Armin paused and his horsed reared as a person crawled out of the bushes, kicking his front legs up in the air. Luckily, Armin was quick to calm the horse down before it hurt the stranger. “Whoa! Easy Boy, calm down.” Armin said, patting his mane.

His eyes scanned down to the stranger. Normally, he wasn’t one to judge, but he could tell from the tattered clothes that the stranger was a peasant. “Oh my, are you hurt, good sir? You look absolutely dreadful.”

The blond briefly considered bringing him home, but certainly, his mother and father wouldn’t approve. Instead he reached in his bag and pulled out some bread an an apple.

“You must be hungry.” He said. “Please take these.” he offered them to the stranger with a smile.

Upon getting a proper look at the rider, Eren noticed he was probably around his own age. What was the sheltered idiot doing here? He didn’t back away from the panicking horse, and the stranger quickly calmed his beast down.

Eren chewed on the inside of his cheek. It was a moment before he responded. “I’m not hurt,” his voice was sullen and he didn’t know why he felt so offended about the comment to his appearance. He wasn’t going to give the other the satisfaction though!

With a roll of his eyes, which was friendlier than he cared to give normally, he responded with a witty, “You shouldn’t just give away your snacks when you haven’t eaten yourself”, instead of reaching out to take it.

He didn’t wish to sound ungrateful, but his sudden self-respect was making it hard to accept help.

Eren sighed heavily before shaking his head. “It doesn’t matter anymore, Marco,” Eren insisted firmly, making sure Marco saw the sincere look in his eyes. “I didn’t hold it against you, and I never will. We have lost enough already, let’s not focus on the other hurt as well.”
