Bass guitar fix! A student of mine had an unfortunate booboo when his bass slipped out of his gigbag in a parking garage. The impact damaged the body to the point where the thin part that held the pots cracked and that also ripped a few wires loose. Since this bass isn’t very expensive, his budget is limited and my refinishing skills still have a lot to gain we decided to simply glue most cracks down, cut the thin wood out and make a pickguard for it to hold the pots. The trickiest part were the electronics. A 4-conductor computer style flat cable completely tore itself from a circuitboard and after finally putting everything together I get notes fuzzing out, noise, low output and weird thumps while turning some pots. It turns out another wire to a different circuitboard also snapped internally but only truly separated when tugged on it. I put it back on and voilà!! These ‘complicated’ wiring jobs are still victories to me.
