This is a late post, I got some readings done in a coffee shop on campus~ we covered nō plays in my comparative literature class.

I love that you're going into haem ❤️ I remember when you were first getting into it!
Aww thank you! Yeah I was pretty set on gastro and then my first job as a doctor completely switched me over to haem, it's such a great specialty! I will hopefully (fingers crossed) be starting my training this august <3

Hi there! Congrats 🎉 ! Quick question. Does the mrcp exam part 1 not include images? If not , how do they go about with derm questions and things like EKG?
Sorry I think this might be a really late reply, but as far as I can remember those sorts of questions don't come up in part 1, they'd be in part 2 which is more clinical.

Still thinking about that time I went to the city council to give my notice of marriage, and the registrar looked through my details and said 'oh! I recognise your name from death certificates!' 💀

Omg thank you so much! What a lovely human being you are! I found the reply to my question on MRCP very helpful. Bless you! Also i forgot a thing in my previous ask. I have a phobia regarding bio stats and i think if i start doing it/understanding it from scratch i ll waste massive amount of time. Do you have any tips. Honestly i am thinking to skip it altogether and use that time to rather focus on all the other topics.
I’d definitely let you know when i pass the exam and i would be so so grateful for your help. 💜
No worries at all, I'm happy to help <3
I think if you have time, definitely try to get your head around the stats. If you've not done much stats before, it may seem overwhelming but actually in part 1 there's only a few things they will actually ask you about, and it's never in much depth. I just had a look at my stats notes that I made from the question bank explanations and there's really not that much. Honestly, I think if you sit down and learn the material then the stats questions are some of the easiest marks to get in the exam - if you know how to calculate absolute risk reduction and there's a question asking for that, you know you've got that right. At least learn the calculation ones (odds ratio, absolute risk reduction, number needed to treat etc).
People get wound up about stats but it's actually not that hard if you just sit down and learn it - you're a doctor, you'll be capable of getting the concepts. I think research is generally taught poorly in med school and then people think they're bad at it. But knowing some basic research methods and stats is so helpful and important to being a doctor! We practice evidence-based medicine and it's important to be able to interpret that and explain to patients ourselves. So I think it's worth doing, as at least it's more helpful to your career than knowing the genetics of wiskott-aldrich syndrome and some of the other random niche knowledge in part 1!

Hi , first off congratulations on your mrcp! Its massive ! 😍 Wishing you more happiness and success.
So i am to embark on this same journey. I did my mbbs and residency in Pakistan and then cuz of some life circumstances had to take a break. Because of which i lost my connections as well so basically dont have a friend who i could ask this stuff.
I would be very grateful if you please guide me about these things
1. Is it true that i only need attested copy of my primary medical qualification for the application of mrcp1 ? The website doesn’t mention any other documents but dont they need proof of internship?
2. I am doing passmedicine questions and plan on doing pastest as well. I turn to other sources when i wana read more on the topic. Do you think there are any facebook groups etc that can be beneficial? Or should i just keep going.
3.Any other tips you want to give would be much appreciated
Thank you in advance. Love and prayers for you.
Hi, thank you and good luck to you!
I'm not sure. I think I remember sending a copy of my MBBS cert for part 1? But it may be different requirements for you if you're not working in the UK. I'd suggest emailing them to make sure.
I basically just used passmedicine and pastest for part 1 (and part 2), I didn't use any facebook groups. A mix of the two is definitely good because they have slightly different styles of questions. Keep doing questions and make notes on the stuff you get wrong/don't know - that's what I did anyway. Definitely make sure you do the official mock on the MRCP website at some point as that's the closest you'll get to the real thing https://www.mrcpuk.org/mrcpuk-examinations/part-1/part-1-sample-questions
Another tip I have is look at the breakdown for the number of questions for each topic, on this page https://www.mrcpuk.org/mrcpuk-examinations/part-1/format. This is how I decided which topics to spend more time on - no point stressing too much about learning all of ophthal when there's only going to be 4 questions on it! Prioritise the big topics. I would also suggest that at least at first, filter the questions on the question banks by one specialty at a time. That way, you will learn key concepts quicker because of the repetition. If you start by just doing all the topics in one go it'll be hard to focus on learning the concepts because it'll be overwhelming. So e.g. I'd do one day haematology, next day gastroenterology. Then later on, once you're more slick, do all the topics together.
Good luck!
