I literally thought this after seeing someone say this about Tia & Benjamin from Twilight yesterday. (Distant cousins, big whoop. 🙄) It's like when someone likes a villain, and they go: "THEY'RE A VILLAIN!! THEY'VE KILLED PEOPLE!!!" Yeah, no shit, Sherl0ck! 🙄

I agree with @chicavetta that cousins are not incest & that even though dating a sibling shouldn't be in courage banning siblings from marrying still seems cruel & sibling couples should be in courage to get counseling to make sure their relationship is healthy instead of banning siblings from marrying.

Short stories are way easier to write because I am a newbie writer but I want to make a difference in the world by writing about siblings dating and cousins dating but can a short story really make a difference?

Making a difference doesn't just happen all at once. It takes a lot of little things to make a big difference. That's why people should focus on celebrating the little things they do and just enjoying it and appreciating those who take the time to understand it.

Though the short story form is not my personal chosen form (I want to write long stories or a series), I actually took a course on short stories in university years ago as part of my other studies, and I learned a lot and developed a deeper appreciation for that form. It really is its own thing and it's not just the length that characterizes what a good short story really is.

There are movies out there inspired from just short stories. If it explores a compelling idea, it will be noticed and remembered. There's this short story collection called Fat Man in History that I still remember because of one story in it that really moved me.

You're right that there is an advantage to writing in that form because it means you can finish a piece earlier rather than taking years to do worldbuilding. You never know unless you try, so you should definitely give it a go and have faith in yourself and write as many as you want. And try to focus on enjoying it and then see how it goes.

Sibling couples and cousin cousin couples are both treated with hate when why hate when we should want everyone to be open-minded but how can we help make more people more open-minded? Like what can we do, just let the world be shrouded in hate instead of the world shinning bright with open-mindedness?

I don't have an easy answer. I just think the first thing a person can do is change themselves within... just question the things they've been taught and decide how they will act if they come across consensual relationships of this type in real life. The best thing to do right now seems to be to keep the privacy of those couples and never let anyone else know about them so that they can live without the hate being directed at them.

As for what you can do to change negative attitudes, even something like making an anonymous blog can make a difference in educating people and dispelling some myths. Or at least it lets people know that there are other perspectives out there and that they don't have to go along with what is taught to them by a toxic society.

So write, speak up when you can, change one person at a time if the opportunity presents itself in conversations and if you feel safe doing so, and otherwise just keep your own mind open because that's still something.

What are a few of your favourite things about first cousin ships?

Hmm, interesting question. I guess what I like about first cousin ships is how pretty closely related they are, but not enough to call it incest (in my opinion at least). This I, your parent's sibling's son, this I will be your husband. They may be even raised in same traditions, maybe they are similar in some things, but they are still distant enough for love to blossom naturally. I really enjoy the idea of cousin marriage in fiction. Be it socially approved one or forbidden one. Incest is great, but it can also be horrifying sometimes because of how wrong this is; you don't get that with cousins. You can just enjoy a story without constantly thinking "That would be horrible in real life". And sometimes it's what you need.

When I was growing up I had a crush on one of my cousins, one I did not see very often and was quite a bit older than me. There was never any flirtation, just a little crush. That was a long time ago!

If I was in a situation where I was interested in my (hypothetical) cousin and he was interested in me, I would totally date him. But we couldn't get married where I live.

My cousin and I are dating. We are from Jamaica. First cousins like us can marry in Jamaica but we think we may move to another country that is more open to the idea of cousin marriage being beautiful. We think either Australia, Canada, or France. We know Australia and France are even more open to the idea of cousin marriage being beautiful but than again we don't speak French and Australia has big spiders and crocodiles. So we need more time to choose.

Fortunately, there are lots of options of countries where cousins are allowed to marry but there's a lot of stigma towards cousin couples all around the world. I'm not sure about France, but in the English speaking world you're likely to find some discomfort from some people. Not everyone, of course. It has been perpetuated a lot my popular culture, unfortunately.
