What we miss and what we gain | 3-Sworn to secrecy
Summary: Nya is weird, the Ninja are stupid and who in the First Realm is Samurai X? ------ aka: Lloyd and Nya bonding chapter hell yeah
crossposted on ao3 and ff.net
Lloyd never liked girls.
They only ever talk about horses and hair, only play with dolls, and don't like getting dirty. Not to mention, they can give you cooties. No, thank you.
He is thankful that there weren't many girls at Darkley's, and the ones that did go to his school he avoided as if his life depended on it.
And this has never been a problem in his life before, or at least that was until he moved to the Destiny's Bounty.
It is bad enough to live in the same enclosed space as these pesky Ninja (minus maybe Zane; he is pretty okay), but when he found out that a girl lived there too?
You might have as well thrown him off the ship, but don't tell Mr. Pineapple-Head that he said that; he might take him up on the offer.
Of course, he stayed on the ship even if it was only for his personal gain of getting shelter and resources, but he does keep a safe distance from the girl — Nya — nonetheless. Learning that she is apparently Kai's sister doesn't make him want to run across her any more either.
Kai is mean and ugly, and he stinks like chemicals from all the hair gel and perfume he puts on all the time. And apples never fall far from the tree, so if Kai is like this, Nya definitely will be too, at least that's the conclusion he comes to.
He doesn't even understand why she is here to begin with. She is a girl! What use is she to a ninja team? Girls can't be ninja! They can't fight!
Yeah, she presses a few buttons in the control room here and there and takes care of the steering wheel, but anyone can do that, really. Even he can. The only reason he doesn't is that he isn't going to help his enemies, is all, and they probably know that if they give him the chance to, he will crash this ship in 5 minutes tops (on purpose, of course).
So maybe they only have her on the team to do the boring little things no one else wants to do; that makes sense, he supposes.
But he can't help feeling like something is wrong with her. She always runs around the ship with some spare parts in her hand when she thinks no one is looking and is just behaving... suspiciously altogether. It is weird. She is weird and he wants nothing to do with her.
Naturally, none of this makes it any better that whenever the Ninja go on their stupid missions, they will leave them alone on the ship together. Even his uncle isn't there most of the time; always busy going on some long journeys to tea shops or whatever it is that old Ninja teachers do in their free time.
He still doesn't understand his uncle's thought process — how he thinks that leaving him with a bunch of stupid teenagers that probably don't even know how to replace a light bulb is a good idea — but he digresses.
During those times when he and Nya are left alone, Lloyd usually stays in his room. He doesn't want to be forced into conversations by her. Girls are good at talking; they are always blabbering. He has more important stuff to do, like stealing the next issue of Starfarer out of the Ninja's room, reading it, and then not giving it back, just like the bigger kids at Darkley's did to him when he used to live there. He likes watching the chaos ensue afterwards as they accuse each other of having lost it, not knowing it was all part of his evil master plan all along.
However, the Ninja being gone gives him many opportunities that he usually doesn't have, and he has to seize those, like getting food from the kitchen with no certain Master of Hairgel leaving dumb remarks as he does so, for example.
He has to weigh his options here, and the conclusion he comes to is that it is worth it to try and steal some food and risk running into Nya if it means he will be able to stay inside his room for at least a week if everything goes to plan.
Sure, Zane now often makes sure he is eating and brings him dinner and whatever to his room, but he doesn't want the other annoying teenagers to think that he is some helpless kid, and he also doesn't want Zane to think he wants or needs his help.
Lloyd Garmadon needs no one. He is perfectly fine fending for himself. He only accepts Zane's help occasionally to make it easier on himself. Evil masterminds need breaks too, after all, and maybe if he keeps the charade up, he will be able to get Zane to pledge loyalty to him. Now that would be something — his own ninja warrior. The thought alone makes him grin.
That will never end up happening; of course, Lloyd knows that. He's not stupid. These Ninja are way too loyal to betray each other like that. What a pity.
Such wasted potential.
------------------------
The first time he goes out of his room and doesn't see Nya anywhere, he doesn't think much of it.
Hey, she probably doesn't want to be associated with him the same way he doesn't want to be associated with her. It is understandable. After all, he is the fearful Son of Garmadon.
------------------------
The second time he notices her disappearance, he thinks it's weird.
It doesn't make sense to him why she always leaves every time the others go on their missions. It isn't like she is actually important enough to fight with them. And even if his first instinct is to guess that she is secretly scheming their downfall and working on some evil plans when they leave, he doesn't think Nya has it in her.
She is definitely one of the good guys; he can tell that even from the few rare interactions he had with her.
------------------------
But the third time she turns up in thin air, he gets suspicious.
He doesn't like not knowing what his enemies are up to, and actually "good" villains are always one step ahead of the so-called "heroes". He hates to admit it, but Nya has the upper hand, and it annoys him.
How is he supposed to take over Ninjago if he lets himself be fooled by some girl?
No, he has to find out what she is up to.
------------------------
The next time the Ninja are called on a mission, it is early in the morning. Lloyd is thankfully already in the control room, watching as the Ninja hurry like chickens to get dressed. It's a pitiful sight. How these idiots are supposed to defeat his father, the Lord Garmadon of all people, is above him.
Out of the corner of his eye, he watches Nya closely; her eyes reflect a look he can't quite pinpoint before she leaves the room, and Lloyd is smart enough to wait a few seconds before following her so as not to raise any suspicion.
He follows her silently through the corridors of the bounty until they reach a dead end. He quickly hides behind a cabinet as she turns around to probably check if someone followed her.
He closes his eyes, his lips already forming a grin. This is it. Now he will get her all figured out, and he can ruin whatever she is up to.
Blonde locks and red eyes peek out from behind the cabinet slowly, and his breath hitches at the sight of the all-but-empty corridor.
How— When— She was right there! How did she just disappear?
He stomps his foot with a huff; the wood quietly creaks with every step he takes towards where the girl just stood, but there is nothing left. Not even a tiny clue as to where she might've gone.
He swallows down a scream. Stupid Ninja. Stupid Nya. He'll get her next time!
------------------------
To his dismay, the next few days go by painfully uneventfully.
No serpentine attacks, no robberies, no villains — no excuse for the Ninja to buzz off and for him to catch Nya with whatever she is so obviously trying to hide.
It also means that he is running into the Ninja more often while he tries to shadow Nya, which almost makes him want to stop his investigation entirely. But no, he won't be defeated by a girl or some stupid boys picking fights with children half their age.
And it turns out that perhaps having the Ninja around isn't as hindering as he thought it would be.
"I can't believe you actually think you're going to be the Green Ninja!" He can hear Cole's laughter coming from the kitchen.
"Sure I am! I'm telling you, if anyone finds out the identity of Samurai X, it is me! And whoever finds out the identity of Samurai X is—"
"—Going to be the Green Ninja, blah blah. We've got it, Kai. It's funny, though, how you think it's going to be you—"
"—Laugh all you want, but you won't find it so funny anymore when I kick your butt in my awesome Green Gi!"
What's a 'Samurai X'? And what in the first realm is the 'Green Ninja'?
------------------------
It is moments like these where he appreciates the resources this ship has, he thinks as he's typing on the computer in the control room. His eyes scan the hundreds of articles about a certain 'Samurai X'.
Apparently, the guy has saved the Ninja countless times by now, but nobody knows who he is. He comes flying in his big mech, saves the day, and then leaves as fast as he arrived.
And he kicks butt. Just from the few videos he could find on the Ninternet, he can tell that the vigilante is a force to be reckoned with. He'd definitely defeat the Ninja with ease if he wasn't so keen on helping them out.
He can't help but grin quietly to himself. Of course the Ninja needed help from some secret guy; it doesn't surprise him with all their shining incompetence.
But apparently not even the Ninja know the identity of this Samurai-dude, to the point where they placed a bet on it, which is suspicious enough. What does this person have to hide if they have to keep their identity secret?
It is at this moment that a light bulb seems to turn on inside his head, and an idea comes to mind.
If he manages to figure out the identity of Samurai X, he can have him join his side, and they can partner up against the Ninja together! Not only that, but he would also ruin their stupid Green Ninja bet as well! He still couldn't find anything about this 'Green Ninja' on the internet, so it was probably something they had made up themselves anyway; it would still make him jump in victory to destroy it for them, regardless.
But how silly is that? Making up a title for a bet.
Though now he finds himself standing in front of a difficult decision. He can try to figure out who Samurai X is and turn him to his side, but for him to be able to focus on said task, he will have to give up his investigation on whatever Nya is up to, or he will figure out what Nya is hiding and postpones his mission on finding the Samurai, risking that the Ninja will figure out his identity before he does—
Oh, who is he kidding? The Ninja probably couldn't even figure out the identity of the Samurai if it was right in front of their noses. There is really no risk in going after Nya first. He will have her secret figured out in no time anyways.
So it is decided.
First, he will find out what Nya is up to, and then he is going to figure out who Samurai X is and make him his henchman.
That sounds like a plan.
------------------------
Nya is harder to keep up with than he originally gave her credit for. One second she will be right next to him, and the next she will be on the other side of the ship, (probably laughing at one of Jay's stupid jokes. Ew.). He just has to do so much as blink and suddenly she's gone.
Lloyd almost catches himself thinking that she would make a good Ninja. Almost.
And apparently, Lloyd wouldn't make a good Ninja, not that he would ever want to be one. Wearing pyjamas and fighting for "justice" isn't exactly his style, you know? However, a ninja's stealth skills would really come in handy right now—
"Are you following me?" Nya asks, quickly turning around, mechanic tools in hand, as she stares at him with a raised eyebrow. In a way, she reminds him of her older brother; their similarities are eerily obvious.
Lloyd laughs, but it's not confident like he'd anticipated; instead, it's choking and nervous. "Me? No, Why would I?"
He definitely didn't sell his part well enough. Nya is still staring at him like a statue; her expression remains stoic. Has she even blinked since she turned around? She places her hand on her hip.
"Yeah, sure, you know I've noticed you sneaking around behind my back, you know? What are you up to?"
"I'm up to nothing!" He huffs, turning around and stomping away, leaving Nya calling his name. It's excruciatingly obvious to him right now how childishly he is behaving, but he doesn't care.
How could he have been so stupid? Letting himself get caught during such an easy mission is for rookies! How is he supposed to find out what the true identity of Samurai X is if he can't even figure out the secret of some 13-year-old girl that he lives with?
Stupid, stupid, stupid!
Stupid Lloyd Garmadon. Stupid Samurai. Stupid Nya. Stupid—
A hand grabs his wrist, hindering him from moving forward, and he looks up to find Nya's hazel eyes shining in sympathy.
"You don't have to run away, Lloyd; I'm not mad."
He almost wants to scream. This is what people always say when they're mad. They get you to feel all safe and secure until you tell them what they want to hear, and then you get punished with fire ants in your bed or being whipped with a stick.
Lloyd is already familiar with this game from Darkley's. His teachers were great at it.
"Don't lie to me! I know you're—"
"—A bit annoyed maybe, but not mad," Nya finishes his sentence, taking his hands in hers and kneeling down to his height. "I know you and my brother don't really get along, but believe me when I say that I have nothing against you. So talk to me, Lloyd. What's up?"
It is at this point that Lloyd's mind seems to split in two and starts fighting itself.
His heart wants to stay with her and tell her everything that's bothering him because, despite what he thought Nya seemed— like, she seemed so nice. Her voice is soft while she speaks in a way that is unfamiliar to him, and it makes his heart fill up with an emotion he can't quite place. It makes him want to cry, but at the same time, it feels so warm and so good.
His brain, however, is yelling at him with all the force in the world. Begging him to come to his senses and run. To abort the mission and try again another day. It's screaming at him to re-establish the safe distance he usually holds before he gets hurt and is left alone again.
So Lloyd does exactly that. He runs.
------------------------
Thankfully, Nya doesn't follow him to his room, probably accepting that he was beyond any help.
Good, he thinks, Because he doesn't want to talk to her anyway. He keeps telling himself that even as the stinging in his heart doesn't subside. He wants to be alone.
He only wants to find out what she was hiding and then ruin it. Perhaps snitch on her to the other Ninja in order to break their trust completely too. He doesn't want to befriend her or whatever. Yikes.
No, he is going to successfully spy on her and find out her secret. Then he'll find Samurai X and destroy the Ninja. That is how things will go. No befriending sisters of the enemy on the way.
------------------------
He realises that when you actually put your mind to something, you get a lot better at it.
He's been shadowing Nya's every move for a week or so now, and no one has noticed so far. Or at least no one has said anything to him, which he takes as a win. Having no one care about you and being practically treated like air does have its benefits.
He watches from behind a drawer as the Red Ninja walks towards his target person. His stomach sinks at the sight of his arch-nemesis, and his hands form fists. He definitely can't let himself be caught now, who knows what he will say if he catches Lloyd spying on them? Perhaps call him a 'demon-spawn'? Or maybe a pain in the butt
Kai grins innocently, and Lloyd swears it just makes him even uglier than he normally is, and he didn't know that was possible.
"Nya, I was looking for you— Oh, what do you have there?" He nods his head at the pile of red-tinted metal in her arms. Nya suddenly goes white.
"What? This? Oh, this is for... Uhm—"
Kai's raised eyebrows and questioning expression relax quickly as he smiles. "Are you building your big brother a sick mech?"
"Y-yeah! It was supposed to be a surprise, but I guess you got me now," she says with her voice too nervous to be speaking the truth, but Kai is apparently too self-centred to care or notice.
"You're the best sister ever!" he exclaims, placing a kiss on her cheek. Lloyd winces. Gross. She's going to need so much disinfectant— "Well then, I don't wanna hold you back anymore from your tinkering! Have fun!"
And with that, he is off, leaving an obviously perplexed and nervous Nya in the hallway.
Interesting.
------------------------
It isn't long after their encounter that Lloyd realizes just how Nya manages to always seemingly disappear at a certain dead end in the hallways of the Destiny's Bounty. It really shouldn't have taken him so long to figure it out, but hey, nobody is perfect and you learn from your mistakes after all, and who would have guessed that the bracelet she has been wearing the entire time can unlock a secret room?
He watches in shock as the wooden floors creak and reveal a trail of stairs. How could he possibly miss this?
Perhaps she is a villain after all. A secret lair in the home of the heroes does seem like an evil thing, and even if it is not evil, it is at least suspicious. And if she is evil, then he will definitely applaud her for even fooling him into thinking she was one of the good guys.
Nya hurries into the newly appeared hallway, and Lloyd almost misses his cue to follow her; the door shuts closed right as he manages to jump inside.
The staircase is dark, only slightly illuminated by cheap LED light strips on the ceiling. How she hasn't fallen down yet is a mystery. Or maybe she has. How would he know?
He's careful to make his way down quietly. He's so close to uncovering the truth, and he will not waste an opportunity like thi—
His thoughts come to an immediate halt when he enters what he identifies as the crime scene.
Huh.
It seems like he killed two birds with one stone.
The Samurai X mech is bigger than he thought it would be, and the true identity of the vigilante is more surprising than he anticipated it to be. He isn't sure when exactly his birthday is, but it must be today. There was no way the universe would throw a surprise like that into his lap.
"You?" he calls out as he sees an all too familiar person holding the helmet of the Samurai he has seen in so many of the articles during his research.
The person goes rigid but turns around to face him, and it is at this point that Lloyd has to throw out all his plans of getting the Samurai to fight with him against the Ninja or congratulating Nya for turning to villainy. He somehow gets the feeling that the girl dressed up in the armour isn't just cosplaying, and, even if it makes him sick to his stomach, her motives behind vigilantism are probably more pure than he had hoped for. Just like her brother. How annoying.
"Lloyd— You— How—" she stammers, stepping back slightly before apparently thinking of a story to tell him. She laughs nervously as she speaks, "Uh, this is my— Uh, fan... room! Yeah, my fan room!"
"Your... 'fan room'."
"Yeah! I'm such a big Samurai X fan that I recreated their mech! And armour! Don't tell Kai, he'll get all jealous—" She rushes her words while grabbing Lloyd's shoulder and trying to push him towards the exit.
He gives her an unimpressed stare. "You really expect me to believe that? I'm not stupid. You're Samurai X."
Nya's fake grin deflates, and her shoulders sink. She sighs, but she doesn't argue with him about it anymore, which tells Lloyd that he's right, which means that—
Oh, FSM, Nya is Samurai X.
The realisation only really kicks in now. Everything makes so much more sense! Why she was running around the Bounty with all these spare parts, why she always left when the Ninja went on missions, and how Samurai X always knew where they had to go. Everything makes sense now, except that nothing makes sense about this.
Nya is a girl. She can't possibly have done this all by herself and even bested the Ninja at their own game! Could she? Oh, how upset the others will be when they find out!
He grins menacingly. "The guys are gonna freak when I tell them about this—"
"—No! Please don't tell them, Lloyd! Please!" Nya begs him, grabbing his wrists. Her eyes shine with tears, and something inside of him twists uncomfortably in response. He has never heard Nya sound so desperate. Okay, fairly, he didn't exactly hold many conversations with her himself so far, but from his weeklong investigation, he noticed just how stoic the girl can be; she always held her head high and her voice strong. The contrast is heartbreaking. "Please, Lloyd, I did this all by myself! It's the first thing I actually did on my own. If Kai finds out I'm Samurai X, he will never leave me alone again!"
He bites his lip painfully, aware of how she feels. She wants to prove herself. He gets that. He's not a monster.
"I—" he says breathlessly, looking to the ground because he can't bear seeing the look in her eyes. Well, what do I get in return, then?" He asks halfheartedly. There is nothing she can offer that is of interest to him, and he's not even sure he still wants to tell on her anymore. Her tearful eyes and shaky voice sort of took the fun out of that one already.
"You can spend time here if you want?" Lloyd raises an eyebrow. Why in the First Realm would he ever want to— "You wanna be a supervillain, right? I can teach you how to build mechs and everything. It's important knowledge if you wanna take over the world, don't you think?"
Mmh. He does think that sounds logical, even if Nya's voice doesn't sound like she actually wants to help him with getting better at villainy. Lloyd doesn't care what her motives are, though. She can think whatever she wants; he's going to seize this opportunity so he can take over Ninjago in a cool mech.
Who needs henchmen when you can have machines do your dirty work for you?
"Fine," he nods. "We will do it this way then: You teach me about building mechs, and I keep your secret in return. But if you don't keep up your end, I will tell everyone."
"I would expect nothing less."
------------------------
Despite his assumptions, Nya doesn't talk as much as he assumed she would, being a girl and all. Their weekly meet-ups go by pretty uneventfully, with Nya only really talking to him about mechanical stuff, something about screwdrivers and sock drivers (he's still not sure how socks can drive and what that has to do with building a mech, but he's sure he'll find out as he continues). She also shows him how to wire, but if he's entirely honest, he's forgotten most of it again by now.
But it's not his fault he keeps falling asleep during their sessions! It's not his fault Nya is so boring because it definitely doesn't have anything to do with how soothing her voice is to him, 'cause it isn't. She's boring, and Lloyd would rather be anywhere else than stuck with her.
And if he does seek out her company on days when they weren't supposed to sit in the secret workshop together, that is no one's business but his own.
"See, and then you connect these two wires and—" The voice halts, and Lloyd can feel a glare on his skin that wasn't there a second ago. He sits up straight, suddenly jerking awake. "Are you even listening?"
"'Am I even listening?' Of course not; this is boring! Can't we do something actually interesting?"
"Like?"
"Like building a candy gun and... shooting civilians with it?"
Nya grimaces. "Wouldn't shooting at civilians with candy be sort of wasteful, though?"
He sighs. There goes his awesome idea.
"We can still build a candy gun, though. Just promise to shoot Kai with it for me."
Lloyd gives her a fang-showing grin. Perhaps she's not that boring.
------------------------
"So maybe I find him funny? What of it? It's not like it's illegal to laugh at someone's jokes!"
"His jokes aren't even funny, though! Stop lying to yourself and just admit you like him."
"I don't like him."
"Mhm. And I'm the Green Ninja."
"I hate you."
------------------------
"Nya and Jay, sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n—"
"Can you stop it already?"
------------------------
The boy is not quite sure why he started seeking out Nya's company. Maybe it's because she's one of the few people who actually let him be. While Zane apparently tolerates him too, for some reason unbeknownst to him, he usually spends most of his time with the other Ninja, and in no realm will he ever put himself in their company if he can help it.
Or maybe it is because Nya radiated a certain warmth that he so desperately lacked so far.
Whatever it is, he finds himself seeking out her company before he knows it, and it's a scary conclusion to come to that maybe he was wrong about somebody once again and had judged them too quickly based on nothing except hearsay, really. It's scary because now he actually has to question whether anything he believes might be wrong. It shatters his worldview and leaves him in a weird limbo. If Zane and Nya are different than he originally assumed, who's to say the others aren't as well? It's not like he's really given them a chance or reason to be nice to him so far. What if he's the problem? It's not unlikely. He's good at pushing people away until they leave him. Just like his mother.
His stomach turns at the thought.
What does he really know? Is anything he believes for certain? What if he has actually been wrong all along, and maybe the ninja were actually good good, but that would also make his father actually bad by extension, would it not? And Lloyd has trouble believing that, even if he hasn't met his father in person, at least they communicated in the Shadows or through cards sent by Skulkins during his time in Darkleys, and a bad person wouldn't do that, right? He would never hurt someone purposefully, right?
Could he be a good father but a bad person at the same time? Or has it all been an act so far? Maybe that is why his father hasn't reached out to him in a long while; maybe he is actually evil. He wants to believe this because the contrary would mean that he drove him away too, and he's not sure his conscience can take that burden as well. He's not sure his heart could take his entire worldview shifting and shattering either, though.
"You're awfully quiet today," Nya says, walking over to where he sits on the side, staring mindlessly at the mech she just worked on. "What's up?"
The blonde bites his lip. How is he supposed to simply explain all the thoughts running through his head?
"It's... I don't know. I guess I'm just questioning a lot of things right now."
"Wow, an existential crisis at six years old already?"
"I'm eight."
"Could've fooled me." Nya puts a hand around his shoulders, and he can't help but lean into her touch. The gesture grounds him, making the emotions run through him at a much slower pace. "You can always talk to me, you know?"
"I—" He breathes in sharply. He doesn't know what to say. He just wants to go back to how things were when he lived on the streets. At least he didn't have to question his motives and ideas all the time back then. At least he knew who and what he wanted to be. Now, he's not so sure about that anymore. "Do you think my dad is evil? Like, actually, actually evil?" He asks and sees Nya's face go a slight shade paler as if the thought of Lord Garmadon itself makes her anxious.
This settles it then.
To his surprise, Nya's answer is not as black and white as he thought it would be. "I don't think anyone is only bad or only good. Everyone has a good and a bad side, you know? Sure, your dad has done some bad stuff— really awful stuff, actually— but I'm sure he's also done some good before... Even if I don't know what those good things are," she winces slightly, noticing that maybe this isn't the most comforting thing she could have said to him. Considering Lloyd's expression, she was right.
She sighs.
"Listen, I'm not good at this, but—he's your dad, and you love him, and that is perfectly fine. I bet you know him differently than I do. This would be a better question to ask your mom, maybe?"
"I don't have a mom; she left me when I was little," he admits quietly but loud enough for Nya to hear, and he's sure she is going to laugh at him now just like how the other kids at Darkleys laughed at him when they found out.
But Nya's heart sinks at this moment as she looks at the child who reminds her a bit too much of herself all those years ago. Except she is luckier than him and has had it easier; she had Kai to take care of her, while this kid — Lloyd — is all alone in this world, and FSM she just watched as the others picked on him, on a child that is all alone in a strange environment. She can't help but feel like punching herself in the gut.
The blond can feel himself being pulled into a hug, and he can't find it in himself to push her away, no matter how much the gesture takes him by surprise. He's never been held by someone like this before. It's nice.
"I'm sorry," she murmurs into his hair, and he grips the back of her shirt as if his life depended on it. "I don't have a mom either, you know? It's been just Kai and me for as long as I remember."
"Really? How'd you turn out so great, then?" He sniffles into her shirt, and Nya laughs wetly.
"He's not that bad when you get to know him. He's like a coconut, hard on the outside and soft on the inside, you know?"
He gives her an unimpressed stare from where he lies on her chest. "A coconut?"
"A coconut."
He somehow has trouble believing her. The Kai he knows is a big meanie and picks on kids half his size (himself, he's talking about himself) in the hallway of the flying ship they're residing in. He's self-centred and never has a nice word to share. Believing that he has a soft side to him is like believing that the sky is green and ghosts are real — it's absurd.
But at the same time, it seems like his opinions on most people on this ship have been wrong so far, so he's not going to completely disregard the possibility of the Fire Ninja not being a complete jerk.
He pushes her away softly, vulnerability suddenly becoming very present in his mind. There he goes, breaking every rule in the book. He even told her about his mother!
But as Nya smiles down at him, his heart finally wins the endless fight over his brain. He can't help but think he's done the right thing by letting Nya in. By gaining another friend.
"You're a good kid, Lloyd. They'll see that too eventually, just like I did."
His heart warms at that, and they continue to sit in silence, just enjoying each other's company. His head falls onto her shoulder once more, but it's not his fault that Nya is so comfortable.
She hums a quiet melody, and he can't stop his eyes from fluttering shut and drifting off. With Nya by his side, he knows he doesn't have to worry about anything happening. And if anything happened, Nya could kick butt in classic Samurai X style while Lloyd could cheer her on. If he is safe somewhere, it is with her.
He supposes this is what home feels like.

People complain about Lloyd beating up crystal zombies as out of character but this same guy beat the shit out of serpentine in s4 to calm himself down and then in DR he beat the shit out of the rock folk with no thought behind it
He really just be throwing punches 😭 he is not afraid to get down and dirty especially when he is in emotional turmoil
