idk if it’s just me but eddie is feeling very weird and ooc this season, specially in 7x05. he also did in 7x04, but we thought that it was because we were viewing the ep from buck’s perspective.

i think tim minear is taking eddie’s personality in a different turn from the past seasons that we’ve known and it may even feel like we don’t know him at some points (like this whole marisol arc – which has been nothing but weird to me –, or the fact that he is bluntly talking about his sex life in a very uncomfortable amount, something he never did before), but i think the nun thing specifically bringing out his catholic guilt is maybe a way of tim introducing the context of why it’s so difficult for eddie and different from buck’s experience to first realize he’s bi/gay and then to come out? because of all the lifetime worth of internalized homophobia?

that for me is the only explanation for why that nun arc took so much screen time in this ep and so much space inside eddie’s head, otherwise it’s just weird because why focus that much on a character that is already confirmed to be written off the show after 7x07?

this is how i imagine a gay storyline being written

director: so, i called this meeting because, as you all know, our views are dropping

staff: yeah / that sucks

director: we did fine at the first two seasons, but now people are asking for an “lgb”- whatever representation

staff: what?

director: apparently, the world likes gay people now – or at least twitter does. don’t know how that happened

dave: so... that means gay characters?

director: woah, easy there dave, gay character. singular. we’re only allowed to have one.

rebecca: is there any specifications on casting?

director: well, obviously, male, white, attractive, but the actor doesn’t have to actually be gay, you know? it’s better if he’s straight, we don’t want to make the rest of the guys in our cast awkward, right?

rebecca: and what’s his plot?

director: plot? sweetie, he’s gay. that’s the plot. what else do you need?

rebecca: i mean, he’s gotta have a background, right? he’s swiping in in the middle of the third se-

director: okay, i see. let’s say he, uhm... transferred because he suffered bullying in his old school. because he’s gay.

rebecca: that’s... it?

director: seems pretty accurate to me.

rebecca: but which characters is he gonna hang around?

director: well, rebecca, girls, duh. not the main ones tho. he can hang with... that black girl, what’s her name again?

dave: alyssa.

director: yes, that one. who are her friends?

dave: she... doesn’t have any.

director: perfect! they can have their own little group. and we don’t have to keep him for long you know? he’s obviously not gonna be a main character, maybe... he gets beaten up by some jocks and transfers again in season four?

dave: isn’t that gonna make people on twitter mad?

director: oh, dave, it’s reality. gay people suffer. we’re basically making a statement.

rebecca: and what are his interests?

director: how the hell should i know? gay stuff! britney spears, theatre, i don’t know. that’s your job, rebecca.

director: so... i think we’re done!thank you all for today. let me know when you find our guy. bye!

How ODDAT portrays teenagers/teenage relationships

- they aren’t overtly sexualized, dress their age, and act the ways most normal teenagers act

- their relationship does involve sex- but any mention of it is about issues of consent and understanding healthy relationships. Also, no overly sexual aspects of their relationship is showed on screen BECAUSE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE CHILDREN

Now for Riverdale characters who are THE EXACT SAME AGE as Elena and Syd

- promotes unrealistic body standereds

- overly sexulizes characters who are under 18

- shows teenage sex on screen involving strip teases for grown ass men, pedophilia (in the first damn episode), and BDSM elements

Essentially- Elena ans Syd were made for teens to relate to and to see themselves in. Like all aspects of ODAAT the teenaged characters are diverse, struggle with real problems, and represent realistic expectations for teenagers to look and act.

However, Riverdale is meant to sexualize teenage characters and fosters many harmful expectations in its young audience.

So, WHY is Riverdale being renewed again and ODAAT isn’t??
