there was probably a moment in COHF where mark blackthorn decided buying time for his siblings was more critical and feasible than trying to escape the LA institute himself and probably a moment where helen blackthorn went running into the gard to meet her siblings and thought he's dead right on the heels of where's mark? like creating a spark with flint and steel. um! but we're not going to talk about it though

Do you have any Jocelyn & Valentine (+Luke) headcanons?
“You think you can change him, temper him, make him better, because you’re the only thing he cares about,” Jocelyn said. “I know Morgenstern men. It doesn’t work. You’ll regret—” - City of Heavenly Fire
One of the characters said (probably Luke) that if you are truly loved, you are accepted with all the flaws. It seemed to me that Jocelyn was diligently trying to remake Valentine (but, for the sake of the angel, his personality has long been formed under the supervision of his father). She loved the image of Valentine, which she invented in her head, and for a long time lived in the illusion that she was the only and irreplaceable one who could influence him, make him better. She didn't like the real Valentine. (it's funny, only his demonic son could stand the real Valentine, the two monsters met).
But Jocelyn mentioned that if it wasn't for Clary, she might have risked letting Valentine find and own her. Jocelyn definitely has some problems. I'm glad she got Clary-at least something good from her relationship with Valentine. It's strange how this happened at all, considering that even then Jocelyn despised him, that Valentine was sure that she would not want to have children anymore, did not know that she was pregnant, and did not immediately think that Clary was his daughter. Does he not know where children come from, or was he unconscious after a tiring day🙃?
One can understand the reasons for those who joined the Circle. It's hard to understand how Luke and Jocelyn could LOVE Valentine. To claim that he did not immediately become evil. Luke said that he had changed for the worse after the death of his father - Valentine was 17 years old then. I wonder how many years they have been friends, considering that they are already parabatai in "The Evil we love".
“Valentine, I love you and I share your grief,” said Lucian. “I know you are a good man. I know if you stop and think, you will see that this is madness.” - The Last Stand of the New York Institute
(Oh, Luke, Valentine's middle name is madness).
In fact, it seems tedious. Valentine's father died 6 years ago, and all this time Valentine has been killing werewolves under the guise of "grief and revenge", trying to find the pack that killed his father. No wonder Luke got tired of all this.
It seems funny when Luke tells Jace that he knows Valentine better, and then says that Valentine gave everyone a choice - whether you want to be in the circle or not, as if in all the years of friendship with him he did not understand that there is no choice - if you are not in the circle, then you are dead. Even Maryse admitted this (an interesting little thing: Luke disliked Maris for her fanaticism and hatred of the undead - for the same qualities that Valentine possessed!) So, it turns out that Luke wasn't such a close friend of Valentine, because he didn't know him that well.
Or, on the contrary, he saw and realized everything.
“You remember,” she said, “the way he told us that the Uprising would be nothing, hardly a battle, a few unarmed ambassadors against the full might of the Circle. I was so confident in our swift victory that when I rode out to Alicante, I left Alec at home in his cradle. I asked Jocelyn to watch my children while I was away. She refused. I know why now. She knew—and so did you. And you didn’t warn us.” “I’d tried to warn you about Valentine,” said Luke. “You didn’t listen.” “I don’t mean about Valentine. I mean about the Uprising! When we arrived, there were fifty of us against five hundred Downworlders—” - City of Ashes
So, being in the circle, he warned them how dangerous and insane Valentine was? After all, when he became a werewolf, he didn't show himself to anyone except Jocelyn until the Uprising, right.
Valentine said slowly, “Did you not promise me unconditional obedience? Tell me, what use have I for a second-in-command who undermines me like this?” - The Last Stand of the New York Institute
When we listen to Luke's story, it seems like he is very loyal and obedient to Valentine, but it seems that this is not the case.
I kept wondering why Valentine told Luke that Luke had allegedly betrayed him, abandoned him… It doesn't make sense, does it? After all, it is Valentine who is the traitor. but perhaps by betrayal he meant that Luke began to doubt him, in the circle, that he began to spread doubt to the rest of the circle.
"...These werewolves are just strays who broke off from their pack. You and I will go hunting in the werewolf encampment where the real threat lies tonight. We will bring down the pack leader together.” “Together. But tomorrow night. Come back to the house tonight?” Valentine asked in a low voice. “Jocelyn has something to tell you.” Lucian clasped Valentine’s arm, clearly relieved. “Of course. Anything for Jocelyn. Anything for either of you. You know that.” “My friend,” said Valentine, “I do.” Valentine clasped Lucian’s arm in return, but Magnus saw the look Valentine gave Lucian. There was love in that look, but hate as well, and the hate was winning. It was as clear as a silvery shark’s fin in the dark waters of Valentine’s black eyes. There was death in those eyes. - The Last Stand of the New York Institute
You can guess what Jocelyn wants to talk to Luke about -her fear of Valentine, how much he has changed and is beyond any control. But Valentine, even before their conversation, had a mixed feeling of love and hatred for Luke (because Luke is out of control?), and Luke's questions after the conversation with Jocelyn became decisive that it was time to get rid of him
p.s. A moment of sentimentality: it always seemed sweet to me how Valentine calls Luke "my friend" and asks if he's coming home (he doesn't say "will you come to our house" or "won't you come to visit us), as if the house he lives in with Jocelyn also belongs to Luke

I think Tessa’s trauma in TID goes unnoticed often times by the fandom. Sure, we all acknowledge her trauma in TMI and TDA after she lost so many people she loved, but what about the TID Tessa, the one who ALREADY lost who she loved (her parents, Aunt Harriet, and Nate), who decided to leave the only home she ever knew.
THEN, she subsequently gets captured by two creatures she’s heard absolutely nothing about, and is brutally tortured and abused for weeks into using a power she had no idea she possessed- she had no idea even existed in the realm of possibility.
This girl’s world was turned upside down but despite all that, she remained pretty strong and normal throughout TID.
Tessa’s resilience and ability to stay calm and move on is one of the many reasons why she’s one of my favorite TSC characters.

This is HER song and HER song only!
“One day I'm gonna cut it clear
Ride like Paul Revere
And when they ask me who I am
I'll just pretend I didn't hear
It's typical, I fear
Folks just disappear
And when they ask me who I am
I'll say I'm not from around here”
(I’ll also accept The View Between Villages)
Passed Alger Brook Road, I'm over the bridge
A minute from home but I feel so far from it
The death of my dog, the stretch of my skin
It's all washin' over me, I'm angry again
The things that I lost here, the people I knew
They got me surrounded for a mile or two
The car's in reverse, I'm grippin' the wheel
I'm back between villages and everything's still

Do you ever find yourself just sitting and thinking about how hard it must have been to write a family of seven siblings and make them all unique and interesting, yet give them these similar threads that tie them back to one another. And like not only did cassie succeed in that, but all the blackthorns literally go so hard?? Mark being the lost son who doesn’t know how to be who people want him to be and Julian being the boy who had to grow up too fast who’s whole life is his siblings, and when he tries to reach for something that’s just for him it ends up being catastrophic. We’ve got Livvy, the heart of the family and their true north, and Ty, who can’t imagine navigating the world without her. There’s Dru, desperate to be taken seriously and treated like an adult, and Tavvy, who’s younger than his years because of his trauma. Half these characters don’t even have POVs and yet they’re all so alive to me. Forget warlocks and faeries, this right here is the real magic of TDA.
