am curious. if you don't mind explaining, how did being a cw hold you back from... creative writing?

(i'm sorry this got too long it gave me an existential crisis)

oh. hahah, i guess i didn't think about it too much before but uhhh basically i feel like i was being... limited? because as much as it is creative writing, there are rules to how you can be writing creatively.

i did understand that of course, you have to know that there are ways to improve in writing and to do that, you follow standards. in no way did i think that having those standards for creative writing as something useless, or that i had never learned during my two years in the program because i learned a lot. i learned SO much. and i loved what i learned, and i will genuinely miss it now that i've changed programs.

but having understood that, having learned, having loved what i learned and still feeling like i cannot be a writer by standards just made me realize that maybe it's just not for me. i'm not just cut out for it. maybe i am a good writer, but only for leisure, not for the academe. if i had pushed through the program, i might have lost all love i have from the fun of writing.

tl;dr being in a creative writing program conditioned me into thinking about whether i'm writing "correctly" too much even when i'm only writing for fun on the internet that i become drained and i question my actual skills. it's not the program's issue or my skills, it's just not meant to be hahah

(also i think it's the competitive nature of my university plays a part in this. i love cw because it's fun and it relieves my stress. i enjoy it. but being in a harsh academic environment takes out the fun, which then extends to my writing outside of university! sad.)

we are answering this ask in lieu of an announcement, so i, mod jio, will be responding to the questions currently in our inbox and clarifying the current status of idolteyvat as a genshin tumblr network.

first, to anon, no. we are not active anymore. no, we do not have any other blog or network. whichever blog(s)/network(s) you’re referring to, they are not in any way, shape, or form affiliated to idolteyvat and its moderators.

second, we would like sincerely apologize for the inactivity of the network. we, the moderators of idolteyvat, genuinely enjoyed and loved running the blog, but over time we just could not handle the network anymore -- our schedules had not allowed us to keep idolteyvat active and, over time, we had just grown out of genshin impact that we felt it was not appropriate for us to continue.

third, we will not be reopening member applications or restarting the network, but we will keep the blog accessible for all. we hope everyone would still take their time viewing the works of our members and even the graphic edits done by the mods from the teasers to the events.

we have not made any proper announcement about the network closure, unless you can count the update post. hence, this post will be our official announcement.

note. a late birthday drabble for albedo, but is it really late when albedo day is every day? it’s been a long time since i last wrote and this may be a bit all over the place, but i cannot not write for the love of my life. (p.s. thank you mint for beta-ing this short piece!)

The pure, unadulterated warmth playing beneath your eyes is what distracts him. It isn’t his first time here, nor his second, nor third, nor sixth, nor twelfth—he had already lost count on how many of his days have been spent within the four corners of this room.

It is, however, yours. Your first time to set foot into this room, enter the place of the curation of the past and the present, and see it for yourself.

Truth be told, there isn’t really much to see. Albedo thinks there is nothing of note among the collections exhibited in the room, but he also thinks it must be because he has gotten so used to how his mind has grown accustomed to its space; feet moving across the room through memory he had developed through all his visits.

“This,” Albedo starts, briefly gesturing towards a seemingly bland portrait of the old city framed on the wall. He has not even started with his telling of its details (which you enthusiastically asked for every other exhibit you’ve already passed by) yet… there is an undying awe in you. He finds it endearing, much to the point that he feels it tug at his heart—a cheesy sentiment, but it is really the most accurate description he could find.

He goes on, and on, and on. He details you of what he knows, you listen with such intent that brings him immense pride and joy. There is so much to tell, so much to say. Every word is a testament to his knowledge and expertise, as well as your importance to him. One hand points to whatever your ask about, and his other stays safely in yours.

(He keeps his fingers there, and truly, he thinks, your hand fits his so perfectly.)

This is something that he can only give to you, and only you.

You stride towards the middle of the room, where you could survey the whole space with just a simple turn. He watches, with concentration, how you talk about this one particular portrait you can’t seem to forget, but he stops listening after you say its name. He watches, with concentration, how you smile about being grateful for him bringing you here, but he would bring you here, and anywhere you would love.

He watches, with concentration, the only work of art in this room that is alive.
