Market Garden is commemorated every year. The airborne landings that had to conquer the bridge at Arnhem during the second world war. Prior to this commemoration there was an exercise with, among other things, air cargo droppings from military cargo planes.
Various air forces took part during the parachute drops on the Ginkelse Heath near Ede. In addition to the Dutch, British, Romanian and German air forces, the Italian air force was also among the participants this year with a C130 Hercules.

Last Sunday was the arrival of four F22 Raptors from Alaska at the Leeuwarden Air Force Base. Earlier on Friday, F35 Lightning II and F15 E's from Lakenheath had already arrived.
It was the first visit to the Netherlands for the F22s, so there was a lot of media attention for the arrival. The F22s participated in the exercise from Leeuwarden for two days and then returned to the temporary European base at the Lask Air Force Base in Poland. During the exercise the aircraft flew in various compositions.
Due to the bird migration that takes place in this period, some bird hits took place. This affected the flight operations in the past day's.
In these days of busyness at the Leeuwarden air force base, it happened that seven different types of aircraft operated from Leeuwarden. Quite a difference with the daily routine where the Dutch F35 Lightning II are the main user of the Frisian tarmac
We look forward to another visit to F22 Raptors. The aircraft has impressed by its shape and performance !

Yesterday at nightfall, this Canadian C130 flew into Schiphol in the last evening light. This CC130-J had had a long working day. Started at Prestwick to Brize Norton, on to Rzeszov, Amsterdam Schiphol and back to Prestwick. That's why the C130 Hercules is called the workhorse of the Air Force. Two Canadian Herculesses are based in Europe and fly back and forth in support to guard the NATO borders.

Last week, Eindhoven airbase received two well-known visitors from the 37th airlift squadron from Ramstein. Well-known visitors because they often fly along with the annual Market Garden commemoration. During this commemoration various countries, that also took part in the airdrops on Ginkelse Heide during world war 2, fly together for letting the paratroopers jump of the transport planes.

Given the flight pattern of both C-130J Hercules, we assume that they dropped paratroopers around Ede and then flew on to Eindhoven airbase. A place where they are expected again in September, together with other Allies of that time, for the 2022 commemoration of operation Market Garden on September 17 2022.

The F15 Eagle turns 50
With deliveries still going on, this week marks 50 years since the first flight of the F15 Eagle.
The F15 with her iconic double tail is still a big part of the backbone of many air forces. Despite the fact that more 5th generation fighters are entering service in the Air Force, there remains a role for the F15 Eagle.
Predictions are that these will continue to fly until 2040, for models like the F15 Eagle EX.
The F15 Eagle, 50 years after her first flight with a long future ahead of her.
We share some of our oldest Eagle's, not the best, but the oldest to match the service years of this iconic aircraft

A-10 Warthog turns 50
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first flight of this type. 50 years and still flying. We recently saw her landing at Ramstein airbase during a deployment to Europe. She is experiencing turbulent times where the US Air Force has to prove time and again that she is still the best prepared for its task, despite the fact that there are now 5th generation fighter planes and drones are increasingly used. If you've been securing the skies and the grounds for 50 years and if even 5th generation fighter jets can't take your place, we admire you Warthog! May we see each other peacefully more often.

We felt privileged to be invited as a guest for the exercise Iniochos 2022. Despite the dark weather, the stop of a first wave by emerging Sahara sand, we were able to get a good view of the exercise.
An exercise on the south side of the NATO area brings together many special participants. In addition to the Greek host country, there were participants from America, Israel, Slovenia, Cyprus and Italy.

Cyprus was special, they do not often participate in this type of exercises, which ensured rapid interventions in case of accidents with an AW139 search and rescue helicopter. Slovenia's Pilatus planes provided the slow moving roll between all the fast jets.
Despite the bad weather we had a very nice time and we felt very welcomed by the Greek Air Force.

The end of an era.
Last week, the D type of the Chinook CH47 flew an last official flight for the Royal Netherlands Air Force. The flight went to the training area on the Oirschotse heide, the GLV5, but also to its future owner, the National Military Museum, the NMM.
A representation of 298 Squadron took this opportunity to hand over a number of documents with information about this workhorse to Paul van Vlijmen, Director-NMM. The Chinook then left for the Logistiek Centrum Woensdrecht, where it will be prepared to be included in the collection of the NMM at the end of 2022 and exhibited to the public.
