It’s been quite a while since I’ve shared a story from this ongoing scars project. I am fascinated with knowing the story behind scars - each one is like a stripe earned in life, tales of lessons learned or how resilient the body (and mind) can be.
Here’s a story from Sean Hoskins: “2006 - I was on a BMX road trip with some buddies in WA, hitting up skate parks. At one of the parks, some asshole kid and his dad started yelling at us about no bikes allowed and they would call the police if we tried to enter the park. So I ended up just riding my bike in the gravel parking lot. I jumped up on this log and went to do a foot plant off the end of it - missed my foot plant and ended up slamming knee first into the gravel. Leg didn’t hurt but saw a huge hole in my jeans, then blood soaking my pants and sock. I looked through the hole in my jeans and could see a cut that was like 2” long. My friend ran to a nearby store to grab some fishing line and needle for me. I sowed up my cut as we drove up to our next park, stopping by a free clinic in Seattle to get some antibiotics. The doctor said I did a really good job stitching it up. We made our way up to Vancouver where my buddy ended up breaking his collarbone - we ended up going home after that.“ Thanks for sharing, Sean - I’m going to get into the habit of always carrying some fishing line and needle just in case (even though I might not be brave enough to sew my own skin 😬) #scars #scarstories #documentary #photoseries
