Day 311 || A song by a musician you think changed musical history.
“Blue Suede Shoes” - Carl Perkins
Even right on Carl’s Wikipedia page (the almighty resource), there’s a quote from Paul McCartney - “If there were no Carl Perkins, there would be no Beatles.” And I’d wager that there wouldn’t be a lot of musicians if this Rockabilly boy didn’t exist.

Day 310: A song they play on the easy listening stations that you hate.
“Songbird” - Kenny G
I don’t listen to easy listening stations, but I can only imagine it’s just all Kenny G. Fuck that guy. There’s not reason/basis for my hatred but IT’S THEREEEEEE.

Day 309 || The last song you heard that you really liked.
“Spiritual” - Johnny Cash
Recently watched the Johnny Cash documentary “The Gift” and this song plays at the end over a picture/clip slideshow of him and June, and I still don’t think I’ve 100% recovered from the sob session I had from it.
(The whole song is great, but his singing from 3:21 on is especially goosebump-inducing.)

Day 308 || A song you like from a band that begins with the letter ‘N.’
“5 Years Time” - Noah & the Whale
A dramatic anecdote for this challenge - a young, lonely, and sad Megan used to listen to this song on the campus bus in college when I was going between my dorm & classes. I had never been in love at that point and wanted to be so that I could relate to songs like this, so I would listen and wonder what my life would be like in 5 years’ time (GET IT?) and hope that I would get there. And I did! Because you just gotta find your weirdo. ;)

Day 307 || A song you like that begins with the letter ‘N.’
“The New Workout Plan” - Kanye West
I’m ignoring the “The” and counting this. Mainly because it popped up in the ‘N’ section of my iTunes as I was browsing for a song. My old roommate and I used to randomly quote the part that goes, “It’s a paaaaarty toniiiiiight and ooh she’s so exciiiiiiited. Tell me who’s inviiiiiited - you, your friends, and my diiiiiiick”... classic Kanye.

Day 306 || A song you like by a band/artist that came from another famous band.
“Dead Flowers” - Townes Van Zandt
Originally done (weirdly) by The Rolling Stones, but Townes perfected it. I love one of the comments on the video: “This is where Townes lives. The Stones were welcome to visit but it’s Townes’s home.”

Day 304 || If you started your own record company, a song from a band you wish you could sign.
“Peach Scone” - Hobo Johnson & the Lovemakers
I was trying to think of “lesser-known” (in quotes because this video has 16 million views...) artists and these guys were the first to pop into my head, so I’m puttin’ ’emmmmmmm. I also looked at Hobo Johnson’s wikipedia page and he’s already on a label, so it’s whatever. I really dig the slam poetry type of cadence and I just think it’s really endearing in a “wow this touches on my weirdness and anxiety” kind of way. Neat-o!

Day 303 || A song you would use in a soundtrack to go with a scene where someone pushes past pain to reach a goal.
“Hold On (Keep Your Eyes on the Prize)” - Barbara Dane & Lightning Hopkins
I’m pretty sure this song has roots in slavery and/or civil rights, but I would classify that as pain. REGARDLESS, this is what my brain thought of first and it’s a great song and Barbara’s voice is the fuckin tits.

Day 302 || A song you like that you think should be used in a ballet performance.
“Gutter Ballet” - Savatage
I’m not just choosing this song because it has the word ‘ballet’ in the title... even though that’s 100% something I would do. But aside from that. When I was little, I begrudgingly did tap dance for 10 years. During one of those recitals, there was a group of older kids that did their ballet performance to this song and I watched in absolute awe and thought that it was so legitimately badass. It was probably trash, but this song will forever be associated with that breathtaking memory. And now that memory is passed on to you. And no one is better for it. YAY.

“Monsters” - Band of Horses
This song meant a whole lot to me during a darker time. Still means a lot even though times are lighter. :)
We got much hope - if I am lost, it’s only for a little while.

Day 300 || A song you like by a band that’s name after an action (i.e. pushing, breaking, rolling, dancing).
“Out of Time” - The Rolling Stones
Thanks to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for introducing us to this gem!! Great song and a perfect fit for its placement in the movie.

Day 299 || If you were a DJ - the first song you would play on your first day on the job.
“Moving Like Mike” - Mac DeMarco
Okay, so I know that just the other day I posted a Mac song. But I was putting entirely too much thought into this and I was trying to force an answer, but an answer wouldn’t come. So then I thought, “I’ll just pick a goofy song and say fuck it” but even THAT made me think too hard. Then I just went to my iTunes and scrolled aimlessly and landed on this, which is a great combination of goofy and great. Thanks, baby Mac!

“Go-Getter Greg” - Ludo
I went through such a massive Ludo phase and I had this album on pretty much 24/7 when I discovered it... and I stand behind it now. Imma go listen to this album BYE.

A nice laid-back ditty from a baby Nick Thorburn & Daddy Kev. Always liked the vibe of this one. I know all of my followers live for these eloquent and deep captions. You’re WELCOME.

Day 295 || A song you like by a band that’s named after an animal.
“Rock This Town” - The Stray Cats
I was trying to pick a band I haven’t chosen yet. It was a mental toss up between this and A Flock of Seagulls... no one would ever choose A Flock of Seagulls.
