Cyanspica writing a one shot?? Unheard of. Featuring betrayal, angst, superpowers, and ambiguous morality!
Summary:
"What are you thinking about?”
“Nothing,” Thomas had replied, staring up at the ceiling with a distant look in his eyes.
“Bullshit.”
“Hm.” It had been another minute before he answered, only when Alex had sat up to get dressed and leave. “About how simple this is now, and about how complicated it’ll be one day.”
Really, that should have been Alex’s sign.
Excerpt:
Alex’s back collides against the wall and cracks loud enough to let him know something’s been broken. He’s stumbling back onto his feet before he feels it. It’s fine. He’s moving still. It isn’t his spine.
His mouth tastes like blood, broken teeth, and electricity. His veins sing and burn and singe his arteries. He grounds himself against the metal floor, sends the electricity flowing right back out.
His opponent cocks his head. Behind his mask, Alex is sure he’s grinning.
He’s not stupid, despite his actions often seeming to prove otherwise. He knows he’s not winning this fight. He doesn’t even know who his opponent is.
Like the rest of the intruders, the man is dressed is black, head-to-toe. Some kind of kevlar. Looks like riot gear. Impersonal. Faceless, features covered by a heavy black mask and a tinted visor.
Fine—Alex has faced down enough faceless assholes in his career.
