You know, when I see fictional characters who repress all their emotions, they're usually aloof and very blunt about keeping people at a distance, sometimes to an edgy degree—but what I don't see nearly enough are the emotionally repressed characters who are just…mellow.

Think about it. In real life, the person that's bottling up all their emotions is not the one that's brooding in the corner and snaps at you for trying to befriend them. More often than not, it's that friendly person in your circle who makes easy conversation with you, laughs with you, and listens and gives advice whenever you're upset. But you never see them upset, in fact they seem to have endless patience for you and everything around them—and so you call them their friend, you trust them. And only after months of telling them all your secrets do you realize…

…they've never actually told you anything about themselves.

For those who don't know what my question drive is:

To encourage people to talk more about their WoL/FFXIV OC(s), I come to your blog after you have liked/reblogged this post and send you a question about your OC(s). Sometimes these can be deep, world-building questions... other times I’ll ask what they had for breakfast. It’s all a bit of fun, I reblog the questions back here, and it lets me meet and learn more about various characters! If you don’t want a question but want to still support the project, just note that in the tags. :)

Make tea in the early mornings and sip it by the window. Read a book of poetry. Wait for sunlight to crest over the mountains. Pursue knowledge, voraciously. Study history, alchemy, magical theory, anything, everything. Garden. Host small gatherings, with wine and fresh lemon cake. Walk the scenic route through the neighborhood. Collect the post. Send off letters, to every corner of the world. Curl toward the empty space in the bed. Say goodbye to those who are gone. Keep going. Time is a gift few are lucky enough to receive.

I think being an orphaned hero is probably the biggest trope Aramond falls into. I'm not certain what the TV Trope entry would be exactly, but he's also definitely guilty of that "learns dark magic trying to save/resurrect a loved one" thing. That's gotta be something.

Bitter. Aramond is a black coffee, dark chocolate, black licorice kind of guy. Second to that, he prefers savory foods. The kind of heavy beef and vegetable stew that's popular in Ishgard is one of his favorite meals.

Aramond didn't learn to read until he was 14-15 and he is compensating for that to this day. He reads anything and everything, voraciously. His house is filled with books. He likes to believe he enjoys the academic stuff the most -- historical accounts, dissertations on magic, alchemical research papers -- if only because he started reading because he had something to prove. He's still learning to read for pleasure. His guilty favorites are escapist fantasies. Adventure books about daring heroes and whirlwind romances never fail to pull him in despite himself. He's enough of a romantic and so prone to speaking figuratively himself that I think he'd also enjoy flowery poetry. If you heard that he's written any though, shhh, no you didn't.

Aramond holds onto grief like it's his job. He has little to no healthy coping mechanisms for loss, despite having experienced so much of it throughout his life. I wish he were not this way. It would save him so much pain. That said, he also draws a lot of his strength from it. His grief is kind of a core part of him. It's an old friend. Is coexisting with your grief the same as coping? I hope so, because that's as close as he can get for now.
