About that last Pons-Brooks photo (amazing, btw), is the "24 mins" the exposure time? And if so, do closer targets like comets show any "movement" in that long of an iterval?
yes, the image is composed of 96×15 second photos stacked together, for a total exposure time of 24 minutes.
Many comets do visibly move across the sky over the course of decaminutes. It's visible in my image of Pons-Brooks if you darken it and zoom in on the coma:
Notice how the green coma is slightly vertically elongated compared to the surrounding stars because of its motion.

24 mins on comet 12p pons-brooks on the 26th
Looking at it through binoculars, it appears to have undergone an outburst that night, maybe brightening by about half a magnitude compared to the previous two nights. But online observation databases haven't updated it yet so I can't confirm it for sure.

Technophobes need to apologise for "just put it in plain English you stupid machine!" because, well for one the decline in accurate error messages in favour of simplicity has contributed to the rise of tech illiteracy, but also because now whenever an "app" has a net connection error it will pop up a box saying something like "oo ooopsie! Your super duper feed went poo poo. We'll try again soon!" which having said to me by a corporation is about 8 million times worse than having to hear the word "network".

Joke tags aside, I do in fact have a process when choosing how to crop gifs. Cause you see, the standard tumblr feed has a width of 540px. That means that images will be displayed at that width unless zoomed in, and that gifs will be outright limited to that.
So, take that scene for example. Ideally, I'd want to include the entire frame here in the gif, since Falin's descent has such an angelic tone to it, despite squishing a whole person to death on her way down. But, if I do that:
It means that Falin's face is now just around 90px wide. Her beautiful eyes reduced to an 8x11px blob. That is, of course, unacceptable.
I could also try going all out and keeping just her head in focus, but then all the aspects of her motion get cropped out as well. That won't do.
Because I wanted the focus of the gifset to be her face as well as her descent, the width limitations directly impact the horizontal cropping decisions. The vertical aspect is more related to the layout, so I have more freedom there.
