most heartbreaking part of the ending is that rosencrantz goes first. it's literally the first time in the entire play the two aren't on stage together, just one, so when guil calls rosencrantz's name and then his own because really they're two halves of a whole but nobody is there to respond... seeing that he is alone is the trigger for guildenstern to move on too ouughhh

i just think its so easy to distill guildenstern and rosencrantz as the smart one and the dumb one respectively, but neither of them have any clue what's going on, ros is a little slow at times but guil is the one actively trusting in the narrative where ros wants to leave even if that means no longer getting even what little information they have or perhaps even dying. the act 2 finale distills them for me do you understand do you know what I mean does this make sense rosencrantz wants to leave bc he cant conceptualize the cost and guildenstern wants to stay for the same reason
