TONIGHG aka. This Wednesday (December 22nd) I would complete my 40th run around the Sun for clan Ravindran. And no words in the English dictionary (including supercalifragilisticexpialidocious) cuts up to the true sentiment for this one. So I’d rather present to you “40 Years of Earworms and Oddities aka. Another Winter Solstice Listening Party with Reji” at @denbandra . In short, I’ll be playing an assorted bouquet of beats, basslines, hooks, licks, chord movements, riffs, drops, tracks, songs, B sides, remixes, mashups etc. from the lower rungs of my personal 20+ year old music collection. LINK IN BIO ⬆️ I’ve made for you a Youtube playlist of 1000+ earworms that have been living permanently rent free in my head. I started compiling this playlist back in 2015/16 - inspired by Dan Snaith (of @cariboumusic who had also released his 1000 track playlist on Youtube around those years. I was impressed & inspired by that lil’ feat - wanting to build one of mine. My 2 guidelines/restrictions to achieve this goal were very simple. i) I would allow these tunes (picked through my life by my ears ) emerge naturally, from the deep recesses of my subconscious mind. ii) I would not be indulging in music hunting deep dives on Youtube. Musically, the past few years have been super enlightening for me with this little side quest/experience of mine. Few days of absolute zilch. Some days, these popped up in conversations with old friends. Another bunch crept out (super stereo typically) during showers & dumps. However, 88% of the tunes came to me - first thing on my mind - as I woke up through a majority of my mornings in the recent years. Anyway, with that bit of fun fact I urge you to enjoy this playlist in your mornings (& other moments) ahead. BUYER BEWARE: These are not "the best" earworms however, these are MY earworms… best enjoyed non stop for days - on shuffle mode. P.S.:- The completion/arrival of this playlist also pleasantly coincides with my 40th birthday on December 22nd 2021. However, I’m more than confident that there are (at least) a thousand more to go. This was the first ever personal music system/DJ console in my life. The year was 1990 & my uncle gifted our family with the @panasonic_global RX-CS700 2-in-1 player from Dubai. I was 9 years old then. You may be surprised to know that I wasn't really into music in my formative years. By the time the music bug finally chomped my butt (1993), this guy & I became inseparable. Our relationship caused a lot of stress to my parents. It was very concerning. By any means, this model was not "compact". Yet I would hook up a cheap pair of earphones & lug it around as if it was a #walkman. Even go to sleep with it. My favourite song would play on TV, causing my sister & I to quickly press record & stick the whole unit close to the TV (in complete silence) for us to record the song through the inbuilt microphone. The Shortwave (SW) band would also pick up walkie-talkie radio chatter of the Mumbai Police & Fire Brigade. This guy (& his detachable speakers) would also be the defacto sound system for new year gatherings in the neighbourhood. And most importantly, it's 5 band equalizer taught me everything about sound & frequencies along with ridiculous DJ style EQ kills & boosts, waaaay before I knew that people actually do it for a living 🤣🤣 In short, this black box schooled me for life. And in hindsight this was THE DREAM before all my dreams. All I can deduce from this experience so far is that Music in my life was always meant to be. Fractal by form & function...
