MDZS Modern AU Fic Tips (Names & Stuff)

Seishiro and Subaru; The two are from opposing magic clans and accidentally meet as children when Seishiro has murdered someone (his clan specialises in assassins). Instead of killing Subaru, he makes a bet with him that they’ll meet in the future, and if after one year of protecting and pretending to love Subaru, he truly feels love for him and not indifference like all his other targets, he’ll spare him. Seishiro marks Subaru’s hands and wipes his memory of the event. Back to the present after many months, Seishiro loses an eye trying protect Subaru, and Subaru finally realises he’s in love with Seishiro, and when he goes to see him, the other man declares the year is up, and since he still sees Subaru as nothing but prey, he attacks him, breaking his arm and torturing him close to death, until Subaru’s grandmother uses magic to break the spell. Subaru enters a frozen state afterwards, and his twin sister Hokuto decides to take matters into her own hands, as she encouraged the two to be together, despite knowing there would be risks involved. She dons her brothers ceremonial robes and goes to meet Seishiro. She asks that he kill her instead, to protect her brother. Subaru sees this in a dream, shocking himself out a frozen state, and vows to get revenge for his sister. Tokyo Babylon pretty much ends here but the story continues slightly in X/1999 where there’s more trauma, more weird eye stuff, other fucked up toxic couples and 20 year long hiatus. Yay! Thankyou CLAMP for creating messed up characters!

Do you ever think about the golden core's reveal and how they are making everything jiang cheng's fault? The victim blaming here is incredible. And I can't stop thinking about how jiang cheng, who has lost his entire family (a part from a kid who he let be just a kid!) is dead and so no one can gently cradle his face and says, 'this is not your fault, you are a victim too, your feelings matter.'

And how, after the shitshow of the reveal, wei wuxian tells jiang cheng that everything was about duty, inevitably stomping on jiang cheng's pain, making it worth nothing.

"Wait," Jiang Cheng says, not caring the way his voice cracks.

Nie Huaisang glances back at him, and before he can say anything, Jiang Cheng tugs him closer. Jiang Cheng lets go of his wrist in order to cup Huaisang's face with both hands, tilting it up as he leans down. He remembers to angle his face so their noses don't bump and press his lips against Nie Huaisang's. His lips are soft and this close the scent of him is overpowering, ink and something lightly floral. Jiang Cheng wants the kiss to be more, but he's not sure how to do it, or if it would be welcome, so after a moment he pulls back, vaguely aware that he's rubbing circles on Nie Huaisang's jaw with his thumbs. He makes himself meet Huaisang's eyes.

“Was that okay?”

Nie Huaisang’s eyes widen. Instead of replying, he wraps his arms around Jiang Cheng’s neck and surges up for another kiss. Not that Jiang Cheng is surprised, but it is immediately obvious that Nie Huaisang does know how to kiss. His lips move against Jiang Cheng’s, firm but gentle, coaxing, tugging at Jiang Cheng’s until he opens his mouth slightly. Nie Huaisang deepens the kiss then, his tongue lapping at Jiang Cheng’s lips and into his mouth, exploring. It should feel weird. He always assumed it would, but it doesn’t. Instead Jiang Cheng finds himself imitating Nie Huaisang, responding in kind, eager to taste him too. Without really thinking about it, he moves his hands to Nie Huaisang’s waist, pulling him closer. Nie Huaisang lets out a pleased little hum and arches into Jiang Cheng’s touch. The silken brocade of his robes brushing against the bare skin of Jiang Cheng’s chest.
