Deitrick Haddon earned the name, "the new face of Gospel," after his album Church on the Moon debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Gospel chart. The Detroit native is known for his progressive, urban style of gospel music, but he is also the founding pastor of Hill City Church in California. He is also a former cast member on Oxygen's reality television show Preachers of L.A. Christmas 2020, Haddon teamed up with super-producer Zaytoven to create what they consider to be their best body of work to date, on the holiday EP “Greatest Gift.” Additionally, Haddon penned three songs on Usher’s album, “A.” As an actor, Haddon starred in the original TV One film, SINS OF THE FATHER and the ALLBLK film, THE FALLEN.

Gospel Legend Bebe Winans Delivers A Celebration Of God’s Bounty In First New Release “Father In Heaven (Right Now)

Regimen Records is proud to announce the highly anticipated single release, video and “One Night Only” performances from Award Winning Contemporary Gospel legend Bebe Winans. On April 12, the Detroit native will deliver his newest offering appropriately titled “Father In Heaven (Right Now)." Written and produced by Winans, "Father In Heaven (Right Now)" recounts the many ways in which he has witnessed and felt God’s hand on his life. The ballad serves as a reminder of celebration and testimony.

Along with the song, the Gospel great is set to deliver a new music video which perfectly conveys the essence of the song. Filmed over the course of four sold out performances across South Africa in January 2024, the official clip for “Father In Heaven (Right Now)” captures Bebe Winans on stage bringing his unique blend of Gospel, Soul and R&B to thousands of fans.

BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) celebrated the best in Gospel music on March 28, 2024 at the 2024 BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards held at Flourish in Atlanta, GA. Gospel legend and world-renowned evangelist Dorinda Clark-Cole, of the acclaimed Clarke sisters, was honored as a Trailblazer of Gospel Music in recognition of her illustrious career spanning over 50 years. Jonathan McReynolds received the BMI Champion Award, the first time this accolade was presented at this ceremony, for his exceptional artistry and impact on Gospel music.

BMI’s Gospel Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Publisher of the Year and the Top 25 Gospel Songs of the previous year were also announced at the private ceremony hosted by BMI’s President & CEO, Mike O’Neill and Vice President, Creative, Atlanta, Catherine Brewton.

The inspirational luncheon began with a celebration of music and joyful worship, with Tim Bowman, Jr., performing his BMI award-winning song “Jesus,” with Kim Burrell and Faith City Music, co-written with Le’Andria Johnson and VaShawn Mitchell. Zacardi Cortez brought the house down with his BMI award-winning song “You’ve Been Good to Me,” before moving to the event’s main honorees and award-winners.

As a Trailblazer of Gospel Music, Dorinda Clarke-Cole was saluted for her legendary career and contributions to the genre with several powerful tribute performances honoring her legacy. Crystal Aikin’s heartfelt voice kicked things off with “I’m Coming Out,” and Tasha Page-Lockhart brought the audience to their feet with a moving performance of “I’m Still Here.” Yolanda Adams followed with a magnetic rendition of “Take It Back,” with Lisa Knowles-Smith jumping in to help close out the performance. Clark-Cole’s niece Kierra Sheard finished the amazing tribute with an uplifting version of “My Redeemer Liveth.”

Upon receiving the afternoon’s highest honor, Clarke-Cole admitted to being “deeply humbled” and “extremely grateful.” She continued with advice for songwriters saying, “when you are at your lowest, that’s when God can get your greatest… keep writing, keep getting inspired by God because somebody is being blessed.”

After receiving the BMI Champion Award celebrating his outstanding success in Gospel music and beyond, Jonathan McReynolds thanked BMI’s Catherine Brewton and Wardell Malloy for all the love and support they have given him throughout his career. His tribute started with DOE giving a beautiful performance of “Grace” and she also joined Tyree Miller for a duet of “Cycles.” Darrel Walls followed with his resounding rendition of “Lovin’ Me,” and Jason Nelson shared his passionate version of “God Is Good,” which brought the audience to their feet.

Throughout the event, BMI saluted the Top 25 most-performed Gospel songs of the previous year, leading up to the highly anticipated BMI Gospel Song of the Year award, which went to “Kingdom” written by Kirk Franklin, Jonathan Jay, Chandler Moore and Jacob Poole. The song by Maverick City Music X Kirk Franklin debuted at #17 on the Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart, #6 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart. It also received a 2023 GRAMMY Award for Best Gospel Performance/Song. BMI’s Gospel Songwriter of the Year was a three-way tie between Kirk Franklin, Travis Greene and Tamela Mann for each writing two of the most performed Gospel songs of the previous year. Franklin was honored for “Bless Me” and the BMI Gospel Song of the Year “Kingdom,” Greene for “Finished” and “Tent Revival,” and Mann was also honored for “Finished” and “He Did It For Me.”

BMI’s Gospel Publisher of the Year went to Essential Music Publishing, for the second year in a row.

The chart-topping lyricist and singer reflects on themes of personal growth and resilience, set to contemporary melodies and bass beats on the new track. The City Of Atlanta To Host Prestigious Black Girls Rock!® Awards In Landmark Celebration

In a momentous announcement, Atlanta, Georgia, has been declared the host city for the 2024 BLACK GIRLS ROCK!® Awards, marking a significant milestone as the city becomes the new epicenter for the world-renowned celebration. Over the years, BLACK GIRLS ROCK!® has honored the outstanding contributions of trailblazers, entertainers, icons, community activists, pioneers, business moguls, thought leaders, and rising stars.

The eagerly awaited BLACK GIRLS ROCK!® Awards are scheduled to be recorded live on June 27, 2024, at the iconic Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA. This event is set to be the highlight of a broader, city-wide BLACK GIRLS ROCK!® Experience, which will feature an array of events and celebrations throughout Atlanta, including The BGR! Expo, and the annual BGR! Film Festival, The BLACK CLOUD Tech Summit and the BGR!FEST concert series, further cementing the city's status as a cultural hub and celebrating the achievements and spirit of Black women globally.

Cohort of Youth Fashion Designers from Detroit to Showcase Afrofuturism Inspired Looks at New York Fashion Week February 2024

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan (BGCSM) Fashion Industry Club has partnered once again with the Maison Black and will host a runway show at New York Fashion Week this season. Maison Black, founded by Tori Nichel, is a Black-owned, New York-based retailer who showcases Black designers and has expanded into the Maison Black Foundation (MBF) in order to provide a more robust platform to support Black youth in the arts.

“As we near the culmination of our mentorship program’s second season in partnership with BGCSM, we’re proud to have helped establish a program that develops aspiring youth designer’s skills and provide true real time experience on what it takes to be a successful fashion designer in this industry,” notes Tori Nichel. “This year we took the mentorship a step further to provide clarity and a path forward for the youth to pursue their passions as a career. I am so grateful to partner with our incredible designer mentors and esteemed universities that provide solid foundations and pathways for these young designers to accomplish their goals. We are looking forward to presenting the youth and mentors breathtaking collections this season, for an audience of supporters, industry professionals, social media influencers and friends of Maison Black in support of BGCSM and MBF.”

Maison Black is a destination for the discovery of Black designers throughout the country. Founder and Detroit native Tori Nichel has used her expertise, network and resources to build a bridge for Black designers through Maison Black. This season’s mentors include Aaron Potts, Patrick Cupid, Dreu Breckemberg, Carlton Jones, Shelley Victory and Lola Faturoti, who have worked closely with the Fashion Industry Club youth designers Nasya D., Zyana H., Lydia M., Logan H., and Ta’Leah H. for the past 7 months.

“There is power in aligned passion and long-term collaboration—and that is what we have with Maison Black, and how we’re able to provide such a life-changing experience for these young women,” said Shawn H. Wilson, president, and CEO of BGCSM. “We look at this as an honor to support and create space for our young designers through the Fashion Industry Club and will continue to provide these resources to more youth to come."

The Fashion Industry Club is a part of the Industry Club model at BGCSM which was launched in 2020 and is a comprehensive and forward-thinking initiative that addresses the needs of young people in preparing them for successful futures in a variety of industries.

MBF is a 501c.3 non-profit organization and a launchpad that champions and equips the future generation of Black creatives with the required skill sets in design innovation, advanced technology and business to become career ready with a competitive edge in the industry. MBF and its partners provide pathways and educational platforms for the next generation to discover their talents and pursue their passions.

Runner-Up Emily Cohen, J.D. Candidate Duke University School of Law Durham, NC Paper Title “A ‘Perfect Storm’ For Reworking The Copyright Test”  

Co-sponsored by the American Bar Association, the ELI Writing Contest challenges law students to identify and research a current legal issue in the music industry and outline a proposed solution in an essay. The winning paper is published in the ABA’s journal, Entertainment & Sports Lawyer. A $10,000 scholarship is awarded to the winner, a $2,500 scholarship is awarded to two runners-up, and a mentor session with a leading entertainment attorney is given to all three. The winner will also receive tickets to attend the 66th GRAMMY Awards®, MusiCares® Person of the Year, and the ELI Event.

  The 2024 Entertainment Law Initiative Service Award will also be presented to Atlantic Records Executive Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs and General Counsel, Michael Kushner at the event. This accolade is awarded to an attorney who has demonstrated commitment to advancing and supporting the music community through service. Capitol Music Group Chair & Chief Executive Officer Michelle Jubelirer will deliver the keynote address at the luncheon.

The Recording Academy established the Entertainment Law Initiative in partnership with the nation’s most prominent entertainment attorneys to promote discussion and debate around compelling legal matters and trends in the ever-evolving music industry. The ELI GRAMMY Week Event is the premier annual gathering of entertainment attorneys to celebrate the achievements of their own practitioners, hear from legal thought leaders, and support students who are pursuing careers in music law.

CBS announced performances and player honorees for THE SUPER BOWL SOULFUL CELEBRATION 25th ANNIVERSARY (previously known as the “Super Bowl Gospel Celebration”), airing Saturday, Feb. 10 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand on Pluto TV and CBS.com the day after the special airs)*. Cedric the Entertainer and Tichina Arnold of CBS’ THE NEIGHBORHOOD will host. 

It was announced on CBS MORNINGS that their co-host, Nate Burleson, will be honored on the special with the “Lifetime of Inspiration” Award. The honor will celebrate Burleson’s substantial impact on the NFL and people of faith, as well as recognize his contributions to media, sports, philanthropy, and business. This accolade has been bestowed six times in the event’s 25-year history, recognizing truly exceptional individuals in football who embody excellence, resilience, gratitude, and inspiration, both on and off the field. Previous recipients include Tony Dungy (2009), Ray Lewis (2013), Tim Brown (2015), Troy Vincent (2017), and Deion Sanders (2022).

Additionally, the special will feature an electrifying performance lineup led by Earth, Wind & Fire, Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary and Robin Thicke. Also, the telecast will feature a performance by The Players Choir. This all-player ensemble has become a staple of Super Bowl weekend festivities, captivating audiences with its powerful harmonies and unique blend of NFL talent for 16 seasons. Additional performers will be announced at a later date.

The show will also pay tribute to outstanding NFL players for their remarkable contributions on and off the field. The following players will be honored for their exceptional achievements:

Damar Hamlin, Buffalo Bills (S), will be presented with the New Beginnings Award, recognizing his dedication, resilience, and inspiring journey in overcoming obstacles to achieve success.

Markquese Bell, Dallas Cowboys (LB), will be honored as the HBCU Player of the Year, celebrating his remarkable achievements and impact while representing Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
