A Condition Called Love Episode 4 Review - Why's He So Rude To Her Friends?
Hananoi’s biggest flaw is that he only cares about his girlfriend and no one else; he doesn’t even have any friends and refuses to make any. If he was a real person, that’d be a huge turn off for anyone. From a realistic stand point, I’m sure anyone with a male or a female partner would hate it if they were rude to their friends. However, this is fiction, so Hananoi gets away with his rudeness, which could be seen as that to some people’s eyes. I see it as one of his biggest flaws and I hope that it changes later on because if he keeps being rude to Hotaru’s friends and Hotaru doesn’t catch on that, then that’s bad writing (to me) because she is a character who wants everyone to get along because she’s thoughtful and rather mindful of others. She is respectful to her friends and to Hananoi, so I believe Hananoi should do the same if he wants to stay in a committed relationship with Hotaru. If anyone who reads the manga, can you tell me if Hananoi does become nicer to Keigo later on?
Tumblr media
It’s nice that Hotaru wants to get to know Hananoi a bit more hence why she chose to work at a bookstore because she knows Hananoi’s hobby is reading and she always sees him reading whenever he has time to himself. While Hananoi keeps waiting for her outside before work ends, she doesn’t seem to mind too much because she knows that Hananoi cherishes the time he spends with her. While being forthright is Hotaru’s strongest aspect, I do think that her biggest flaw is that she’s too mindful of others, mostly herself. When she told her story about how a friend played a prank on her by cutting her hair, she worded in a way that it was her fault for letting it happen. It feels like she’s gaslighting herself so that she doesn’t hold it against her friend and that it’s just her being socially awkward. It doesn’t seem like she’s not bad at understanding others’ feelings, it’s just that she believes herself to be after she hurt someone. She uses it as an excuse to herself in a way. It’s rather sad. Because no friend would play a prank on their friend by cutting their hair. That’s just straight up bullying.
If I had a nickel for every brown haired love rivals Ryohei Kimura plays, I’d have two nickels. It’s not a lot but it’s funny how it happened twice from My Happy Marriage as Arata to now Yao. Given that Yao was in Hotaru’s elementary school picture, he definitely was a reason why Hotaru had a falling out with her friend. I can sense it. My guess is that her blonde friend liked Yao but Yao liked Hotaru, so the girl got jealous and cut her hair out of jealousy. When Yao is formally introduced, I bet the whole incident will be told because Hotaru doesn’t deserve to be bullied just for being the person her ex-friend’s crush liked. Now, the question is, will he put that incident against her? I don’t like where this is going.
Also, is it just me or is the animation quality going down? I don’t know how new East Fish Studio is, but given that they cancelled the Ten Count movie and is flubbing with this rather popular shoujo manga adaptation, I do wonder what’s going on over there. Is it budget issue? Like, in some scenes, I see Hotaru’s eyes in different shapes. The shot below has it to where the right eye is rounder and the left is angular. Hananoi also looks a bit wonky in some shots. I know that not every animation studio is perfect and that animators in Japan are super overworked and underpaid. A part of me feels a bit relieved that they cancelled the Ten Count movie because if this is the sort of quality a super popular BL manga adaptation would receive, I’d rather not watch it; it doesn’t deserve this. Heck, this story deserves better if this keeps up!
I do wonder what next week will bring. Will Yao be in the picture or will that have wait? Will we see a glimpse of Hananoi’s childhood? I can’t wait. What are your thoughts on this episode?

Wind Breaker Episode 4 Review - Shishitoren Picks A Fight
This episode is mainly a buildup to the Bofurin vs Shishitoren confrontation. There better be good animation next week. I’m restless thinking about what sort of fights would transpire between the individual one-on-one matches.
Tumblr media
This episode is mainly showcasing what sort of person the top dog Umemiya is. He appears to be a goofball who is way too relaxed and likes gardening. Even Sakura was in disbelief at first. He doesn’t seem like he’d be good at fighting, but he’s one of those characters who is a lot scarier than he appears to be. In fact, Sakura gets chills when he feels Umemiya’s fighting aura behind him. I honestly like Umemiya a lot! He’s a goofball. I do love the contrast he has when he’s not confronting rival gangs. He’s like everyone’s big brother and I like that about him. He’s especially cheesy towards Kotoha, who is revealed to be his younger sister but they’re not related by blood. Given that he’s the strongest, I do hope his fighting skills will be revealed next episode. Umemiya is voiced by Yuichi Nakamura and I think it’s a great fit! Some of Nakamura’s roles include Kuroo from Haikyuu, Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen and Sein from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. It’s safe to say that Nakamura knows how to voice mentor/big brother figures well.
Shishitoren reveals their whole group. Their leader Choji is a nut job. He’s petite and cute, but don’t let his sweet looks fool you. Those dead fish eyes of his are menacing as heck. I don’t think he has even blinked once during his appearances. He’s like the antithesis of Umemiya in a way. They’re both at the top, but Umemiya likes his position while Choji is bored of it. That’s why he’s so chaotic and bloodthirsty because he needs to find a purpose. That’s why he’s so insistent on beating Umemiya. Choji is voiced by Kikunosuke Toya, who’s known for voicing Denji from Chainsaw Man and Mikoto Yuzuki from The Yuzuki Family’s Four Sons. To be honest, I did not expect Toya to have such a cutesy like voice given the previous roles I mentioned.
Shishitoren decides to have a 5:5 match of individual 1:1 matches. The lineup is Umemiya vs Choji, Togame vs Sakura, Sugishita vs half-shave dude, Suo vs dude with bun and Hiiragi vs Sako, a newly introduced character. I forgot half-shave and bun guy’s names, but I will remember them next episode. Regarding Sako, the official website states that he has a history with Hiiragi, so this will be interesting. Also, Sako is voiced by Chiaki Kobayashi and Hiiragi is voiced by Ryota Suzuki. This is a Cherry Magic reunion gone awry (Kobayashi and Suzuki voiced the main leads of Cherry Magic).
It’s okay, Sakura. I thought Kotoha was in her 20’s too. She looks way too mature to be 16. Why isn’t she at school? Why is she working at the cafe? There’s a lot that isn’t told about the town Sakura moved into—do we even know its name? While Kotoha and Umemiya are siblings, they were raised in the same foster house, hence why they consider each other siblings. The fact that Kotoha, who’s normally friendly and chill, is super annoyed by him is peak younger sibling attitude. Also, is Omurice the only thing she can make?
I honestly can’t wait next episode. However, I do wonder why Nirei went to the battlefield when he’s not participating in the match? Will he be a supporting role in the fights? Will he gather information about the enemies? What is his role here? Anyways, what are your thoughts on this episode?

Oblivion Battery Episode 3 Review - When Baseball Gets Too Meta
This is the most meta baseball anime I’ve seen. I think I’ve watched way too many anime because I know some of these memes presented in the episode. There’s the crying Chopper face and the Super Saiyan transformation. To be honest, I have an odd sense of humor, so some of these gags made me chuckle a bit.
Tumblr media
The first half of the show was comedy as Haruka, Kei and Yamada (I’m just gonna call him Yamada because why not?) were trying to befriend Toudou and Chihaya to get them to play baseball. They first try to befriend them by luring them with written words plastered with signs and posters and then Haruka does the craziest thing by giving them porn DVDs—he even chose them based on their supposed preferences. Then, they decide to hang out at Kei’s house after school and when he realizes his mom was home, he starts freaking out. It turns out that Kei’s mom is as freaky as he is and it’s definitely genetic. She’s hilarious, though. The shot of her asking if his friends are all kissless virgins will definitely be reaction picture material. After friendly banter, Kei, Chihaya and Toudou finally join the baseball club for good. To be honest, even if this was mainly comedy not relating to baseball all that much, it was a nice bonding moment between the five. I was surprised Kei likes simulator games like Story of Seasons and hamster raising games. Given his pervertedness, I assumed he’d like dating sims.
Tumblr media
The second half starts the group’s baseball club stint. They mainly do practices, but they later get a request to do a practice match with Teitoku, a private school with a strong baseball team. It turns out that one of the Kiyomine-Kaname battery’s victims, Kokuto, goes to that school. Teitoku is also the school that everyone except Yamada got an offer to but rejected due to frustration or amnesia in Kei’s case. I know for a fact that our main group is going to get clobbered because it’s a sports anime. They cannot win against an elite school as they are now. I do even wonder how Kokuto even got the information that they went to a public school. Is he stalking them? However, the coach and the assistant coach are hilarious! They were the scene stealers of this second half. The way the older coach wanted the four genius players on his team, but when he saw them in a no-name public school, he legit combusted. He wanted his dream team but it couldn’t be fulfilled. And when their skills are being shown, he gets a bit too excited and passes out with the assistant coach, the one with the glasses, to scream for him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of Kokuto, what is his deal? Why is he doing all of this? The fact that his team calls him a nice guy but he’s being passively vindictive. I guess I’ll have to wait next week to find out what he’s good at. I am convinced he is a stalker though.
While Kei is whiny, the fact that he got all serious when someone insulted Haruka and even took his role as catcher seriously really shows that despite his flighty and rather frustrating personality, he’s a loyal friend. In fact, these two are such good friends. Haruka doesn’t leave Kei’s side and sticks with him even though he got amnesia and doesn’t remember him all too well now. Kei complains a lot but never leaves Haruka’s side. I guess his body remembers even if his brain doesn’t. That’s very gay of you, Kei.
Kei’s mom and the two coaches voice actors have been revealed via the official Oblivion Battery Twitter page! Mrs. Kaname is voiced by Rikako Aikawa whom I’m most familiar with her Pokemon roles. She mainly does Pokemon voices; some which you might recognize from the anime and spin-off anime like Ash’s Butterfree, Pokemon Trainer’s Squirtle in the Smash Bros games, Blossom’s Nidoran and Ohara’s Fuecoco from Paldean Winds. The head coach is voiced by Tetsuo Kanao, whom I’m not too familiar with. The assistant coach is voiced by the one and only Tomokazu Sugita. If you know who Sugita is, I won’t say anymore. The fact that his role is super comedic in that he’s the straight man to the head coach’s funny man but he’s also funny makes him hilarious. Also, Kokuto is voiced by Takeo Otsuka who voiced Aqua from Oshi no Ko and Jinshi from The Apothecary Diaries.
I do hope that the comedy will tone down next episode as it is a baseball anime and they are in a competition. I know that they’re going to lose to Teitoku and this will motivate the team to become even stronger. What are your thoughts on this episode?

Tadaima Okaeri World Building Interpretations
This story is an omegaverse world where it's normal to see two males, two females and male and female together without prejudice. Rather than homophobia, the main issues are discrimination between those of the second genders, Alpha, Beta and Omega. The gender of being male and female does not matter in this story because both genders can get pregnant; it only depends on who's doing the impregnating and the one getting pregnant.
Basically, the world building is a metaphor for relationships and marriages outside of the same race/ethnicity in a sense. Let's say like marriage between a Korean and a Japanese wouldn't be viewed positively due to societal issues and prejudices compared to, let's say, a Korean/Korean or a Japanese/Japanese marriage. That's basically what mix-gender marriages in Tadaima Okaeri is.
Marrying within your own second gender is like a Japanese person marrying another Japanese person and keeping the bloodline pure; basically, that's why Alpha/Alpha, Beta/Beta and Omega/Omega relationships are in this world--pureblooded genes are looked upon favorably. Mix-gender relationships like Alpha/Beta, Alpha/Omega, etc, are seen unfavorably due to mix-blood being seen as unfavorable because if you have parents of different second genders, the children will either get one or the other and it could be the desired or undesired gene, so childbirth in the omegaverse world is technically like a life gamble the moment the child is conceived.
Omegas have the most prejudices due to their heats, pheromones and other biological issues hence why they're looked down upon the most of the three second genders. Mixed-omega marriages are looked unfavorably upon because of these prejudices and the possibility that if they get a child, the child could be an omega and that could cause a rift in a family whether it be from the couple itself or from nosy in-laws.
Because the story is Japanese, it has some of those Asian elements like conservative in-laws who don't accept mixed marriages and only want pure ones to keep the blood pure. That's what Hiromu's father is a representation of--the old conservative Asian father who wants to keep his Alpha lineage pure. That was why he made a remark about how he wanted Matsuo to be Hiromu's spouse because Matsuo is an alpha and he could help preserve the alpha blood and lineage. Hiromu and his father's conflict is basically a generational gap and change in society in a way.
The fact that those around Masaki and Hiromu see their marriage as a good thing and see it beyond the second genders shows the generational gap. Later on, Matsuo and Yuuki get together and they don't see anything wrong with that despite being Alpha/Beta; the people around them don't see anything wrong with that either.
Many omegaverse stories differ in terms of world building. This is just my interpretation of Tadaima Okaeri's in a sense.

Grandpa And Grandma Turn Young Again Episode 3 Review - The Darn Hourglass
The main villain of the story is that darn hourglass. It has the power to change the grandparents from young to old and the reverse. Given that Shouzou gets conflicted when he reverts back to his original elderly self and gets insecure over it, it really is the antagonist of the story. It also pegs the question: why is it there? What purpose does it have for the Saitou couple? Did eating the golden apple curse or bless them?
Tumblr media
The first half of the episode is just cuteness from the grandparents featuring Shiori and Mino. Shiori brings in a PS3 as Takahiro stated that it could help prevent dementia. Shouzou and Ine play a game for the first time and while they question game logic like NPC dialogue and looting items from people’s homes without consequences, they eventually get hooked into the zombie game, Rice Field Hazard III, and earn all the trophies in a day. Damn, they just beat the crap out of all the existing speed runners out there. The Shiori and Mino moments were cute too. Shiori and Mino are cousins, and it’s obvious that their personalities are very different with Mino being energetic and Shiori being a tsundere.
The latter half of the episode actually drills into some harsh facts about the couple. When the couple go to Takahiro for a check-up due to Shouzou reverting back to his original self, it turns out that Shouzou and Ine are getting healthier due to their newfound youth. Shouzou’s health is surprisingly great for his age and Ine’s current self has it so that she has the body and energy of a woman in her twenties. This causes Ine to realize something. If she stays this way, that means she could live another seventy years, but if she does so, everyone in her family would die before her, even Mino and Shiori. It’s obvious that Ine is terrified and does not want immortality. Shouzou reassures her that they won’t outlive them and that they would revert back to normal soon. It really hits home how some people perceive immortality. Some desire it, while others like Ine fear it. It would make sense to fear it because if everyone around you dies, you’ll be all alone; you’d probably go “well, I’ll make new friends”, but they’ll die too and if society changes during your immortality, would you accept these changes?
Another rather somber moment of this episode is Ine’s flashback of the time she moved to the countryside during WWII. Her parents passed away, so she had to move in with her maternal relatives. Before moving, she was attending a school in Tokyo for young ladies, meaning that her family was rather wealthy. While she had a hard time adjusting to country life, meeting Shouzou melted her cold heart and that’s how she mellowed from her stern and tsundere self to her loving self.
With these somber scenes, I just can’t help but worry about a sad ending for these two. The manga for this story have chapters that are only 5 pages long, so they’re practically grouping a bunch of them together to make one episode. I’ve marathoned the ones they have so far and it makes me wonder if the current arc will be animated or if they’ll deviate and make an anime original ending. What are your thoughts on this episode?

Tadaima, Okaeri Episode 3 Review - Their Little Hero
The omegaverse aspect of the story goes full force here as the Fujiyoshi family’s first source of conflict shows up in Hiromu’s father Kouji. Last week’s episode talked about omegas in heat while this episode talks about the discrimination omegas face in terms of their place in society and possible marriage to those of different second genders as it was hinted in the first episode.
Tumblr media
Although this is a conflict episode, it’s rather human. Kouji isn’t inherently a bad person, but he’s very conservative and old-fashioned. He’s like those conservative Asian fathers who wouldn’t approve of their children marrying those of another race or ethnicity. Throughout the episode, he does say rather sketchy things to Masaki like the length of his hair and the rather snide things he said to him in the past and how often he mentions Masaki’s status as an omega. Fortunately, it does seem that Kouji has grown out of his conservative mindset and wanted to apologize to Hiromu and his family but is terrible at doing so. He’s not a bad person, but a flawed one. It’s nice to see a story where an old Asian father does admit to his mistakes and rightfully apologizes. Though, it’s very noticeable that Hiromu got a lot of his traits from Kouji from crying over Hikari’s cuteness to their looks. Hikari is also a bit of a crybaby, so I guess it’s genetic. Kouji’s voice actor is Shinpachi Tsuji, who is known for his roles like Makarov from Fairy Tail and Pakkun from Naruto.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This episode also shows off Hiromu, Masaki and even Hikari as characters well. Hiromu isn’t just someone who gets soppy over his spouse and son, but he’s very protective of them too. He would fight tooth and nail to keep both safe. It turns out that Hiromu and Masaki are fated pairs. In the omegaverse world, fated pairs are often a soulmate thing where an alpha and an omega can sense who they are destined to be with. In some stories, it can happen and in some stories, it doesn’t happen. In the case of this story, it does happen with Hiromu and Masaki as they met when Masaki was a college student and Hiromu was a lecturer at the same college. In omegaverse, alphas are known to be protective towards their mates, so in a sense, Hiromu’s protectiveness isn’t ordinary as it’s a sort of biological trait. However, Hiromu’s love for Masaki, while it may stem from being alpha and omega/fated pairs, seems to be beyond that as he definitely loves him as a person. That’s why he’s such a good father towards Hikari too. It’s because he loves and respects them both.
Masaki had a sad past where he was discriminated against due to his status as an omega. As mentioned in this episode, Masaki isn’t a pure-blooded omega as his parents were Betas. He had a sort of genetic defect and became an omega upon his birth. His parents were kind to him, but they were saddened by his status as an Omega, so he grew up gloomy and a bit self-depreciative until he met Hiromu; his status as an omega made him feel like a target of unwarranted pity and contempt and that was what Kouji was trying to instigate into Masaki in the past before changing his ways. He even didn’t want a child until Hiromu made him feel safe and a desire to be a family with him; that was how Hikari was conceived. Masaki is very strong-willed and loving because of these hardships. Sometimes, the kindest people are the result of countless sorrows in their lives.
Hikari, although a toddler who is almost two years old (and turned two at the end of this episode), has a lot of personality. He’s protective of his parents and even told his grandpa to apologize to his dad because he thought Kouji was bullying him. The first two episodes show that Hikari is a very sensitive child and he can sense when something is amiss but is also a child who takes things literally. So, when he sensed Masaki was rather troubled, Hikari went to prevent Kouji from entering his house. Later on, when Hiromu was arguing with Kouji, Hikari decided to be his parents’ hero and tell his grandfather to apologize. Fortunately, things did work out as Hikari’s words got to Kouji and he apologized. What I really like about this show is that Hikari is his own character and not just a kid character that exists to be cute. Also, there is this one thing I noticed with babies is that they seem to sense when their mothers are pregnant, so Hikari being able to sense Masaki’s pregnancy is sort of realistic in the sense of toddler logic. Hikari has melted Yuuki’s heart last episode and now he melted Kouji’s heart. He has a 2:0 win-lose ratio, meaning he’s the strongest character in the show if we do power scaling in this non-battle show.
Tumblr media
I also like the role that Matsuo and Yuki play in this episode. While they aren’t a part of the family conflict, Matsuo has known Hiromu most of his life, so he is the one to explain about Hiromu’s family to Yuuki. He even tells Yuuki about the role Hikari played in Hiromu and Masaki’s life and how he was there when Hiromu fell in love with Masaki, when he introduced him, and when he was pregnant. He’s like Hiromu’s older brother in a sense. Yuuki was sort of like the audience surrogate in terms of backstory. Regardless, the love he has for the Fujiyoshi family is adorable because even though he hasn’t known them for that long, he loves them and wants them to be happy. He’s really sweet. Hiromu and Masaki even think Matsuo and Yuuki make a fine pair, so there’s the MatsuYuu moment for this episode.
Tumblr media
I do like how despite the darkness that is the omegaverse world, there are happy, light stories like Tadaima, Okaeri. Even in the midst of omegaverse, the story makes for a great family drama. Since Masaki is now pregnant with their second child, I can’t wait to see how the family dynamic will change now that Hikari will be a big brother. I know it’s going to be double the cuteness and more tears for Hiromu to shed. What are your thoughts on this episode?

Whisper Me A Love Song Episode 2 Review - A Date Between An Unmutual Love
It’s hilarious and cute how Yori is so down bad for this girl she just met. Actually, she’s not down bad. She’s down horrendous and has gay panics as strong as Uenoyama from Given. While it feels as if YoriHima (is that their ship name?) is fast-paced, I feel like it’s a slow-burn romance?
Tumblr media
It’s nice that this episode is mainly used as a way for Yori and Himari to get to know each other. They learn more about each other like how Himari learns Yori likes cat merchandise, likes Russian Blue the most out of all the cat breeds, dresses stylishly and is actually not that much of an expert in guitars as she uses her father’s hand-me-down guitar. For Yori, she learns that Himari has a cat named Marota, likes to dress up for important dates, and really likes pasta to the point that Yori gets jealous over it. Yes, she thinks pasta is a love rival. The part where they get pair straps is cute!
I just can’t help but to feel a bit bad for Yori as she’s falling for Himari and her straightforwardness but Himari’s love isn’t the same. When will it become the same? It makes me wonder if this is going to take the entire season or if there will be a halfway point where their feelings are mutual and they start dating.
Now, the reveal that Aki has or had a crush on Yori is a bit interesting in terms of tension. She’s rather supportive of Yori and Himari getting together, meaning that she already knew her love for Yori would be unreciprocated. I just hope Aki won’t be a snake later on. I got my eye on you, Aki. You better not be a thorn on their side.
I honestly can’t wait to see how this will progress. Will Himari accept Yori’s confession or will it get delayed? What will happen next week?

Wonderful Precure Episode 12 Review - Cure Nyammy, The Rogue Precure
This is a nice change of pace from the usual formula presented in this show! The story gets a bit darker now that a rogue Precure, Cure Nyammy, comes into the fray and is actually violent towards GaruGarus than the main duo. How will the contrast in ideals affect the story?
Tumblr media
I do wonder if it’ll be explained how Yuki suddenly got the ability to turn human. Was it something she always had or was it given to her by accident? You can’t just tell me she had this ability without showing it! If she always had it, why didn’t she reveal it sooner? If she had it recently, it must have been some time between episodes 9 and 10 or a little past the events of episode 10. I know that Precure writers are either good or bad when it comes to presentation, but please let this be a good one.
Poor Mayu. Having your pet disappear one day without explanation is a terrifying feeling. Caring for Yuki is her responsibility and seeing her escape would cause her to feel many different complicated emotions within. Given that she’s an over thinker, she would believe that Yuki either hates her or thinks she’s not doing enough for her. I almost lost my dog one instance and I understand how it feels. Let’s just hope Mayu learns the truth soon so that she’d stop worrying.
To be honest, the fight scene with Cure Nyammy and the Owl GaruGaru was really well-animated. You can tell she wasn’t holding anything back with those moves and kicks. It seems that she was going all out because the Owl was going to harm Mayu. Never mess with Mayu on Nyammy’s watch. I also love her beef with the owl was foreshadowed with her disliking the owl pet camera which was rather a bit out of character for her as she usually is chill. I also like that she maintains her feline behavior with scratching and rather mean attitude towards the Precures.
There were funny moments in the episode like Iroha bringing Komugi the dog to Mayu’s house and forgetting that she made a promise to visit with Komugi the human. There’s also Satoru’s classmates teasing him about Iroha waiting for him. They probably ship them.
I can’t wait to see what sort of conflict Nyammy will bring. When will she join the Precures for good? When will her secret be revealed to Mayu? When will Mayu become Cure Lillian? I honestly can’t wait for this new shift in tone! What are your thoughts on this episode?

Pokemon Horizons Episode 47 Review - A Sweetheart's Bittersweet Challenge
Wait a second, is this the first time Friede doesn’t show up in an episode? Wow! I just realized this when his seminar came up. Anyways, this was actually a really great episode! Liko gets to battle Katy and terastalize for the first time too! Also, one thing to point out is that there might be some people who are disappointed that this isn’t an actual Gym challenge. If you have paid attention to the previous episode, the Terastal Course was never a “Gym Battle Challenge”, but a training course that the Gym Leaders are involved in; the Gym Leaders feel like instructors. There’s really no reason for Liko, Roy and Dot to challenge Gym Leaders, then the Elite Four and then Nemona in a serious way.
Tumblr media
I really like how Katy is portrayed in the anime. In the games, she is ordered to hold back her real power as she is considered the “beginner” Gym Leader and that Bug-types are often weak, so I feel like she gets underestimated a lot in the fanbase and in the game. However, in this iteration, Katy is seen as sweet but strong. She usually has a sweet demeanor, but can be menacing if pushed. She literally kicks Sandwich (Coral) out for creating an icy mess in her kitchen. She’s definitely someone you do NOT want to cross ever. Speaking of which, Katy’s voice actress is Kotono Mitsuishi. While her most famous role is Sailor Moon, she has had Pokemon roles in the past. She voiced Domino in the Mewtwo Returns special and she voices Malva in Pokemon Masters.
Tumblr media
As a Gym Leader, she’s actually very strategic and tactical. The way her Teddiursa battles is just like her demeanor. Teddiursa is an adorable and sweet Pokemon, but it can be menacing. The way she keeps commanding it to use moves like Charm and Sweet Scent to distract Floragato was pretty sweet! I do like how the anime usually expands on Gym Leaders’ battles and this was excellent! I loved how the Bug-Type Terastal looked on Teddiursa!
Tumblr media
Liko is a bit more nervous in this match than in her battle against Ann in the previous episode. She was confident with Ann because she had challenged her before and didn’t need to hold back or be scared. For Liko, this is the first time she’s battling a Gym Leader and of the three kids, she’s the one to go first, so being nervous is understandable. She was also a bit nervous during the cake making challenge with Coral as she has never baked a cake by herself before as she only helped Murdock in the kitchen. I do like that Liko’s nervous habit is still retained because it would be out of character if she was suddenly confident when she’s normally cautious. I do like that she brings out the Tera Orb towards the end of the battle and the intensity of the match increases because of it. Despite her losing, I do feel like her getting the stamp was deserved because Liko really did a great job with the timing and showing off her strong bond with Floragato.

There was also some comedic moments with Coral being the only Explorer member who shows up in this episode. Like how she was mad about the sweets in Episode 43, she got mad about not being able to eat sweets in this episode. Will this be a running gag? I do like how Dot points out that Coral’s tantrum is making her a Karen, essentially. I hope the dub mentions her being a Karen. Also, it’s nice that even Murdock recognizes her as an Explorers member, so no one is being stupid with the obvious disguise in this show and that makes me happy!
In place of Friede being completely absent for the first time, Murdock is present for the entire episode as he works part-time at Patisserie Soapberry to earn money so Orla can buy the necessary materials to repair the airship. I think this is rather clever because it is better than not having them do anything or do things off-screen without an update. Murdock was honestly adorable in this episode, especially the part where he was introducing Katy to the kids. Mollie gets a mention in this episode as she was the one who picked out Dot’s casual clothes as she’s the most fashion-oriented of the group.
I’m honestly excited for what’s to come! I really liked this episode in terms of what it presented from the Gym Leader to a fun little side challenge and then to the actual battle. I can’t wait to see Roy and Dot’s battles! It’s too bad that Roy’s battle has to wait until two weeks as there’s a break next week. What are your thoughts on this episode?

Katy's JP VA is Kotono Mitsuishi, who's most famous role is of Sailor Moon.
Given that Coral has pink hair and styled in pigtails, this feels like Usagi scolding Chibiusa for being annoying.
But since Coral's VA also voices Chopper, this can also be Boa Hancock scolding Chopper.
