Model Profile: Sakura Matches
Tumblr media
Sakura Matches is a budding model based in Auckland, New Zealand. She juggles her time in between professional modelling and school work. She has an amazing versatile look which can cross into many different genres of fashion and has the height to walk in top runways. Her mixed ethnicity add great dimension to her look, and makes her a distinguishable face that you won’t forget.
Sakura started when she was scouted at the age of 13 and now is featured in regular campaigns and walked in NZFW and the Fashion Festival 2012. She has so much potential in front of her and matched with her vibrant personality, I can tell she is going to be an accomplished model years on from now.
A while ago I sat down to talk to her and ask her a few things about how it is all going:
How were you ‘discovered’? - When I was younger I never thought about modelling at all, it didn’t even cross my mind until I got scouted by Sara Tetro at a restaurant when I was about 13 and she asked me if I was interested so I gave it a go! Have you always been into fashion?  - I only started to get into fashion when i was about 15, before that I wore whatever was the most comfortable!
What is your fail-safe outfit? - Plain white tee, jeans and boots
Tumblr media
How is it balancing school life with modelling, does it hinder it at all? - It is quite difficult as most of the jobs I get are during the weekday whilst I am at school but I try to restrict the number of days I take off school each term as I want to focus on school at the moment so I am careful with which jobs I choose to do and what I can handle. Any other passions you would like to follow? - If modelling takes me far, in the future I would like to possibly get into acting as well Most exciting/mundane parts of your job? - The exciting parts of modelling is definitely being able to travel! I love to go to new countries and meet new people and through the industry you get to meet and work with some awesome people. I don’t have much experience but it can be both physically and mentally exhausting as you have to learn to deal with rejection and having to balance it with school.
Is there one job that you would love to get? - Walk for Victoria’s Secret! Do you have a hidden talent? - Haha I dont think I do! although I can twist and do funky things with my tongue!
When you were 5, you wanted to be…? - I think I wanted to be a teacher or work at the supermarket cashier
The above photos were all taken for different events and campaigns.

INTERVIEW: ASTRO CHILDREN’S MILLIE LOVELOCK
A couple of months ago I interviewed Millie Lovelock and since I am shutting my wordpress, I thought I would transfer this to here!
The lovely Millie Lovelock from the bands Astro Children and Trick Mammoth agreed to take some time to answer some questions for me while she was in San Francisco on the way to moving to Montreal. She sings vocals in both bands and has great style, it is an absolute pleasure to be able to get some insight into what she has been doing recently.
Where do you find inspiration for your music?
I find a lot of inspiration in books, and just in my own physicality- music is largely a physical experience/release for me.
Has you music evolved and changed much from when you first started Astro Children? Our music changed a lot at the beginning of 2012 when our bass player left and I started using effects pedals and Isaac and I returned to a more collaborative song writing method.
You’re also in Trick Mammoth, is it hard managing being in two bands? I really enjoy being in both bands because they are so different from one another and each give me a different kind of satisfaction so I don’t mind that it can be a little tiring, and it has never been too difficult to manage.
If you could steal one movie characters wardrobe, who’s would it be? Holly Golightly’s (Breakfast at Tiffany’s).
Where would you like Astro Children’s sound to head in the future? I don’t really think about the direction of our sound. I feel like it develops quite organically and is more related to mindset and experience rather than to any concerted effort on our part. But I would like to spend some more time on recording in future. How would you describe your sound to someone who hadn’t heard your music before? I usually lie and say we are a shoegaze band, or just say “loud”.  I really don’t know how to describe it because I don’t really know what it sounds like myself.
What would be your favourite track you’ve written? Probably Nora Barnacle.   (My Favourite track from Astro Children, Take a Listen: http://astrochildrenmusic.bandcamp.com/track/nora-barnacle)
If you had to pick one novel for everyone to read before they die, what would it be? The Garden of Eden by Ernest Hemingway.
Who is one person who you aspire to? Ernest Hemingway due to his absolute dedication to his craft.
What song has been on high repeat on your playlists recently? “Shake Dog Shake” by the Cure
Along with your bands very unique sound you have a very unique style, how would you sum up your style in a few words?  Usually collections of colours that absolutely do not/should not go together. Horrible cardigans and too much hair.
Last but certainly not least you are moving to Montreal soon, what would be the thing you are most looking forward to? I am excited to spend some time in a place where I know nobody at all, but then I am equally excited to share the experience with some people that I care about who are going to end up there too.  I am actually answering these questions from San Francisco and I just spent an absolutely solitary Christmas wandering around and I loved it.  Beautiful cities are very exciting.
Both bands which Millie does vocals for are very unique and different and have amazing sounds, both have recently released recordings.

The Evolution Of The Summer Trend
Summer is always an interesting time for the fashion world, there are less components to an outfit, (because of the simple factor of it being too damn hot) however this makes it more of an effort to make a louder statement.
Last year the two biggest trends that came through in the New Zealand fashion scene was tailored co-ordinates and festival wear. When I say festival wear, we legitimately had a trend here labelled "festival". This involved tasseled loose shirts, netting and loose light shirts, aptly named since all perfect wear for festivals.
Tumblr media
This year, something I'm thrilled about is the fact that every shop seems to be doing the logical thing and combining these two trends together, this meaning we have amazing relaxed co-ordinates.
Tumblr media
These involve kimono tops matched with cute light shorts in sets as well as all round great combo things. My favorite summer look-book so far has been Glassons, they have a great carefree festival vibe to them and bring together the sense of fun that comes with summer into well thought out outfits.
Check it out here: http://www.glassons.com/shop-the-look/shop-the-look/?i=28&l=470
I'd also like to take the time to mention that Glassons seems to be hitting it out of the park every season at the moment, each season released seems to be better than the last and I think they are making themselves into a bigger name following in the footsteps of the likes of "Topshop" and "River Island"
