serranno, Republic of Ecuador 39th President

This is why we need to encourage children, the youth, and adults to prevent verbal abuse and work towards reducing inequalities and eradicating disparities to achieve a more equitable, stable, and peaceful world," said Former President of Ecuador, Dr. Rosalia Arteaga Serrano.
Tumblr media
Hon. Octavia Alfred, Minister of Education, Commonwealth of Dominica

Tumblr media
Chairman Man Hee Lee of HWPL, Calling for Concerted Action to Build a Peaceful World

HWPL Civilian Peace Agreement Creates an Atmosphere of Peace in Mindanao
“Land of Changes”  - After the Civilian Peace Agreement in Mindanao
On 24 January 2014, Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) gave testament to their sincerity in peace work through mediating the Mindanao peace agreement. Today, even after the pivotal agreement, HWPL continues to strive for sustainable peace through peace education and peace cultural activities. This article will cover the course of HWPL’s civilian peace agreement and its aftermath.
Since the peace agreement in 2014, a culture of peace has been fostered in Mindanao, Philippines, a land that has been torn by severe armed conflict for decades. The peace agreement that was signed on 24 January was civilian led, raising awareness for peace among the residents and kickstarting the progression of a peace agreement between the government of the Philippines and the local Moro people.
HWPL and Peace in Mindanao
Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) has held various events and activities in the Philippines since June 2013, including bringing relief for the slums, holding conversations with religious leaders for interfaith harmony, and establishing a youth network for peace. In light of these efforts, the head of HWPL Chairman Lee Man-hee was invited to Mindanao by H.E. Antonio J. Ledesma, Archbishop of Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro, to facilitate the local religious conflict between the Muslims and Catholics.
Tumblr media
HWPL Chairman Lee Man-hee (right) and H.E. Antonio J. Ledesma, Archbishop of Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro (left), shake hands during Chairman Lee’s visit to the Philippines in September 2013.
At the time, Mindanao was a war zone rife with gunfire. It was not an easy decision for Chairman Lee Man-hee, an 84-year-old man, to risk his life entering a region of armed conflict. However, Chairman Lee thought to himself, “I cannot deny this request when I was asked to come for peace as a peace activist,” and agreed to travel to Mindanao despite the circumstances and risks.
Chairman Lee hosted the first peace walk in January 2014 in Mindanao, General Santos, Philippines. Over 1,000 people, including believers from both Islam and Catholicism, students from the Mindanao State University, and members of the International Peace Youth Group, participated. After the peace walk, Chairman Lee spoke about the necessity of peace to Catholic and Muslim leaders, youth groups, and university professors at a hotel in General Santos.
“God’s will is peace, not war,” Chairman Lee emphasized. He then asked the attendees, “Do you want peace, or do you want war?” and had them raise their hand if they wanted peace. When all the attendees raised their hand, Chairman Lee called the Catholic and Islamic representatives to the stage saying, “Then sign the peace agreement.”
Tumblr media
On that very day, H.E. Fernado Robles Capalla, D.D, Archbishop Emeritus of Archdiocese of Davao, and Esmael G. Mangudadatu, Governor of Maguindanao, signed an agreement for the start of peace and the cessation of war as the respective representatives of Catholicism and Islam.
The Mindanao peace agreement mediated by HWPL proposed a “civilian-centered” approach to promote peace. In line with this approach, HWPL has furthered peace activities across the Philippines, including Mindanao, to raise public awareness on the universal principles of peace — mutual understanding, respect, and harmony. Currently, HWPL is also carrying out peace initiatives centered around civil society, including education, religion, youth, and women, in order to eliminate factors that cause conflict and to strengthen the core values for peaceful and sustainable development.

Virtual Conference to Introduce Peace Activities Led by Global Citizens in the Pandemic Era
Tumblr media
On May 25, 2021, HWPL held its 8th Annual Commemoration of the Declaration of World Peace online, with 3,000 people from 150 countries around the world in attendance. HWPL, an international peace NGO, stands for Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light. Since its founding in 2013, in association with its affiliated groups, International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) and International Women’s Peace Group, HWPL has been working towards implementing practical measures to achieve world peace and cessation of war.
With several cases of international partnership in peacebuilding projects endorsed by youth and women organizations categorized by each region – Africa, Europe, and Asia, this year’s event aimed to discuss a citizen-led peace movement and cooperation to promote coexistence and harmony in the global community, and to overcome global challenges that stem from hatred, conflicts, misunderstanding, and lack of communication in this current pandemic era.
Tumblr media
The event commemorated the Declaration of World Peace, proclaimed on May 25thin 2013, which involves not only the cooperation of each state in establishing international laws for peace and the role of the media in sharing information about peace, but also the active peace movement of youth and women who seek to transform themselves from the greatest victims of war to the greatest actors for peace.
From HWPL’s peace initiative, for the past eight years millions of global citizens have participated in promoting locally adapted peace projects, including education, relief, and forums to offer public policies, in order to meet the needs of the community and create a favourable environment for peace.
In cooperation with IWPG, Chairwoman Pascale Isho Warda of Hammurabi Human Rights Organization (HHRO) in Iraq, who was appointed as Minister of Migration and Displacement by the UN from 2004 to 2005, introduced a legislation project of law that prevents violence against women and children.
Regarding the importance of peace activities through education, she said, “We need to learn the mechanism of guiding everyone to become tools of peace, which accumulates from daily life and sometimes throughout the simplest matters of life, starting with personal peace with oneself, within the family, and with others.”
Ven. Ashin Htavara, General Secretary of All Burmese Monks Representative Committee in Norway, who went through the Saffron Revolution in 2007, stated that 3 HWPL Peace Libraries were established in Payapon, Myanmar and that a fourth library is currently being prepared.
“There are too few libraries for children in Myanmar. I wanted to give hope to these little children. In the future, the library will conduct peace education, peace activities, and peace campaigns, and we will do everything that can help achieve peace,” he said.
The event also advocated global participation in peace activities, such as the peace tree planting campaign that began in Ukraine with 1,000 participants from 21 countries, and peace policy proposal dialogue between citizens and policy experts in Mali where the recent coup triggered social unrest.
Tumblr media
“It is we in this day who have to do all the necessary things to make peace and prevent our globe from being destroyed. War does not end with words, but it comes to an end with our practical actions. I believe that this can be achieved since no one in our global village is not willing to see peace,” highlighted Chairman Lee of HWPL. Citizens in the Pandemic Era

South Korea-based International NGO Urges a Forum for Peace Talks in Myanmar
HWPL, an international NGO under the United Nations ECOSOC based in South Korea, issued a statement expressing deep concern about the crisis of human rights caused by the recent military coup and mass protests in Myanmar. They are calling for the international community to work together to support a peaceful approach in resolving the conflict.
In the “HWPL Statement on Human Rights Crisis in Myanmar”, the organization urged the International community to express their support for conflict resolution through the channel of dialogue between the military and civil society activists.
The statement said hundreds of deaths and injuries were caused by “the recent efforts of the Myanmar military to suppress nonviolent protests”. It highlighted that “no conflict of interest can justify violence against civilians, and no interest of any group can prevail over human life.”
HWPL asked all parties in Myanmar to “resolve the crisis through consensus based on mutual respect and understanding” and “engage in dialogue to seek a peaceful resolution.” HWPL also asked people around the world to “issue statements urging authorities and civilians in Myanmar to pursue dialogue and seek a peaceful solution in order to restore peace to the country.”
“The number of deaths from protests have exceeded 200 and more than 2,000 people have been arrested by the military.” Kasauh Mon, President of Mon News Agency, a Myanmar-based journalist, said in a statement. “We are very pleased with HWPL and the Korean people’s support for our democracy and peace movement. We ask the international community to call for the end of the military regime, and to stop their brutality against peaceful demonstrators,” he said.
For the past five years, this international civil society advocacy for peacebuilding led by HWPL has shown support and initiatives at the national and international levels. The organization has collected over 730,000 letters written by citizens in 176 countries to encourage peace development in each country, expressing support and participation by governments and social leaders.
