has an anderperry au w/ playwright neil ever been brought up? as in he originally meant to be an actor but couldn't make it, but he wrote a few plays to moderate success? i will elaborate on this if anyone wants

hi i'm back to elaborate on the playwright/anderperry au :D this is going to be very scattered so maybe one day i will write it out nicely
anyways so i was thinking that after welton, neil & todd ended up at the same college. why? bc they need each other ofc!!! anyways so neil & todd both end up studying english. neil has a concentration in writing, and todd has a focus in education. (yes english teacher todd is perfect & i will never change it!!!) neil also studies theater & does many many plays that he's amazing in and todd is there for every single one with a bouquet of flowers on every single night bc they're cute
so i'm thinking after that, they move to nyc. well, right outside of nyc. they don't exactly have the means to move into the city y'all its expensive :'( so anyway todd gets a job teaching english at a local school & he's very happy with his career. neil goes on audition after audition, and he books very very small things, but he never really gets anywhere. so one night he's so fed up that he goes into an old journal of his & finds this script
*cue hallelujah music or smth*
and this script is great. neil, with all of his bad outcomes from auditions, has come out of them with some connections. and so his play gets staged off broadway. then closer to broadway. then ON broadway.
i feel like this is rly conflicting for neil bc he originally wrote it for himself to play but the producers were like "eh let's audition other people"
no he auditioned to play his character than didn't get it
and ofc he's very thankful for what he has but he's also kind of sad that he doesn't get to act
and then it's always "what is he going to write next? when will you write again?"
but it's never "hey i heard you were an actor! do you still want to act?"
but he is still happy dw yall he has his todd so he's good :)
also they still live right outside of nyc bc todd loves his job & doesn't want to leave & neil is ok with that :)

FOLLOW THIS ACCOUNT!!! they're one of my closest friends & AMAZING at writing headcanons!! also all of the fandoms they write for are ones i love AND ones that are very underappreciated!!!
You like Only Murders in the Building too?? Finally I found someone else!! Can you do headcanons about how Oliver became interested in theater/how he directs or something?? Thank you!!!!
Of course! Sorry for taking so long to respond.
□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□
show: Only Murders in The Building
request: yes
□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□□
Now many people upon meeting Oliver assume he was raised in NYC
But he actually wasn’t. Turns out Oliver is from a smaller town somewhere in the midwest
However, his grandmother DID live in the New York City
So when Oliver was younger (say 7 or 8) his grandma took him to his first broadway show: a production of a Midsummer Nights Dream
And once the lights went out and the action on stage unfolded, he fell in love
As a kid who had never grown up with much theater, this was world changing for him
Immediately when he got home, he looked for any opportunity to do theater in his town
Which eventually led him to school theater
He always had a passion for acting and a ton of energy so this was a good fit
And every Christmas, his grandmother would mail him a vinyl record of a new musical
When doing school theater, many times his mom would be late to pick him up (she worked shifts at a diner)
So his director would wait with him
And eventually, Oliver being the outgoing kid he was, would ask the director about his own thoughts on theater and his favorite musicals
And this gave way to Oliver asking what it was like to direct
Soon Oliver found himself falling in love with a new aspect of theater
Sure it was fun to act, but directing meant he would get to create this magic himself and see his own vision come to life
Whenever he wasn’t on stage, Oliver would watch his director and begin scribbling out his own messy notes on his script basically on what it meant to be a director and the processes involved
So one day after rehearsal, Oliver asked (read: TOLD) his director if he could help direct
And eventually this wish was granted as Oliver was offered the position of an assistant director for the shows
It was beyond wonderful, he was helping create the vision for the shows and even got to be the solo director for a couple scenes
His directing style, I guess I would describe as very excitable
Oliver is not really one to go for subtlety
He wants to make the audience feel special and invested so he will always go a bit over the top to ensure this, but it’s part of his charm
And sure whenever shows would open, Oliver would always get a small pang in his heart, a slight yearn to be on the stage instead of in the audience
But by the end of the show, he would always have his heart full and tears in his eyes because he created this show. It was his vision, his ideas, and no one could take that away from him
Hence once he went to college and subsequently joined the New York theatre scene, he knew he would always want to direct

things in the common room at welton that just make sense. (dead poets society)
Tumblr media

request: yes / no

-----------------------✰--------------------
an open window. nolan has instructed the boys time and time again to close it when they leave, and yet it always ends up open. it lets a cool breeze in during the first few weeks of the school year, when the heat is insufferable. one year, charlie opened it during a snowstorm. his face was immediately frozen, and he turned around slowly to the laughter of his friends, face covered in powdery flakes that melted just as quickly as they landed on him.
several mugs full of pencils. though they always start the year full with sharp utensils, it’s nearly guaranteed that two weeks in nearly every single one is broken, dull, or just gone. the boys have no idea that keating often re-sharpens the pencils for them after they’ve gone to bed.
a communal calendar. it’s small, and often tucked in a bookshelf so it won’t get into the wrong hands. there are pictures of the city on every page. todd’s brother gave it to him. every person on their floor wrote down their birthday, and it’s checked nearly every day. the days when spring, winter, and summer break begin are marked with bold, red letters that read “FREEDOM”.
a wall of pictures, in the nook by the window. they’ve been putting them up for so long that many of the faces are unrecognizable. the poets like to play a game where they try to figure out who the person is, where they’re from, who they are now. they’re usually wrong, but once, they were right.
a toolbox. this is mostly for meeks & pitts & their lovely little inventions. i like to think one of pitts’ brothers or something told him to bring a toolbox “just in case”, and though he thought it was stupid at the time, the wrenches and screwdrivers and things that are in there allow him to make things that he never thought were possible.
a globe, the really nice kind that’s almost as tall as your waist and spins every which way. they’re meant to use it for geography assignments. sometimes todd and neil play a game where they’ll spin it as fast as they can, close their eyes, and stop it. they have to explain everything they know (or make up) about the place where their finger lands, and why the other simply HAS to go there.
one single strand of black hair. i know this sounds dumb. BUT if dps takes place in 1959 then i can make this work. charlie came in after a break with something in his hands. and cameron was DYING to know what is was because he wouldn’t tell him. turns out it was this one piece of hair. and so he was like “dalton what the hell is that i don’t even know what to say”. charlie insists it’s a piece of elvis’ hair. but he won’t say how he got it, where he got it, or give any proof whatsoever. despite that, it lives in infamy right next to the window. (until a strong breeze causes it to be lost, in which case charlie dalton will need a brief grieving period and the creation of a memorial.)
ok back to more normal stuff. pressed flowers and leaves. i’d like to think that this is something that todd just does, like he’ll just pick up flowers he likes and put them in heavy books like it’s nothing. and so when the other poets saw him do it for the first time, they were intrigued. he taught them all how to do it, and now there’s a shoebox nearly overflowing with the prettiest flowers and leaves you’ll ever see.
a lamp that’s most definitely a fire hazard. every time it turns on it fizzles and pops… it’s hum is nearly deafening. it’s always entertaining to see someone’s reaction to it the first time they see it. but the sound of the lamp seemingly self-destructing is strangely soothing -- to those who have been at welton for a long time, they see themselves in it. for though you’d think it would have exploded by now, it’s still standing, flickering and providing light despite all it’s been through.

What are the poets hobbies?
The movie tells us about their passions and aspirations but we don't really know what they like to do in their free time. (This is a modern au mind you).
Neil. - This man loves trampoline parks and rock walls. He's tall and lanky so that makes climbing easier for him, and trampoline parks let him bounce until he gets his energy out. He's even learned how to do backflips. He also loves making smoothies because I said so.
Todd. - Todd can play the piano really well. That's just a fact. But I also think he would love being outside. It's just very peaceful for him. He goes for long bike rides and he likes archery. He sits outside and does nothing for hours on some days. I think he has a little notebook where he writes about all of the animals and plants he saw outside that day. Yes he is sunburnt all the time. Yes he collects pine cones.
Knox. - This guy likes water. Some days I wonder if he's secretly a fish. Seriously though he's amazing at swimming. He's still distraught that Welton doesn't have a swim team.
Cameron. - He likes drawing. It's easy for him to visualize images in his head, so he's great at sketching anything he sees. He hates doing faces because people don't like how realistic he is. He prefers to do simple things like a car driving down his street or cityscapes. He doodles on his homework sometimes but it's just geometric shapes. "Wow you can draw?" "Yea look at this really cool cube I made yesterday."
Charlie. - He. Does. Everything. Name an activity and he probably tried his hand in it. After a week he usually gives up whatever it is. He's the type of guy to watch a movie and copy a character for a while. When Top Gun came out you know he bought aviator shades and a leather jacket. He also likes skipping rocks.
Meeks. - He's a computer guy. He likes video games like minecraft because he can make whatever weird stuff he wants. He's good at coding for websites. He's probably a mod for 8 differant discord servers as well.
Pitts. - He loves movies. He loves movies so much but not in the usual way. It's always "Wow do you guys see that camera angle? This was a never been done angle when this came out and it changed the film industry. That lighting is so great because it has so much .shadowing to the end of the movie." "Pitts just let us watch the movie." You mention any movie casually and he provides 8 different behind the scenes facts and every detail that inspired the writer into making the script. Nobody lets him come with them to theatres anymore.

(kind of a long ask)
do you mind doing the outsiders crew with a curtis sister!reader where she's older than ponyboy but younger the soda. Basically, the reader is short and the gang (except her brothers) don't excpect her to be very strong but in reality she's really strong and does roller dirby, baseball, wrestling etc. Just a little scenario or headcanons of the boys reactions to being shown up by a 15yo ( ˘ ³˘)♥︎
hiii!! ty for the request! u can find it here <3

“alright, c’mon ace! you can do it … go go go!!”
you bit back a smile at the loud cheers coming from your brother sodapop. a quick glance told you that he was right there, next to the dugout, with your other brother, ponyboy. you wondered if maybe darry got off of work in time to see you, but the quick call of the umpire quickly snapped your attention back to the task at hand. the sun was beating down on that hot april afternoon, and a bead of sweat came down your forehead. you adjusted your stance on home base, making sure your grip on the bat was tight. the game was tied, and you it was up to you to win. then the pitcher made his move, and there you were, swinging your bat.
“y/n! run! c’mon!!”
you were running alright. and now you ran even faster, having heard darry’s voice cheering you on. this was where you belonged, on the diamond. you could see the other team scramble for the ball, your own teammates cheering as you rounded the bases easily. one of the outfielders tried to throw the ball to the boy on third base, but it wasn’t going to phase you. gritting your teeth, you had an explosion of speed, and slid onto home base just in time. your teammates erupted into cheers as the game ended. you took off your helmet, a big grin taking over your face. you nodded to your brothers, and went over to get a drink of water.
you teammates were there to congratulate you, slapping you on the back and mussing up your hair. as the only girl on your school’s baseball team, you had quickly shown the boys that you were nothing to be messed with. growing up with three brothers, as well as the pseudo-brothers in your gang, you were way tougher than anyone thought. although, many of the boys in your gang still thought of you as fragile and delicate, despite years of showing them otherwise.
“aw, y/n, that was an AMAZING game!!” came the excited yell of your brother ponyboy as he bounded over to you, followed close behind by ponyboy and darry.
“thanks, soda.” you said, and you couldn’t hide a smile. you took a hand to your cheek, trying to wipe some of the grease paint off.
“here, use this.” darry said, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a couple tissues. one glace at him told you that he had come straight from work. he looked tired, but happy. “good job, kid. now give me that bat. we need somethin’ to eat.”
“how about the dingo?” you asked, handing darry the bat and your helmet, then taking a swig of water.
“aw, y/n, i don’t wanna go to the dingo.” ponyboy said, shaking his head.
“did you hit the winnin’ run today, pony?” you grinned, nudging your younger brother. “i didn’t think so!!” you, darry, and soda began to walk away, towards the road that would get you to the diner. ponyboy hung his head, kicking the dirt on the diamond, but he followed the three of you after a moment.
the dingo wasn’t exactly the BEST place to hang out, but they could make a damn good milkshake and fries. plus, without steve there, you would finally be able to have food to yourself, instead of him stealing it all the time! it was a short walk from the diamond -- only about ten minutes. however, as you got closer, a familiar truck in the parking lot caught your eye.
“oh n-” you started, but they were already runnin’ towards you. of course the gang was here. of course. in the blink of an eye, two-bit and steve had already tackled soda and pony, and dally and johnny came over to you.
“how come your forehead has that bruise, shortcake?” dally said, leaning in to check it out. you had almost forgotten about it yourself, since it had happened earlier in the week.
“oh, nothin’, dal.”
“doesn’t look like nothin’.” johnny muttered, brow drawn with concern.
“aw, tell ‘em, y/n. it’s a good story!!” pony spoke loudly, dusting himself off as he got up, finally. you shifted your weight, suddenly seeming a bit less confident than usual.
“lemme guess.” two-bit started, and you turned to face him, an amused smile on your face. “you probably slipped or somethin’.”
“aw, lay off two. she ain’t that bad on her feet!!” steve said, punching him in the arm. the gang turned towards you expectantly, pony flashing a huge grin.
“well, i had a baseball game. not the one from today, it was a couple days ago. this guy on the other team started callin’ me names. y’know, stupid stuff. i didn’t think it would bother me. well, the ump started to tell me to shut up, all i was sayin’ was for him to stop!”
“and then what’d ya say?” johnny asked, completely invested.
“so then i get to third base. i decide not to go to home, ‘cause that would be too close of a call, y’know? so i’m on third base, and this jackass…” you quickly fixed your words after a stern look from darry. “this… guy thinks he’s all tough or somethin’. i try to go and run, but he trips me! i fell and hit my head and everything. the ump didn’t catch it, so i got up. he’s laughin’ so hard, and all i’m thinkin’ is that i wish he would shut up. so then i punched him.”
steve did a double take at that, and your smile grew.
“that shut him up pretty quickly.”
“shut him up?” pony began, excitement boiling over. “shut him up??? he was about to cry!”
“yeah!” soda agreed, illustrating by mocking the bully’s crying. “just like this. he ran off to the umpire, who totally called him on his problems.”
“hey, good for you, kid.” dallas spoke, nodding approvingly.
“wow.” johnny remarked, nodding as well.
“i didn’t even think you had it in you!!” steve spoke, messing up your hair. you made a fist to him, and he flinched.
“yeah, you better watch it randle!!” darry cleared his throat, and you put it down. “sorry.”
“maybe you should be our bodyguard from now on!” two-bit remarked, throwing an arm around your neck as you all made your way to the entrance of the dingo. “y/n curtis, the tuffest chick in tulsa!"
"and don't you forget it!" you remarked, grinning from ear to ear.

Neil has an Ella Fitzgerald obsession. He got it from his mother, they used to listen to her all the time when Neil was little and his father was at work. They would dance to her songs and sing in silly voices. Those times are one of the few good memories he has from that house and his family.
It's not uncommon to walk past Neil's and Todd's room's door and hear Fitzgerald's singing or catch Neil humming or mouthing her songs while he is walking to class. Charlie likes to sneak in and put Like someone in love playing just before Neil's comes in to the room, he gotta remind Neil that it's time to pull his head out of his ass and confesses to Todd.
