How long was Rocket in the lab?

While discussing the movie with a friend it occurred to me that there’s no way in-movie to tell how long Rocket was in the lab.  If he aged at normal raccoon rates he may only have been there for six months to a year, given that raccoons are considered full grown at 2 years of age.  However, humans mature much slower than that, and it is possible the Uplift process slowed his aging to a human equivalent.  In the case he may have been in the lab for years.  I’d say he was 6-8 years old by human standards when he escaped. 

I know there’s no good way to tell from the movie, but maybe Gunn Tweeted something that I missed. Anyone got something that clarifies this issue?
