bike week in bearville by the beach is the greatest challenge anyone can go through, if you work in the service industry. sadly today is my last day off until the following monday…if…I’m lucky. one day left of a “normal” shift before moving along to third shift aka “graveyard.” the joy.

I usually start with a thought and a comment, and this edition is dedicated to a cat named Jerry, who last Thursday, passed away. In his younger day, he was a boxer,and a true fan of the Baltimore Ravens (he named his service dog Raven), as well a good friend. He will be missed.

Some of the playoff games that I have been able to watch, there are numerous seats empty, and understandably, more than likely corporate. What a waste if no one is sitting there! Living in the bay area as long as I did, I saw the Raiders games be blacked out…

foreword: I was reading when I thought of this topic and title, this book was the Richard Ben Cramer tome on the great Joe DiMaggiao. What a book it was/is!

Essentially, in Joe’s eyes, if the game becomes no longer fun, the love is gone. And yet, the poetry and syncopation, the grace and body of the art of the game is so important, that without it, there is nothing.

Friday night: usually a date night for many, but tonight? It’s “sportsgasmic” (my new catchphrase!!) with three pivotal playoff games in the NBA, a pitching duel in the MLB, hockey’s first rounders playing to win, and anything else that comes to play on the TV! I’m already feeling a bit “cross-eyed and painless,” which of course is a Talking Heads reference.
