DC vs Vampires had the perfect set up with Hal Jordan and it being a story that was unapologetically ironic with dark humor. But instead we got a Batfam led titles that literally imploded on itself.

Wtf was that ending? I don’t know whcih character was more dumb. Babs for whatever the hell that plan was that got lots of people killed just so she can be the new vampire leader? Or Dick for falling for that bullshit, and then dying in the dumbest way possible.

Don’t even get me started on how characters like Starfire were used. DC is so far up Batman’s ass that they let these so called professional writers take ideas from fanfic and implement them in the most horrendous way possible at the expense of their established characters.

In the end, DC vs Vampires had zero buildup, zero direction and ended with piggybacking off of a ship. That’s it. There wasn’t even barely Green Arrow content. The whole thing gets a 1/10 from me and that 1 point comes from Hal Jordan carrying this whole event.

I love your plan about building Dick back up from scratch if you had the chance, it reminds me a lot of my own ideas. For the romance bit, eventually we HAVE to give him someone definitive and long term (he deserves a Lois lame or Dinah Lance). How would you approach this? Would you create a new character to build up alongside him? Would you retool/rebuild a previous romance? Or, would you choose another established DC character to build him up with?

I like option one as it would build Dick up considerably separate from any franchise, but I wouldn’t mind Dick hooking up with a previously established DC character because I think it works with Dick being one of the most trusted and easy going guys in the universe.

Not if we stop valuing romantic relationships over platonic relationships we don't 😌. Not if Dick eventually becomes a single dad and puts all his time into his kid/work we don't 😌.

Alas, DC will never go for those routes... even though they technically already did the second one with Dick and Damian, and they should've just let Damian continue to live with Dick. They also seem pretty fond of making Dick a widower/single dad in other universes sooo 👀.

Personally, before we get too far away from the amnesia storyline, I'd probably bring Bea back and rekindle the Dick/Bea romance. If I had to, of course. Because we all know I'd rather Dick be single. But if he had to be with a preexisting SO, I'd go with Bea. Now if we can't get Bea within a time frame that makes sense and feels natural, I think I would bring a new character into play and build a relationship with Dick from scratch.

Only problem would be the stans of Dick's two most popular ships who would constantly hate-dump on the new SO. I almost feel like a new ship would need to be introduced in some animated show first for it to gain stronger support. For example, Dick/Zatanna was able to make waves thanks to YJ (yes, yes, I know about their canon age difference shhh that's not what we're discussing rn). Babs wasn't around in the show when that relationship popped up, and Kory isn't in YJ at all, so neither of them were there to act as direct "competition." So maybe Dick would need a new SO in an animated show or movie where neither of Dick's popular ships make an appearance. We could build from there.

How would you get Dick out of whatever hole he is in right now? Like it wouldn’t even know how to fix it because everything just feels so bland. I don’t like his current romance and I just feel like right now what even is the point of Nightwing… why should I even like him?

Oh hohoho I'd have to cut off some dead weight.

Dick and the batfam's interactions would decrease significantly. They (specific members) can show up in Bludhaven every now and then but Dick needs to stay out of Gotham. He needs his independence. If there's an issue in Gotham, the Gotham-based batfam members can handle it. The Nightwing run shouldn't derail for any big Gotham events.

Romance and hookups need to take a backseat. Casual dates are fine, but a long-term romance isn't in the cards while we're building Dick back up. Yup, sorry, I'm divorcing dickbabs. Don't care. It'll be good for both of them.

Side characters have got to stop disrespecting Dick. Yeah, hi, I'm looking at all those side characters who were bitching about wanting Batman to help them instead of Nightwing. Also, looking at the Bat Pack from TTA who constantly shat on Dick and kept saying how Batman was better.

Dick has gotta stop being treated like he's Robin in terms of skill. He's at Batman's level/has even surpassed Batman. He was Batman! Don't know why writers have reverted to making him seem less experienced but they better stop.

New writers have got to stop ditching Dick's existing supporting cast. You brought Clancy back? Cool. Keep using her. You forgot about Detective Svoboda? Bring her back. You forgot that the Nightwings are retired from vigilante life but are still active police officers and firefighters? Use them to give Nightwing more allies in law enforcement/fire protection. (And bring Guppy back!!)

Writers have got to stop comparing Dick to the other Robins and acting like he can't be good at so-and-so because X Robin is supposed to be the best at that. Forget about the other Robins. Dick's a good fighter. He's a good detective. He's good at XYZ. Focus on that. Focus on him.

Writers need to remember that Dick can be intense at times. He's not Mr. Happy-Go-Lucky. His shoulders are burdened by responsibility and past failure, and it should be visible to anyone who looks at him (see Titans!Dick for accurate visual representation). And I'm not saying he has to be broody or a dark cloud all the time, I'm just saying that he's not as nonchalant as currently depicted.

It's too late for this now but I'd erase Dick's status as a billionaire to keep him out of the public eye and to keep him from feeling like a copy and paste of Bruce.

He needs more villains that are established in Bludhaven. Blockbuster? Okay, fine. Raptor? I guess. The Judge? They should do something else with him but they probably won't. But the Court of Owls, Joker, Two-Face, KGBeast, Deathstroke, etc. are only pop-ins. The other villains that Dixon established are, let's be honest, kind of lame. Wyrm was a bust. Heartless still hasn't been taken as a serious threat yet. I wish they would've let Professor Pyg stay as a Nightwing villain but alas.
