white ppl portraying moc (or male characters who are coded as poc) as like. haha stupid funy h*mbos is always going to bother me bc not only does it often result in instances of white people turning moc into a harmful stereotypes, its also them taking away the intelligence and autonomy of moc in an attempt to render black and brown men into something completely palatable for white audiences because moc with intelligence, strength, and autonomy are just too scary and threatening for yall ig. like this bs comes in 2-3 flavours: u either dehumanize moc and portray us as stupid and/or brutish which feeds the broke white narrative That moc Are Dangerous and should be Put Down by c*ps or w/e, or its reducing moc to the dude who dies first and exists purely for the sake of making white ppl laugh, and/or they exist to solely be juxtapositioned to a (white) leading character in a way that makes the white lead look good (usually at the expense of the mcoc being taken seriously)

i think one of the things that really gets me about the maddian dynamic in maddy cool is that when maddy is acting out because of her recent transformation, rhydian won't embarrass her in front of anyone and call her out until they're on their own. and even though she's being snarky and prickly, he takes a gentle approach, telling her to run with him so she can work out her excess energy. it's only when she pushes too far that he actually expresses his irritation and anger at her, but it's always coming from a place of concern. like he didn't want to go to the party and they had just fought but he goes anyway just in case maddy shows up. the way he treats her in that episode is so telling, and i always thought occam's razor was when he realized he was falling for her but his behavior in maddy cool just confirms it for me because he is starting to show and verbalize his concern for her

im noticing that for a lot of americans “free palestine” has been an ideological motto and symbol rather than them actually believing in their heart that freedom is attainable and necessary

sean and emma’s first dates were with each other. he took two pictures with her for her two different outfits and dug through a trash can to find her wallet. he stepped in front of a gun for her !! when they were like 14 !! she set up a fundraiser to get him money for a lawyer while he was in jail. emma’s house was where sean was supposed to come home to when he got out of the army… literally a god tier couple, i cannot believe they didn’t end up together.

The next essay might be chapterless. With the way I'm writing it I feel like it makes sense to read it in one big go. There's different topics like my other essays but I feel like it wont hit the same if you read it out of order. I don't mind ppl reading/reblogging the Martha or Ncuti essays out of order because each chapter kinda makes sense on its own but for this I think the topics bleed into each other a lot so 1 big essay is better. If you've read a Treatise on Martha Jones I think the structure is gonna be similar to that.

that “worst Palestinian” blog is gone but there is a lot of liberal, faux-progressive genocide apologia for this site to reckon with. some of the most complicit users seem to be popular and leave their mark on tons of posts and influence the overall cultural here. and this is absolutely just one indicator of how this site is very racist
everything from talking down to Palestinians about striking and boycotting, to flowery essays muddying Israel’s participation in genocide, to that one vile bingo card. all of it makes room for some anonymous freak to make a poll that entails harassing a user who is in an actual open-air concentration camp. and all of that dehumanizes people like him which manufactures consent for their death. real death, not some fucking fandom discourse

Young Dracula ended 10 years ago today (I'll take a moment to whimper with my fellow 90s/00s kids who are feeling old as hell right now), giving us one of the most perfectly heartbreaking speeches i have ever heard from any vampire media about why a vampire would choose mortality over immortality.
It's a life! One life! A beginning, a middle, and an end! I'll take that over being forever stuck in limbo on the night shift! No more fangs, no more blood, no more hiding in the shadows!
...and this was from a show that had the wonderfully cheesy phrase "what the blood and garlic"

Its funny how people talk about classism and working class rep in RTD1 but casually say they're happy Martha wasn't working class bc 'it would've been bad representation' in the same breath. Yh, there's a lot of damaging hood stereotypes out there but being working class whilst Black doesn't automatically make the character bad. We're not problematic just for existing. If anything, Martha being a working-class Black woman becoming a doctor would've been even more groundbreaking, especially bc the average Black Brit is working-class or below. Even Freema Agyeman herself grew up on a council estate. That could've been really inspirational. The idea that UK discrimination ignores race and only focuses on class is false especially if u look at how the Windrush were treated because they were working class AND Black/of colour (Tory party appealing to white working classes with anti-immigrant rhetoric, Sikh and Muslim workers making their own unions bc they were excluded, West Indians being denied rent etc.). RTD fans love to create a split where Rose's working class rep and Martha's Black rep exist in boxes that don't ever touch but they do. I've seen so many 'but Martha's middle class so I couldn't relate to her' which is funny bc apart from ignoring all the Black fans that couldn't relate to most characters in the show anyway, a lot of us still related to Rose. South and East London are have huge multiracial and multicultural working class communities. We deserve to be represented too. We exist. Working class isn't a synonym for white.
It just says a lot how much RTD and Rose are gassed for destigmatising working class characters but it would've been sooo bad if those characters were Black lol. 'Chav' and 'roadman' have become removed from their OG meanings and are now aesthetics and trends but the actual people living their lives are still living the stigma. You lot love 'chavs' as in cute y2k fits on a conventionally attractive white woman but lord forbid a hypothetical Black person that's unemployed, broke and speaking Black Brit Vernacular getting that doccy who screentime bc that's a bit too ghetto™ apparently. It also says u lot have limited imagination. Attack the Block and The Kitchen proved Black working-class characters can exist in sci-fi and if we're gonna go there... they're doing more for working-class rep rn than RTD1 almost 2 decades ago.
Martha could've walked around in a northface jacket with half a tub of eco styler on her head and she still would've been great idc!

'She's not allowed to have what she wants bc she's independent' Gag ittt
'Ten should've treated Martha better by acknowledging time travelling as a Black person and not comparing her to Rose' and 'Ten and Martha were an interesting duo by having a doctor x doctor pairing an had some great character moments' and 'RTD's handling of race in s3 was dookie' and 'Martha had great character traits and many Black fans felt seen by her' need to coexist. Because I feel like bc of the way things went down in s3 people think Martha never wanted to travel with Ten AT ALL or she would never wanna travel in space or time ever again. All this 'she hates the Doctor' 'she wouldn't wanna come back' whoa hold on now...
