Oxford High School shooting: 3 students dead, 8 hurt including 1 teacher OXFORD, Mich. (FOX 2) - The Oakland County Sheriff said three students were killed and eight others have been hurt when someone started shooting inside Oxford High School on Tuesday.

According to Oakland County Undersheriff Michael McCabe, three students were killed in the shooting and there were at least eight other victims including a teacher. The sheriff also said that the suspect is a 15-year-old sophomore at the school and has invoked his right to remain silent.

McCabe said the first of more than 100 calls came into 911 at 12:51 p.m. to a report of a shooting. Deputies immediately responded to the scene and took the suspect into custody but not until after he shot 11 people, killing three:

16-year-old Tate Myre died inside a patrol car while deputies were taking him to the hospital 14-year-old Hana St. Juliana 17-year-old Madisyn Baldwin

"The high school has approx 1,800 students. Cars were dispatched at 12:52. Within two minutes they had the suspect in custody," Bouchard said. "The deputies removed from the suspects a 9 mm Sig Sauer pistol was still loaded and had 7 rounds of ammunition. When they took it from him he was walking down the hall. That interrupted what could have been seven more victims."

Bouchard said the gun was bought just four days ago, on Friday, Nov. 26, by the suspect's father.

He said there were no prior concerns of threats or any indication the suspect was planning the mass shooting.

After the lockdown was lifted, students from the high school were sent to the Meijer parking lot across the street from the school.

A parent sitting in a car told FOX 2 that his student inside had to barricade inside a classroom when they heard the gunshots being fired inside the school. He said his son was not physically hurt.

According to an alert sent out to Oxford parents, an active emergency was reported at the school around 1 p.m. and it has gone into emergency protocols and put the school into lockdown.

By 2 p.m., students were being released and dozens of ambulances and emergency personnel arrived at the scene.

The alert sent to parents urged them not to come to the school at this time.

There are multiple units on the scene including SWAT and the aviation unit and the sheriff said the scene is still active.

Oxford is a village population of just under 3,400 about 30 miles north of Detroit.

Prosecutor Karen McDonald released the following statement regarding the shooting at Oxford High School today:

"I was both horrified and saddened to learn about the shootings at Oxford High School this afternoon. My office and I have been in constant communication with the Sheriff’s Office, the Oakland County Juvenile Court, and other governmental and law enforcement bodies. The suspected shooter is in custody and we have begun the process of receiving information regarding the investigation.

"It is our intent to review it thoroughly and issue appropriate charges quickly. The suspect will remain in custody pending those charges.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the children who died, the children and teacher who were injured and their families, students, parents and staff at the school, and the greater community. They all have my commitment and my promise that I will seek justice for each of them.

"My office is making our full resources available to the Oxford community, including our two canine advocates. We will support the victims and their families throughout the process."

Ohio State football dominates Michigan State

The Ohio State football team came into today’s game agains Michigan State very confident. This was despite the fact that it was supposed to be a close game. It turns out that the Buckeyes shouldn’t have been that concerned.

Ryan Day had his team prepared for this one. Ohio State had a 49-0 lead at half. Ohio State ended up winning the game 56-7. C. J. Stroud had 6 touchdowns in the first half, tying the school record for touchdown passes in a game. He had that in the first half against a top 10 opponent. That’s simply ridiculous.

Stroud very well could have had his Heisman moment today. He only threw three incompletions and had 432 yards. He was sensational the entire time he was out there and could have put up more numbers had Day not pulled gum after one series on the second half.

Chris Olave had himself a game too. He caught two first half touchdowns and broke the record for career touchdown receptions that was formally held by David Boston. The Buckeyes showed that any given receiver can beat any defense on any given day. They just have too many weapons.

The Ohio State football team’s defense was also really good in this game. They didn’t allow a score until late in the game when all of the starters were pulled. They played a really strong game, especially against Kenneth Walker. He had no room to run the entire game. He only had six carries for a paltry 25 yards.

This was one of the more dominant Ohio State games I’ve seen in awhile. They never were threatened by the Spartans. I did not expect this at all. It’s a really good sign for this team going into TTUN week. They look like a team on a mission.

• They scored more points on Michigan State than any other team—and they did it when they hit 42 by the middle of the second quarter.

• Their quarterback, C.J. Stroud, broke a school record with 17 consecutive completions in the first half.

• They had 500 total yards in the first two quarters.

• And, in a striking statistical snapshot of this affair, Stroud threw as many touchdowns in the first half as Michigan State had first downs (six).

It unfolded in such a way that you might have assumed players from another Mitten State team, Eastern Michigan, slipped into Sparty jerseys overnight.

Surely this wasn’t a team that won its first eight games of the season, a program on the brink of giving its second-year coach Mel Tucker a 10-year, $95 million deal (as of kickoff, reports were that he hadn’t signed said deal—a ghastly mistake in hindsight; Mel, find a pen as soon as you can).

But let’s be honest, the outcome—an Ohio State blowout—wasn’t so much of a surprise. The Buckeyes were favored by nearly 20 points, possessing one of the country’s hottest passing offenses against a defense that was the worst at stopping the pass.

At one point on Saturday, Ohio State had scored 42 points, in 23 minutes of play, on 38 plays. Stroud launched himself to the top of the Heisman race, starting the game by completing 20 of his first 21 attempts. He threw touchdown passes of 77, 43, 23, 12, five and four yards. If his receivers weren’t open, they made spectacular plays (hello, Chris Olave!).

“A lot of the things I could kind of see before it happened,” Stroud said.

The result could have been worse, so much worse. For the most part, Day took the proverbial foot off the gas in the second half, and a few of his starters got a rest at an opportune time (even highly-touted freshman QB Quinn Ewers saw some snaps). Next week, the Buckeyes play at Michigan in The Game—to this point, the biggest game of the 2021 season.

World Cup qualifier USA vs. Mexico today in Cincinnati

While the United States Men’s National Team does not play until Friday night, chants echoed through Cincinnati sports bar The Pitch on Thursday.

Several hundred supporters have arrived in Cincinnati to cheer on the home team in a World Cup qualifier against rival Mexico at TQL Stadium. New Jersey resident Stephen Goldsmith, a member of the team’s official supporter group, is just one fan who traveled hours to watch the match.

“Not a vacation, but a great opportunity to cheer on U.S. Soccer while having fun,” Goldsmith said. “I’m working tomorrow so it’s a win-win...excited to check off another soccer specific stadium.”

The fans, mostly sporting red, white and blue, are all ready for Cincinnati to be on the world’s stage.

“Once I heard it was in Cincinnati, that was it for me,” Virginia resident Jesse Malave said. “I got my ticket, got my plane ticket as well — both at the same time.”

“They could’ve said Fairbanks, Alaska, it wouldn’t have mattered,” New Mexico resident Samuel Cota said. “US-Mexico, World Cup qualifier? I had to go.”

Business owners said they are excited for thousands of visitors flocking to downtown, a win-win for bars, retailers and hotels. When it comes to the match, win or lose, Friday promises to be a fun, profitable time in Cincinnati.

“They’re starting events at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) afternoon, game isn’t until 9. We’ll probably do something at 2, and keep going.”

Those who have tickets will be flooding the city all day and there are roads closed around the stadium.

The match begins at 9 p.m. today and will air on ESPN2 and ESPN+. A look at Ticketmaster for tickets to the match around 8 a.m. Friday morning showed single tickets starting at $300 each.

Michigan Football: 3 takeaways from heart-wrenching loss to MSU

In a battle that lived up to the hype of two prominent programs throwing haymakers in East Lansing, Michigan State topped Michigan football in an instant classic.

Michigan football couldn’t have asked for a hotter start with Payton Thorne throwing an interception on the opening series. A few snaps later Michigan hit the jackpot with a 93-yard touchdown gallop by a freshman, and East Lansing native Andrel Anthony.

It was the beginning of plenty of big things to come for the young wideout in his hometown.

The Spartans didn’t roll over and die though. They fought back to take the lead thanks to Heisman-worthy running back Kenneth Walker. The lead was short-lived however because Michigan football nabbed the edge at halftime with another Anthony touchdown grab, this time from fellow freshman, J.J. McCarthy.

In the third, Michigan looked in control by scoring to widen the gap to 16. Once again though Michigan State would not give up. Walker found the endzone for back-to-back scores to even things up at 30. With 12 and a half minutes remaining the outcome of this epic confrontation was completely up for grabs.

Michigan responded with its first points since it went up by 16 with a field goal. The defense got a crucial stop and the offense got the ball back and McCarthy uncharacteristically turned the football over on the ensuing play.

It was all the Spartans needed to retake the lead with the fifth and final game-sealing touchdown by Walker. The offense got the rock back, McNamara gave it right back to end the hopes of any comeback.

The Wolverines’ Nov. 6 game against Indiana has been selected for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff on FOX, it was unveiled late Saturday.

The game will take place at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, where Michigan is a perfect 5-0 on the season and Saturday’s game is being promoted as “Military Appreciation Night.” Jim Harbaugh’s team is coming off a 37-33 loss to in-state rival Michigan State on Saturday in East Lansing that dropped the Wolverines to 7-1 on the season.

Michigan will assuredly fall from its No. 6 spot in the rankings this week, also.

Meanwhile, Indiana (2-6) remains winless in Big Ten play following a 38-35 loss at Maryland on Saturday. It was the Hoosiers’ fourth straight loss in what has been a disappointing season for Tom Allen’s team.

Saturday marks the third night game of the season for Michigan, a popular ratings draw for the Big Ten’s TV partners. FOX elected to put Michigan’s game against Michigan State at noon, the network’s key time slot, over the weekend.

For those wondering, this is the final weekend in which TV networks can make the calls to stage Big Ten football games at night. They can still happen during the month of November, but both schools must agree.

‘Manchester United defeat the LA Galaxy 7-0 at the Rose Bowl Stadium PASADENA, Calif. – Newcomer Ander Herrera pulled the strings as Wayne Rooney, Reece James and Ashley Young each tallied braces helping Manchester United cruise to a 7-0 victory over the LA Galaxy in front of 84,362 at the Rose Bowl Stadium.

Danny Welbeck opened the scoring before Rooney’s brace while James added two in the second half and Ashley Young rounded out the scoring late. Herrera had two assists for United in the victory. Galaxy now hold an 8-14-6 record against European competition and a 40-26-29 record in exhibitions overall

.The two sides traded chances within the first 10 minutes as new United signing Ander Herrera launched a blast from beyond the penalty area that was pushed away by Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo. Moments later, the Galaxy had an attempt of their own as a one-timed volley by Gyasi Zardes was saved by Red Devils goalkeeper David De Gea.

United got their goal in the 13th minute when Mata exploited a hole in the Galaxy defense and found Welbeck who fired a shot past Penedo for the opening goal. After the action evened out following Manchester’s early lead, United hit back with two quick goals moments before halftime.

Rooney doubled United’s lead in the 42nd minute after an A.J. DeLaGarza handball set up a penalty kick opportunity that was easily slotted past Penedo. The English international added another in the first minute off first half stoppage time after a Tommy Meyer defensive miscue set up an opportunity for Rooney to chip the ball over Penedo for an easy finish.

Both teams opted for wholesale changes at the half with the Galaxy bringing on Rob Friend, Bradford Jamieson IV, Kenney Walker, Brian Rowe, and Kofi Opare. Arena went to the well again a minute after the half hour mark adding LA Galaxy II stalwarts Kyle Venter, Rafael Garcia, Oscar Sorto, and Raul Mendiola as well as Landon Donovan.

A minute after LA’s second mass substitution, United struck again this time as Young fired a low cross into space finding James, who buried a chance inside the area past a helpless Rowe. James scored another in the 84th minute when new signing Ander Herrera fed Young who saw his attempt saved by Rowe. The chance then fell perfectly for Reece who fired into an empty net.

Herrera played the distributor again in the dying minutes helping Young score twice to round out the Galaxy’s worst ever loss in a friendly match.

LA return to action on Monday against Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field.

Mohamed Salah scores second wonder goal in as many Premier League games to spoil Claudio Ranieri return

(CNN)Mohamed Salah scored his second wonderful solo goal in as many Premier League games as Liverpool spoilt Claudio Ranieri's return to management in the UK.

In the 54th minute of Liverpool's comfortable 5-0 win against Watford at Vicarage Road, Salah picked up the ball on the edge of the Watford box with a host of defenders between him and the goal. Using some delicate footwork and intricate trickery, Salah danced past a couple, faking a shot -- which left a player on the ground -- before curling home into the bottom corner to round off the outstanding goal.

It comes in the game after the Egyptian's excellent solo goal against Manchester City two weeks ago in which he jinked past multiple City defenders before firing his right-foot shot past goalkeeper Ederson. When asked whether he's scored a better goal before, he said with a smile: "Last game, maybe!" "I don't know which one is better, this one or the City one. Every time I'm in the box, I'm trying to give the ball to someone to score," he told BT Sport. His goal is his ninth in his last eight consecutive club games, and it is that form that has people suggesting he might be the favorite for this year's Ballon d'Or award. And for leading sports scientist Simon Brundish, he believes Salah should be given the award. "I think if he carries on like this, there's no argument," Brundish said. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp agrees. "His performance was massive today," the German manager told BT Sport afterward. "The pass for the first goal was great and the second goal was special. He is top. We all see it. Who is better than him? We don't have to talk about what Messi and Ronaldo have done for world football and their dominance. But right now, he is the best."

Ruining the party Salah's goal was the crowning moment on what was a comfortable afternoon for Klopp's men -- and a nightmare start for new Watford manager Ranieri. Sadio Mane got the game off to a perfect start for Liverpool, slotting home with just the keeper to beat after Salah's delightful assist. Two goals from Roberto Firmino either side of the halftime break really turned the screw on the home team, before Salah scored his excellent goal. Firmino wrapped up the afternoon, tapping home from close range to complete his hat trick and move Liverpool atop the Premier League table.

While it was the perfect return to the Premier League after the international break for Liverpool, it was the opposite for Ranieri. The Italian was appointed as the new manager of the team on a two-year contract earlier in the month. The 69-year-old replaced Xisco Munoz at the helm, after the Spaniard was sacked after less than 10 months in the job. It is Ranieri's first job in the English top-flight since he stunned the footballing world by winning the Premier League with Leicester City in 2015-16.

The Italian left Serie A side Sampdoria in the summer, and his appointment at Watford is the 20th club for which he's managed. However, his side looked all at sea for the most of the game, conceding sloppy goals and lacking little going forward.

Then the Leicester forwards have Man United's defenders on their heels and that's not been a positive for Harry Maguire, who only started training late in the week and is looking off his game. The next goal looks most likely to come from Leicester. The five-man back line has kept Cristiano Ronaldo in check on the other side. Jadon Sancho is once again invisible.

49th+ min.: Dangerous set piece by Leicester. It's a play right off the training ground for the Foxes and Lindelhof puts it out for a corner before Vardy can get to it. Then the halftime whistle sounds.

Star Trek's William Shatner blasts into space on Blue Origin rocket Hollywood actor William Shatner has become the oldest person to go to space as he blasted off aboard the Blue Origin sub-orbital capsule.

The 90-year-old, who played Captain James T Kirk in the Star Trek films and TV series, took off from the Texas desert with three other individuals.

Mr Shatner's trip on the rocket system - developed by Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos - lasted about 10 minutes.

The craft safely landed just after 10:00 local time (16:00 BST).

Those aboard got to experience a short period of weightlessness as they climbed to a maximum altitude just above 100km (60 miles). From there they were able to see the curvature of the Earth through the capsule's big windows.

"Everybody in the world needs to do this," the Canadian actor told Mr Bezos after landing back on Earth. "It was unbelievable."

Mr Shatner was joined on the flight by Audrey Powers, a Blue Origin vice president; Chris Boshuizen, who co-founded the Earth-imaging satellite company Planet; and Glen de Vries, an executive with the French healthcare software corporation Dassault Systèmes.

They were given a couple of days' training, although there was nothing really major for them to do during the flight other than enjoy it. The rocket and capsule system, known as New Shepard, is fully automatic.

When the capsule touched down in the Texan desert, it was quickly surrounded by ground teams. Mr Bezos himself opened the hatch to check everyone inside was OK.

After the immediate celebrations with family and friends, the crew then lined up to receive their Blue Origin astronaut pins.

This was only the second crewed outing for New Shepard. The first, on 20 July, carried Mr Bezos, his brother Mark, Dutch teenager Oliver Daemen; and famed aviator Wally Funk.

Afterwards, Ms Funk, being 82, was able to claim the record for the oldest person in space - a title she has now relinquished to Mr Shatner.

The launch comes amid claims that Blue Origin has a toxic work culture and failed to adhere to proper safety protocols. The mostly anonymous accusations made by former and present employees have been strenuously denied.

"That just hasn't been my experience at Blue," countered Audrey Powers, who is responsible for mission and flight operations.

"We're exceedingly thorough, from the earliest days up through now as we've started our human flights. Safety has always been our top priority."

William Shatner may have been the first person to go from Star Trek's version of space to the real thing - but three Nasa astronauts have made the opposite journey.

Mae Jemison appeared in an episode of TV sequel Star Trek: The Next Generation, while Mike Fincke and Terry Virts turned up in the final episode of Enterprise, the Star Trek prequel series.

Space tourism is going through something of a renaissance, currently.

Throughout the 2000s a number of high-value individuals paid to visit the International Space Station (ISS). But these flights, organised under the patronage of the Russian space agency, ceased in 2009.

Now, the sector is being rekindled, and this time it looks more resilient, simply because there are many more private space companies chasing the business, and this should bring down prices for a wider pool of customers.

And then, of course, there's Elon Musk, whose Dragon capsule will send people orbital, to circle the Earth for several days - as it did for the privately funded Inspiration4 crew last month.

While Mr Bezos simply invites some people to fly on New Shepard, he is selling other seats. And whereas Sir Richard Branson puts a ticket price (from $450,000; £330,000) against the journey, the Amazon founder does not disclose the fees paid by the likes of Mr Boshuizen and Mr de Vries.

Blue Origin is planning one more crewed flight this year, with several more crewed flights planned for 2022.

William Shatner, TVs Capt. Kirk, blasts into space VAN HORN, Texas (AP) — Hollywood’s Captain Kirk, 90-year-old William Shatner, blasted into space Wednesday in a convergence of science fiction and science reality, reaching the final frontier aboard a ship built by Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin company.

The “Star Trek” actor and three fellow passengers hurtled to an altitude of 66.5 miles (107 kilometers) over the West Texas desert in the fully automated capsule, then safely parachuted back to Earth in a flight that lasted just over 10 minutes.

“What you have given me is the most profound experience,” an exhilarated Shatner told Bezos after climbing out of the hatch, the words spilling from him in a soliloquy almost as long as the flight. “I hope I never recover from this. I hope that I can maintain what I feel now. I don’t want to lose it.”

He said that going from the blue sky to the utter blackness of space was a moving experience: “In an instant you go, `Whoa, that’s death.’ That’s what I saw.”

Shatner became the oldest person in space, eclipsing the previous record — set by a passenger on a similar jaunt on a Bezos spaceship in July — by eight years. The flight included about three minutes of weightlessness and a view of the curvature of the Earth.

Sci-fi fans reveled in the opportunity to see the man best known as the stalwart commander of the starship Enterprise boldly go where no star of American TV has gone before.

“This is a pinch-me moment for all of us to see Capt. James Tiberius Kirk go to space,” Blue Origin launch commentator Jacki Cortese said before liftoff. She said she, like so many others, was drawn to the space business by shows like “Star Trek.”

NASA sent best wishes ahead of the flight, tweeting: “You are, and always shall be, our friend.”

The flight brought priceless star power to Bezos’ space-tourism business, given its built-in appeal to baby boomers, celebrity watchers and space enthusiasts. Shatner starred in TV’s original “Star Trek” from 1966 to 1969, back when the U.S. was racing for the moon, and went on to appear in a string of “Star Trek” movies.

Bezos is a huge “Star Trek” fan — the Amazon founder had a cameo as an alien in one of the later “Star Trek” movies — and Shatner rode free as his invited guest.

As a favor to Bezos, Shatner took up into space some “Star Trek” tricorders and communicators — sort of the iPhones of the future — that Bezos made when he was a 9-year-old Trekkie. Bezos said his mother had saved them for 48 years.

Bezos himself drove the four crew members to the launch pad, accompanied them to the platform high above the ground and cranked the hatch shut after they climbed aboard the 60-foot rocket. He was there to greet them when the capsule floated back to Earth under its brilliant blue-and-red parachutes.

“Hello, astronauts. Welcome to Earth!” a jubilant Bezos said as he opened the hatch of the New Shepard capsule, named for first American in space, Alan Shepard.

Shatner said he was struck by the vulnerability of Earth and the relative sliver of its atmosphere.

“Everybody in the world needs to do this. Everybody in the world needs to see,” he said. “To see the blue color whip by and now you’re staring into blackness, that’s the thing. The covering of blue, this sheath, this blanket, this comforter of blue that we have around, we say, ‘Oh, that’s blue sky.’ And then suddenly you shoot through it all, and you’re looking into blackness, into black ugliness.”

The actor said the return to Earth was more jolting than his training led him to expect and made him wonder whether he was going to make it home alive.

“Everything is much more powerful,” he said. “Bang, this thing hits. That wasn’t anything like the simulator. … Am I going to be able to survive the G-forces? Am I going to be able to survive it?”

Passengers are subjected to nearly 6 G’s, or six times the force of Earth’s gravity, as the capsule descends. Blue Origin said Shatner and the rest of the crew met all the medical and physical requirements, including the ability to hustle up and down several flights of steps at the launch tower.

Shatner going into space is “the most badass thing I think I’ve ever seen,” said Joseph Barra, a bartender who helped cater the launch week festivities. “William Shatner is setting the bar for what a 90-year-old man can do.”

The flight comes as the space tourism industry finally takes off, with passengers joyriding aboard ships built and operated by some of the richest men in the world.

Virgin Galactic’s Richard Branson led the way by flying into space in his own rocket ship in July, followed by Bezos nine days later on Blue Origin’s first flight with a crew. Elon Musk’s SpaceX made its first private voyage in mid-September, though without Musk aboard.

Last week, the Russians launched an actor and a film director to the International Space Station for a movie-making project.’

Blue Origin said it plans one more passenger flight this year and several more in 2022. Sounding like the humane and idealistic Captain Kirk himself, the company said its goal is to “democratize space.”

Shatner strapped in alongside Audrey Powers, a Blue Origin vice president and former space station flight controller for NASA, and two paying customers: Chris Boshuizen, a former NASA engineer, and Glen de Vries of a 3D software company. Blue Origin would not divulge the cost of their tickets.

The flight brought to 597 the number of humans who have flown in space.

William Shatner boldly went into space for real this morning. Here's what he saw Blue Origin's second human spaceflight has returned to Earth after taking a brief flight to the edge of space this morning.

Among the four passengers on board — there is no pilot — was William Shatner, the actor who first played the space-traveling Captain Kirk in the Star Trek franchise.

"The covering of blue. This sheet, this blanket, this comforter that we have around. We think, oh, that's blue sky," an emotional Shatner said after returning to earth.

"Then suddenly you shoot through it all of the sudden, as though you're whipping a sheet off you when you're asleep, and you're looking into blackness, into black ugliness."

At age 90, Shatner is now the oldest person to fly into space.

"I do not know what I may appear to the world, but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore, diverting myself in now & then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me," he said in a tweet after landing.

The rocket, New Shepard, took off around 9:50 a.m. CT from a launch site near Van Horn, Texas.

Joining Shatner on the flight was a Blue Origin employee and two paying customers.

Billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who owns Blue Origin, was on site for the launch and shook the hands of all four passengers as they boarded New Shepard. The rocket is named after American astronaut Alan Shepard.

The entire suborbital journey lasted about 10 minutes. On part of the trip the four passengers experienced weightlessness.

The capsule topped out at an apogee altitude of 351,000 feet (about 66 miles up). It then fell back to earth, landing under a canopy of parachutes in the west Texas desert.

Blue Origin launched its first human spaceflight in July, with Bezos and three others onboard.

Wednesday's flight came about two weeks after 21 current and former Blue Origin employees wrote an essay accusing top executives at the space company of fostering a toxic workplace that permits sexual harassment and sometimes compromises on safety. Blue Origin denied the allegations.
