Played tons of Betrayal at the House on the Hill when I visited my friend in April and got incredibly obsessed! I had no energy nor time to make this well but this still was a lot of fun! Check our Side B for the alternative characters, but nevertheless:

Beau Broke has always been drawn to water since he can remember. After his brother’s girlfriend Angela taught him swimming, he has begun to spent hours at the pool at Angela’s house. It sometimes seems like something calls him from the depths of it - but that might just be a coincidence, right? His mother would rather have him take his Piano Lessons at the Goth house more seriously. Alexander Goth has grown up with the wildest speculations about his missing mother - she might have been a witch, a cheater, a celebrity or nothing. His interest has therefore transcended human connections - he’d rather spent the day with his calculations and digging for treasure in Olive Specter’s garden where his father is testing his new insecticide.

Angela Pleasant has always been her parent’s favourite - practically perfect in every way. As such she has a tendency to spend her time as far away from home as possible. She loves playing with her boyfriend’s younger brother and is part of the debate team alongside Tybalt Capp. Secretly, she counts the days until graduation as she feels like she’s suffocating under the pressure. Whenever she falls asleep she can hear the waves of the ocean..

Tybalt Capp knows actions speak more than words. As the world burns around him, he keeps his hands clenched into fists. Lately there’s this ringing voice that he can only block out thanks to the tinctures of Mrs. Specter. Last year he met General Buzz Grunt and his sons at military camp. He admires this man’s dedication and wishes he could live with him an his sons. He’s sure a bit more structure would improve his life a lot.

Olive Specter is a genius at gardening and manages to turn the driest sand into an oasis with her special fertilizer. The poor woman has been widowed a few times but that does not make her bitter - instead she welcomes any visitor to take a look at her plants. The other day her niece brought Lilith Pleasant over and she allowed the girls to try out some of the old dresses in her closet. For an old woman, Olive has immaculate taste. General Buzz Grunt is a sceptic at heart and lives by the philosophy of shooting first and asking questions later. As part of the Neighbourhood Association he takes the safety of his son’s very seriously, albeit most of them lack the necessary discipline. Currently pestered by Tybalt Capp’s admiration, the general as become withdrawn and mostly takes care of the amnesiac woman wearing red that he has found on the streets a while ago.

Ok. I’ll spare everyone from a “the movie did not ruin the hatbox ghost it’s just a different interpretation from yours” post but this time I’ll address the other villain that some say ‘should’ have been used.

No Constance shouldn’t have been the villain.

Is she one of the obviously malevolent ghosts in the mansion? Yes. Would she be enough of a  antagonist for a two hour film? No!

Constance is a Crime of passion/black widow killer. She does it for money, for lifestyle and maybe that she simply likes doing so. We see with her husbands that she chops her way up the social ladder from Farmers wife too wealthy and mansion owning.

What use would she have beyond the grave. Early money isn’t exactly useful to her anymore and I don’t think she’s so mindless to kill everyone without reason (however I like the current film suggesting she has a thing for particularly being aggressive towards men/likes going after them). She’d have no motivation for keeping them trapped or going after half of the cast!! Nor the power for it!

The muppets movie also shows this, she’s an antagonist on a small level- trying to lure in a new husband. This time purely for the thrill of the kill. She’s not holding the entire mansion under her grip, she couldn’t care less what the other haunts do so much as they allow her to do her thing in the attic

Look, I’m sorry to say but the hatbox ghost was the most likely choice. You would’ve been mad if they made one up for the movie too, so it’s sort of the less of two evils. He’s also like the mascot so it’s a way of putting him in a prominent role.

Development Art for Disney Television Animation's two attempts of a Haunted Mansion adaptation by Alex Kirwan.

The two attempts had the following creative members:

Joshua Prett and Scott D Peterson ("Phineas and Ferb","Milo Murphy's Law","Hamster And Gretel") as a special for Disney Channel and Disney XD. - First five photos

Shanon Tindle (Laika Studios "Kubo and The Two Strings",Netflix Animation's "We Lost Ollie", Netflix Feature Animation "Ultra-Man") as a mini-series for Disney Channel and Disney XD - Final four photos

The project was sadly passed by the same executive change at leadership at Disney ABC Cable Group at 2016-2017 which axed Disney Junior's The World According To Winnie The Pooh by Cartoon Saloon, Disney XD's Very Important House created by Jenny Goldberg and Jhonen Vásquez, Douglas Furs created by Jesse LeDoux and Matt Olsen and a pitch by Thurop Van Orman however the latter would by revived at Disney TVA development on 2021.

Dead wife disease

It’s funny, in a dark sort of way, that across the years and across media. Gracey loses his wife in  increasingly tragic ways to the point it’s sort of comical. No wife Georg

It is additionally funny as in most cases his wife turns out to be the heartbeat bride/Emily De Claire in several of these cases

Edward Gracey (2003)-

Bride to be is poisoned. She is also the ghost bride, however she’s a orb most of the runtime. Edward hangs himself -> it’s a nod to the ghost host but not direct.

William Gracey (2005)-

Bride to be is scared to death by pirate ghosts as a way of getting back at him. She is the beating heart bride and her name is Emily de Claire. William hangs himself and in this case is the ghost host, adding fuel to the theory. He is also Captain blood referencing a character from a og concept for the ride. (He’s 3 characters in one)

William Gracey (2023)-

Same name as the SLG and one of the more popular ones for him. This time he is fully married and his wife is not the bride but dies of Yellow fever. William poisoned himself and the ghost host is a separate/cameo character and there’s no real noose motif anywhere.

Aging man/Master Gracey (1971)

Presumed bitchless.

The ride does not connect him with anyone besides the family plot who don’t make physical appearances. Some see him as with Sally slater? I still like to have him with the beating heart bride because the comics control my brain (though most see her and Hatty as a thing.)
