Alright yall! Here’s the Breath of Life playlist so far :) a lot of the songs on here are ones that have inspired chapters (The Weight inspiring the scene of them waking up together for the first time in Chimacum, Ptolemaea inspiring ch 19, Poison tree inspiring the upcoming chapter!, etc.), some that chapters are named after because I thought they fit the vibe (mostly the ones by Hammock lmao), some that I feel relate to Meg and Evan both as a couple and individually! As always, this playlist will be ongoing and I’ll add more as we go, and I also would love suggestions as well if yall have any!!

I'd like to suggest Head Over Feet by Alanis Morrissette if it's not in the playlist and I'm going to go on a tangent about it because I've been thinking about it for a while now so I hope you don't mind because this is going to be long

The lyrics just remind me of things that have happened in BoL like

I thought about it

Meg and Evan were stuck together when they got out they were forced to listen to each other. Like actually listen and not just hear the words.

You treat me like I'm a princess

I'm not used to liking that

You ask how my day was

Obviously this is after they get over their differences and start growing closer. Evan treats her well. So well that even her friends take notice of how their interactions are different from theirs. Meanwhile Meg is/was used to being killed by Evan during the trials so her enjoying how he treats her is something she finds weird but not unwelcome.l, especially when he asks her how she is.

Your love is thick

And it swallowed me whole

Than I gave you credit for

That's not lip service

They love each other so much that they basically feel it between them. Evan's love encompasses Meg like a blanket and she feels safe around him in a way that doesn't compare when she's with her friends. She also thinks he's braver than she realized, especially when he confronted Jeffrey at the barn to save her and when he went after her when she decided to follow Feng and got kidnapped. She even tells him outright that he's strong and it's genuine, not just to make him feel better.

Thanks for your patience

Unconditional things isn't just referring to love. It refers to their friendship, trust, affection, etc. What Evan feels for her is lasting and makes such an impression that it's hard to not notice it.

He is also a gentleman and treats her like a man would a lady from his own time period. Evan is also patient with her, especially after the events with Jeffrey and Herman and the pain and torture she went through, allowing her to set the pace of things and not simply rush into it.

You're the best listener

That I've ever met

Again with listening. They communicate with each other. It's obviously not perfect but they still talk to each other. And not just about problems. Megmillan talks to each other about their pasts and their feelings and other conversations that people would deem irrelevant, like during their grocery shopping spree.

What took me so long?

Technically Nea takes the title of best friend, but Evan can be Meg's other best friend. And the benefits obviously aren't referring to sex yet but to the safety and care they give each other. Meg even realizes in the story how much she wants Evan. Not for anything materialistic he can give her, but everything about him.

I've never felt this healthy before

I've never wanted something rational

I am aware now

Even before their time in the Entity's realm Meg's life can't compare to how she lives now. Evan definitely lives better now, especially with Meg and her friends around.

In a way Meg loving Evan is "irrational" because of their past, but considering how complicated it is and the understanding they've come to, it's justified that they both want each other.

Now both of them are aware of what their relationship is and what they both want from each other and the bond they have.

All those verses and I still haven't talked about the chorus yet

For us it was obvious when their friendship became something more because we started reading because it was tagged Megmillan but for Meg she never expected to fall in love with a killer.

The lyrics could also be her yelling Evan that he shouldn't be surprised or doubtful that she's fallen in love with him, because he's a better person and that's why she's drawn to him. Her falling in love with him is "his fault".

I actually have never heard this song until today and it BLEW ME AWAY and I added it to the playlist immediately!! I definitely didn't mind this at all, and actually I loved reading your interpretation of the lyrics and how it relates to our favs! I'll never be able to listen to this song without thinking about them now <3 thank you so so so so much for this!! <3

OOOOOOHOoHoohoh tbh i kind of fell off with the playlist BUT I've been adding stuff and making one today hahah. So yes we do! I'm still taking song requests to put on it <3 I have my own songs that remind me of it, plus songs that have inspired chapters, but I'd love suggestions from others! AHHH So I'm so sorry anon that I've been so MIA the last year. I definitely would LOVE to write that super soon and write loads more fluff with the BoL group!! I'm almost done with the next chapter, but I've also been trying to make more time for writing, and I think a fun lil project would be the lake story we all need in our lives hahah. Hello! I was wondering if you had a playlist for breath of life?

Hi! I do!!! I'd LOOOOVE to share it and I never thought about actually doing so until now...but I also need to go through it and I think make a new one because I have songs on it that also have inspired the end of the story and I'd hate to give anything away hahah. Check back in a few days; now i really want to share it <3

It mostly contains a lot of songs that either make me think of Meg and Evan in BoL, various events that have happened, and instrumental songs that inspired me for some of the chapters. Especially some of the early ones, like ch 8 'I Can Almost See You' and ch 9 'Now and Not Yet' were inspired by songs by a band named Hammock. I absolutely adore their stuff, and for a lot of the chapters, just listening to their music brings the exact emotion I feel like Meg and Evan are experiencing as well. So all of that and more is in the playlist I'll make public here soon ;) and I'll probably add songs as I update as well!

Ik how breath of life is a very amazing very awesome and well written slow burn (great job by the way!) but all I can think of is Evan being from like the early 20th century and being scandalized by the current fashion and Meg deciding to go shopping with her friends and coming back with current fashion clothes and trying them on

first of all, thank you so much!! <3<3<3 second, I also think about this a lot and it's something I wish I included more in the early chapters of BoL!! I like to think it definitely crossed his mind along the way though, but with all the other catching up he had to do, clothing fell by the way side hahah. But oh man, imagine his thoughts about Meg in her leggings in the first couple of chapters. How scandalous! Someone awhile ago mentioned a "beach chapter episode" of BoL (which I still love the thought of), and can you imagine Evan seeing Meg trying on bikinis/bathing suits/anything THAT revealing?! hahha
