How has Pilates workshops changed in the age of Covid
Pilates workshops are like air for Pilates teachers. After a bit of time we need to “take a deeper breath” and learn, explore and feed our Pilates teaching. How has taking workshops changed now that we are in the reality of Covid-19?
I wrote a blog a while back on the importance of Pilates workshops vs watching a video. You can check that out below but, what happens now to those in person workshops? Are online workshops ok?
Here are 2 things I think are important as you are looking into workshops:
1. Finding that community, support, and sharing experiences with your fellow Pilates community
2. To move, learn, absorb, share thoughts and  to be the student again.
In my past blog I wrote how watching a video is not the same as being live in person for a workshop with fellow teachers and the presenter. That has not changed. A video doesn’t give feedback, guide you, watch you or answer questions that come up.
As the new reality of our world has set in the thought of going to a crowded conference or workshop in a studio is not something that is happening or a comfort level for many until a vaccine is out there for us.
The question now is can a virtual Pilates workshop be worth it for you as a teacher? My answer to this is yes if certain things check the box for you.
I have done my Teacher Training Programs and workshops virtually and it may be different when it comes to hands on (which would be out of the picture anyway due to social distancing) but, it is possible to get your Pilates workshops in and be even more satisfied than if you had been there in person.
Think about it! No traveling to another city, no hotel, no Uber or renting a car so right away you saved money! Depending on the subject you could be at home in your pj’s sipping coffee as you learned or in your own studio that you teach at every day.
I know for me teaching workshops virtually is still meeting those top 2 things I want in a workshop! In fact I have found that the group is more engaged, more willing to jump in with thoughts and questions, and the community support is very much present.
As with most of our lives now finding our way in this Covid world, we need to take a look at our continued learning and recharge as teachers. It seems that now is the time to take a moment and really get the work in for ourselves.
Not only will it give our Pilates soul deeper breath but, our clients as well!

Pilates Mentorship? What every Pilates teacher should know!
The word Mentorship when it comes to Pilates can sound a bit confusing to a Pilates teacher. What is a Pilates Mentorship and do you need one to continue your Pilates career? How do you find a Pilates Mentor?
A while back I wrote a full blog on What is a Pilates Mentorship and you can read the full blog below but, today let’s look at the reasons you may be ready to seek out that Mentor!
1. You are looking for the why, how or to understand the work in a new or deeper way.
2. Wondering why you are teaching what you are teaching, feeling that maybe you aren’t sure in what you are doing in your teaching for your clients.
the most important question is this..do you FEEL like SOMETHING is missing? You may not even know what it is.

So you want to teach Pilates?
In this time of Covid-19 and many business’s being closed thinking of a new career or starting a new one may feel for some not the thing to do. The truth is this is the time to take your love, your passion and what you truly want and go for it! You love Pilates, you love what Pilates does for you and how you feel after doing Pilates so why not take that and build a career to teach others Pilates?
I wrote a little blog a few years ago on Teacher Training which asks 4 important questions that I will share with you. Get out your pen and paper ( yes, old school I know!) and see what comes first to your mind with each question. Don’t think to hard, just let the thoughts flow.
1.  Why do you want to teach Pilates?
2. What kind of time do you have to focus on your teacher training?
3. Do you want to be a fully Certified Pilates Teacher?
4. What can I afford in terms of training and is it worth it?
These questions are simple and something you should be aware of before beginning not only your journey of teaching but, figuring out your path on how to get there.

What exactly do those Pilates principles mean?
What did Mr. Pilates actually have to say on this?
Do you have ideas on what they are for you?
If you could ask one question on this what would it be?

Click the link in my profile for more info. Next week’s blog (Monday if you want to mark your calendar) is on my Mentorship Journey. This picture spoke to me today on a piece of that journey for me. We were having a lot of fun with our fellow teacher @k_ochsner by correcting every little thing we could in a truly exaggerated way but, there is a small truth for me in this. For a long time as a teacher I was feeling that “don’t” “no” or “then you can’t” in terms of my body when continuing my Pilates journey and learning from others. I was searching for something at the time and feeling maybe certain things just weren’t for me or my clients. So not true right? Finding someone to say “hey! Here you are” changed everything. Positivity, support, that nudge of “you can do this” takes us beyond what we think we can do. I’m thankful for my journey and I love that now I can do the same for the Teachers in my Mentorship Program. What do you look for when you want that guidance? I would love to hear. Just DM me or shout it out! On that note I’m resting up as my Teacher will be pushing me further than I think I can go tomorrow 🤣🤣🤣. #hilaryopheim #mentor #mentorshipprogram #pilatesteachertraining #pilatesteacher #pilatesstudioowner #wapilates #workshops #pilatesworkshops #letsseewherewecangotogether #motivational #positvity #challengeyourself #believeinyou #happinessrules #pilateseveryday #pilatesmovesme #pilatesfit #pilatesstory #pilatesmentor #pilatesblog #pilatesjourney #moveeveryday #itisthejourney #pollyanna #pilateslover #pilatesstudio #beyourself #pilatesblogger

Today my lovely friend @kimmiet22 came to WAP for a workout for herself. Kimberly and I met at the PMA years ago and have been friends every since. She runs the Pilates studio @pilatesonthedeck in Kemah. Right now they are doing a full renovation complete with new apparatus and more! So to say she is a bit overwhelmed would be an understatement. As she said “ I need to see you, I am sick of hearing myself teach” . She came to move and so we did. It’s funny as she came to de-stress and get her focus, recharge and move. Yet, I found that it was doing the same for me. Spending that hour sharing the work and passion we have for Pilates and movement. We got to hang around after chatting, giggling and just catching up. It was the best way to end the day. I think sometimes we get into our routine and get on that automatic pilot and don’t get those moments we need to just “be”. For Kimberly it was in doing the work, hitting the Reformer and Wunda Chair, a little hanging on the Cadillac. Yet, for me seeing my friend relax, enjoy the movement and smile made that for me. We chose to pose in front of @icrapoport work as she will be having some of his photos in the newly designed space of her studio. I will be there in September to give a workshop and we will be our goofy selves and pose again. So, I left the studio today smiling and singing and lighter. All due to a friend who came to do Pilates. She gave me the gift. Have you had that moment this week? Where you just got to play? Enjoy? During your day? If not, go for it! Even if just an hour. I want to hear about it, DM me or just shout out here! Go for it! #pilatesonthedeck #chuckrapoport #gratzpilates #pilatesteacher #pilatesstudio #pilatesteachertraining #pilatesfriends #happiness😊 #pilatesteaser #pilatesmentor #pilatesstudio #letsseewherewecangotogether #pilatesgoals #pilateseverywhere #womenempowerment #pilatestinstructors challengeyourself #behappy #communitymatter #pilatescommunity #livewell

A little coffee meet before work! It felt great to walk back into @catalinacoffee and meet up with friend Katie. For 5 years WAPilates was next door and it felt a bit like walking home. Felt familiar and safe. Katie is visiting from Jakarta where she is living for a few years. Whenever she gets back to Houston we connect either for a Pilates session or like today for coffee, chat and Pilates. Just like walking into Catalina sitting and catching up with Katie was familiar, safe and like home. She is on the same journey it seems at the same time. Taking a new journey. Getting to a place in your life where you can sit, stay and be happy or maybe take a chance and jump off that cliff so to speak. Knowing it will be scary, challenging, and into the unknown. Yet, as we talked about this we also talked about how no matter what happens it is an experience of growth, learning about ourselves the good and the bad. Seeing how we cope and how we handle it. Katie and I finished our afternoon at the studio where she got her Pilates in and we ended with her first ever Handstand on the Ladder Barrel. Typical of our whole coffee chat I said “do you want to try for the Handstand today?” I reminded her of all that we had done in the hour to prepare her and without blinking she said “sure!” As she kicked her legs and fired into those arms up into her handstand I thought yes, it is good to just take those chances and know that not only you can trust in your strength but know that someone is always there for you. To catch you if you need or lend you a hand. That is one thing I have learned and today Katie and I experienced together. Have you ever had a time in your life that you had to make that scary jump or move into something new or into the unknown? What did you learn about yourself? I would love to hear! Just DM me or shout it out! #friendsday #coffeeshops #hilaryopheim #mentor #mentorshipprogram #teachertraining #pilatesteacher #pilatesstudioowner #wapilates #workshops #pilatesworkshops #pilatesmentor #letsseewherewecangotogether #pilatesstrong #pilatestime #pilatespower #pilateslover #pilateslife #pilateseveryday #positivitymatters #pollyannaalways #lookatthebrightside (at Catalina Coffee)

Hello Friday and can’t go wrong with legs full of flowers #carbon38 and the Russian Splits. Today my workout with WAP Senior Teacher Kim had my curls in a tizzy! Forgot my towel and she had me moving and flowing and working and it felt so good. It was a brain clearing, soul filling, heart pumping and fun filled hour. Challenged with all my “no, no don’t want to” moves that my body needs. Isn’t that funny that the exercises we dread are usually the ones we need the most in terms of our functional movement. For me those are all the lovely “let’s get those shoulders more open” moves. So, yes the Rowing series, Backward Arms on the Chair, Teaser on the Chair and some more had been done by the time we hit the splits. Which explains the hair! What about you? What moves are those you secretly whisper...nnooooo. I would love to hear so just DM or even shout out here. Also, head over to @carbon38 and use my code for 20% off with Hilaryoph20 #hilaryopheim #mentor #mentorshipprogram #pilatesteachertraining #pilatesteacher #pilatesstudioowner #wapilates #workshops #pilatesworkshops #pilatesmentor #letsseewherewecangotogether #pilatesstrong #pilatestime #team38 #pilateslover #pilateslife #pilateseveryday #positivitymatters #pollyannaalways #lookatthebrightside #pilatescommunity #pilatesstyle #teachertrainingprogram #pilatesteachertraining #strongertogether #balance #recharge #practicewhatyoupreach #curlscurlscurls #curlspoppin
