This is my favorite scene in Watching and Dreaming. And I personally think Amity is making a cute face to ask Luz for a kiss. After a long and tough battle, nothing is better than being in the arms of her loved one.
Tumblr media
Me and my friend have worked together to draw Amity's full expression. We're both inexperienced in drawing so if you have some tips and constructive advice, please let me know.
Tumblr media
Btw, during Lesbian Visibility Week, I want to express how much I adore Amity Blight through this drawing. I love her character and how she helps me realize more about myself.
Happy Lesbian Visibility Week to all incredible lesbians ❤❤❤

Luz’s Near “Dissection”
So, something I still see quite often is people bringing this scene up to attack Amity’s early character and even Principal Bump’s, and while I agree that there’s a lot to critique about her behavior in this episode and in others, this scene in particular is not a valid point against her morality, early or otherwise, and here is why.
I present to you my essay: neither Principal Bump or Amity had any intention of actually dissecting Luz, for the love of god–
Tumblr media
Firstly, let’s talk about the context of this scene. Amity’s not been having a good day, to put it lightly; someone has taken her Top Student badge, something she probably prizes, and that someone was Willow, the person who cannot under any circumstances ever beat Amity, lest the world stop implode in on itself, or something. That is her mentality.
To a point, her reaction is understandable–Willow did cheat to get her badge by using Luz, and Amity knows it, even if Professor Hermonculus didn’t realize that himself. So when she’s sent to Principal Bump’s office, Amity has time to think things through. She can’t keep acting like how she’s been because everyone is perceiving her as crazy, so she probably calms down a tad.
Tumblr media
With this line, a lot of context is to be found as well. Amity was indeed sent to Principal Bump’s office, but she was able to convince Bump that Luz is not an Abomination; rather, an intruder helping Willow cheat (and, I mean, she’s not wrong). Something that Bump would probably want to check out himself, given that we now know that he genuinely cares for his students.
Tumblr media
Of course, this scene is being played somewhat as another culture shock for Luz; while Willow and Gus are concerned about the potential dissection, neither of them are acting as if it was never an option, and Luz is rightfully terrified, but while the Boiling Isles and Hexside’s culture may be accepting of near-dissections, I highly doubt Bump at least would ever do it to someone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean, come on. Look at Bump’s face. Look at Amity’s face. They’re both being so ridiculously smug, because they both know full well that Luz is not an Abomination. Bump gives Willow the knife, “allows her the first cut,” because he and Amity are trying to get Willow to confess.
It’s mean, maybe, but it’s also fucking funny; they’re trying to trap Willow in her lie, get her to admit that she snuck someone inside Hexside in order to get a better grade.
Bump isn’t ever going to legitimately dissect Luz, because he knows that Willow won’t.
Tumblr media
Notice: “The intruder.” First of all, that’s next episode, Bump. He calls Luz an intruder, something you would call someone who’s broken in and poses a legitimate threat. He may know she’s a human, he may not, but either way, she’s not a witch nor a demon, and she’s a potential danger.
And Principal Bump protects his students.
Tumblr media
Even the fact that Luz is banned is, ironically, a point to how protective Principal Bump is of his students. He doesn’t ban Luz because he hates humans, he bans Luz because her being there put students in danger, caused disruption and such (much like Eda <3). Of course, he doesn’t have all context, but he’s perfectly willing to renegotiate with Eda later, because he’s a good man.

Lumity love language is so cute!
Two small Lumity details I love
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. The fact that they canonically send each other a bunch of hearts when texting?? These two are lovestruck dorks who even during the end of the world will be super sappy and its the cutest thing ever
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. In clouds on the horizon when Luz is looking at the tamagachi communication thing..(is there a name for it??) and Luz says ‘the language of love’ after Eda asks what language it is
something about Luz calling her and Amitys emoji language 'the language of love' is so sweet and adorable (Also i have decided that her saying this was her way of saying she loves Amity)
they are just the cutest i love how sappy and in love they are

AMITY'S WARMING UP TO LUZ ISN'T RUSHED OR FORCED AT ALL. (Part 2)
3. Lost in Language,
In that episode, Edric and Emira bully Amity by stalking her to know her secret hideaway, trespassing her privacy, and taking her diary away to revenge her. And when Amity looks upset and runs away, they just continue to laugh and dismiss Amity's feelings and even blame her for ‘killing the fun.” Worse, they let their sister leave and don't even bother to follow her, instead they just go away to have fun. Edric and Emira are Amity's siblings, they're related by blood, they grow up together for many years. They have conflicts but there were moments they still cared for each other. Yet, in that episode, they don't treat her as well as Luz, a stranger from another realm who doesn't know much about Amity, not to mention they had conflicts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Hypothetically, Luz could just have her revenge by allowing the twins to take Amity's diary. But no, she tries to get the diary back, refuses the twins’ invitation and goes after Amity to clear things up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Luz risks herself to save Amity from Otabin instead of leaving her behind. Luz also gives Amity hope and keeps trying to escape Otabin when Amity says they'll be stuck forever.
Tumblr media
- And when Amity looks sad, Luz comes closer and gives her a smile to cheer her up.
Tumblr media
- Luz acknowledges her mistake of seeing Amity's diary even though it's accidentally. She even offers to lend Amity her favorite book.
Tumblr media
So from just two episodes, we can conclude that:
- Luz is the only one caring about Amity more than her family, her mentor, and self-claimed number one fans.
- Luz is the only one who cares for Amity despite Amity's harsh attitude at first.
- Luz is the only one who sympathizes with Amity when she's at her worst.
- Luz never gives up on Amity despite how many times Amity pushes her away.
- When the whole world turns against Amity, even Amity herself, Luz is the only one who tries to help her.
Do you think everything Luz does in just those 2 short episodes is enough to get Amity to warm up?
For me, it is.

AMITY'S WARMING UP TO LUZ ISN'T RUSHED OR FORCED AT ALL. (Part 1)
At first, I used to think that Amity warms up to Luz so quickly because it happens after 2 episodes, but later, I think the opposite. The focus isn't the time length, it is what Luz does for Amity in that short time.
1. Amity doesn't outright hate or despise Luz.
People think Amity stops hating Luz is rushed because they think Amity truly hates Luz and Amity is a vindictive and spiteful person at that time.
In fact, Amity's feelings are more complex than that, not to mention her encounter with Luz at that time has 2 big misunderstandings: the cheating accident at the Covention and the diary incident..
- Furthermore, Amity has had a high opinion of Luz since the Covention. Luz and Amity aren't magic prodigies, and they have to try hard to learn magic, so Amity can relate to her to some extents.
Tumblr media
- Amity looks a bit remorseful when she tells Luz to go away. She even reaches her hand out a little.
Tumblr media
- Amity says that she has been trying to figure out what Luz's real intention was since the misunderstandings make her feel mixed. Amity doesn't know whether Luz wants to be her friend or embarass her. Amity acknowledges that Luz has good intentions like trying to comfort her at the Covention and apologizes, but at the same time, Amity's trouble is involved with Luz's presence. Amity's feelings are complex, she feels annoyed with Luz, but at the same time she doesn't hate Luz to bits.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Once the misunderstanding is resolved, it's logical Amity won't hate Luz as much as before.
2. Covention.
- During the duel, Luz could choose to let Amity continue to step on the spikes so she could win and continue to learn magic. However, she doesn't care about winning, she just doesn't want Amity to get hurt, even though Amity is her biggest rival at that time.
Tumblr media
- Everyone, including the so-called Amity's number-one fans even believe that she really cheats on purpose. Only Luz trusts Amity, and only Luz reaches out to Amity while no one does.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Luz can just leave Amity alone and believe that Amity cheated like anyone else but she chooses to follow Amity and comfort her, something no one does, not even her mentor Lilith who guides and knows her longer than Luz or her number-one fans.
Tumblr media
- Luz is passionate with magic, she's adamant with her opinion that humans can do magic and humans can be witches. She stands with this opinion so strongly that she even challenges Amity to a witches’ duel for this. But when Amity seems to have a breakdown, Luz willingly admits that she isn't a witch. Maybe she just wants Amity to feel better, along with how Luz finally realizes that being a witch as a human isn't all sunshine and rainbows.

Amity is one of the people who understands Luz the most (Part 3).
After the King's Tide event, Luz is in one of her worst moments. Despite this, Amity is always there to be her biggest comfort. There are several times Amity can know how Luz is feeling even though Luz doesn't even directly say anything.
8. Thanks to Them
8.1.
Amity is the only one noticing how Luz always blames herself when the group failed to build the Portal Door.
Tumblr media
Though Luz doesn't even verbally say that, but from seeing Luz slouches down, Amity understands all.
Tumblr media
8.2. This is my favorite moment.
Just from one glance at Luz's eyes, Amity immediately knows how much Luz misses the Boiling Isles and how she wishes to do magic again.
Tumblr media
So Amity does the light glyph and lets Luz lift it up as if she was doing magic as well. Amity wants Luz to feel like she can still do magic despite being in the Human Realm. Amity also wants Luz to feel connected to the Boiling Isles and feel hopeful that they can return to the Boiling Isles and fix everything.
Tumblr media
8.3.
Amity is the one coming up with the idea of the HayRide when she sees the poster that Luz drops on the floor. Luz doesn't say anything about that, yet Amity knows that Luz needs a break from everything. Amity wants Luz to be happy and enjoy cosplaying as her favorite character.
Tumblr media
8.4.
When the truth is revealed, Amity is sympathetic and understanding of Luz's side. She reassures Luz that she doesn't hate her, which helps Luz feel less insecure since being hated by everyone is Luz's biggest fear at that time.
Tumblr media
Amity also appreciates how Luz never gives up and always fights for them.
Tumblr media
9. For the Future.
Amity understands Luz's struggling to connect with her Palisman right after seeing Luz laying in the nest with Stringbean in the egg form.
Tumblr media
When Luz pulls away from the kiss, Amity doesn't press Luz any further like asking why Luz does that or coming closer. She doesn't even get angry or sulky at Luz and storm away. Instead, Amity just stays still and changes the subject. She understands that Luz needs space.
Tumblr media
And she also knows the reason why Luz comes to that room and Luz's biggest concern, which is saving Eda and King.

Amity is one of the people who understands Luz the most. (Part 2)
5. Follies at the Coven's Day:
Amity respects Luz's privacy and believes that Luz has her own reasons why she doesn't tell her about what happened. The fact that Amity doesn't invade Luz's privacy shows how respectful and understanding she is towards Luz.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amity even knows Luz would do something risky on Coven's Day so she follows Luz to make sure she's safe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. Reaching Out:
About Luz's secret, as an attentive person, Amity quickly catches on that it has something to do with the Human Realm.
Tumblr media
When Luz looks depressed that she doesn't have flowers for her father, Amity offers to get flowers and does the ritual with Luz. It feels like she understands what Luz wants even though Luz doesn't even ask her to do that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7. Clouds on the Horizon:
This is not just simply that Amity knows what Luz will say, but also a part of Luz's personality. Luz is strong, optimistic and never gives up until she finds the solutions to fix everything.

Amity is one of the people who understands Luz the most. (Part 1)
1. Convention:
Amity seems to understand how passionate and persistent Luz is with learning magic although she's a human. Because she's right, Luz works so hard to find more glyphs, creating glyph combos and trains many times.
Tumblr media
2. Wing It like Witches:
Amity helps Luz make amends with Willow and Gus by explaining Luz's side and the reason why she made mistakes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amity even gives the hair clip to Willow to indicate Luz's remorse of what she did.
Tumblr media
Even though Luz says that she'll face Boscha alone, Amity knows that Luz still needs her friends to help her, which is also true.
Tumblr media
3. Escaping Expulsion:
Just from the Abomination's cat ears, Amity immediately realizes Luz has gotten involved with her parents.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Eclipse Lake:
After clearing up misunderstanding, Amity comes to the realization about how Luz loves her unconditionally and Luz would never break up with her even if she makes mistakes. Luz cares about her well-being more than her achievements.

LUZ ALWAYS KEEPS HER PROMISES TO AMITY.
1. Luz risks a lot to get Amity's job back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luz keeps her promise till the end, not only because she's a reliable person but also her affection for Amity. Luz knows how important the library job is to Amity, and the library is also the place where the two start to make amends after Otabin's incident. It is implied that Luz really fights tooth and nail, as you can see that there are scratches on her face and arms. Her clothes are also torn with some burnt spots.
2. Luz promises Amity to take her out on a mundane date.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite feeling depressed after the King's Tide event, Luz still tries her best to spend time with her girlfriend from cute milkshake date to swimming one. Luz also makes sure to help Amity feel better after the whole event and get used to the temporary life in the Human Realm.
3. Luz keeps the promise of not hiding her emotions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- When Amity approaches Luz to ask her about how she's feeling, Luz is honest with everything. She confesses to Amity about her desire to connect with her Palisman and her insecurity of making mistakes. When Amity shows Luz the picture of her, Eda and King, Luz expresses her wanting to save Eda and King no matter what it takes.
- At Hexside, Luz is about to tell Amity about her intention of staying at the Human Realm forever then Kikimora interrupts them. She takes the initiative to tell Amity the truth, and doesn't hide things anymore.

Amity Hasn’t Lost Her Personality
Amity didn’t lose her personality after Season 1; she found it. I am genuinely baffled by people who seem to think she has become flat or just “the love interest.“
When people say they “miss Season 1 Amity,” it’s strange to me, because the Amity we see in Season 1A isn’t the real Amity. It’s a mask personality she constructed after being forced to by Odalia.
All that ambition and aggressive competitiveness was something that ODALIA wanted. Amity dropped it so fast, almost immediately after Episode 7, because it’s not her  true nature. Like it or not, Amity’s real personality includes her being a nerdy, awkward teenage girl. Thanks to Them shows her at some of her freest moments, and what is she doing while being so happy? She’s trying out fashion, falling flat on her face, watching silly movies with her friends, doing “cringey” couples costumes with her girlfriend…all very typical interests of a girl in her demographic.
Yes, she’s an abomination prodigy and she is epic in fight scenes, but other than that, she’s really not all that “special.” And that’s good!
Amity WANTS to be a basic teen. All of her happiest moments are in the silly, quiet things. Volunteering at the library, reading to kids, doing cheesy tunnel of love rides…these things are what make her most joyful.
And yeah, she’s obsessed with Luz. EVERY teenager is obsessed with their significant other when they first get in a relationship. It’s not a writing issue; it’s a very realistic depiction of what someone would do in her situation, especially given Luz is someone who gives her unconditional love and actively enjoys her dorkiness, something she hasn’t had since being friends with Willow.
We expect this larger than life character, someone who is always cool and competent, an edgy badass. Sometimes she is that way, but she’s not all the time. Why do we want her to always be like that, or even worse, to be the mean girl persona her entire arc was about escaping from?
I for one absolutely adore Amity in Thanks to Them, I would go as far as to say Thanks to Them shows Amity at her best. One of the things TOH does so well is capture the awkwardness of teenagers; even when they are facing world-ending issues they’re still  dorks and they make weird faces in photos.
There is nothing wrong with being an average dumbass teen. It’s really all Amity’s ever wanted, a life free from expectations and ambition. She doesn’t want to be a prodigy, she wants to be a kid. And in Thanks to Them, she gets to be a kid. So yeah, she doesn’t “do” much, but she’s happy.
We as a society are so afraid of being cringe, and it’s stifling us. People worship the cynical, edgy antihero characters.
The world is depressing, and so people turn to cynicism as a survival mechanism, but that’s not what makes life worth living. Deep down, EVERYONE is cringey and dumb, and if we didn’t spend so much energy trying to be exceptional and cool, we’d be a lot happier. With Amity, here is a person who has finally found the freedom to be as cringe as they want.
She has no worries about overwhelming expectations from her parents, or hierarchy battles with her peers to compete for social status. She’s 15 years old, and she’s free to embrace her happy, clumsy nerd side. In Thanks to Them, for the very first time, Amity is truly free. And if that means she’s “boring” now, well so be it.

Lumity Analysis: Why They're Perfect
"Lumity" refers to the ship between Luz Noceda and Amity Blight from the Disney animated series "The Owl House." Disney has made strides in LGBTQ+ representation in recent years. Historically, the company has been criticized for a lack of diversity in its characters, but there have been notable developments toward inclusivity.
Their Introduction
In the first season of "The Owl House," Luz Noceda and Amity Blight are initially introduced as classmates at Hexside School of Magic and Demonics. Amity is a skilled and popular student, while Luz is an enthusiastic human girl who lacks magical abilities. Their relationship starts with Amity being dismissive and condescending towards Luz, especially due to Luz's unconventional approach to magic.
As the season progresses, particularly in episodes like "Understanding Willow" and "Enchanting Grom Fright," their dynamic begins to shift. Luz learns more about Amity's struggles and challenges, and Amity starts to see Luz in a different light. The development of their friendship and eventual romantic undertones forms a significant part of the first season.
Understanding Amity Blight
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amity Blight is portrayed as a prodigious young witch attending Hexside School of Magic and Demonics. Initially portrayed as a competitive and dismissive character, the show explores the reasons behind her behavior, delving into her struggles with family expectations and her own desire to fit in. Instead of sticking to a one-dimensional "mean girl" persona, Amity's relationships with other characters, especially with Luz and Willow, showcase a more nuanced personality.
She once had a close friendship with Willow Park, but due to peer pressure and her desire to fit into her family's expectations, Amity distances herself from Willow. This storyline is explored in the episode "Understanding Willow," shedding light on the complexities of Amity's character.
Family Life and Abuse
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her parents, Odalia and Alador Blight, are portrayed as strict and demanding figures, particularly her mother, Odalia. The show hints at emotional abuse from her mother, adding layers to Amity's internal conflicts. Amity has older siblings, twins named Emira and Edric Blight. They play a significant role in the series, as they really love their little sister and occasionally offer advice to her. While they share the Blight family ambition, they also display a more carefree and rebellious attitude compared to Amity.
Being the more overtly abusive parent, Odalia sets unrealistic expectations for Amity by pressuring her to conform to the Blight family's high standards. This constant pressure to excel and meet these expectations contributes to Amity's initial behavior as an arrogant rival and her internal struggles. Odalia's emotional manipulation and criticism shape Amity's sense of self-worth and contribute to her insecurities. The fear of disappointing her mother and the desire for approval become driving forces in Amity's life, affecting her interactions with others, including her peers like Luz.
On the other hand, Alador's neglect also plays a role in Amity's development. His lack of active involvement in her life might leave Amity feeling overlooked and contribute to a sense of loneliness. The absence of positive attention from a parental figure could impact her emotional well-being and contribute to her seeking validation elsewhere, whether through academic achievements or conforming to societal expectations.
Early Behavior
At the beginning of "The Owl House," Amity was introduced as an arrogant rival and a bit of a bully. Driven by her desire to excel academically and meet her family's expectations, she initially sees Luz as a threat and behaves dismissively and competitively.
One example of this was when she almost got Luz dissected by Principal Bump, mistaking her for an abomination. This incident shows her willingness to use any means to maintain her status, even if it means putting Luz in danger. This showcases the extent of her dedication to conforming to her family's standards.
Similarly, in the episode "Covention," Amity's actions, like stepping on King's cupcake, illustrate her inclination to follow the expectations set by her peers and her mother. These instances lay the groundwork for her eventual realization and character development as she begins to question the values she once upheld and develops a more authentic sense of self.
Why Luz Is A Positive Influence?
Amity's transformation into a better and more compassionate person was strongly influenced by her friendship with Luz Noceda. When Luz entered Amity's life, she challenged the rigid expectations set by Amity's family and offered genuine friendship. Luz's positive influence on Amity stems from her acceptance and encouragement. Since Luz doesn't judge Amity based on her family background or talents, this acceptance allows Amity to gradually break free from the toxic influences of her parents. Through various adventures and shared experiences, Luz helps Amity rediscover her own values and passions.
As their friendship evolves into a romantic relationship, Amity learns the importance of authenticity and staying true to herself. Luz's influence empowers Amity to challenge societal norms and expectations, fostering a sense of independence and self-discovery.
Her Friendship With Willow
Tumblr media
"Understanding Willow" is a pivotal episode in "The Owl House" where Amity confronts the regrets and pain she caused Willow due to her past actions and toxic friendships. In this episode, viewers witness the depth of Amity's character as she reflects on her role in distancing herself from Willow and succumbing to the toxic influence of her friend group, particularly Boscha and Skara.
This episode also marked a turning point for Amity as she decided to make amends with Willow. This act of vulnerability and apology demonstrates her willingness to break free from the toxic patterns in her life, thanks to Luz. It sets the stage for Amity's broader character development, paving the way for her eventual growth into a more better person.
Luz Is Amity's First Crush
Tumblr media
Amity's revelation of her attraction to women, particularly her crush on Luz, in "Enchanting Grom Fright" can be relatable to many teenagers discovering their own sexuality.
Amity's realization and expression of her feelings for Luz capture the uncertainty and excitement that often accompany one's first crush. When Grom attacks her, and Amity's worst fear is seen as being romantically rejected by someone unspecified, shown by Grom tearing up a note, Amity was seen throughout the episode. Luz reassures her it's alright and offers to go to Grom with her instead, as that's what friends do.
Amity and Luz then team up and fight Grom by dancing together, where they are portrayed to be extremely close while doing so. After their dance, it is revealed to the audience that it was Luz who Amity had been planning to ask out to Grom but didn't out of her fear of rejection.
Certainly, the intensity of Amity's feelings for Luz has been a notable and recurring theme in both Season 1 and Season 2 of "The Owl House." The blushing moments between Amity and Luz serve as visual cues to emphasize the romantic undertones of their relationship.
How They Fell In Love?
At first, Amity sees Luz as a rival and is dismissive of her unconventional approach to magic. Amity's uptightness and desire to maintain her status as the top student clash with Luz's spontaneous and chaotic nature. Despite their differences, Luz's persistence and kindness slowly break down Amity's initial resistance.
As Amity and Luz spend more time together, they begin to form a genuine connection. Amity starts to appreciate Luz's unique perspective and adventurous spirit, which contrasts with her own practical and regimented approach to magic. Throughout their adventures, these experiences deepen their bond and allow Amity to see Luz in a new light. As their friendship evolved, Amity began to realize her feelings for Luz. Despite her initial resistance and the societal expectations placed upon her, Amity embraces her love for Luz, recognizing that their differences complement each other. Ultimately, it's Luz's uniqueness, kindness, and unwavering support that lead Amity to fall in love with her.
Will They, Won't They?
The show subverted the common "Will They, Won't They" trope by providing a more nuanced and progressive approach to the development of romantic relationships, particularly the central one between Luz and Amity. Rather than drawing out the tension over multiple seasons, the show addresses Amity's feelings for Luz relatively early in the series. This allows for a more extended exploration of their relationship beyond the initial stage of uncertainty.
The show also doesn't rely heavily on misunderstandings or miscommunication between Luz and Amity to create drama. Instead, it focuses on their genuine connection, allowing the relationship to progress organically. This subverts the common trope of prolonged miscommunication, leading to unnecessary tension.
While the romantic aspect is crucial, the foundation of Luz and Amity's relationship is built on a strong and supportive friendship.
Becoming An Official Couple
Tumblr media
In the episode "Knock, Knock, Knockin' On Hooty's Door ", the Tunnel of Love scene shows the depth of their characters and the relatable challenges they face in expressing their feelings.
Luz's Perspective: Luz's awkwardness and reluctance in the Tunnel of Love stem from her past experiences of being mocked for her unconventional behavior. This fear of rejection has likely been exacerbated by instances where her crushes didn't reciprocate her feelings, making her cautious and hesitant in expressing herself romantically.
Luz's attempt to stop the ride and dismantle the romantic setting reflects her desire to show Amity a grand and unique romantic gesture. She may feel that Amity deserves something more extraordinary than what the Tunnel of Love provides, inadvertently overlooking the fact that Amity finds the gesture charming.
Amity's Perspective: On the other hand, Amity was seeking confirmation that Luz reciprocates her feelings. The romantic setting of the Tunnel of Love, despite its cheesiness, is a sign to Amity that Luz might share her romantic interest. Amity's genuine flattery and blushing indicate that she appreciates the gesture, but Luz's reaction misleads her. Amity's fear of rejection, rooted in past experiences such as Grom taking Luz's form and tearing her note, resurfaces. Luz's destructive response triggers Amity's trauma, as she believes Luz is rejecting her. The heartbroken expression mirrors the pain of potential rejection.
The episode hints at Luz's past experiences of bullying on Earth, likely due to her neurodivergence and inability to conform to societal norms. Amity's socially inept behavior is a result of her strict upbringing, making both characters relatable to those who have faced similar challenges.
Their First Kiss
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first kiss between Luz and Amity in "Clouds on the Horizon" is a heartfelt moment in their relationship. Amity's vulnerability, coupled with Luz's genuine concern, sets the stage for a deepening emotional connection when Luz used vines to climb to Amity's room and the privacy provided by Amity's siblings leaving emphasize the intimacy of the moment.
Amity's uncertainty about Luz's safety adds a layer of tension that is beautifully resolved when they run to each other with joy upon realizing they are both safe. Luz's promise to take Amity on a real date showcases her commitment and care for Amity beyond the immediate circumstances. The unexpected kiss between Amity and Luz is a culmination of their growing feelings for each other. The blushing aftermath reflects the natural and tender awkwardness of two characters navigating new romantic territory.
Amity's decision to defend Luz against Odalia's dismissal is a powerful declaration of their relationship, marking a turning point in Amity's willingness to stand up for her feelings and challenge familial expectations.
Conclusion
Tumblr media
Finally, in the series finale, "Watching and Dreaming," Luz and Amity's love for each other shines through as they confront their greatest challenges yet. From supporting each other in the dream realm to sharing a heartfelt reunion after the final battle, their bond remains unbreakable. The tender moments they share, including a kiss on the cheek and their affectionate embrace, affirm the depth of their feelings and the enduring nature of their relationship.
From their initial interactions marked by misunderstandings to the development of a deep and supportive connection, Lumity stands out for its positive representation.

The Dark Side of Motherhood: Exploring Odalia Blight's Character
Odalia Blight emerges as a particularly controversial figure within 'The Owl House'. She was portrayed as a toxic parent in the animated series, known for her manipulative and controlling behavior towards her youngest daughter, Amity.
Parenting Style
Tumblr media
Firstly, Odalia consistently places immense pressure on her children to conform to societal expectations and uphold the family's reputation. This pressure is evident in her treatment of Amity, where she not only dictates her daughter's actions but also attempts to control her personal relationships, especially with Luz. Odalia's interference undermines Amity's autonomy and emotional well-being.
Odalia's insistence on Amity dyeing her hair and her overall treatment of her youngest child are indicative of a desire to control and mold her offspring into an ideal that serves her own interests, rather than nurturing their individuality and happiness. It reflects the broader theme of parental expectations and the pressure to conform to societal norms. Amity's initial act of changing her hair to purple in Season 2 becomes an act of rebellion, signaling her desire to break free from her mother's imposed standards.
Odalia's approach to parenting mirrors that of a strict corporate executive, where success is defined by adhering to a predetermined path, achieving specific goals, and maintaining a carefully crafted public image. The children become pawns in the family's pursuit of societal status, akin to employees serving a company's bottom line.
Her Relationship With Edric and Emira
Tumblr media
Odalia's biased treatment towards Emira and Edric, as hinted by Amity, suggests a lack of equal regard for her children. The implication that she is less controlling towards the twins might indicate a perceived favoritism or a different approach in her parenting style.
In return, the twins show a level of distrust and occasional defiance toward Odalia. The revelation that Odalia used them as bargaining chips to ensure their father's compliance sheds light on the transactional nature of their relationship with their mother. The twins' secret opposition to Odalia's actions, such as helping in the rescue mission and supporting Amity's defiance, demonstrates their willingness to challenge their mother when they disagree. Their awareness of Odalia's true nature and recognition of her selfish motives distinguish them from Amity, who initially hoped for a more reasonable resolution.
Toxic Behavior
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Odalia Blight's character indeed embodies a deeply toxic and controlling parental figure in "The Owl House." Her arrogant and mean-spirited behavior, coupled with a misanthropic disdain for relationships outside of her perceived societal norms, creates a hostile environment for her family.
By isolating Amity from her friends and criticizing them as less skilled, Odalia attempts to shape Amity's social circle in accordance with her own standards. This tactic not only undermines Amity's autonomy but also perpetuates a toxic environment. Odalia's willingness to consider sparing Amity's friends from expulsion but only if Luz becomes the guinea pig for her abomination product presentation underscores her manipulative nature. This condition puts Luz in a difficult position, using her as leverage.
The implication that Odalia's abominations were designed in a way that poses a threat to Luz's life suggests a level of callousness and disregard for the well-being of those who stand in the way of her ambitions. This goes beyond mere manipulation, entering into a realm of endangering others for personal gain.
While Odalia Blight's acceptance of Amity's lesbian sexuality is a positive aspect in terms of representation, her continued disapproval of Amity's relationship with Luz Noceda reflects a persistent bias. The comment about finding Amity "a new girlfriend that doesn't have wanted posters everywhere" suggests that Odalia prioritizes societal expectations and status over her daughter's happiness.
The detailed account of Odalia Blight's actions paints a compelling picture of her as a deeply manipulative and morally compromised character in "The Owl House." Her abusive tactics towards Amity, utilizing an oracle necklace to control her, and threatening Willow's expulsion to sever their friendship underscore her unscrupulous methods of maintaining control over her daughter's life.
Odalia's influence on Amity's attitudes and beliefs, making her act arrogantly and look down upon those she perceives as less skilled, including Willow, further exacerbates the conflict. This attitude shift puts strain on their friendship, as Amity starts to distance herself from Willow due to the societal expectations imposed by her mother.
Business and Ambitions

As the CEO of Blight Industries, her involvement in abomination production aligns with her ambition for power and influence. The episode "Clouds in the Horizon" further exposes the depth of Odalia Blight's manipulative and self-serving nature. Her decision to unfairly ground her children for merely attempting to understand her secretive preparations for the "Day of Unity" showcases her disregard for their well-being and autonomy.
The revelation that Odalia was aware of Emperor Belos' sinister intentions but chose to prioritize her family's ascent to royalty in the human realm over the lives of countless witches is a chilling confirmation of her ruthlessness. Her confession underlines her lack of empathy and moral compass, emphasizing her willingness to sacrifice the greater good for personal gain.
This twist not only deepens her antagonistic role within the series but also underscores the extent of her moral compromise. Her willingness to sacrifice countless lives for personal gain emphasizes her ruthlessness and lack of empathy, painting her as a character willing to betray even her own kind for the allure of a perceived elevated status.
Odalia's lack of genuine loyalty, using Belos for her own selfish motives, and subsequent attempts to align herself with the Collector showcase her opportunistic nature. The karma she faces, particularly in her humiliation by the Collector, is depicted as a fitting consequence for her past actions.
Odalia's Downfall
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The events in "For the Future" and "Watching and Dreaming" showcase a dramatic turn for Odalia Blight's character in "The Owl House." The Collector's ability to manipulate her into servitude adds a layer of poetic justice, highlighting the consequences of her previous actions. Being reduced to performing menial tasks and catering to the whims of the Collector underscores Odalia's fall from her perceived position of power. This plot development serves as a symbolic reflection of the repercussions that often accompany a character's moral shortcomings.
In the series finale, the visual representation of Odalia being left out while Amity and Alador reunite implies a significant shift in family dynamics. The confirmation from series creator Dana Terrace that Alador rightfully divorced Odalia and claimed full custody of their children further underscores the consequences of Odalia's actions.

HOW AMITY LOOKS AT LUZ.
Amity's eyes are normally sharp but they are mostly rounder when she sees Luz. Her golden eyes sparkle with a glint of love, and pure happiness. Her sparkling golden irises reminds Luz of her favorite light glyph, the glyph that brings her confidence, motivation and strength.
