what's formaggio and illuso like in the mermaid au

Formaggio is a dario dario fish, tiny and very orange. Illuso is an atlanta peronii, a sort of transparent deep sea shellfish. Or well, not exactly a shellfish, it looks similar to an earth slug.

Also I need to properly address why I haven’t posted any mermaid au in a very long time.

I had a thought. Since Belugas "sing" sometimes, could Oku count sorta as a siren? I imagine him just jamming as he's doing something else, looking over and Josuke's there not quiet knowing what he went over there for...

it’s less about Okuyasu having special charming ability and more about Josuke having a really really big crush

at some point he asked Koichi to help him convince Okuyasu his voice was really magical because Josuke got caught staring at him way too often. thankfully Koichi refused ‘cause that’s a stupid idea with possibly horrible consequences and Josuke is just a coward.

even in an alternate universe, Squalo and Tiziano are still relationship goal.

Squalo is a bull shark, known for being very aggressive and living in shallow waters (so maybe.... in a soup). It can also swim in rivers, which is very useful since Tiziano is human and filling a bathtub with salt water would be such a hassle (though he'd still do it for his beloved fishy boyfriend)

What's Rohan Kishibe in this au? Maybe a human artist who's obsessed with mermaids and wants to prove they exist, but Josuke and Okuyasu keep trolling him and making him look like a crazy idiot 😂

You’re kinda right. Rohan is indeed fully human. He doesn’t particularly wants to reveal the existence of mermaids and merfolk to the world, but his unsatiable curiosity drives him to try to pursue every mermaid he remotely sees. The problem is that Josuke and Okuyasu LOVE to troll him. But it’s good sport. I mean, HAVE YOU SEEN WHAT THIS MAN DOES ON A DAILY BASIS? He’s already seen as a crazy idiot no matter what.

Hot Pants in this AU is still called Hot Pants AND wears pants. All while being a Merfolk. However, she’s what people call “Earth Mer”. Not to extend on their whole background and stuff (as I will probably put this in a too long post once I’ll be done with their exact lore) but their main features are that they possess legs, can live in both environments quite easily and still retain most of the “Aqua Mer” abilities, although not all. 

Hot Pants still wears pants. And wear they fit her pretty well.

God I love the entire purpose of this blog... (also blob fish Polpo just for shits and giggles??)

it’s our life mission to spend too much time thinking about fish and pretending they wouldn’t all smell absolutely terrible. Rohan would complain about it 24/7 but he still hangs around the merfolk because he has no other friends.

he also bought a small archipelago and spent all his money on it so it’s not like he can go anywhere else to meet new people. thankfully Tonio lives nearby and after an illegal escapade they bond and Rohan finally gets his hands on a boat to resume his world-wide research for Pink Dark Boy.

Hey, their names don't need to make sense in the Mer!AU. Like, just imagine the Bucci Gang getting their names from food packaging that ends up in the ocean. MER!BRUNO: *reading the label of an empty biscuit tin* "Bucc-Bucci-a-rati? What does that mean? Hmm, it sounds pretty neat."

okay Bruno’s family getting its name from discarded human items is super cute…. I wonder though. since most part 5 names are food related, maybe they all hang around a sea restaurant or at least, their families did, so often that they ended up picking food names.

also i’m telling you right now, there will never be a defined choice between Bucciarati and Buccellati because both sound good and we can’t even agree on Avdol’s name, or Gyro’s, for that matter. so yeah. the only thing you need to know is that his first name is Bruno and it sounds adorable. so yeah, Bruno for the win

love the expressions of the angst comic and it's a nice concept that abba hates giorno because he is dio's child. kind of hard to show grief underwater tho because there are no tears

thanks! I tried to focus on those since y'know, the actual art was mostly sketches because those took me way too long to actually think of inking it.

Abbacchio's trust issues are an endless source of bitterness and tapping into that is just so satisfying. and then there's that self deprecation because despite it all Abbacchio doesn't feel confident in his ability to act when it matters most so he's setting himself up to fail when dealing with something that he feels is important (that's how I read his character, anyway)

also I don't really see any of the character depicted as people who express pain by crying unless the situation is really overwhelming. Bruno telling Abbacchio that he is the problem this time is.... well, it's a heavy hit but Abbacchio already knew that deep down
