To Find a Kiss of Yours
[Read on AO3]
Steve remembers his first Valentine's Day. He was in first grade and spent the day prior decorating a shoebox to act as a makeshift mailbox. The next day the class had a party where all the cards were passed out, but throughout the gathering, girls came up to give him extra candy. One girl even kissed him on the cheek and ran off.Ā
Steve felt butterflies in his stomach for the first time that day and decided Valentineā€™s wasnā€™t all that bad.Ā
As the years went on, Steve looked forward to the holiday for reasons beyond extra candy. February 14 was used to fill the void of affection his parents were slowly taking from him.
And once Steve started middle school, and class-wide valentines were no longer mandatory, he realized the holiday was different for him than other boys. Heā€™d get more cards and candy than some of his friends, and in seventh grade, a girl pulled Steve aside to let him know how much she liked him. Steve only knew the girl because they shared a couple of classes, but figured he should be polite and ask her out. After all, that is what all the boys around him would do.Ā
Years later Robin would unpack just how wrong this was to do.Ā
In short, Steve always looked forward to Valentine's Day and even kept a box under his bed where he kept his favorites - the standouts among the mass-printed, store-bought postcards that were delivered to Steve with a personal touch.
When he started Hawkins High a part of him was nervous that one of his steady sources of affection would dry up, but Steve found the exact opposite. The school encouraged the holiday by allowing students to send each other candy-grams and flowers throughout the day. Even among the students, there was a buzz. In the days leading up to V-day, photocopied maps of lockers would be passed around where people could write their friendā€™s name on it, in the hopes that it would encourage more personal gifts and confessions.Ā
In his four years at Hawkins High Steveā€™s name always made it on the map before he could write it.Ā
During his freshman year, Steve gets more than a few candy-grams in homeroom, prompting Tommy and Carol to tease him as they steal his candy.Ā
In between classes, he takes more trips than usual to his locker to collect the cards and notes left for him. Some are signed, some are just a phone number with a name and a lipstick print. Steve canā€™t help but get high off the constant reminders ofĀ wantĀ as the day goes on.
Needing to kill time before the bus towards Loch Nora arrives, Steve heads to his locker after basketball practice. Sure it could have waited until morning, but Steveā€™s never been a patient man.Ā
Inside his locker are a few more notes, but among the pink and pastels that have filled his vision all day, the crimson card stands out. He opens the front flap to find the card is actually an origami note, and not wanting to rip it, carefully unfolds the missive.Ā
His eyes are immediately pulled to the drawing at the bottom: a half-sun and half-moon face on a backdrop of stars. His eyes then wander up to the note to find not a letter, but a short poem -Ā
Some people say my love cannot be true Please believe me, my love, and I'll show you I will give you those things you thought unreal The sun, the moon, the stars all bear my seal
It takes Steve a few times to read it to get the gist of the meaning, and he canā€™t help but blush. Either the writer is talented or she copied someone. Either way, Steve knows this is making it into his special box. Before folding it back Steveā€™s eyes searched the page for a name or phone number, only to find a small ā€œEā€ at the corner of the note.Ā
Steve spends the rest of the week wracking his brain for all the girls in his class and even the year above whose name starts with an E, even going so far as to approach a few of them.Ā
When he gets no answer other than a few dates he puts it out of his mind.Ā
*
Sophomore year is almost an identical repeat of the year before. Candygrams were delivered and stolen by Tommy and Carol. Notes stuffed in his locker, getting more lascivious as the day goes on. It seems his reputation preceded him, and there are more than a few propositions in letter form.
And just like the year before there is a crimson note waiting for him after practice. Steve wasnā€™t even anticipating the note, figuring it was a one-off from the year prior. But seeing it sitting on top of his books, Steve canā€™t help but ignore all the other letters and notes in favor of opening another message from E.
Like last time thereā€™s a drawing, this time of a detailed headstone citing a kiss as the cause of death, the skull atop bearing a lip print. And just like the year before is a poem -Ā
To find a kiss of yours what would I give A kiss that strayed from your lips dead to love
Steve restarts his attempts to find E, only this time he goes for a more subtle approach, flirting with instead of confronting any girl whose name starts with the offending letter.Ā
It doesnā€™t end with Steve solving the mystery but does end with Steve going on dates with Elizabeth, Evelyn, Emily, and Erin.Ā
*
The Valentines of his junior year is an interesting one. Sure heā€™s been dating Nancy for almost three months now, but that doesnā€™t stop some very ambitious girls from sending candy and cards his way. He details each gift to Nancy as the day goes on because that's what a good boyfriend would do, right? And sure, he wishes Nancy would look more perturbed, but all he gets is small kisses on his cheek with her saying they can use the candy as dessert when she makes him dinner this weekend.Ā
The only thing Steve keeps to himself though is his hope for a third crimson note.
Sure Steve hasnā€™t gotten any luck with finding out who the sender is. And even if he did find out this year he couldnā€™t act on it. But there's something about the effort that Steve craves. That someone cares enough about Steve to write, draw, and fold the letter each year.Ā
And just like the years prior the note is there, drawing and all.
Looking up at the stars, I know quite well That, for all they care, I can go to hell, But on earth indifference is the least We have to dread from man or beast. Ā  How should we like it were stars to burn With a passion for us we could not return? If equal affection cannot be, Let the more loving one be me. Ā  Admirer as I think I am Of stars that do not give a damn, I cannot, now I see them, say I missed one terribly all day. Ā  Were all stars to disappear or die, I should learn to look at an empty sky And feel its total dark sublime, Though this might take me a little time.
Not only is this year's poem longer, but the drawing also intrigues Steve. The picture is of a winged man, gazing up at the words written above him with an almost longing expression, while flames dance at his feet. Steve canā€™t help but examine the detail that went into the drawing, and even blushes at how handsome he is.Ā
So the next day when Nancy drags him to the library to study, he sneaks away to ask the librarian if she recognizes the poem (without showing her the note). She walks him over to the poetry section and hands him a collection of British poetry, turning to the section on W.H. Auden.Ā
Steve reads a brief description of the poem, about the unrequited love between the poet and the stars. He bitterly thinks that this love might not be unrequited if he could figure out who his secret admirer was.Ā
Years later Steve would realize two things - Indiana public school books didn't care to mention that W.H. Auden was gay and that he really should have looked at the checkout card inside the book cover.
*Ā
Steve contemplates staying home for the last Valentine's Day of his high school career. He's certain he won't get any grams now that heā€™s fallen from grace and taken no steps to climb back up.Ā
But despite how obnoxious sharing court with Hargrove is, basketball practice is the only thing keeping him sane as he counts down the days till graduation.Ā
Steve didn't even mean to go back to his locker that day not wanting to be disappointed by the lack of a crimson note. But he needs his notes to study for chemistry, and as he pulls out the binder the crimson letter falls to the floor.Ā
Steve can't help the way his heart clenches at the sight. How such a simple thing can remind him why he loves his holiday so much?Ā
He then figures that the sender. Must be someone in his grade if they've kept these notes coming all four years.Ā
Passing stranger! You do not know how longingly I look upon you, You must be he I was seeking,Ā or sheĀ I was seeking, (it comes to me as of a dream,) I have somewhere surely lived a life of joy with you, All is recallā€™d as we flit by each other, fluid, affectionate, chaste, matured, You grew up with me, were a boy with meĀ or a girl with meĀ , I ate with you and slept with you, your body has become not yours only nor left my body mine only, You give me the pleasure of your eyes, face, flesh, as we pass, you take of my beard, breast, hands, in return, I am not to speak to you, I am to think of you when I sit alone or wake at night alone, I am to wait, I do not doubt I am to meet you again, I am to see to it that I do not lose you.
Steve sinks onto the floor as he reads the poem over and over again. He can't help but smirk at how the bits about girls are stricken through, but also that it's a farewell of sorts. It leaves Steve with a bittersweet feeling to know he'll never find out the sender's identity.Ā
*Ā
Over piles of discount candy in 1986, Steve shares with Robin the details of the crimson notes tucked under his bed. Robin can't help but laugh as she looks through them pointing out to Steve how fucking homo erotic all the poems are.Ā
After a bit of denial, Steve finally admits that Robin may be right and kicks himself for only searching for girls back when he was in high school. Realizing he didn't bother to get a copy of the yearbook he asks Robin if he can come one day to search the pages at her house for clues. But a few weeks later literal hell breaks loose and he forgets all about it
Part of Steve wishes he actually bothered to get a copy of the yearbook so he could search the pages, but a few weeks later literal hell breaks loose and he forgets all about it
*
It's February 1987 and Steve is wondering how he's spending Valentine's Day Eve cleaning up his kitchen after the party wraps their D&D session for the night.Ā
Eddie is helping him tidy as he recounts how on the ride over to Steve's, Dustin was explaining how nervous he was about his radio date with Suzie the next day wanting to do something special but not cheesy.Ā
ā€œI told him he should recite some poetry and he told me that's lame,ā€ Eddie says in a way that expresses their mutual frustration with Henderson.Ā
ā€œIt's not lame. If it's done right,ā€ Steve agrees.Ā
ā€œThe little shit then told me that metal lyrics don't count as poetry and I told him that I know more than just metal lyrics.ā€Ā
Steve can't help but look amused and gestures for Eddie to regale him with a poem.Ā
Eddie clears his throat and begins, ā€œTo find a kiss of yours what I would giveā€¦ā€
ā€œA kiss that strayed from your lips...dead to love,ā€ Steve finishes unthinking. After all, he read those words hundreds of times.Ā
That's when it clicks for Steve. TheĀ EĀ written in the corner of all those notes stood for Eddie.Ā
Eddie's eyes catch Steve's and he visibly swallows. His complexion pails and he looks like he's about to run for it, but Steve sputters out his confession.Ā
ā€œI kept them all.ā€Ā
Eddie's eyes widened even further at that as if he couldn't believe what Steve was saying.
ā€œYou did?ā€
ā€œYeah. Want to see them? They're in my room.ā€
ā€œThat's quite a line, Harringtonā€
ā€œWell not all of us can be poets.ā€

Part 2 - Eddie's POV
Eddie had always dreamed of being a hero after the first time he saw one on the news. He didn't like the way his dad scoffed at his announcement over dinner, but his mother indulged him. She sewed him a costume based on his doodles and let him tell her about all his future adventures. That was until she got sick and while in Eddie's imagination he could save her, reality didn't match up.
When he put on his costume months after her death his dad screamed at him. After all how could the son of a dealer and car thief ever be a hero? The Munson's couldn't afford hero school. It was once in a blue moon that some kid from public school even made it into any noteworthy hero school. Why would Eddie think he was that special. That night the reality of Eddie's life hit him and he put away his mom's costume along with his dreams.
His quirk came a month into living with Uncle Wayne. He was sitting in his room, singing along to his Metallica cassette, when suddenly he became aware of the location of everything in the trailer and gave himself a headache. Wayne found him curled up on the floor and after a trip to the free clinic Eddie heard the term echolocation for the first time.
Eddie was thankful he'd given up his hopes of becoming a hero because what a lame quirk to be saddled with.
Or at least that's what he thought until one night he was randomly clicking his tongue, his usual night time entertainment to spy on the trailer park, and saw someone trying to break into the Gilbert trailer. Eddie walked outside and shone a light on the would be robber and they went running. And that's all it took for Eddie to start using his power for surveillance and evasion.
Throughout his teenage years he honed his skills, adding some rough combat skills to the mix, and without formal training took the license exam. It took him a few tries but in the end he got it.
It was during his last try that he encountered All-American for the first time. Sure Eddie had seen him on the news, because who hadn't? But seeing him up close with his perfect costume and support items caused a resentment to begin bubbling. Seems all his dad's rants about the have and have nots really got to him.
And years later when he ran into All-American aka Steve during his first month at the nation's top hero academy, he couldn't help but give him the cold shoulder.
But that didn't stop Eddie from stealing glances when he could.
Steddie MHA AU
Steve never dreamed of being a hero when he was young. Partially because it didn't fascinate him like it did the other kids, but mainly because his dad found the idea to be boorish. Hero work was for idealists and a form of manual labor. But that didn't stop Harrington Inc. from manufacturing support items and profiting from the hero industry.
Steve's quirk manifested later than most, and it happened during his middle school baseball game. That's when the choice to be a hero was made for him. What should have been a simple swing sent the ball flying out of the park, unraveling as it flew. It was caught on video and soon news outlets were playing the clip on repeat, and that's when his father saw an opportunity. What better way to expand Harrington Inc. into hero management than by molding his own son to be a top ranking hero.
And that's how All-American came to be.
Before Steve knew it he was sent off to the top hero school in the country already with a hero name, costume, and scheduled appearances. After all Richard Harrington always had money to spent on status. He was sent to every top junior hero event and without being asked was signed up for every competition.
It's not that Steve didn't enjoy hero work. Once he got into it he really found a fondness for it and really grew at his internships. And once he graduated he was under Richard's thumb less and less.
Sure he stuck to the gimmicky baseball schtick - his signature item was a bat that channeled his quirk and his costume was a classic 1950s baseball uniform - but it was worth it. He was recognizable and kids were always eager to meet him.
And over the years he climbed up the American hero ranks. It was when he cracked the top 20 that his father gave him a slightly approving nod and when Steve didn't feel the rush of approval, but instead a rising anxiety, he knew he needed a change.
That's when he took up his best friend Robin's job offer. When she wasn't called in for hostage negotiation - her language quirk lent itself to that - she taught at their alma mater. She's been bugging him to join their staff for ages and Steve finally accepts.
He loves his job as a teacher and his inital batch of first years capture his heart. Particularly a small cohort of hero hopefuls who keep calling their future agency "the Party". His first year goes off without a hitch and come second year he's happy to have his same homeroom.
But as the weeks go on Steve starts to hear more and more about one of new Heroics teacher, a solo vigilante type who goes by his first name - Eddie. He's seen him around the staff areas, and from what Robin tells him he took the job after Principal Hopper brokered a deal with the hero commission following an incident. But that's not what's bothering Steve. No, what has him riled is the way his kids suddenly worship a hero who seems to flaunt all the values of heroing.
And all that's made worse by the way Steve can't stop staring at him.

Lexi Lexi you got me thinking with the cute teen mom Steve idea.. omega teen mom Steve, nice, a classic.
But, what about teen dad alpha Steve who sleeps around and gets a call from the hospital out of the blue saying hey, you've got a kid here.
And what if his parents tell him not to come home with the baby and to put it up for adoption.
And where is a suddenly homeless single teen parent going to live if not the trailer park?
And something happens to make him worry about having baby taken from him, because everyone knows a single alpha isn't fit to raise a baby alone, they don't have the maternal instincts needed, even though Steve has always been way too maternal for an alpha.
And enter his neighbour Eddie Munson, weirdo maybe closeted omega who maybe somehow saves Steve's ass by claiming to be the mother. And maybe then they fall in love and have more babies. Maybe that.
Do you guys want me to get in trouble for discussing teen pregnancy on here again?šŸ˜ I love this idea and everything about it, but I swear to god if anyone starts shit, Iā€™m throwing the whole ship away.
Eddie would totally start off annoyed as fuck about the constantly crying baby next door, so he initially goes to his neighborā€™s front door to ask why their kid wonā€™t shut the hell up.
It only takes one look at Steveā€™s heartbroken face for him to realize that the baby isnā€™t crying from lack of trying on his part.
And goddamnit, yeah, Eddie doesnā€™t normally go around openly advertising his omega status, but if he doesnā€™t help this poor alpha, who else is gonna?
So maybe he scoops up Steveā€™s pup and rips off his scent blocker patch, letting a soothing scent out in order to calm her down.
Itā€™s not like he cares about a stranger.
But Steve needed help and the baby needed to sleep so Eddie could sleep.
If it becomes a nightly routine of Eddie coming over to give him a hand, thatā€™s nobodyā€™s business but theirs.
At least until someone reports Steve for being a single father and Eddie doesnā€™t even check before claiming to be the other parent.
Moving in together is the natural next stepā€” to keep up the rouse of course!
The falling in love part is less of a plan and more of a happy accident.

ā€œHey so ā€¦ I have some mixed news,ā€ Steve says.
ā€œUh oh,ā€ Eddie says, ā€œare they changing your position, are you gonna be a ā€” like a third base catcher man?ā€
Steve laughs and shakes his head, ā€œno, nothing that bad - I found out more about the whole like, bringing a person along thing.ā€
ā€œOh cool,ā€ Eddie says, sliding down on the couch next to him, ā€œdo I get like a fancy VIP pass?ā€
ā€œYou do,ā€ Steve says, ā€œthereā€™s just one catch.ā€
ā€œOkay?ā€ Eddie asks, tilting his head and reaching for the tv remote.
ā€œApparently they usually reserve the box for the wives and girlfriends ā€¦ so either youā€™re gonna have to be my boyfriend or youā€™re going to have to sit in the stands with the fans.ā€
Eddie makes a noise that must register to Steve as alarmed or upset because he rushes to finish.
ā€œItā€™s not that bad, you just need to like, pretend to be my boyfriend so you can sit with the other WAGs and like, then you can be in the box and have all you can drink alcohol and snacks.ā€
ā€œDid you agree to this!?ā€ Eddie asks.
ā€œIf I say yes, how mad are you going to be?ā€ Steve asks.
šŸš Six Kids and a Winnebago by Oddree13 (@oddree13)
Summer has come to Hawkins and the kids begged and pleaded to be driven to the lake to swim. Eddie agreed to take the second car full of gremlins which is how he finds himself sitting in the shade with Robin while the kids splash around the lakeshore. Almost immediately upon arrival, Steve began to set up a sandwich station for lunch with Nancy offering her assistance, leaving the pair to gossip and chat.
Eddie scans the scene before him and takes in the sight of Harrington and Wheeler making sandwich after sandwich, while the teenagers start a game of chicken. Itā€™s almost too domestic for his taste but reminds him of something heā€™s been meaning to ask Robin. ā€œSo tell me, how much shit have you given Harrington for his six kids and a Winnebago comment?ā€
šŸ‘‘ Out of Curiosity by camouflagedlove (@edtheymunsthem)
ā€œSo youā€™re not attracted to me? Like at all?ā€ Steve asked.
Robin dropped her head onto the counter with a loud thump and a groan.
ā€œSteve, buddy, you can calm down. I, Eddie Munson, am not attracted to nor planning to hit on King Steve. Scoutā€™s honor,ā€ Eddie held up his fingers to mirror a scout salute.
Or: 5 times Eddie wouldn't admit he finds Steve attractive and 1 time he finally did.
āš”ļø electric feel by griesly (@griesly)
An ordinary shift at tech support ends up being the best thing to ever happen to Eddie Munson when frantic history major Steve Harrington rushes in to the repair shop (and his life) with a deadline to meet.
šŸˆ Munson Jr by ItCanBePalped (@itcanbepalped)
Munson. Harrington adopted a hideous alley cat and named it fucking Munson. He couldn't think of a single way to take that as a compliment. Was it too much to hope they were friends enough that they would be above insults? Wasn't Harrington supposed to be a good dude these days?

soulmate-esque au where steve is born with a psychic power where the first time he touches someone who will be important to him, he gets flashes of future moments between the two of them.
the first time he touches nancy he sees flashes of the two of them happy together, then an argument. the flashes clearly jump ahead a few years, as if they maybe stopped talking for a while, but they still look happy in that future. he thinks that maybe they get in a big fight, but clearly theyā€™re still in each others lives for a long, long time.
when he ruffles dustinā€™s hair looking for dart, he gets flashes of laughter and jokes and a long life of brotherhood. he sees secret handshakes and little plastic dice and being invited to thanksgiving.
theyā€™re not always positive. the first time he brushes past billy in the locker room, heā€™s filled with flashes of anger and dread and pain, and none of what he sees makes sense in the moment.
on his first day at scoops, he shakes robinā€™s hands and gets his biggest vision yet. thereā€™s so much love and happiness and joy there, including a montage in which they seem to work a frankly absurd variety of jobs. but he gets stuck on an image of himself in a tux, robin in a wedding dress, and thinks this must be my future wife.
it isnā€™t until much later, on a dirty bathroom floor, that he realizes he was standing behind robin in that vision of her in a wedding dress, and, oh, heā€™s her best man.
almost a year later, when eddie pushes him against a wall with a broken bottle to his neck, steve is almost convinced heā€™s passed out because of the sheer number of visions running through his head. some of the flashes are innocent happy momentsā€”sharing a joint, laughing at a movie, making dinnerā€”but thereā€™s also flashes of pleasure and adoration and devotion on a level that steveā€™s never felt before.
he sees flashes of waking up next to eddie in bed, walking a dog around a lake hand in hand, watching eddie perform on stage, a soft kiss to a bare shoulder.
and suddenly steve yearns, thinks heā€™s never fully known the meaning of that word until now. he tries to play it cool, doesnā€™t want to freak eddie out, but heā€™s seen so many visions of them holding hands that his fingers itch with the need to interlace with eddieā€™s.
when eddie is attacked by demobats, everyone tries to get steve and dustin to leave eddieā€™s body behind, because clearly eddie is dead. and steve canā€™t explain to them why he knows that canā€™t be true, he just stubbornly insists and drags eddie to a hospital as he promises again and again to dustin that eddie is going to make it.
everyone but steve is shocked when the doctors find the barest hint of a pulse.
itā€™s touch and go at first, but they put eddie in a medically induced coma and he starts to improve. steve is there the whole time. he tells the unconscious eddie about all of the things they still have to do together, about how he knows eddie will live a long, happy life because heā€™s seen eddie with gray in his hair, laugh lines etched into his face, as they welcome their first grandchild to the world.
and eddie makes it, and when he was up eddie tells steve he heard everything. steve steels himself for denial or disbelief, but eddie tells him that itā€™s the first thing heā€™s heard in the past month that actually makes sense.
they share their first kiss right there in the hospital room, and even though steve has seen this moment before, it still takes his breath away.
as he grows older, steve notices more and more of the moments heā€™s seen in visions as they happen. he happily discovers that thereā€™s so much the visions donā€™t show, and thereā€™s still so much to see.
because yes, just like he saw all those years ago, he stands behind robin at her wedding, and itā€™s as moving and special as it always looked. but he also gives max away at her and lucasā€™s wedding, and he helps dustin propose to suzie, and he helps erica pick out her wedding dress. and, of course, robin stands behind steve at his own wedding.
steve lives a long happy life, with so many memoriesā€”seen and unseenā€”to look forward to.

Submissions Open - Lo-Fi Steddie Zine Project
Link to Submissions
About this Project
The goal of this project is more to collect than to create.Ā
One of the ways I got so into Steddie was through engaging with community online through Twitter and Tumblr. But even though the internet is forever, some ideas get lost.Ā
The goal of this zine to collect snippets of Steddie fanlore and preserve it in zine form for future enjoyment.Ā
The current open categories for works are:
Canon Threads
Alternate Universes
Omegaverse
BDSM
Contribute vs. Create
As stated about the goal of this is to collect not create.Ā
What that means is that all content submitted should already be published on your timeline. This is for two reasons:
As creators of fic, drabbles, threads, and art, we don't need another project to do
Keep the project cost low - basically the cost of printing and postage.Ā
Creators deserve to be compensated so their work so this zine is entirely voluntary and a labor of love. I will not be taking tweets and Tumblr posts from anyone that did not give permission.
What Can I Contribute?
For all zines the following items can be contributed:
Tweets and Twitter threads
Tumblr posts
Discord screengrabs
The parameters for the first zines are as follows:
Canon Threads
Anything and everything as long as it fits within the following "canon" - (1) Everyone lives and nobody dies ala pre-vol 2; (2)Ā Steve and Eddie are aware of each others existence; and (3) No alternate universes that aren't plausible within the Stranger Things universe as it stands.Ā
Examples of this include - characterizations, future plans, how they get together, upside down interactions, babysitting the kids, coping after the upside down, reunited in the future, etc.Ā
Alternate Universes
Any sort of AU that is outside of ST canon
Any sort of AU that isn't A/B/O
Omegaverse
Anything in the realm of omegaverse is fair game
BDSM
These boys are spicy and we are too! Submit all your bdsm headcanons, flagging theories, and top/bottom thoughts.Ā
If you aren't sure feel free to ask or submit whatever and see what sticks.Ā
Rating wise we're going to stick with the E rating on AO3, and there will be SFW and NSFW options for purchase if there is high demand.Ā
Please avoid DDDNE and Dark themes as the editor is a sensitive bean. Angst is fine.Ā Ā
Submission Lengths
About 2500 words
This includes thread fics (that are about 15-20 tweets) and tumblr posts.Ā
If that thread went on to become a fic later in time, link it too so I can share that with readers.
All usernames will be kept on the contributing posts. You do not have to be active on twitter right now to submit, so archived and private tweets can be submitted, just allowed the @lofi_steddie account access.
Some examples of thread fics and headcanons are below
Example 1
Example 2
What Will It Look Like?
Lo-fi. Very lo-fi.
This is going to be me, taking screenshots of tweets and posts, gluing them on a page, and then copying it on a Xerox
It will not be in color. It will look DIY.Ā
If you want to contribute art it will also be black and white.
The goal is to keep costs low and color ink is pricey
Do Contributors Get Copies?
Yes! You'll be the first to get them. If you contribute I'll do my best to make them free to you. If you are outside of the US a PDF version will be made available.Ā

Submissions Open - Steddie Zine
New account, new project (It's @oddree13). A new project I hope people enjoy and participate in.
One of my biggest hang-ups about fandom is my inability to create art or something physical that people want to keep. Yes, I write fic but the tangibility of it usually only goes as far as a screen. So I'm making this zine project as a way to collect the fandom's fleeting thoughts about Steve, Eddie, and all the characters in between.
The first volume will be called Headcanons & is based on the random tweets and posts we as a fandom make when we encounter Steddie inspo.
In the future, I want to collect thread and drabble fics but as a test run zine, I wanted to start small. So check the link for more information and I can wait to see what we make!

Restless Year - Chapter 10
(Part 1) (Part 2)Ā (Part 3) (Part 4)
(Prior Chapter) (Next Chapter)
(Read on AO3)
Chapter 10 - Story of My Life
As much as Eddie loves having D&D on Wednesdays, heā€™s happy to have an evening to just write a campaign instead of running one. Dustin had roped him into the idea of a New Year's Day one-shot because it originally sounded like a good way to kick off 1990. But with the chaos of the week, he's been too busy to think of his home brew let alone write it out. He has half a mind to call Dustin and order him to DM if he wants them to play so badly. God his past self would punch current Eddie right now for that thought. But thatā€™s what growing up is, isnā€™t it?Ā
Steve had teased him weeks ago for admitting to growing up. And sure, itā€™s not a thought he likes to dwell on. Honestly, it still makes his skin tight to think of himself as an actual adult, but itā€™s reality. Heā€™s 24 and, for once, has priorities beyond getting high and rolling dice - like getting home around sundown to light the menorah with Steve. Itā€™s funny how lackadaisical he was in the past about holidays beyond Halloween. But when that first Christmas with Steve came around he knew heā€™d do anything to rewrite all the shitty Harrington holiday memories, including watching Steve try maror like a champ. And now with the prospect of them adding to their family, it wouldnā€™t be the worst to have more than a few traditions to call their own.
The apartment is oddly quiet when he gets home. Eddie knows Steve and Max had plans to go to the movies this afternoon. He thinks some Disney film about a mermaid, but it's odd they arenā€™t back yet. He walks to the fridge to check for a note, but there isnā€™t one. Just as the worry in him starts to build, he hears muffled voices coming from the hall. It only takes a few steps to realize the voices are coming from the bathroom and wonders what on earth the pair could be doing in there together.Ā
ā€œHey I'm home,ā€ he announces, knocking lightly. ā€œWhat are you two up to?ā€
It takes a few seconds but the door opens in answer. He sees Max and Steve on the floor, both their eyes red-rimmed as if they'd been crying awhile. Eddie's mind runs through a million scenarios. Did someone get hurt? Did the upside-down reopen? Is someone dead? Is this the reason for Max's visit?Ā
Eddie scans the pair hoping for a clue when his eyes fall on the plastic stick in Steve's hand. "Sweetheart, is that yours or Max's?"Ā
Max looks more amused than offended at Eddieā€™s question. Steve glances down at the stick, as if heā€™s worried the results would change, before passing it to Eddie. ā€œMine,ā€ he offers, as Eddieā€™s eyes fixate on the little plus sign. Heā€™s never had to take a pregnancy test before but heā€™s seen enough movies to know what that sign means. Steve is pregnant. Steve is pregnant, which means theyā€™re having a pup. Eddie is having a kid.Ā
A million things run through his mind. When did this happen? Theyā€™re going to need a bigger place. How long until a kid can learn guitar? Steve has definitely drunk alcohol recently. Do dads have long hair? I need to stop smoking. Do dads have tattoos? I should stop cursing so much. Can I take tattoos off? I need to build a crib. Can I take the baby to work with me? Can babies listen to metal? I hope the baby looks like Steve. Can the kid look like both of them? Iā€™m going to have to hide my dice sets. How young is too young for a character sheet? Do they even live near good schools? Holy shit Steve is still in school. Holy shit Iā€™m not in school anymore. Should I go to school? How am I going to help with math homework? Wheeler can tutor. Robin is going to kill me for knocking up her best friend. Wait, no, Steve is my mate. I can knock up my mate. His mate is pregnant. Steve is pregnant.Ā
His brain keeps populating questions and worries until Max clears her throat, snapping Eddie out of his trance. He looks from her stern face to Steve who isnā€™t looking at Eddie but rather at the floor again. He realizes heā€™s been quiet for too long. He tries to form a sentence, but canā€™t get his brain and mouth to connect. All he can manage is a manic sort of laugh because just moments ago he was walking home thinking of the day theyā€™d grow their family only for it to be happening right now.Ā
Eddie leans against the door jamb, trying to compose himself as he just stares at the stick in disbelief and excitement. He canā€™t stop giggling, and fuck if this isnā€™t a way to end the decade.Ā
ā€œPlease tell me that laughing means good news?ā€ Steve asks him, his voice a little strained and watery.Ā
ā€œGreat news, baby,ā€ Eddie assures and sinks down to join his mate on the floor. He leans over to kiss Steve, pulling back eventually just to look at the stick again. ā€œI thought we agreed on no gifts this year.ā€
That finally pulls a laugh from Steve. ā€œIn my defense, it was delivered around Halloween.ā€
ā€œNope, Iā€™m out. Let me out,ā€ Max declares, and starts climbing over the two of them to make her way out of the bathroom. Eddie scoots over just enough to let her leave and then closes the door.Ā
He leans into Steveā€™s space, tangling their legs together. He pulls Steve into another kiss, needing to get his hands on his mate. They probably shouldnā€™t be sitting on the bathroom floor, but all Eddie wants to do is touch Steve and the location isnā€™t going to stop him. He let his hands slide down to Steveā€™s waist, his fingers gliding over the exposed skin, grinning once it hits him that his pup is in there somewhere. He breathes Steve in, his change in scent making more sense now. The last few weeks make way more sense in context.
ā€œHow are you feeling?ā€ Eddie whispers as he shifts around Steve so heā€™s shoulder to shoulder with his mate, giving into his desire to scent him. Something about the gravity of this moment makes him keep his voice low, as if talking at a normal volume would wake him from this dream.Ā
ā€œSo many things Ed. So many things. I was making breakfast when Max started asking all these questionsā€¦ And a part of me knew, but a part of me thought there was no way. We hadnā€™t planned on it. I was on birth control. But Max kept insisting there was no harm in a test. So after the movie, I went to the store.ā€Ā
Eddie can imagine Steve just sitting through the movie, vibrating in his seat while he tried to pretend everything was alright. A part of him wonders if he would have told Eddie if the test had been negative and he hadnā€™t come home at the right time. Sure itā€™s unplanned, but Eddie knows how much Steve wants kids. He knows that planned or not heā€™d be crushed by a negative test, and Eddie hopes that theyā€™ve grown enough that Steve would share his disappointment regardless.Ā
ā€œHow much of the movie did you actually manage to take in?ā€
ā€œNone of it,ā€ Steve laughs, resting his head on Eddieā€™s shoulder. ā€œWhich is fine. Suzie will definitely want to see it and I doubt her family will let her watch it over the holidays.ā€
Eddie hums in agreement as his hand trials back to Steveā€™s waist, plucking at the edge of his shirt for permission. Steve lifts the fabric, and smiles as Eddieā€™s hand splays over his abdomen. ā€œNothing to see there yet babe,ā€ Steve mumbles, eyes closing as he relaxes.Ā
ā€œDoesnā€™t mean there isnā€™t someone there.ā€ In a matter of moments, Eddieā€™s whole world has changed. The last time his life changed so quickly, heā€™d been thrown into a world of chaos that left him on the run and with missing chunks of skin. And while this is definitely preferable to the upside-down, itā€™s no less terrifying. ā€œSo what do we do now?ā€
ā€œI guess go to the local clinic just to get started and then find an actual doctor. Fuck do we even have health insurance?ā€
Eddie perks up at that. ā€œYes! Yes, we do. I actually get it through work and put you on it. Holy shit was that a responsible decision? Donā€™t expect that again anytime soon.ā€Ā
They sit on the floor a bit longer until Steve starts to shift against Eddie. ā€œEds, love, weā€™re going to regret being on the floor very soon. And honestly, I need water.ā€
Their location suddenly hits Eddie and he feels very dumb for keeping Steve on the tile. ā€œRight, bathroom floors are for revelations, not celebrations.ā€ Eddie stands up first and helps Steve up, nuzzling him as soon as heā€™s upright. ā€œIā€™ll get you water. Just go to the sofa and relax.ā€
ā€œI can get myself water Eddie,ā€ Steve tries, but without thinking Eddie rumbles. Any normal omega would maybe demure or obey. But not Steve. Steve just laughs and kisses Eddieā€™s cheek. ā€œSure thing Alpha, you can get me water. Bring Max some too if you want.ā€ Eddie scents Steve again before letting him walk to the sofa and is about to follow when he spies their open bedroom door. He rummages around a bit to find what he needs and tosses it to Steve as he walks to the kitchen.Ā
ā€œWill you ever hand me clothes like a normal person?ā€ Steve calls out as the sweatshirt leaves his face. Max finds it amusing, and Eddie only half listens as Steve tells her all the time Eddie has just thrown clothes at him. ā€œIt always happens when his alpha is in control,ā€ Steve mumbles, pulling off his shirt, and swapping it for Eddieā€™s worn-in sweatshirt.Ā
From the kitchen, Eddie takes in the view of Steve in his clothes curled close to one of their adopted pups. Out of all the kids, Max isnā€™t one of the most tactile, but it seems that the emotions of the day have gotten to both of them. If the polaroid didnā€™t make so much noise heā€™d chance a snap.
ā€œWater for both of you and take out menus. Weā€™re ordering in tonight,ā€ Eddie announces as he walks back to the living room. He can see that Steve wants to argue, but when Max starts shuffling through the options he deflates.Ā
ā€œCan we have pizza?ā€ Max asks. ā€œDustin keeps saying the pizza here is like pie and I sort of want to try it. Sounds better than the pineapple pizza El and Will keep trying to force on me.ā€
ā€œPizza sounds good. Definitely, no pineapple,ā€ Steve seconds, leaning into Eddie who settles in behind his omega. As he listens as the two debate through topping choices, Eddie finds his hand drifting back to Steveā€™s waist, his fingers splaying protectively over his stomach. Itā€™s barely been a half hour but heā€™s suddenly aware that there is something there to protect. Eddieā€™s never been one to give into instinct and he prides himself on it. But he can definitely say that if Max wasnā€™t in their pack, he would have shoved her out of the apartment and barricaded Steve in their bedroom.Ā
ā€œMunson. Eddie. Dad,ā€ Max calls, waving the menu hand in front of his face. He snatches the paper from her and rolls his eyes at her smirk. ā€œOrder a cheese and a pepperoni, and some garlic rolls. Steve also wants cannolis.ā€
ā€œDoes he want cannolis or do you want them and are using him as an excuse? Also would please actually kill you?ā€
ā€œNo, I actually want cannolis. Max doesnā€™t know what they are and apparently ā€˜cheese is not dessertā€™,ā€ Steve parrots back.Ā
ā€œAlmost a year at college and youā€™re still eating like youā€™re in Indiana? Disappointment, Red. What do they teach you at school?ā€ Eddie taunts and reluctantly gets up to order. ā€œYou two pick something to watch that isnā€™t sports. Pregnant or not, Iā€™m not watching basketball.ā€Ā
*
ā€œDo you think they can hear me?ā€ Eddie is settled between Steveā€™s legs, resting his head on Steveā€™s thigh so he can look up his omegaā€™s body.Ā
ā€œI genuinely donā€™t know. I wasnā€™t in the omega development class when we had it in high school and my parents for sure didnā€™t give me more than the basics. Iā€™ll go get a book or something tomorrow. Why do you want to know?ā€
Eddie stares at the strip of exposed skin between Steveā€™s pajamas and worries his lip. ā€œDunno. Kind of want to chat with them. Tell them how excited I am to meet them. See if they might enjoy the Hobbit while they chill in there.ā€
ā€œAre you using this pregnancy as an excuse to finally get me to read Lord of the Rings?ā€
ā€œNah, you donā€™t even have to be awake while I read. Iā€™m perfectly fine giving a performance to an audience of one.ā€ Eddie presses a kiss to Steveā€™s stomach before moving back up the bed to lie next to Steve.Ā
ā€œYou think weā€™re ready?ā€ The question hangs heavy between them because there isnā€™t a good answer.Ā
Eddie plays with the ring on Steveā€™s finger as he thinks. ā€œI donā€™t think anyone is ever really ready, but Iā€™m down for another adventure with Steve Harrington. I know I never thought Iā€™d make it this far so itā€™s not like I ever pictured this beyond the abstract.ā€
ā€œYou have baby names picked out Eds,ā€ Steve counters.
ā€œOne name, Steve, and I guess teenage me was hopeful. I mean past me certainly didnā€™t actually think Iā€™d find someone to like me let alone have a kid with me.ā€Ā
ā€œWhat would teenage you say if you time travelled to tell him?ā€
Eddie has to laugh at that image. ā€œHe wouldnā€™t believe me. Hell, I think heā€™d hate me in some ways. Fourteen year old me was a prick. But then again what fourteen year old isnā€™t? Heā€™d punch me for cancelling D&D, call me a sellout for getting a job, but heā€™d be floored to know I bagged Steve Harrington.ā€
ā€œWas I even on your radar at fourteen?ā€Ā
ā€œYou were on everyoneā€™s radar back then Stevie. Not even I was above notice. You were a pretty boy then and you're still a pretty boy now. Prettier really.ā€
ā€œYouā€™re just saying that because I have your pup in me.ā€
ā€œThat you do Stevie, that you do. But that only adds to how gorgeous you already are.ā€ Eddie pulls Steve into his arms, curling protectively around his mate. ā€œThank you,ā€ he whispers, half wishing the lights were already off so Steve wouldnā€™t see his face.Ā
ā€œFor what Eddie?ā€Ā
ā€œGiving me a family to call my own.ā€
***
They manage to keep the news quiet for three days.Ā
If Steve thought a baby would be the impetus for a bigger apartment, the four college freshmen invading his living room floor just confirmed it. With classes starting on January 2, Suzie and Dustin had to be back in the city. On his own, Lucas opted to fly out of Oā€™Hare back to DC, hitching a bus ride with Dustin at the last minute.Ā
Dustin has his notes for tomorrow laid out in front of him as he helpsĀ  Lucas and Suzie make character sheets. Heā€™d been so ecstatic at the chance to run a campaign that he didnā€™t question why Eddie was handing over the reins.Ā
ā€œWhy arenā€™t you in there with them? You should go hang out.ā€ Steve is whipping cream as Eddie cleans the dishes from dinner, the radio filling the kitchen with a companionable din.Ā
ā€œBecause I feel like youā€™ve been cooking non-stop since Thanksgiving, and I need to do something. Besides I could say the same for you - theyā€™re your kids too and you should be resting.ā€
ā€œEddie nothing has changed in the four days since weā€™ve found out. I will be fine making mousse. So go help Dustin and send Max in here. Iā€™m sure sheā€™d appreciate the break. Weā€™re all going to sleep tonight with the sound of dice rolling in our dreams.ā€ Eddie pokes Steveā€™s side before acquiescing and walks to the living room, a few cans of beer in hand.Ā
ā€œAre you actually letting us drink tonight or are you relegating us to sparkling apple cider,ā€ Dustin asks, eyeing the beers in Eddieā€™s hand.
ā€œThat all depends, are you going to have a hangover for Dungeons and Dragons tomorrow if I let you drink?ā€ Eddieā€™s threat is empty as he tosses Max a can. ā€œBesides, the cider isnā€™t for you.ā€
ā€œI know itā€™s for Suzie,ā€ Dustin supplies, and Steve snorts at the assumption from the kitchen. For all of Dustinā€™s deductive abilities, he has a blind spot for the glaringly obvious. Like when he kept trying to get Robin and Steve together.
Lucas walks into the kitchen in lieu of Max, and awkwardly waves at Steve to check if his presence in the kitchen is welcome.Ā
ā€œHey Lucas, come to help me wash up?ā€ When he gets a nod Steve has to ask. ā€œIs Max playing tomorrow?ā€Ā
ā€œNo, no,ā€ Lucas laughs, ā€œshe just told me to earn my keep. Which thanks again for letting me crash here for a few days. Iā€™m sure youā€™re regretting your decision already.ā€
ā€œNot at all. Itā€™s nice to have visitors. Youā€™ll get to see the shop tomorrow, and the staff will be thrilled to meet another one of Eddieā€™s kids - especially because youā€™ll be nicer than Max.ā€ Steve had heard about her spat with Jamie - not from Eddie but from Max herself who was very proud.
Lucas smiles fondly at that, looking out of the kitchen towards the redhead. ā€œSheā€™s just protective of you. I mean we all are but Max cares about you. A lot man. Donā€™t tell her I said that though because sheā€™d kill me for telling you.ā€
ā€œMy lips are sealed, but Iā€™d like to remind you all that I am older than all of you and can handle myself.ā€ Steve looks over and sees Lucas drying the same plate over and over again as if heā€™s thinking something through. Steve is about to ask Lucas to spit it out when the younger man beats him to it.Ā
ā€œThank you for letting her stay here.ā€ The statement is barely above a whisper but Steve knows itā€™s because he doesnā€™t want the living room to hear. ā€œI donā€™t know if sheā€™s told you why, and I barely know all the details, you know how Max is. I should probably be jealous or upset that she doesnā€™t come to me with this stuff but weā€™re complicated - whatā€™s new,ā€ he sighs.Ā
Steve just listens as Lucas continues, moving around the kitchen to give them some plausible cover. ā€œIā€™m glad she has you. I know we all do,ā€ he assures when he sees Steve try to interject. ā€œI think most of us were worried that once you and Eddie left youā€™d sort of move on from your babysitting role. But when you first called me at school to ask me for my game schedule I knew I was dumb for worrying.ā€
ā€œI havenā€™t missed a game,ā€ Steve preens and gestures to the fridge where Lucasā€™ game schedule is pinned.Ā
ā€œI know. Dustin tells me you make him listen sometimes.ā€
ā€œI do. If I can learn the difference between a d20 and a d12, he can learn what a free throw is. But Iā€™m not going anywhere, and neither is Eddie. The pack might be spread out now but weā€™re still a pack.ā€
ā€œWeā€™re your pups?ā€ Lucas teases, to which Steve just nods.Ā
ā€œYeah my first ones,ā€ Steve agrees, earning a raised brow from Lucas. The music on the radio is interrupted by a reminder that they were fifteen minutes to midnight and Steve glances at the clock to confirm.
ā€œRight, break out the champagne and cider and take that to the living room. Tell Eddie to put on the ball drop. Iā€™m just going to pipe this really quick.ā€ Steve finishes decorating the mousse in a few minutes, just in time to watch Eddie argue with Dustin over the drinks.Ā
ā€œI know how to count Eddie. Itā€™s five glasses of champagne, one of cider,ā€ he bickers, trying to slap Eddieā€™s hand away from tossing back the extra champagne glass.
ā€œHenderson I know youā€™re used to being one the smartest people in the room, but I think for once I know more than you,ā€ Eddie chides and pours out a glass of cider for Steve, passing it to his mate.Ā
ā€œWe arenā€™t driving anywhere tonight, why arenā€™t you drinking?ā€ Dustin questions, eyeing Steve suspiciously. Lucas looks between Dustin, the cup, Steve, and then Eddie who is looking smug. Steve watches as the gears turn in his head and when he looks at Max she just nods.Ā
ā€œBut you were drinking at the wedding!ā€ Lucas worries.Ā
ā€œThey just found out,ā€ Max supplies, trying to assuage his concern.
ā€œFound out what?!ā€ Dustin whines, not enjoying being left out of the loop. His exclamation makes Suzie gasp, bringing everyone but Dustin into the know.Ā
ā€œOh my goodness that is so exciting! Congratulations!ā€
ā€œCongratulations to what? Can someone tell me what is going on!ā€Ā
As much as Steve likes watching Dustin flounder on his curiosity voyage, he figures someone should take pity on him lest they miss the start of 1990.
ā€œItā€™s your turn to be the babysitter Henderson.ā€ Steve watches as everything clicks into place for Dustin. Heā€™s pretty sure that if he wasnā€™t sitting on the sofa, Steve would have been on the floor from the force of Dustin tackling him.Ā
ā€œWhoa, whoa, easy Dustin, thatā€™s my kid in there!ā€ Eddie scolds, causing the younger man to panic at his action, which only makes Steve laugh.Ā
ā€œYouā€™re fine, Eddie is just in full protective mode. But yeah we just found out a few days ago.ā€
ā€œI found out first,ā€ Max crows, clearly trying to needle Dustin who is reeling from the news.
ā€œWhat?! Why did she find out first?ā€ Steve isnā€™t sure why his pregnancy would be the exception to Dustin and Maxā€™s constant one-upmanship but heā€™s putting a stop to it before it starts.
ā€œAlright enough everyone, weā€™ve got a minute to midnight and I want a moment of calm before our phone starts ringing,ā€ Steve calls out, settling the room down, even when Dustin shoves Max playfully. ā€œGet your drinks and watch the damn ball.ā€
ā€œYes Mom,ā€ everyone mutters and when he hears Suzieā€™s voice in the chorus he quirks a brow at her.
ā€œWhat? Itā€™s not a bad title,ā€ she shrugs, walking over to soothe Dustinā€™s ego.
Eddie takes the vacant spot next to Steve and winds an arm around his shoulder. ā€œIf you thought this was bad, wait until Robin finds out sheā€™s not the first to know.ā€Ā
ā€œJust shut up and kiss me, Eddie.ā€ ā€œWith pleasure. Happy New Year, baby.ā€
