High Card Opening 2 Analysis
Here I‘ll list some details and interesting scenes that appear in the Opening:
Tumblr media
Ban Klondike holding the Joker.
Tumblr media
In the background, we see a father happily walking with his son. Perhaps this refers to sth between Leo and Theodore's relationship.
Tumblr media
Similarly, in Chris's scene, a young man and woman are walking in the background. This could hint at either him and Michelle or him and Chelsea.
Tumblr media
The traffic light abruptly changes from green to red here.
Tumblr media
Here we see Theodore, Ban, and Owen walking past each other. At the last moment, Owen keeps glancing in Ban's direction.
Tumblr media
Bernard is hitting the counter with his fist, appearing deeply frustrated or desperate.
Tumblr media
Burst attempts to reach out to Tilt, but she hesitates midway. She seems unsure yet still caring about him.
Tumblr media
Lala watching over Fourland.
Tumblr media
Finn and Chris are depicted fighting back to back. Their shadows form a clockwise and counterclockwise motion respectively. As they maneuver, their shadows also shift accordingly. While I'm uncertain of its exact significance, it seems to relate to Chris. It's not as simple as his time running out, as that would imply forward movement. Instead, it moves backwards.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Several upcoming scenes prominently feature clocks and clock-related items. This likely indicates the importance of time in general. It may also suggest Finn attempting to recall his childhood or hint at a time-related ability.

i am thinking about whether chris is gonna survive or not. what do you think about it? i'll be so so so sad if he doesn't. i think he's gonna be in the hospital for a long time unless they show a time skip which is very unlikely. i kind of think his plot armour will save him. i still can't get it out of my head tho😭
Well, I don‘t want him to die too! That be really sad. I am also not sure if the series could pull a death of the main cast right now. I am just not getting that feeling from it yet. BUT it would be a major turning point if Chris were to really die. That would make the whole anime a lot more serious. I think (and hope) that he won‘t die, but he will probably be heavy injured or stay in a coma and won‘t be able to work for a while or even at all. If he were to miraculously be able to work again without problems I’d be disappointed too, cause that be just plot armor then.
I don‘t know what the new ending hints at, but I do think it’s a bit ominous that in the last sequence two cards are on a table but the only one shown is Finn‘s Card. The other one is turned face-down. Most of the time, if I remember correctly, Finn and Chris‘s card were shown together in openings or endings. So yeah, I am not sure but I hope for the best!

About Iris Moise and the Ace of Clubs
In the latest episode (Ep. 14) Sugar tries to find information about Iris Moise and discovers the autopsy report of the girl. She died a year ago.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It could be a fake report, but why declare her dead if she isn’t? This reminds me of something else. In episode 5 we get told the founding legend of the Kingdom of Fourland. There we are shown the aces of every suit. The one that‘s interesting for this is the Ace of Clubs.
Tumblr media
This card depicts a skeleton. Skeleton = Death. The suits of clubs so far included abilities that involved elements and nature. Death is a part of nature as well, right? What if this card allows necromancy?
But then, even if you are dead, can you still use a card? If we look at the official sources, Iris is the player of Eight of Spades. So yeah, I am not really sure.
Another thing:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because of this conversation in the first episode I thought that maybe Tilt is the owner of the Ace of Clubs. My trail of thought was that Tilt revived Iris and that‘s why she is loyal to him. But this can be scrapped.
Tumblr media
If we take a closer look at the key visual of the new season, there are spade symbols seen on Tilt‘s gloves, so he probably is the owner of a spade card.
Another question that also pops up: If the Ace of Clubs does revive people, then how long does this last? What happens if you remove the gloves again? Is there a limit to how many people you can revive at a time? And is the power maybe something entirely different?
Well, thank you for reading and feel free to add your ideas :)

Theory Time
Honestly, I really like finding details in openings and endings. The first things I noticed while watching the new opening of High Card was this:
Tumblr media
If we go by the clothes, this is Ban Klondike and he is in possession of the Joker. So there does exist one. We will probably get to know this through the new season but it still a nice detail in the opening.
Another thing is this in the ending:
Tumblr media
We can see three people sitting at a table, drinking and playing cards. These are probably Ban Klondike (front), Theodore Constantine Pinochle (left) and Greg Young (back). As we already got told in the first season, these three have known each other for a long time.
Tumblr media
BUT! If you look at at the ending picture in more detail you can see four people. Only the hands of the fourth person (right) can be seen tho. So this leads to the question: Who is this? We will probably get to know this in some time, still here is a theory:
What if this fourth person is the father of Finn? Wide stretch, I know, but listen. In the second episode of the first season, after High Card captured Finn, they suddenly employ him. There is no definite reason said why, but they offer to take him in. While working he can earn money and be protected from other people that are after his card. It‘s also possible they do that because they need more people to help collecting cards but why take some random boy then. Any why protect him? I think they could just have taken his card and that‘s it. But the order to make him an employe came from above, from Theodore. Later on the phone he tells Bernard to fire him if he is useless, but still. Maybe he is doing an old friend a favor or there is more behind it.
Another one is this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end of episode 5 of the first season, Greg views Finns profile. He is not that expressive but it still looks like is thinking about something. Is his name familiar? Maybe he reminds him of someone?
Well, that‘s more or less it. It‘s been a while and I haven‘t fully rewatched the first season yet but these are the things I noticed and kept thinking about. Take it with a grain of salt. I also haven‘t really dived into all the other materials available about High Card. Maybe after a rewatch I‘ll add stuff or come up with different theories.
Thank you for listening to my rambling and feel free to add more or other hints :)

X-Playing Cards and Cartomancy
High Card takes a lot of ~stylistic inspiration~ for its X-playing cards system from the standard 52-card deck and related card games, but it never occurred to me until someone pointed it out that the French deck was also based on tarot cards, precisely the minor arcana! (media usually make parallels from the major arcana so it took me longer to connect the dots)
More elaborate explanation under the cut…

Code Vein in game Role Playing Idea
Making your Character have different customizations throughout the game. A kinda out there inhuman look to start out with (like you are already transforming into a lost/successor), a normal look for the Operation: Queenslayer memory section, and then a third one after that that looks more like the normal look but still keeps some of the inhuman features, with most having receded after regaining your memories, like how the other successors become sane after regaining theirs (or human again in Eva’s case).
I started doing this mostly to explain why Jack doesn’t immediately recognize you in the dried up trenches, besides the usual excuses of you being behind Louis and Yakumo or it having been years since OP:QS.
Because even behind those two or however long it’s been since then, I don’t think Jack would ever forget that one fucking revanent with three fucking eyes, all with different pupils and eye colors, glow in the dark reindeer antlers, A halo floating behind them, bright pink and green hair, and dressed in their favorite polka dot and plaid “ass kicking outfit”

I’ve been digging through the data files for Code Vein (partly fact-finding, partly to fill out the TCRF page because it was in a sorry state when I came across it, partly just personal curiosity) and there’s some names which go unused which should be useful for people who want to write fanfic or just know more about their favourite characters or what have you.
The first category are people who are only referred to by a given name in the game itself but have family names. They’re mostly sidequest people—in particular Louis and Karen have no ingame surname at all, so there’s no confirmation of the rumour started (as far as I can tell) by Bandai-Namco Europe that they’re part of the Amamiya family.
Matthew, the brave but inexperienced revenant who loses his weapon, is Matthew Suren.
Shang the merchant is Shang Berman.
Gustav, the forthright guy protesting the provisional government and their levy system, is Gustav Arens.
Daryl, who just wants to find his friends, is Daryl Xenakis.
Sophie, the revenant researching the Successors who used to work with Mido, is Sophie Clayton.
Richard, the guy who lost his sleeping bag, is Richard Saut. (The Japanese indicates this should be pronounced like the French word saut, which means “jump”.)
Lyle, the Crypt Spire guard who barely survived Mido’s onslaught, is Lyle Wilson.
Dominic, the human stuck in the Provisional Government Center, is Dominic Weiss. (Pronounce it like the name of the RWBY character, not like the German word; the Japanese name probably should be romanised “Wise”.)
Then there’s two people who are never referred to by name in the game at all.
Human Woman, whom you rescue from a life of being emergency rations for a gang of starving revenants, is named Chloe Bizet (pronounced like the name of the composer).
The Self-Important Revenant, one of those starving revenants who ultimately just wanted to find somewhere to live, is Johnny Eckart.
Finally, someone who has a surname which is likely to make some people stop and think.
Valerio, the former Successor of the Throat who sealed away the horrors in the depths, is Valerio Valentino. Yes, that suggests he’s related to Aurora. Small world, huh?

Had a dream this morning that Archive of our Own had a Random button which would simply take you to a random fanfic, like Wikipedia has. (AO3 does not appear to really have this, I checked and couldn’t find one, but I kinda wish they did.) Someone had started a game where whatever fic you got, that was your new fandom, which is very fun! I would love this meme in real life.
The problem came in where so many people used the button that it broke and just started sending everyone to Stealing Harry, and like…I have fond memories of Stealing Harry but it’s not my best work and nobody should be assigned to be a Harry Potter fan in this day and age.
So I decide to go off and find Astolat and demand she fix this but when I finally did (there was a whole quest) she turned to me like the baddie in a horror flick and said, “But that’s the most random story there is” in a dark voice and I was terrified and woke up.
In the cold light of day I know there are more random stories by me on the archive, let alone by others, but I’m not going to try to get back there to argue my case. Pretty sure whatever I spoke to was actually the demon specifically assigned to plague fandom and not Astolat at all.
I’d say “get thee behind me, demon” but I know just how many porny fics on AO3 begin with that premise. (I’ve written some.) Begone foul spirit, and take your Satanic Panic with you!
