Also selling this six point rack of whitetail deer antlers. They’re very nice and heavy! There is still a bit of dried hide attached to the skull cap. There is also a little bit of residue on the back of the skull cap from where leather was hot-glued to it at some point. $34, which includes shipping. Message me if you’re interested!

22) Do you have an Etsy shop or something similar?
Yes. I’ve been selling bone jewellery and other related items on Etsy since February of 2010. I started out selling strictly tarantula fang jewellery then branched out into other things. My shop is currently in vacation mode, but can be found…

quietmagpie replied to your post: quietmagpie replied to your post: Look...
These beetles like to overwinter in protected areas (indoors, in foundations, in tree hollows, etc). The chances of it surviving after having exited hibernation are very low, however. It may be more humane to put it in the freezer to euthanize it.
Okay thank you, that's what I was thinking. If I (hopefully) see him again I'll do that.

Uh-oh! This is one beetle you probably do not want to have around your house! It’s a red-legged ham beetle, they are notorious for eating leather and connective tissue. They can do serious damage to your collection (and kill dermestid colonies).
Aw man, thanks for letting me know! Not sure what I'm supposed to do with it though, it's still cold and snowy here - would putting it outside be okay? I actually have no idea where it is now though.

The skeletal remains of an 11 year old child suffered from congenital syphilis, transmitted through the placenta of his mother before he was even born.
The marks of this disease can been seen on arm and leg bones, which are disfigured from the disease. There was also severe destruction to the skull.
These remains were found in Spitalfields in East London.  Archaeologists believe this child died sometime between 1400 and 1539.

Musée Dupuytren, A Paris Museum Full of Medical Curiosities
The collection of medical museum, Musée Dupuytren, at Faculte de Medecine in Paris is full of thousands of anatomical curiosities, including wax models, creepy alcohol-preserved specimens (many of which are malformed), an amazing library and even medical wood carvings.
The museum was created in 1835 by Mathieu Orfila, often referred to as the “Father of Toxicology”, at the bequest of French anatomist and military surgeon, Baron Guillaume Dupuytren.
Art of Bleeding has posted a completely gory but utterly fascinating set of photos as has Joanna Ebenstein of Morbid Anatomy.
