today one of the student workers at my job told me that if she’s struggling remembering something important in her course work she’ll wait until her professor asks a question related to that topic during a lecture and then she’ll purposefully raise her hand and answer it wrong because, and I quote, ‘the combined shame and embarrassment of getting an answer wrong in front of more than a hundred of your peers will make sure that you’ll never forget what the right answer actually was’ and if that is not the most next level balls to the wall bonkers extrovert thing I’ve ever heard then I don’t know what is

Quote
What remains once the war is won? Fame. Songs. A kingdom of corpses. His name too heavy in my mouth. What do we become in death? Shadows. Longing. Regret, regret, regret. What do we keep once we are ghosts? The blood under my fingernails. His crooked teeth. Searching for happiness in the threads of his hands. A love that burned alive. A love that is still bursting in my hollow chest. A love that was never enough. What do you do when you’re alone in the darkness? Wait for him, I’ll wait forever if I must. Were you ever able to name one hero who was happy? No.

also one of my favorite thing about disco elysium is that no matter how stupid silly funny you play harry you'll always get these glimpses into his past of ruthlessness, competency, and violence
this guy that dresses in gaudy disco clothes and sings horrible karaoke and falls on his ass when trying to run out on his tab and tells his coworker that he fucked his mom in the ass and doesn't even know what planet he's on. juxtaposed with the visceral muscle memory of pulling the trigger of a gun that feels like it was born in his hand. lieutenant-double-yefreitor that refused promotion twice so he could retain the highest rank that still does field work. got drunk on a case and beat a man so badly he could no longer walk. 18 years on the force 216 closed cases 3 confirmed kills top 90% of officers in the entire rcm. fuck everything. all will burn. detect or die.

there's so much pathologizing over why enemies to lovers is a popular trope (something something the normalization of abuse something something) when the simplest and less moronic answer is that narratives thrive on irony and reversals, and there's no greater irony than characters going from hating each other's guts to loving each other unconditionally. raw thesis-antithesis-synthesis.
