It was like this in the 80s when I was in UK leftist circles. It's never gone away. It's now at levels that need us to acknowledge it, deal with it, work out how to stop it coming back over and over. Jews are once again at risk, being demonised and where the fuck do we think they are supposed to go?
While I'm here, how can we demand safe spaces for queer and trans folk, for ourselves, if we don't stand against the making of unsafe spaces for other humans?
I don't want to get into geopolitics - this is basic humanity. I'm also not in favour of Islamophobia or white supremacy. Of course I'm not. All forms of race/ethnicity based hatred are unwelcome.
Why are Jews repeatedly denied the safety and respect that we want for ourselves and for all our other others? Dig into your unconscious bias if you're feel-thinking, "yes, but...". There is no sodding "but".
Pretty great article from the daily beast. It’s been a while since I’ve read a moderate take that wasn’t “all pro Palestinians are antisemitic” or “no pro pal has ever been antisemitic and no evidence of antisemitism has been connected to pro Palestinians politics.”
I honestly don’t trust any pro pals on here. Every time they seem one way they turn around and support Hamas or irans government or some loony shit. Irl kids tho, I have to believe they don’t know how antisemitism acts or looks. Anyway…

There's an important religious holiday going on and the people who observe it are having to do it *in hiding*. Sound familiar, my fellow not-Jewish people, with our very long histories of (conscious and unconscious), culturally embedded antisemitism?
You can be for peace, ask for a ceasefire and long for some mercy - and refuse antisemitism. A bit of history, a jot of cultural analysis and a tad of introspection can help.
We've been here far too many times already. We really have.
Due to a protest at my college, Hillel had to move tonight’s Seder to a secret location and have barred last-minute registrations.
I signed up in time to go, but I’m disappointed that some people who want to go may not be able to. I really wish this was an event that could be more open to students who may have been on the fence about going.
The fact that Hillel has to hide the location of a Passover Seder is horrifying to me.

it feels bad to have someone say ‘we will not accommodate your unique way in our space’. that is what the texas library association did to chuck
the thing is, WE have the power to create our own spaces. sometimes that space is SO SMALL, just one cubic foot inside of a pink mask, and sometimes that space is a whole ballroom full of buckaroos cheering and laughing and proving that LOVE IS REAL
thank you to true buckaroos MARK OSHIRO and TJ KLUNE for creating that space with me last night. thank you to NOWHERE BOOKSHOP and BONHAM EXCHANGE and JENNY LAWSON for hosting, and thank you to NIGHTFIRE for going along with this wild idea when chuck said ‘hey if the dang TXLA does not want unique buckaroos inside their convention, then lets have our own across town’
every day there are strong forces pushing back against love, but when we trot together we can make spaces where love thrives

Loved my specs from the first moment I put them on and could actually see sharp. Love taking them off and basking in blurry softness.
a story with that cyberpunk theme of “are you really human if you modify your body to gain power“, except the body modification is just strength training.

Using Duo to have a go at Scots Gaelic. Ludicrous. IRN BRU and sugar? As if.

I've added Scots Gaelic to my Duolingo - something I've had intentions towards for years, but not the time. Lesson 1: variations on tea, milk, coffee, cake, sugar. Over and over. Then, suddenly, IRN BRU appeared in the mix. Bloody brilliant. Can't wait to see what else is gonna come up. Bannocks and single malt, hopefully.

Absolutely this. A well-studied phenomenon. One example is the overlap around 1930s Euro fascism and fascinations for healthy lives/ bodies, set in an imaginary bucolic. Another is contemporary Hindu fundamentalist nationalism that demonises Indian Muslims, Christians and castes/ communities that are not high-caste Hindus - yoga and vegetarianism have become tools of violence and hate. (You can look this up or ask me if you want links).
